I have been a loyal customer of Pho 99 for approximately ten years now. Wowza!! Even when I lived up in North Seattle, I still made the drive down to eat a steaming hot delicious bowl of Pho on a weekly basis. The location might be considered 'less than desirable' to some, but hey, who cares as long as the food is tasty! The restaurant is not spic and span clean, but clean enough for my standards. I have come to the realization that when a Pho restaurant is super clean and appealing to the eye, the Pho is always disappointing. So rule of thumb: super clean modern Pho joints = disappointing tasting Pho which is usually couple dollars more per bowl, NOT cool! I usually always order Pho, small number 9 to be exact. The broth is rich and flavorful, but not overpowering or too greasy. It comes with a good amount of meat and noodles. I have also tried the beef stew with noodles and/or bread. I think its tastes OK, just too greasy for my liking. Their rice dishes are not too shabby either. My only complaint would be the spring rolls because every time I order it, they make it so skinny and small! I also appreciate the fact that the workers know my order exactly the way I want it. I am particular about my Pho and a lot of other restaurants seem to get my order wrong (perhaps its the language barrier), but not here! When I start to order: Kay: Small number 9.... Worker: ...with no cilantro, but everything else. Extra lime. Steamed bean sprouts. Side of onions in vinegar. Ice water. Anything else? Kay: *Super cheesy smile* Nope that's it! Thank you! "Worth a Try" Pho 99 reminds me of the little Pho shops that existed before Pho turned into a commodity like Teriyaki. People it's not ok to boil some beef bones for an hour and say hey this is Pho. The broth here is better than most places. It taste like it's actually created with some care and Vietnamese lovin'. It's definitely not packaged like many of the chain Restaurant. This isn't the best Pho place around, but it is better than most. My favorite thing about this restaurant was finding the bathroom. It's like a labyrinth in the back. The owners are friendly, parking is plentiful, and prices are decent. Take a seat here and try it out if you want some Pho. It won't disappoint you. He didn't say anything when he took order and if I repeat my order for make sure, he just stared at me in rude eyes. I am a Pho snob. It's all about the broth, the meat, and the service. I'm not from the Seattle area, so when I come to the West Seattle area - or even the Seattle area in general it feels really overwhelming trying to find a reliably delicious place to go. I've tried Pho Than Bros against the advice from numerous friends. It seemed like a good idea since it had so many other stores and of course was let down. So travelling around the city just to find a good place... can be annoying. You don't want to spend your good money on something that just isn't gonna work out. Right? Oh My God. When I walked into this place - it was popping. That is the only way to explain it. It was packed. All different types of people and races. Which is a great sign. And the food was NOT a let down. The broth - CHECK! The meat - a plenty!! The service - fast, just like it should be... which is amazing considering how full and busy this place was. The prices were so extremely reasonable. Super cheap. We ordered two pho bowls. Boba tea, Vietnamese coffee, and the trio of rolls (pork roll, spring roll, and egg roll) which by the way was freaking amazing!! ... all for about $30. Anyone who thinks you've had the "best" pho, please, I ask you to visit pho 99 and you'll agree wth my review. This place is under-rated and I need to defend this place on some of the comments people left regarding their service. First I have no problem with the service with this place at all. I always asked for extra onions/cilantro/scallions and they always bring out an extra bowl of those for me! No extra costs no nothing! And dude, seriously, you're in an authentic pho restaurant in the White Center! They sit you, take your order, hand you your food and that's it! You go enjoy your pho! If you need anything, raise your hand or holler to servers, they'll bring you what you need in a heartbeat. I mean, Seriously, what service do you expect? If you want servers coming checking in with you every freaking 5 mins, ask you how you like your food, find some nice fancy restaurants downtown or in Ballard! Back to the food, this place has D-MOST flavorable beef broth in town! Before my friend hooked me up with this place, I thought I had had some good pho AND I WAS WRONG! Pho 99 will change your experience and views on any pho you've ever had! I am not exaggerating, IT IS THAT GOOD! Ever since I was introduced to pho 99, I never go back to those places where I went before. And my friend told me the ones that I had from other places, they are the "white pho"! They are Americanized and not authentic. And they are right! I am finally ready to review a couple of Pho places and this is definitely the one I want to review first. I don't have the background to say what is authentic or not for Pho but I do know that Pho 99 is one of the best tasting places that I have been to. Their white onions are delicious and the broth is super hardy and flavorful. A large 9 which is what I get comes with three cuts of beef, most notably for me, fatty beef. I typically have a hard time eating the fat off of meat but this cut is so flavorful it's incredible. It distinguishes this Pho place from others for me. I also like when the beef comes out uncooked, as one of the cuts does here. It lets me get it cooked just to the right quality without being over done. Delicious! Lastly, this place gets the edge over others around here in one area in particular... they have the red chili stuff (I don't know what it's called, no Sriracha) that I LOVE! I add two spoonfuls of this stuff to my Pho and it makes it spicy as hell but awesome. Pho 99 is also open 7 days a week which rocks. I will be back over, and over, and over. read more

