We had such an amazing experience at Le Tête d'Or by Daniel. The entire meal felt like a journey through so many different flavors and dishes. One of my favorite standouts was this incredible twisted bread that you dip into cheese. You really can't go wrong with bread and cheese, but this was especially memorable. The steaks were phenomenal, and honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with anything you order here. We absolutely loved sitting in the lounge. It had such a great atmosphere and made the experience feel even more special. The service was excellent from beginning to end. It was also such a sweet touch that they wished us a happy anniversary. Those little details really make an experience feel special. Le Tête d'Or was recommended to us by a friend, and I'm so glad we decided to go. Crab Cake: Pretty solid overall, although it was a bit on the dry side. Still enjoyable. Bone Marrow: Very rich and flavorful, but I felt like there was a little too much going on with the toppings. Would've preferred a bit more balance. Prime Rib: You can't come here without trying the prime rib since it's what they're known for! Celebrated a friend's birthday with dinner here during the week as a group of 4. Reservations are hard to get, I recommend booking at least 1 month in advance. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, elegant without being stuffy, with plenty of tables and booths. The service was beyond attentive, they constantly refilled our water glasses and checked in at least 5 times throughout the meal. The birthday girl has Celiacs and they were extremely accommodating, pointing out what she could and could not have (fun fact, their gluten free bread has traces of gluten in it so it is not for people with Celiacs and having tried it, probably better off skipping it no offense). Everything we ordered was gluten free except for the crab cake and popovers. They brought bread and butter to the table to start, the bread was good, but not great. We ordered the bone marrow (gluten free) and crab cake as starters. Both were very good and I don't particularly care for bone marrow. The pastrami and sauerkraut went extremely well with the dish. For the main course we ordered the cote de boeuf (34oz with a bone, about 8 pieces of meat after being cut), the dover sole (de-boned table side, about 4 long 2 inch strips after being prepared) and the BBQ chicken. We added on 3 popovers (not gluten free, $9 each) and the haricoverts almondine, spicy broccolini and potatoes au gratin as sides. We opted for the bearnaise and bordelaise as our two complimentary sauces. We finished everything except one bite of the potatoes au gratin (delicious with a nice crunchy top but extremely creamy and heavy) and were quite full. I thought the beef was very good (not the best I have had, but given that this is a steakhouse you will not be disappointed) and I loved the popovers. The beef was recommended medium rare and was pretty close to rare. It went really well with both sauces (we mixed both together to try as well), but I preferred the bordelaise. The haricoverts were quite good and while I enjoyed the broccolini I felt it was lacking in flavor. The dover sole was very tasty (and not bones to be found), but I think it could benefit from more sauce as the fish without the sauce on it was a bit boring. The chicken was good with the sauce it came with (it absolutely needs the sauce), but the chicken had a chewy texture I was not crazy about. They brought out free vanilla soft serve for our friends birthday and it was very good. She also enjoyed the dirty martinis so I would venture to say the drinks here are probably good. Overall a really nice meal (was a little over 2hrs), but it is very expensive. I think when restaurants are pricey, you go in with higher expectations and while we enjoyed the meal, I think there are other steakhouses I prefer. read more

Came here for a birthday celebration. The restaurant dims the light later in the night, which provides a nice ambiance to the restaurant. The yellow fin tuna tartare contains a touch of onion, tomato and lime--all pair well with the fish. I got a medium rib eye steak. It was perfectly cooked and went well with the bordelaise sauce and mashed potatoes. Highly recommend. The only criticism I have is our food came out very slow. Amazing service and food. The restaurant is stunning. We did arrive very late at the end of their lunch service, but we did not feel rushed at all. My girlfriend wasn't feeling too well, so she did not touch her entree, and although there was nothing wrong with it, they graciously took it off of the bill. Completely unnecessary as they did nothing wrong to warrant a comp, but it truly showed that hospitality comes first in this establishment. The truffle ravioli was amazing. Perfectly balanced with a sauce that made your mouth water. A spoon would have been nice to get all of that good stuff, but I worked with what I had lol. The Caesar salad was kind of a lack-luster experience. Slightly browned romaine, nothing proprietary about the dressing or presentation. Very "meh". We both had a filet, cooked perfectly, over the softest and creamiest mashed potatoes you'll ever have, paired with a delicious au poivre sauce that had so much depth to it. Came here with my boyfriend for our 6-year anniversary. The ambiance was super nice - we got a lounge seat by the bar and were still able to order the full menu. Started with the steak tartare, which was great (I think there was some horseradish in it, which I liked). Textually perfect large, meaty shrimp with a sprinkle of flakey salt and remoulade... memorable. Love the crab cake that was layered between two