I got a huge bowl of chicken noodles with veg - there was a wide variety of vegetables which added a lot to the dish, both in terms of flavors/textures but also volume of food. I wouldn't normally think of this when I think of chicken pho, but it was homey in taste (I could picture an auntie cooking this for me). Can't really go wrong with the authentic #1 Pho so we of course got that.. followed by Bun Bo Hue since I'm a spicy junkie. Mi xao don is a bit different than your traditional noodles which are either in soup or dry so this was nice that the sauce softens the noodles but if you get a bit of the deep fried parts, you still get that crunch! I like pairing this with seafood just because it brings back memories of dishes I ate growing up. Banh Uoc comes with the rice paper for you to wrap the pork slices in along with the garnishments. I like to douse mine in Sriracha but if I'm not mistaken, this should be dipped in fish sauce. Yum - it's a nice change from my usual spring rolls. Service was great - waiters didn't rush us and we were able to enjoy our meal in peace while having our tea consistently refilled. I think this might be the second time I've eaten at this restaurant over the last two decades. My mother and I came here on a work day at 11:00 a.m. and they open at 10:30 am. They're ready to take orders. I ordered the curry chicken noodle bowl and my mom ordered one of the pho bowls. Both came out of the kitchen not too long after. You could see the hot vapors coming off the surface of our noodle bowls. We were both pleased with the freshness of the noodles and the protein in the bowls. I had a hankering for pho so while I was in that part of town, I decided to finally visit this place since it came recommended. It was my first time having pho at a sit down restaurant since moving back to nyc from the west coast (takeout doesn't count). They quickly took my order and gave me my glass of water and the usual garnishments (jalapeño, bean sprouts, lime/lemon). I ordered a pho tai gan (pho with steak and tendon). The flavor was good and I was good with the steak. The tendon seemed to be falling apart before it arrived at my table. It's not bad but it is not my preference. A great spot for pho in the city! I always go for a classic beef brisket pho, and theirs did not disappoint. The broth was full of flavor, and the beef was good quality. I have to say, it does irk me when the noodles are all stuck together in one big ball, and it's been like that most times I've been here. If they easily came apart, it would be no issue, but I had to work at it for a bit. But hey, maybe that's part of the experience. I ordered the number 1 big bowl and it had everything that I wanted from brisket, to tripe, and beef. I know this place is good when I do not need to add anything to the broth other than jalapenos. The broth was very clean and clear but very rich. Noodles were plentiful and there was a good amount of meat. After tax and tip, a big bowl was $15, which is very affordable. This is an interesting review to write because I didn't like the way some staff treated other patrons and myself. There was an argument where they didn't give the customer the correct order and still expected them to pay the price. Another instance, a customer had been waiting a long time to pick up their food but wasn't acknowledged so they took the food and were chased back in. It made me hesitant to continue my order. But the woman who brought my soup out was nice and I'm glad that I stayed. The food was delicious. I cannot take that away from them. I ordered the beef flank with the brisket and the meat was extremely tender. The soup came out piping hot. I never know what to season my pho with and with the initial taste, it didn't need much. I still added some sriracha, chili sauce, hoisin sauce, along with the basil, bean sprouts then squeezed the lemon over it. I also ordered a Banh Mi (chicken sandwich) and while I was waiting for it, the soup had cooled down enough for me to basically inhale it. That's how good it was. Although I feel that it took a bit for me to get the sandwich. Not the end of the world, the soup wasn't cold or anything. The Banh Mi was my first, so idk what to compare it to or what it's supposed to taste like. The chicken was sweet, I imagine it's supposed to be. When I dipped the Banh Mi into the soup, something I saw someone else do, it added so much to the flavor. The bread wasn't hard or dry, the sandwich was good on its own. The soup took it to the next level. I wanted to order a watermelon strawberry drink but was told that they were out and that the mango mix they had wasn't very good. I don't know if I should take it as transparency or them trying to get me out. There were staff members who would stand around looking for things to take. Maybe because it wasn't busy. The place is decent size, they have tables in the front and back of the restaurant. The decor is made of bamboo type wood, so the entire interior is wood looking. It is barely adequate lighting leaning towards the darker side. I generally do take out and I've dined in maybe like two times. Service is quite average, just enough. Food menu is quite extensive, with many of the typical Vietnamese dishes you would find in any Vietnamese restaurant. The pho is usually my go to. I wish the sauce pack is a bit bigger. It is in a barely quarter size container. The shrimp roll is ok, it's wrapped in a thick flour skin. The peanut sauce that comes with it is a bit watery. I love that they serve their take out pho orders in the wide black plastic bowls whereas most other places serve them in the tall quart containers. Their bowls make it so much easier to eat in. Their prices have not really changed and as a result, attract more customers during these hard times. I must say though, I've always felt like their portions were smaller than other places. It does not fill my tummy quite as well and I'd have to snack on things afterwards but that's ok. Since long ago, I've liked the kind of vermicelli they use in their pho. I feel like they're smoother than others but that might just be me. Their spring rolls however, are not my go-to. They are petite. I added hoisin sauce, hot chili, peppers, lime and a lot of basil. The price was decent and there was a unexpected amount of beef.