My mom and I are both Vietnamese, and she usually cooks pho for me at home whenever she or I feel like it. Whenever we're too lazy to make our own bowl of pho however, there's usually only one choice for us. We live about 8 blocks away, and there are about 4 other pho places even closer to us. But they simply aren't as good. The broth here is flavorful, and it's always the first thing I taste. I always end up sipping all of the broth as well, and I rarely ever do that outside of home. Pho 99 has some of the best pho I have tried, and I have been lucky enough to have Vietnamese friends schlep me to hidden pho houses. Is Pho 99 THE BEST? No. Are they exceptionally good. Yes! The broth when slurped as soon as it is brought to the table has all the flavour requirements for pho. Anise? Check. Cilantro? Check. Black pepper? Check. Beef? Check. Check. CHECK! The noodles have that slight elasticity that good rice noodles should have, not mushy like I have had at other places. *cough* Than Bros. *cough* Also, not a vegetarian or chicken soup in sight. Pho is a BEEF soup. You either get veggie noodle or chicken noodle soup at the other places. They are not Pho. I am most partial to the #18, beef tripe and tendon galore, as well as fatty brisket and flank steak. To gild the lily I will occasionally ask for the beef balls for an extra buck.The plates of mung bean sprouts, thai basil, jalepenos and limes are also gilding, because it is ALL ABOUT THE BROTH. I say, take a moment to take a deep whif of the steaming hot beef broth and savour the flavours that are infused into it. Relish the taste of the cilantro cooked into the broth and the scattered chopped leaves and green onions dotting the surface. Enjoy the beefy beefiness of it. They also make a decent Spring and Summer roll and their rice plates are good. The coffee with evaporated milk is exceptionally strong and pair this with a pho after a night of heavy drinking and you are set to get the chores done. I prefer my pho in the mornings to get me ready to deal with the day. I am not a fan of the parking lot, a bit cramped and the beggars that ask for handouts in it makes this trek a bit trying at certain times of the day. But I go because I know I will always be happy with what I get at Pho 99. read more

Flawless pho every time that I've eaten here, and since I work nearby, that's about once a week. Fast service, the meat is not weird looking (there have been some questionable cuts of beef at some of the places I've been to), and the noodle itself has a nice chewyness to it (which is crucial because some restaurants has it overcooked and it breaks apart too easily). I usually get the special with a side of white onion in vinegar, and if it's been a hard night of partying, a soda chanh (lime juice+sugar+club soda). Food is sparse just outside the airport. Many of the places we pulled up to either looked rundown and skeptical. Finally, we decided to try one of the many Thai restaurants in the area, Pho 99. I was glad to see it inside a quasi mini-mall parking lot. There were a few customers inside, so we decided to check it out. The decor is very simple, almost tacky, with it's laminated tables and worn chairs. There's a slight dirtiness to the whole environment as we experienced firsthand from the utensil baskets supplied on the table. We had to grab several chopsticks and Chinese soup spoons, before finding a semi-clean one. Most had some sort of grease or dirt on them. I ordered the House Special #18, which includes Pho Tai, Nam, Gau, Gan, Sach (Dac Biet) for $6.55. In lamens terms, that is noodle soup with a combination of eye round steak, well-done flank, fatty brisket, soft tendon and beef tripe. I was surprised at how quick our dishes came out, only within a couple minutes from when we ordered. The first thing that I noticed was that the eye round steak was already thrown in the soup. I prefer to throw in the raw slices myself, so I can cook to my liking. Usually the thin slices are overcooked, but I was glad that they just threw it in right before serving, so there was a decent amount of pinkness to the meat. The broth was light yet flavorful. A decent amount of pho, noodles, came with the soup that absorbed the flavors well. The fatty brisket, soft tendon and beef tripe were all fairly fresh and tasty. It made for an authentic and solid pho that I could definitely see myself returning for. I also tried the Grilled Lemon Grass Pork Chop ($6.95), which included two pieces of tenderized, fatty, and flavorful pieces of pork chop. It was ever so slightly greasy, but that was what made it taste so good. The fish sauce was light yet had a subtle note of saltiness, making the pork chops another tasty dish that didn't disappoint. Being that I come from New York, which I've had my fair share of Vietnamese cuisine. I can say that Pho 99 serves some authentic and solid Vietnamese dishes, though nothing worth raving about. If you're on the way to the airport and short on time, Pho 99 is a quick, no-frills establishment with cheap prices and decent portions. Pho 99 is a great pho place that serves up delicious bowls of pho. It's located in White Center, which is an area in Southwest Seattle where seemingly every ethnic group and culture co-exists. The name "White Center" has become a misnomer. There's a large Southeast Asian community in White Center, and at Pho 99 you'll find Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao (Laotian) as well as other non-Southeast Asian ethnicities eating pho side by side. Pho 99 stays busy, especially during lunch time. The pho is outstandingly good. The broth "grabs" me, and this is what I want to happen everytime I set foot inside a pho place. It's authentic and well liked by the locals. Pho 99 is a pho restaurant in the community and the flavor is true and not watered down. At Pho 99, you'll see the owner himself, Hai, working hard in the kitchen. Hai started out his career in the pho restaurant business many years ago as an employee at Pho Hoa in the Rainier Valley. It's reassuring when you see the owner in the kitchen. Besides pho, the bon bo hue at Pho 99 is also consistently delicious. A lot of people order bon bo hue at this place. I have been to this place since September of 2012. I have yet to write a review. It is less than half a block away from where I work at. After returning back to Seattle from Philly I had to fill my 7 year void of Pho. I usually get the small #9 and always ask for extra lime. Service is quick and good. Price is acceptable. If I'm a bit more hungry I will order the Shrimp spring roll sans bacon/pork. I would highly recommend this place for tasty pho with great broth and service. read more

