My prior visit was in 2006 so it was about time. Possibly it was user error that I got the burger medium-well instead of medium; it was good but not game-changing. But the fries were great, along with the horseradish-laden sauce and the wonderfully oniony, bialy-esque bread. The service was first-rate. I appreciate that the lunch options are available for those use who might want to enjoy this historic space without a triple-digit bill.

Made a reservation at opening (11:45 AM) and had an excellent meal at Peter Luger Steakhouse. Ordered: Steak for 2: $155.90 -- perfectly cooked, classic Luger experience Bacon: $8.95 -- thick, salty, shareable, excellent starter Luger burger + cheese + fries: $29.85 -- very flavorful, highly recommended Creamed spinach: $18.95 -- good texture, but not worth the price Baked potato: $9.95 -- very large, slightly overpriced Apple strudel: $14.95 -- highly recommend, especially with schlag Coffee: $3.50 -- excellent with schlag Drink: ~$20 Total: $284 (left $350 with tip) Portions are generous, service is attentive, and the meal overall is excellent. Perfect for a splurge or special celebration, and I would definitely book again. Peter Luger delivers the classic steakhouse experience -- no surprises, just high-quality meat and traditional sides done right.

Came here for dinner. Atmosphere was old and casual vibe. Service was very professional and old school as any steakhouse usually is. We had ordered the iceberg salad with extra bacon for appetizer. I liked the bacon a lot. It was very smoky. The bleu cheese in the salad was good too. For entrees, we ordered medium rare steak for 2 (porterhouse cut) and medium rare ribeye for 2 with large fries. Our favorite was the porterhouse cut. The filet migon on the porterhouse was definitely very tender. Fries tasted similar to five guys. Dessert, we order chocolate mousse cake came with whipped cream Chocolate was rich and balanced with the cream Overall, it was nice to try once but probably will not come back for the steak. Steaks were all unevenly cooked not sure if that was the same cooking method back then but modern steakhouses let their meat rest before cutting into it, otherwise you get well done on the outside and then rare on the inside (like we see here). The fat inside the steaks weren't rendered as expected from the youtube videos I've seen. I get that they say to cook it the rest of the way from the hot butter but it's not enough time & butter for the whole steak. Might try the burger for lunch next time.

The Good: Steak done medium rare was delicious! Perfectly seared exterior crust yet still tender and juicy. Jumbo shrimp cocktail was gigantic and tasty. The Wedge salad with thick cut bacon and blue cheese was a flavor bomb. The Bad: A bit out of the way, but with steak this good, who cares! Service was efficient and neutral, not overly friendly. We were ok with it. The Ugly: Portion for two (Porterhouse is the standard) is plenty and can be overwhelming for light meat eaters. We tried but just couldn't find room to finish that one last piece. Oh, and that also left no room for dessert since we were so stuffed.

Spending nearly $400 for this experience was honestly very disappointing and far below expectations. The food itself was decent, but I seriously question whether it was worth the price. What made it worse was the service -- our server was unfriendly, inattentive, and had an attitude that made us feel unwelcome throughout the meal. For a restaurant with this reputation and price point, I expected professionalism and hospitality, but unfortunately that was not the case. Also, not accepting credit cards in this day and age is extremely inconvenient and should be made much clearer to guests in advance. Overall, while the food was okay, the service and overall experience were far below expectations and did not justify the cost.

In all honesty, I was not very happy with my experience at Peter Luger. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. I've seen some great reviews online and was excited to take her to a fancy steakhouse. Unfortunately, we were let down at every turn. The ambiance isn't the best. The place itself is historic, but the lights are on very bright and the tables are kind of just cluttered around. Our tables were right by the hooks, which was a bit annoying since other guests were hanging their coats on right behind us. The food was a 7/10 at best. I've had better steaks at much cheaper steak houses. We got a medium rare rib steak that was slightly overcooked. The steak was super oily and slightly rubbery. We also got some sides (spinach and potatoes) both of which I felt I could make at home. The service wasn't as expected either. They were nice but also not the most hospitable. It was a cold winter day so I understand not being the happiest at work, but it just didn't feel as friendly as I'd expect at any restaurant. When we were eating our bread, a waiter walked by and said "I wouldn't eat much bread if I were you" then later came back and said "I told you so" in a somewhat rude way when we didn't finish our sides all the way. Overall, I wouldn't want to come back. I'd definitely consider a different steakhouse. Maybe we came on an off day but I didn't really enjoy it in all honesty.