thin, crunchy buttered medallions. The French are so darned good at hospitality. Daniel Boulud is a master at his craft and La Tete d'Or is not his first rodeo. The restaurant interior is an architectural work of art. The fine details are amazing. You have to look around and appreciate every inch of the decor because someone spent a lot of time designing it. Every inch of it. And once you're done with interior you can move on to a variety of hand crafted cocktails which sets the mood for the food. Extraordinary is the word that comes to my mind. Every year for my boyfriend's birthday, I take him to a steakhouse, and this year I chose La Tete d'Or. I was a little nervous about this place since it's not an institution like some other steakhouses in the city. However, I was very impressed with every aspect of our meal! The inside of the restaurant was spacious and beautifully decorated, and the dim lighting created a nice ambiance. We got the prime rib, steak frites, and gruyere potato gratin to share. I was afraid that it wouldn't be enough food without a starter, but we were honestly so stuffed that we ended up taking everything to go at the end. I'm not a big steak person, but the prime rib was delicious! My main focus was the sides though, which is why I was glad that the prime rib came with creamy spinach, mashed potatoes, and the popover. I also had a great experience at Boulud Sud, which is now closed. However, the more classical French restaurants continue to disappoint. I previously had a salade Lyonnaise at Bar Boulud. It was not very good - no lardons. I am not sure what it was that was substituted. Not close in quality that is routinely available in France. Similarly, the madeleines were horrible. However, for the most part, the food is fairly good. The prix-fixe lunch is fairly priced. The chicken paillard was very well prepared. The meat cart was not available and the steak was not all that tender. In short, this Boulud restaurant is a pleasant place for a meal, but the food is only fair. read more

I had a fantastic lunch with my wife at La Tête d'Or, Chef Daniel Boulud's newest spot overlooking Madison Square Park. The space is absolutely gorgeous: vertical lighting fixtures hanging from soaring ceilings inspired by the Art Deco style of the building's original architecture, deep blue banquettes, warm woods and copper hues, and a stunning decorative art hood with a sculptural effect above the open kitchen (a real showpiece). The effect is just breathtaking without feeling formal. The $55 prix fixe 2-course lunch is a great value for the quality. However, I would certainly recommend also a cocktail or 2 to go along a plate of oysters. We ordered the West Coast Kusshi oysters: small but unbelievably plump and sweet, with that clean, briny snap Kusshis are known for. Our cocktails were excellent: * Minuit Manhattan -- rich and layered, with the Macallan and Barolo Chinato giving it this deep, wintery warmth. * Gold Digger -- bright, floral, and bubbly, the kind of cocktail that instantly puts you in a good mood. For starters, my Lobster Bisque was outstanding -- silky-smooth and flavorful; the potato, celery, and tarragon gave it an earthy, aromatic backbone instead of relying on just cream. My wife's Shrimp Cocktail featured beautifully chilled, perfectly snappy large shrimp with both French and American cocktail sauces -- a subtle but fun nod to the restaurant's transatlantic identity. For mains, the Grilled Atlantic Flounder was a highlight: delicate, moist flakes under a layer of crisp buttered breadcrumbs, all brought together by a bright, buttery beurre blanc. The peppery watercress on the side cut through the richness perfectly. My wife's Faroe Islands Salmon had a moist, buttery center with a lightly crisped exterior cooked flawlessly on the wood grill. A wonderful new steakhouse by Daniel Boulud! We came for lunch and there is a great lunch prix fixe option, $55 for two courses + side or $75 if you want the dessert. It's actually a great deal for such a nice upscale restaurant. The rolling cart roast selection of the week this week was a Manhattan cut roast, cooked perfectly and we also tried the prime rib sandwich which is served open face with the melted cheese over it. Both were delicious, I would love to come back and try the lobster roll and a few other menu options. I almost never find myself in this neighborhood so its definitely out of the way and hard to work into the rotation for any evening events though, that's the only problem. Incredible experience. I've been wanting to come here for a while so I'm glad I was finally able to. The one gripe I had with them is that it was difficult to get a table for 4 at 8:30 so we opted for a 9:30 table but when we got there the restaurant was only half full anddd our table wasn't ready for another 30 mins... Here's the stuff we got At the bar I got the big apple, not bad. Ingredients were super fresh Seafood tower for 2- wow excellent. They peeled the shrimp all the way down to the nubby tail part so you can enjoy the entire thing. I also finally found where they finally have all the good oysters haha these were top pick for sure. Steak tartare- light, flavorful, a beautiful fine dice but not too fine, you can still enjoy the texture of the filet Tuna tartare- I loved how it was salted and flavorful without being wet. You could enjoy the texture of the fish, it was incredible. Caesar salad- made table side, the freshest most homemade Caesar I've ever had. Anchovies on the side and it gave a perfect pop of salt Cote de beuf- delicious and excellent quality meat. We asked for medium rare plus but it still looked pretty rare if you asked me. Dover sole- carved table