Had a great experience at Saigon Shack. The staff was really nice, the food was really good, and the atmosphere was great too. We had the Thai iced tea and the Saigon pho, and both hit the spot. Definitely a solid place to come back to.

A friend and I came by for lunch on a Sunday and they were quite busy. We decided to share a Classic Beef Pho ($13.95) and Grilled Pork Banh Mi ($12.95). The food came out fairly quick and everything was solid. I'm surprised how popular this spot is. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's nothing that special either. I suppose with not many Vietnamese option in Manhattan, this is as good as it gets. Note: Cash only, which is a bit annoying even though they have an ATM in front of the restaurant. Luckily, there's a BofA at the end of the block if you bank with them.

I came here with my dad for lunch. We shared the fresh spring rolls with shrimp, the mango-papaya salad, and a pork bahn mi. The food was delicious. Service was fast; we were in and out in under 40 minutes. The restaurant is cash-only, so plan accordingly.

True authentic Vietnamese. First time in years having pho resembling the amazing pho I had in over in Saigon, Vietnam. I might be even better! The broth is light but dense with flavor. I had the rare beef pho that finishes cooking in the broth. Tender and delicious. Perfect noodles, herbs, etc. very, very good

Went to try this place . Got the Grilled chicken/shrimp/spring roll vermicelli and is decent.. just okay not that great .. but is still good

A nice relatively inexpensive dinner with friends. There were three of us. Two ordered the Saigon Pho and one the Vegetarian Pho. We found the Saigon Pho flavorful with a decent amount of noodles and protein. The Vegetarian one also had a lot of veggies and more of a vegetable broth flavor (which makes sense) that was less flavorful than the beef broth. We felt they didn't give enough sprouts for three bowls, but I assume people don't even eat what's put on the table, and I'm we could've asked for more if we wanted it. Service was a little scattered because it was a busy and prime dinner time but everyone was nice. There was a wait but they were able to accommodate us and put us outside because we had a dog. There aren't many tables outside only 4 two tops and 1 one top. Overall, would certainly come back again, we asked about the shrimp pho and apparently it gets good reviews, as well, so something to try next time.

Came on a Thursday evening at 7:30pm and was seated within 10 minutes. The place is cash only but if you order online you can pay by card (price is a couple dollars more) and the food will automatically come to the table. - Shrimp Summer rolls: classic, can't go wrong - Spicy S.S. Special Phở: huge bowl with a good amount of meats. I would say the spice level is minimal so you can still taste the beef broth without overpowering it. Casual, no frills place. Service was fast, we put in the order online and it came within 10 minutes.

We missed Saigon Shack last year. We made a point to visit this time. Some of the best Vietnamese food around the area. It always seems to be busy even at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. We ordered the Classic Banh mi which consist of Vietnamese ham, Vietnamese bacon, pate, lettuce, pickled daikon, and carrots, cucumber, and baguette. I had the grilled lemon grass chicken bun (vermicelli). Please note that this is a cash only restaurant. Service is swift. Staff are constantly delivering meals or cleaning tables. The meals were delicious, just as good as I remembered them. Consistent, good quality food. Glad we made the stop. Parking is a challenge. Use public transport, ridesharing, or taxi.

My friends and I all got the classic beef pho because we couldn't decide what to get... and peer pressure lol. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered fried dumplings and spring rolls as appetizers which came out fast. All 6 phos came out even faster! All of our bowls were full and no complaints. Each table had siracha and Hoisin sauce ready to use. I enjoyed the broth the most! Light yet flavorful By the time we left, there was a gathering outside waiting for a seat. It is small inside but get there around 6 on a weeknight and you'll be fine!!

This place is great in the winter when you're looking for warm refuge with good food but a little less great in the summer when it's hot and a tad bit humid inside. The vermicelli bowl was very good & great portions! But it tends to get quite smoky in here with the grilling. Be aware they are a cash only establishment.

Overall: D // 2 stars About three years ago, I had a very intriguing crab cake fusion style Banh Mi that was quite impressive, so i figured I would return to try the rest of their menu. Their spicy brisket banh mi in particular caught my eye, featuring an interesting pineapple slaw that seemed like it would work well. While there was a plentiful amount of meat, I didn't want to eat most of it because it was dry. The beef jus and pineapple sauce could not save how dry the meat was, which is disappointing. Given that this place is also cash only and $15 is not cheap for a Banh Mi compared to other options within a reasonable radius, this is an unfortunate development. The restaurant itself is also quite cramped and so there was nothing positive about the dining experience. Finally stopped by, been meaning to try Stopped here on a Saturday after for an early dinner after seeing a play..a bit of a wait on line..not too bad. Sat at the bar...friendly staff sat me down with a place setting and some water. Took my order promptly and sat down to one of the best pho I've had. The broth was fantastic and flavorful, the most meat I've EVER had in a bowl of pho and the noodles were plenty! Cannot wait to come back for another soon..my new fave

Is there the option of vegetarian pho?

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

I ordered "Plain Pho", which is described as just broth and noodles, no garnish or meat. After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused.