Hmm I'm stumped. Not the experience I was expecting or hoping for after hearing so much praise for this place on tv over the years. My husband and I came to NY specifically to eat at this steakhouse. We started with the shrimp cocktail which were huge, cold/refreshing, and served with an excellent cocktail sauce! For our entree, we ordered the steak for two with Luger's potatoes and creamed spinach. The steak was served medium-rare on a sizzling platter, already sliced and still cooking in its own juices. The potatoes were great and reminded me of home fries. The "creamed" spinach was the most bland and uncreamy kind I've ever had! It was disappointing. This place has what they call "silver service" where the waiter will transfer the food from the platter onto your plate. I understand this concept is supposed to be formal & fancy, but it just feels outdated and parental, like a mother feeding her child. I am an adult and would prefer to choose my own slice of steak (and sides too for that matter!). This part was a big turn off for me. Our meal also came with their very own Peter Luger's steakhouse sauce. I was excited for this as I love sauces and dipping anything in anything...but it was shockingly bad!! It tasted like a strange version of ketchup, which is exactly what I do NOT want to dip my steak in. A1 Steak Sauce would have been much better! There were some good and not so good parts here but overall, my experience was very underwhelming in comparison to the hype. However, I would still recommend checking it out and deciding for yourself ;)

Everything you'd expect and a little more. Damian and Forrest were great for our welcoming experience, we were treated well and just. Came in on a holiday for lunch to try the NYC famous burger and it did not disappoint. Brought my girlfriend for her birthday an all the staff made an effort for her to be appreciated and feel special. Even as i write this i still think about that burger. Inside was great, feels very old school and even w/ a hint of dining at a Disney park restaurant. Pay special attention to the large steins and artwork in the main dining rooms. Will come back for dinner sometime soon.

What a fabulous establishment in an old school steak house ambience. In this unpretentious surrounding is a very special and delicious dining experience. The steak set for 4 easily fed our group of 6 and the steaks were probably the BEST I've ever eaten. We started with a Cesar salad and it was prepared traditionally and perfectly. I loved the cream of spinach side that wasn't overly dripping with cream. Our waiter was so attentive and full of personality it made for a great experience. He took care of everything. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New York as we did.

We had a great waiter that was very personable. Went to celebrate a birthday and it was a good experience. Steak and sides are great. Family friendly but have to be very careful with the hot plates. Amazing lychee martini . There's parking ! Best part

Snagged a spot for an early dinner at 4:15 on a Saturday. I had high hopes for this establishment but the experience didn't live up to expectations. To start, being seated took almost as long as the dinner, even though we had a reservation. Seems like they do 'batch' reservations so everyone arrives at the same time. Things seemed mismanaged and the staff seemed a bit...unprofessional. Perhaps it was an off day, but our waiter was absolutely inattentive, unfriendly, and not worth the $260 price tag for two drinks, a steak, and some fries. We even needed to ask other waiters to fill our water glasses -- and they were kinder and friendlier -- perhaps we were just unlucky. Food wise, the steak was OK. The fries were plentiful, as they should be, for $18. The drinks were mediocre. The free bread rolls were possibly the best part of the meal (or the part I am least bitter about). It's not for the faint of heart, adding photos of the medium rare steak, and the entire meal. I'll also add - the table wasn't clean which was off-putting for a 'white table cloth' establishment. Maybe it was just an off day - but we crossed it off of our bucket list and I wouldn't recommend going back.

