red beef curry, wagyu noodle soup

The red curry was very good, the ka pow burger was so good and juicy. The wagyu beef noodle soup was also very good, I loved the texture of the thin noodles. I'd love to come back to try the dinner menu. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The interior is elegant and feels intimate.

The city's Thai restaurant scene has been great in recent years. LenLen one of the most recent additions, and it has some familiar classics but also distinguishes itself with some singular dishes, drinks, and decor. Food: Papaya and seasonal fruit som tum (tomato, green beans, roasted peanuts, chili, garlic): This was one crunchy, fiery, vinegary starter! Enjoyed it but I would try something else in its place next time. Crab Durian Curry (lump crab, coconut milk, spaghetti squash): I was a little bit nervous about the durian (like many, I've been victimized by it in Southeast Asia), but this is an absolute must-order dish. It was so delicious! The curry is on the sweet side, but it has a gentle fruitiness and a spicy kick to it as well. Crab fried rice: Great version of the classic dish, but I forgot to try green sauce and fish sauce with chilies that were served with it (was genuinely too distracted by the durian curry). Thai tea creme brulee: literally tastes exactly like Thai ice tea, but with the creme brulee crunch on top. Perfect. Lemongrass gimlet (gin, lemongrass, quinquina, yellow chartreuse, lime cordial): excellent and easy to drink. The lemongrass pairs well with the herbal yellow chartreuse. Thai tea (Mekhong, blackstrap rum, Thai tea blend, toasted rice orgeat, lemon, orange condensed milk foam, cardamom). Where the brulee had a true-to-tea flavor, this mai tai riff (mai thai tea would've been a great name) is more of an ode than an exact alcoholic replica of Thai tea. I loved it, though I love the molasses notes in blackstrap rum, which was dominant here. The condensed milk foam on top is thick and almost functions as a whipped cream. Other notes: -the front of the restaurant appears to double as a little shop with Thai products that you can presumably purchase. -presumably you can actually shop at the -The space looks great and the vibes are trendy but casual. -smaller parties can sit at the bar or at round tops near the bar. Generally larger groups were seated in the back dining area. -Our server was so nice and very chill.

We were able to walk in at about 8:45 on a Saturday with no wait for bar seating. It's a very cool vibe. We only ordered dinner - shared the fried chicken appetizer and I got the Crab Durian Curry. Everything was yummy and spicy. Would love to come back for drinks & dessert next time.

Interesting new Thai restaurant in Flatiron. The food is delicious and the service is very good. Great addition to the area.

    Chicken wings, Durian Curry

We did two rounds of orders - the first round was a 10/10 - durian curry, drunken noodle, and the chicken wings. My fave was def the chicken wings. The second round was kind of mid - it was the sausage and the fried rice. They were out of the drink I wanted to order so I got two of the martinis, which were delicious and adorable in their tiny little cups. They didn't have the tables set up to handle a large group reservation so they had us get up to shift our table a couple of times in between the dinner.

Crab Durian Curry/Kaeng Kua- Lump crab, coconut milk, spaghetti squash. $36. Our favorite. Delicious and perfect for a durian fan such as me

