3.6 #24 spring rolls of 4 - $8.75 cash / $9.06 card #2 medium bowl w/ fixins - $14.95 cash / $15.47 card #9 grilled pork chop noodle soup - $14.50 cash / $15.01 card *NOTE - This place and Pasteur on the same block are the only ones open on a Monday The amount of food given was good. The broth came hot but it felt more oily. It was definitely a less clean tasting broth and more beefy in a oily-coat-your-throat way. I like that the #2 bowl has eye of round, brisket, tripe, tendon and beef balls. #3 has everything BUT beef balls. There was a good amount of noodles, but I prefer the cleaner tasting broth next door at Nha Trang. The spring rolls were good. They show both cash and card price here which was interesting. It made the menu chaotic to look at but it definitely was helpful to see price differences. Price wise, it is in the middle between the three viet spots on this block. I would come here again if Nha trang was closed for a quick viet meal

It's been almost a decade since I've dined here and portion sizes stayed the same but the flavor of the broth is not as soothing as I remember. We came on a below freezing day to get pho to warm up and were satisfied. Not sure why they don't give the mint leaves and lime anymore but some type of herb and lemons instead for garnishing. Prices have definitely increased with inflation but I'm glad this spot survived the pandemic and is still getting bustling business.

Super quick service, yummy food, good portions! Fried chicken thigh was crunchy and moist. Grilled pork in the vermicelli was charred nicely and flavorful. I would come back!

Wow, this restaurant really hit a sense of Viet nostalgia for me. Haven't visited a place with this vibe in NYC until now. Fairly large menu. At first glance, everything besides my rice dish seemed a little higher priced, but I was willing to try. First off, the cơm tấm sườn bì chả rice place is a huge serving--I moved the meat cuts and it was FOUR separate pieces. I was shocked but thoroughly satisfied. No chili oil (my preferred favorite) but they do have freshly cut green chilis which do pack the heat. Also, as soon as I saw the soda egg yolk, I knew I couldn't leave without it. Rarely see a restaurant anywhere serve that. It was really fun, refreshing, and comforting.

Authentic Vietnamese food and it was pretty good! I don't have any basis of comparison but I enjoyed the meal. Lots of unique choices like tendon, intestine, tripe, frog legs, fish paste, fermented shrimp, etc. it's a great place for an adventurous eater. The broth in the soup was light, mild but full of flavor and delicious. The fresh basil, mint, parsley and cucumber was definitely needed to cleanse pallet from the fattiness and flavors from the intestines, pork belly and fermented fish paste. It was an interesting and enjoyable meal to experience.

Stopped here for lunch on a weekend and it wasn't too packed when we arrived so we were able to get seated right away. They have a bunch of options on their menu and some drinks as well. I ordered their Tai - just beef round eye and it came relatively quickly which was nice. The portion is a good and reasonable size for the price and the servers were friendly and attentive. Definitely a lot of in and outs as lots of people also stopped by to pick up their takeout, overall ambiance is nice and cozy inside.

Very solid Vietnamese restaurant! Lots of great options, the calamari, thit nuong, and egg rolls were actually really great. Service is quick and prompt, it is a no frills place. I will return.

Affordable no frills Vietnamese restaurant! The food comes out as it's ready and it's very quick. There is minimum waiter interaction but easy to flag one down if you need anything. Chopsticks, spoons and sauces are all ready to use at the table. Overall a yummy and filling spot to get a meal

came here with the fam on a weekday and was seated right away. The best viet spot in Chinatown in my opinion! Spring rolls were crispy and the pho / broth was flavorful. Good sized bowl tbh you'll def be leaving full lol. Have been coming here since high school and it's always been my go to spot for Vietnamese food in the area!

RATING: 3.5/5 - Thai Son gets the job done. Perhaps it used to be better. I like that this spot is spacious and bright. The pho is alright, not the best, but, again, gets the job done. I recently ordered their BBQ Pork Banh Mi, which came out to ~$15.50! (A bit pricey for a banh mi, if you ask me.) However, I was so hungry that I devoured it - it was delicious! The bread was nice and crispy and pork was grilled nicely. The staff here is meh. I ordered my banh mi to go, sat on the side for over 10 min, and had to go up to the counter to ask for it. The banh mi had been sitting there, but I wasn't made aware that it was ready.. Anyway, I personally prefer Nha Trang One a bit more, right next door, for their pho, imo.

I came here one evening without a reservation and was seated right away. The service here is a bit spotty but after you order, the food comes out pretty fast. I got the bun cha gio when I went and it was pretty solid. The egg rolls were crispy and SOOO big. The veggies (which were at the bottom of the bowl, not quite sure why as it made the dish difficult to eat) were fresh and plentiful. I would come back to try some of their other Vietnamese dishes.

Popped in for a late lunch and was so hungry. The restaurant was actually pretty filled for such an off lunch hour. Service is quick and friendly. You can order by number or name of the dish. There is prices on the menu that display if you are paying with credit card or cash options. I ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls and beef cubes over rice. Both came out quick and together. The spring rolls were extra crispy in a good way and filled with flavor. The beef cubes was marinated well and tasted good. The meal hit the spot and was very filling.

Came here a few times, not the best not the worst...Food is tasty enough and comes out super fast...do not expect any kind of good service, rush you to order so you can eat, pay and turn the table over fast...Don't come here in summer or winter you you will either be boiling or freezing your bum off, lolz. Tried 6 things they charge you 50 cents for the good containers fyi, kind of stingy for ordering over $100 in food and paying in cash.

The food always arrives hot, is always well packaged and tasty. My personal go to is the SHAKING BEEF Bo Luc Lac Stir fried Angus steak cube) bun. It is served Served w. Side Salad & Nuoc Cham: (Romaine, Cucumber, Pickled Mustard, Grape Tomatoes, Carrots & Daikon). I appreciate the choice of Vermicelli rice noodle, Thai Jasmine rice or Solely Salad. I always choose rice and the packaging is amazing, the beef is kept seperate from the rice and arrives hot and aromatic. My mom also loves this dish but ordered it with the solely salad and opts for double veggies. We have also tried several of the bahn mini including the lemongrass chicken, the brisket and the braised short rib. All are tasty. I do recommend adding the dip for $1 as it really takes it to the next level! I ordered the lychee iced tea sweetened today. It was sweet but not too sweet which I appreciated and as with everything from 5ive spice very thoughtfully packaged in a way that there is no leaking in transit. 5ive spice has some great all day and happy hour specials, I look forward to trying their food in person when I am in the area. Customer service: One time, on a particularly busy weekend in NYC, I received the wrong bahn mi sandwich. I ordered the brisket bahn mi and received the lemongrass chicken. When I called 5ive Spice, I spoke to the manager John who was incredibly apologetic and explained it was a very busy night, without offering excuses. He offered a full refund and invited me to order again and call and he would include a complimentary bahn mi. For what it's worth, it was a very busy night in NYC, all of the restaurants we were trying to get take out or delivery from were quoting 2+ hours, and John handled the situation perfectly. The food we received was tasty and did arrive on time.

I ordered "Plain Pho", which is described as just broth and noodles, no garnish or meat. After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.