The food was amazing! I loved the presentation and the way everything was served. I truly enjoyed my visit and would absolutely love to come back. When I first walked in, the restaurant was very busy, which made me curious about how the food would be. I was pleasantly surprised, and I even enjoyed the bread! The servers were calm yet efficient, skillfully managing multiple tables while carrying several plates at once. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, with a classic American steakhouse vibe that made the experience feel both formal and memorable.

Do they take walk ins on Friday / Saturday nights? If so, what's the best time to go?

    Better you make reservations.

    Lamb chops good for 2?

A friend of mine usually gets them. They are pretty thick/double thick. You get two of them, so you can probably share. I'm also a steak person, but I must say they are very tasty!

    Is there a dress code?

Not really. I wore a track suite and my son had jeans and a Tshirt. You can't wear swimwear or offensive clothing but other than that they are pretty relaxed

If you have a valet parking for dinner at 4 pm?

There is no valet but there is a self parking private lot for free across the street.

Are you you open on January 1st for dinner?

    R u open January 1st for dinner

Is this place by reservation only? Is there walk-ins available?

Walkins are allowed however, I highly recommend a reservation because they're always busy

Is there a price difference between lunch and dinner menus?

No The only difference that there are lunch specials available each day

How easy is it to do a walk-in for 2 on a friday night?

Not going to happen... more than likely

Can I make a reservation online for party of 2?

    Yes, you can.

I see from the online reservation system that you cant make a reservation for more than a month in advance. Is that true?

    Yes that's true.

No more reservations. Bedt way get seated for solo diner, come when they open?

Yes, there are a limited number of walk up accommodations usually made. Also the eating at the bar is an option. I would recommend the spots near the windows.

Can you eat at the bar?

    Yes. You can.

Can I order a medium steak or does it have to be medium rare?

You can, but it won't come out that way.

We're catching a flight right after we finish up with lunch, is PL able to hold a couple pieces of luggage for a couple hours?

You mean while dining? Or you want them to watch your stuff when you're done? They won't hold your luggage.

Whats the attire? Should I dress up or is casual/nice ok?

Casual is fine. There were people in shorts there when I went.

Do I have to make a reservation for 1 for lunch on a weekday?

From my experience, you don't need to make a reservation for one person, there are plenty of seats on a weekday lunch

Do you need to make reservation for a party of 3?

My group of 3 didn't, we didn't wait to long and had a drink at the bar while we waited.

Do you require vaccination card to dine in now?

    No need!

    Are the steaks halal?

    No they are not halal!

    Can you BYOB?

No. But they have a wonderful and reasonably priced wine list!

This is not the city for Mexican food, I do not care who tries to sway me. It simply. Does not. Work. The trend continues at this tiny cantina in Dyker Heights. I paid $40 for mediocrity, maybe even a step or two below it. The staff is friendly and cute, and speaking Spanish will get you further, but the food drops off significantly after the promising chips and dip. When I ordered the Queso Fundido, I was looking forward to a sharp Mexican blend with ground chorizo and some extra chips to boot. Instead I got what looked like blended Oaxaca cheese, an onion top, and some very unattractive bits of chorizo that were begging me not to eat them. So I did not. I ate the cheese because the cheese was pleasant, but the fact it comes with flour tortillas does not help its cause. When I ordered the Tortilla Soup, I was hoping for a nice blend of Mexican spices, shredded chicken, avocado, and tortilla strips. While I did get that, I also got bland flavors and a lack of any personality with the soup. In fact, it had a weird, milky, creamy broth that made me feel uncomfortable about finishing it. So I did not. When I ordered the fish tacos, I was expecting a nice piece of fresh fish, plenty of spicy pico, and an aoli to round out the whole thing. The breading for the fish is a tempura breading (bad call), and the fish they use is tilapia (an even worse call). I understand that this is not San Diego, but these two pieces of fish were practically begging me to put them out of their misery so I could send them packing for the Golden State at a later time. I duly complied. As I walked out I continued to wonder. Will this city ever get it right with a cuisine I hold close to my heart? Because right now, the future is looking bleak. At least my food was spared from further torture.
