We were taken to a corner where all Asians were seating. The waiter was rude and unprofessional. He put his hand on my shoulder during our ordering. And we hardly saw him again after the food was served. The two person T-bone steak we ordered was salty and over cooked. The top was burned in charcoal. For steak lovers from Texas visiting Peter Luger for the first time and enjoying it with my family was an awesome experience. We like to eat our big weekend meal on Saturday afternoon. Nothing is better than enjoying an epic meal, lovely bottle of wine, a walk and a nap. On this day, that's exactly how it went down. The three of us shared a steak for two, which is a porterhouse, seared, medium rare, and cut at table side. We stuck to the basics with a house salad, french fries, Plump Jack Merlot, and finished off with an ice cream sundae. The steak was all it was supposed to be. The prime beef melts in your mouth like butter. I would take this Midwest beef over just about anything. Service is professional in our waiters were on point. This is one of the oldest in the US and has that old school vibe. It is nice, but not what I would call fancy. It is perfect in my opinion. On a rainy Saturday night in Brooklyn, we didn't feel like going out, so we decided to have Peter Luger delivered. The Door Dash delivery was quick, taking less than an hour. The driver was really nice, and everything arrived just as expected. Everything was packaged nicely by Peter Luger. you could tell they spent some time thinking through how to package take out and delivery. Nice job! We started with the Iceberg Wedge Salad, which was supposed to come with crumbled blue cheese and chopped bacon. The salad was really fresh and crispy, and the bacon added a good flavor. It was a nice way to start the meal. It was strange though because we added the blue cheese and bacon, but it didn't seem like we got the extra toppings. Next, we had the Single Steak, which was big enough for 2-3 people. I guess we have small stomachs. We asked for it to be medium-rare, but it came out medium instead. It was okay, but I've had better steaks at places like Mastro's or even at home; especially for the price. We also got 2x Luger Bacon, and the first two courses were so rich and filling that we couldn't even finish the thick, tasty bacon strips. Note, it's $8.95 per strip. There was already plenty of bacon in the salad, so we didn't need more. After taking a break for an hour, we ate the dessert. The pecan pie came with a whopping load of whipped cream. I am pleased to say, 24 years later, that steak cooked perfectly is still there. Going with two other people for lunch we got there a little after the open. I came here to celebrate my fiancé's birthday as this is a classic New York institution for steak. Make sure you make reservations a month ahead or you will be very limited with seating. We arrived half an hour early, so enjoyed two Old Fashioned ($18) while we waited for our table to be ready. The cocktails were nice and strong. Note that you need to close out your tab at the bar before getting seated. As soon as we sat down, they brought over the steak sauce, bread and butter for us already. We started off with an order of the Bacon ($8.95), which was actually perfect between the complimentary bread. The heat from the bacon also helped melt the butter drizzled with some steak sauce, which was the perfect combo together. For the entree, we got the Rib Steak for Two ($154.95) with Fries for 1 ($9.95) and Asparagus ($16.95). The steak comes out sizzling hot as they serve a few pre-cut pieces for you. Some of the steak was a bit fatty, but it was good and tender. The asparagus were thick and crunchy, which was a great balance with all the meat you're eating. Also, really enjoyed the fries that were super crispy too. We finished all the food, but we definitely stuffed. We couldn't end the meal without a dessert with their homemade schlong (whipped cream) though. We ordered the Apple Strudel ($14.95) with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream ($7.95). The ice cream was a needed pairing to the warm dessert. We probably couldn't done without the dessert, but it is great to share for the table. Overall, great classic steakhouse. The food was fantastic but they lost a star mostly for the slow service. We came for lunch (be sure to make a reservation). Between the two of us we shared a huge slice of bacon, a crab cake and the steak sandwich with fries. The crab cake was perfect, crispy on the outside with little to no filler mixed in with the crab plus it's huge! It comes with a sauce but I asked for extra of the horseradish spread that comes on the steak sandwich and I enjoyed the crab more with the horseradish than the sauce it came with. The bacon tasted to me more like ham steak because it is so thick but it was still really tasty. The steak sandwich was very tender but it could have used a little more steak. They have a house made steak sauce that I found a tad too sweet versus tangy. We both had the draft Luger Lager and it went great with the meal. The food came out in a timely manner but it took too long to get a second beer and then later to get the check and to-go boxes considering it wasn't that busy. Take your pick - being one of the oldest steakhouses in NYC, the quality of the food, their (former) Michelin Star, their cash/debit only policy, the zero-star review from NYT food critic Pete Wells, or the numerous posts influencers make about it. No matter the reason why, there is no doubt PL's is super popular and a major attraction point for locals and tourists alike. I am not a big red meat eater, but wanted to experience it for myself. That being said, my friend and I decided to book a table and off we went. PL's has been around since 1887 - the original location is here in Brooklyn, and they have additional locations in Great Neck, Vegas, and Tokyo. We arrived on time for our reservation to a crowded bar area; after checking in and a short wait, we were led to our table. The restaurant is separated into different dining rooms with simple and classic decor - think dark wood tones contrasting with lightly-painted walls. There's exposed beams that are accented with tasteful chandeliers and simple wooden tables/chairs with no tablecloths. I've been to other steakhouses that are more ornate in decor, but this worked. The menu is simple - simpler than other steakhouses but the essentials were there. Probably the biggest differentiation to other spots is that when it comes to steak they only offer two types that serves multiple people - though you can get a single steak and there are a few other proteins available. We started with drinks - I got one of their craft cocktails which was quite good - smooth and tasty. The bread basket shouldn't be ignored - they serve a variety of rolls which were all soft and fresh; my favorite was the onion roll. For apps we started with the bacon and Caesar salad. The bacon was thick-cut and huge - like substantial enough that one slice is enough for one person. Even with that, it was easy to manage, not overly fatty, had great flavor, and wasn't too salty - I was honestly surprised how much I enjoyed it. The salad was also good - dressed well with a good ratio of greens to croutons to cheese. They also served these in individual plates for us which I thought was a nice touch. We of course got the steak, which was great. It was served sizzing and cooked to our request. The beef was delicious on its own, but we did pair some bites with the steak sauce that was served at the start of the meal - seriously the sauce is great, put it on everything. The steak was as good if not better than ones I've had at other houses. We also got two sides - German potatoes and creamed spinach. These were great - the potatoes had great flavor and contained crispy bits that elevated them. The creamed spinach wasn't overly creamy which I really appreciated - the greens were the star. We ended with dessert and shared the ice cream sundae - this was excellent, plenty for two and topped with their homemade whipped cream. Service was excellent - I've heard this has historically been a sore spot for PL's but from my perspective it was on point. Food came out at a good pace, and our server was really friendly - making great suggestions. Some hot tips if you're planning on going - a reservation was relatively easy to make, though I would make one a few weeks out if you're planning to go for dinner. Their steak sandwich and burger are two menu highlights, but they are only available during lunch service (until 4pm). Finally, they only take cash or debit card. Overall, I'm glad I finally experienced Peter Luger - despite the criticisms I found nothing but excellent food and great service; there's a reason this is a NYC institution.