Minor side note/mini review- Was with some folks sharing everything with one person who doesn't eat meat, so we got all seafood. Luckily, it was stellar, with our favorite being the crab durian curry, and I would say the flavors make up for the prices, at least for what we ordered. Would go back. I went to this new crowded Thai restaurant with a group about a week ago. They have a funky and fun atmosphere with plenty of odd and amusing pictures on the walls, and they were a bit loud. The lighting was a tad dim, so I had to use night mode, which resulted in some of my images not turning out the best quality. The staff was friendly and very receptive regarding allergies, and we had a good time here with a couple of excellent dishes and a couple of good ones. To drink, a bunch of us split a bottle of the French 2021 Petite Manseng Ode d'Aydie from Vignobles Laplace. This is $19 a glass or $76 for a bottle and was tasty, reminding me of a minerally version of a Pinot Grigio. I haven't had this type of grape before, but I would look for it again, and obviously at a cheaper price at Astor Wines or another wine store. The first dish that arrived was the Salmon and Market Fruit Yum for $24 with raw Ora King salmon, cherry tomato, onion, and chili. The raw salmon was of good quality with several large meaty pieces, and the fruit in this case was grapes. There was a pleasant amount of heat, with some nice sourness, and the dish reminded me of a smaller, slightly fancier version of the sadly closed SamMuk in Jackson Heights, with better-quality and thicker pieces of salmon, but a bit less spicy and a bit less complex. The best dish of the night was the one I was looking forward to the most. This was the Crab Durian Curry/Kaeng Kua for $36 with lump crab, coconut milk, and spaghetti squash. I love durian, and this is the first time I've seen it cooked in a dish outside of desserts in a good while. The crab was plentiful, and the delicious durian mash was at the bottom, and became a pleasant contrast to the curry after mixing. This paired perfectly with the rice, though I do believe we had to pay an extra $5, but that is the case with most Thai spots now, unfortunately. There was also the Seafood Tom Yum for $36 with head-on prawn, mussels, squid, milk, tomato, garlic, galangal, lemongrass, lime, chili, cilantro, culantro, and mushroom. This was the dish I was most concerned about due to my severe allergy to cephalopods, and they were able to serve the squid on a separate plate for the other people sharing with me. The dish had plenty of mussels in particular, and the shrimp inside were fresh and plump. It was a bit less spicy and less tamarind-intense than most tom yum, but the flavor was nice overall, and I would recommend it for sharing. The last main dish was the Fried Fish Pa Cha for $28 with branzino, chili, garlic, basil, peppercorn, and grachai, which is also known as fingerroot and is a type of ginger. This was my least favorite of the main dishes, as the fish wasn't super crispy, unlike at some other spots, though it was pretty well-portioned, being cut into large pieces. It had an herbal flavor with a mild level of heat, with the greens adding a bit of crunch. It was also surprisingly a bit sweet. While not my favorite, it was still pretty good. This Thai spot is already crowded and for good reason. It reminds me in some ways of a better version of Fish Cheeks, at least in terms of the seafood dishes. I am looking forward to trying some of the meat options as well next time. Would recommend.

Heard about this new kid on the block in the NYC Thai food scene so I had to check it out! My party of 4 really enjoyed our meal and the dishes but nothing really stood out for me, especially compared to other popular Thai restaurants in the city. Apps: The roasted chili eggplant dip was solid with a nice spice kick. The shrimp chips and veggies were a nice vehicle that went well with the eggplant. The chicken wings were freshly fried and had a nice kaffir lime leaf seasoning. The northern style pork sausage was just fine. Entrees: The duck curry and the chili jam clams were probably my favorite dishes. The duck meat was tender but it only came with one duck leg - wish it had more meat pieces. Curry was fragrant. The clams were fresh with a savory and spicy sauce. Pad kee mao featured chewy noodles and overall was well seasoned. The branzino pieces in the fried pad cha relied on the sauce to give it flavor and I felt that the fried layer was a tough. Dessert: The sticky "r-ice" cream was essentially ice cream in a sticky-rice flavor which was yummy! Texture felt more like a gelato cause it melted quick. The market fruit turned out to just be strawberries. Drinks: Lemongrass gimlet featured a strong lemongrass flavor in a background of gin, while the jasmine martini radiated strong jasmine tea flavors. I liked the dim, intimate lighting and the hip vibes. Staff were polite and friendly. I wish the portion sizes were bigger especially for its price point. Overall a fun place for some good Thai food, but not sure what they can uniquely offer in the competitive NYC Thai food landscape.

This place is unserious, fitting, given that LenLen in Thai roughly means just playing around. Unfortunately, the food felt the same way. The meal was the low part of the evening - pretty much a C-grade Thai takeout dressed up with some gimmicks to justify Flatiron pricing. The crab curry was overly sweet, almost desserty and suspiciously like it was made with store-bought curry paste. The rest of the meal was bland - a boring pad thai (not enough sauce), a fake pad kra prow with Italian basil despite holy basil being listed on the menu. Another sticking point was the seating. As a party of two, you will be seated at a shared table with another couple. It was awkward, not particularly private and made my partner feel uncomfortable. This place feels like another instagram bait - a mediocre operation cashing in on the Thai food boom without much care to the food and experience.