I can't believe I'm just writing the review now. This place was the first place my boyfriend took me to when I moved here from California. Its small. Not fancy but let me tell you.. the pho's are so good. Great balance of flavors. My favorite time to go is dinner time because that's when the broth has already been boiling all day. When you first arrive there, it looks like a place that people will never go to but... there is always people there because this is one of the best pho place in west seattle. my favorite is the #18 w.steak on the side. Gone here for years now, and I can really say its somewhere you would want to go for flavorful and authentic Pho. We ordered: Vermicelli bowl, with the grilled pork and egg roll with the sweet fish sauce on the side. (Pretty big portion, the meat is a little more crumbly than whole, and I would LOVE another eggroll considering it was smaller -- What I did like though is that they did cut the egg rolls into bite size pieces, convenient) ~$6.75 Large special Pho which comes with flanks, brisket, tendon, tripe etc (beefy parts) with a side of onions in vinegar. (Good broth, full of flavor, and with the sour acidity taste of the soaked onions, YUM! Eating the vermicelli bowl and sipping on the broth to wash it down is a GREAT idea, it balances both foods, try it!) ~$6.25 2 sodas and a dessert- which my boyfriend said its called "Chei", its a sweet, coconut-ty liquid dessert, where they have gelatin (hard, small, long, short and different colors) in there. So its nice seeing him every once in a while. I've been eating here since I was a little girl and I would order bun bo hue every single time. And I don't think i'll ever get tired of eating it! I'm surprised I haven't wrote a review for this place yet, being that it's my go-to Pho shop. I'll keep this review short and sweet, because there's not much to say other than it's my favorite in the area. I am absolutely in love with their grilled pork vermicelli bowls! They have a good variety of food here besides just Pho, which is why I also come here. Recently visited this place for a to-go order and was pleased. The broth is a bit more savory than some others (doesn't have that sweet tang that some others have), but it was still just as delicious. I had the #9 which I believed had the round steak, fatty brisket and well done flank. They were soooo generous with the meat, especially for a to go order. Some places barely give you any meat but they truly give you a great deal for your money. I also had the spring rolls which were good, had more lettuce than rice noodle which wasn't bad. The only complaint I have is that their peanut sauce was much more watery. Maybe that's a personal choice but I prefer a thicker texture with some more flavor. The server was also friendly and offered us water while we waited which I so sincerely appreciated. I will be back to try the vermicelli bowls! Will update when I do! read more

Got 2 banh mi and 2 bubble tea. The bubble teas were good, would definitely consider going back just for that. However we all know most reviews are for bad experiences, so here's mine. I ordered a honeydew bubble tea he said okay, kind of dryly but I don't really care cause I don't expect everyone to be super friendly. Then my friend ordered, same thing. I'm just gonna gloss over the fact that he almost got my order wrong had I not corrected him. My friend asked if they had banh mi, to which he says "yeah" then I asked "what kinds do you have?". He looked at me like I asked some stupid question, as if each restaurant doesn't have different variations of banh mis. Then he answers, now I'm already annoyed. When they finished making the banh mi, he packs it up then handed it to us. It's definitely very hard to describe with words but he was extremely smug about it, the type of behavior that says, "here's your shit now get out my store". My friend and i looked at each other and already knew we weren't coming back here again. The banh mis were okay 6.5/10 according to my friend, the bubble tea was pretty damn good. This place is awesome! Very good food. We have had a few dishes here. The Pho is so comforting and yummy. The staff are friendly and they are open seven days a week! My kids love it. They have a big menu and it's affordable for a family of four. We have tried several dishes, all of them were really good. I always get the Lemongrass Chicken dish. It comes with rice and a little bowl of Pho! The Chicken Teryaki is so far the best we have had around West Seattle. read more

This restaurant makes the best Pho I have ever had (OK I have probably only eaten at 10) It's the broth that makes it soo good. The personell are all very friendly and do a great job packing up for take out to assure the same great taste at home as in the cozy restaurant. OK the parking stalls are minuscule and there typically are a bunch of hobos congregating on milk crates in the dirt just around the corner since there is a liquor store across the way. This just adds to making for a more exotic ambiance and hey this is WC after all. I never witnessed any kind of trouble, never had my car scratched or even been pan handled except for the friendly Salvation Army volunteer with the red bucket. And the price is very reasonable especially if 2 peeps share the large portion. read more