I was immediately struck by how beautiful this place is. Everything has been well thought out from the lighting to the little green tiles on the walls. The service is great! I think my servers name was George. He is also a bartender so he took extra care with describing our drinks. He did a great job recommending dishes and describing them as they came to the table. The food was a 10/10. I loved the unique take on the papaya salad with the addition of strawberries. The brightness of the fruit added to the tangy crispness of the papaya. The beef tartar larb was incredible. It had a little bit of spice. I loved the fish entree! It was well cooked, great flavor. The crab durian curry is very unique, I don't think you'll get it anywhere else. If you like durian, get this dish! The durian flavor sneaks up on you, it's very present for me. For my friend, it wasn't. We finished with a Thai tea crème brûlée. I've never had anything like that before. The Thai tea flavor was present but not overpowering. I loved it.

neon walls of instant ramen? I'm there - such a cute and well decorated Northern Thai restaurant. our waiter was so sweet and his energy added to the colorful, happy experience - I've never had a Thai eggplant dip and this was such a surprising appetizer (aka "snack" on their menu) due to the depth of its flavor. it looked like a gelatinous texture yet was pretty creamy. the first taste was smooth and lightly eggplant forward, but the aftertaste was acidic and spicey. - it came with crispy rice crackers to snap apart and a bowl of vegetables. the vegetable bowl was giving ~straight from the earth~ with a oddly shaped veggies, a singular piece of cauliflower and a singular piece of radish. the vegetables were definitely fresh but dipping with ripped pieces of straight up cabbage wasn't the most appealing - the pad see ew was a delicious choice. super chewy rubbery noodles with a ton of chicken, loving that protein serving. there was a delicious array of vegetables adding variety to each bite. - the market green curry was deceptively spicy. the curry was very liquidy (this sounds dumb but serving onto plates made it hard to eat even when placed on the rice) but had such a smooth texture. the vegetables and tofu were well cooked but the super liquidy nature of the curry made it soak into and pile on the vegetables less. it was super spicy but not to a degree that overpowered all the flavor

It's a nice space with a warm vibe. Everything smells great when you first walk in. Tried the papaya salad - which was good but didn't seem pounded like it was supposed to be. Had a nice spice kick though eggplant dip - is ok but not sure what is in it The hanger steak special - too sweet and the slices were to big to eat with just a knife and spoon branzino stir fry - was also too sweet. Perhaps the chef is heavy handed with the sugar or I am super sensitive to sweetness. Overall the balance between sweet, spicy, sour, and salty seemed off.

Just when I thought NYC had enough elite Thai restaurants LenLen has really made quite the debut. Put its food right up there with any of the best thai restaurants in the city. They've got some usual suspects, some inventive dishes, and a great bar program. Staff were super friendly. If you order one dish get the durian crab curry. Its special. Ive really enjoyed the crab curry from fish cheeks but this one was better. Slightly on the sweeter side but when you drizzle some of the additional sauces it really sings. Other details: the restaurant is designed after the chophouse the owners parents had in Thailand. Its got this 80's feel with lots of nostalgic photos and design elements. Looked large enough to seat 100 so hopefully getting another reservation wont be too difficult cuz this place is gonna be popular.

The staff were nice & attentive though the food could use a little fine-tuning. They were quick to refill water throughout the night and was able to make spice level adjustments on the food. The interior was well decorated albeit a bit dimly lit. It was loud inside but you could still have a conversation across the table. The sweet garlic pork was good even though it wasn't much to look at. The presentation could use some work as it felt like they just tossed it straight from the fryer onto the plate. I was expecting it to be dry and overcooked, but it turned out tender. It was paired with a side of a sweet chili-like sauce. The pad kee mao and chicken green curry (not on the menu) tasted pretty standard for Thai fare. In my opinion, the portion size was rather small for the price but overall it's a decent thai spot that felt a bit more upscale.

I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way. It was a fun play with the green curry and saffron. This place is a little loud, so it is not easy to have a convo with your party. I am old so this probably wouldn't have been something I clocked in my younger years. They do have food which looks intriguing. Especially anything with truffles on it. If in the area, would definitely consider coming back for a quick drink and bite. REVIEW #4013