side, was soooo good and I loved how the fish had actual body to it. You could grab some with your fork without it falling all over the place, I really appreciated that. Potato au gratin- this was a non negotiable for me. I told the table we are getting this no matter what because not many places make a good potato au gratin and I knew Daniel would be an exception and I was right!!!!! Perfectly salted, flavorful, and sinful like any potato au gratin should be. Creamy spinach- not as heavy as you'd think. The whole thing was green so it was kind of like Peter Luger style creamed spinach if you know what that's like. An excellent addition to the table. Brussel sprouts- didn't get to try but looked amazing! I got their Chianti for dinner and it was as smooth as ever. Definitely recommend with a delicious steak For dessert we got the berry and vanilla swirl Sunday and the pecan joconde. The cake was delicate and not too sweet but still satisfying. I recommend that more just because I'm inherently not an ice cream girly. Service was excellent. My daughter & wife surprised me for my Birthday dinner. The room is oppupant and beautiful with high ceilings, tables and bankets. The service is very formal, but friendly and efficient. The menu is meat & seafood driven. The cocktail list is extensive as is the wine list. This is a pricey restaurant, but the quality is evident. We ordered a zinfandel from a small producer that was excellent and the dirty martini and cocktail ordered my wife & daughter enjoyed. We did not order salads or appetisers and I had the wagu prime rib carved tableside which came with potato purbe, creamed spinach, a peppered popover and a choice of sauces. I am used to ordering a 16oz piece of beef, but the 10oz wagu had almost no fat and was quite rich so it was very satisfying. The sides were delicious. My wife and daughter shared dover sole and filet mignon both were terrific. They chose potato gratin and brocolini with a peppered popover. Cappuccino all around and I ordered the peacan maple mousiline cake which was light not overly sweet and delicious. A great meal. read more

They had some cleaning the table, the had a tableside Caesar Salad, someone that started our cocktail and bread then our main waiter. They even remembered to bring a birthday candle for dessert which I didn't have to remind them. The food was spectacular. I thought with French it would be tiny portions but they were pretty large. What an experience. Truly! I feel like I got very lucky getting a day of reservation here. First of all - lovely location. The entry hall is stunning and the host stand was extremely welcoming. They led us to the bar to meet our first guest and promptly transferred her drink to the dining room. We had a table for 3 and they were able to get us a combo half booth table which I feel is so hard for restaurants to do for some reason! Our server- whose name I sadly did not catch - was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We started with the table side Caesar salad which he skillfully avoided laughing at me while I captured "content". For our mains we had one do the prime rib (had to see the trolley), one with a wagyu option & a NY strip. The potato sides were both heavenly. Also the sauces and butters HELLO obviously a French restaurant would do this right. We (me) wanted to save room for the dessert so we had them box up our items which they take to the hostess area for you to grab on your way out via a coat check ticket. We had a snafu with one of our bags going missing and they offered to either re-make or refund the dish. Not necessarily needed but this shows the service level. Well! Another fabulous meal at one of Daniel's restaurants! Service was perfection: Michael was fluid! efficient! delightful!!! Busers were quick and spot on! Wedge was seasoned and dressed perfectly! Onion soup was fabulous. Great flavor The only ding was the cheese was a touch burnt on top. Steak frites! Great! Perfectly cooked to my friend's delight! Frites were crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside! Crab cake was wonderful! big portion! Sides of mushroom and onion were a must to have! Drinks were made well! corpse reviver #2! Delicious and the end star was the chocolate cake for two (or one if it's been a bad week ! Layers of chocolate cake and mousse and ganache! Perfection! Only glitch is they do not have loose leaf tea for us tea snobs and their purveyor is not great! At these high end restaurants they should invest in good quality tea! You do for your coffee drinkers and it was disappointing but it is a first world problem for sure! The room is also very elegant, great music...more relaxed vibe than his other spaces!!! We had a nice evening here and wanted to share a few highlights. When we arrived, we waited in the bar area, which was really comfortable and had a great atmosphere. Mayra took care of us while we were there, she was friendly and made us feel welcome right away. Once we were seated, we had a great table, and things continued on a good note. Heather, the sommelier, came by and was lovely, very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Her wine suggestions really added to the meal. The food was definitely a strong point. We started with the black truffle pasta, which was rich and full of flavor, definitely a standout. The rib eye was cooked just right, and the sides (asparagus with sabayon and creamed spinach) were both really tasty. The only part that felt a little off was our main server. He didn't introduce himself or really interact with us beyond taking the order. Nothing major, but in a place with such warm and welcoming staff, it stood out a bit. Being locals, we've been to a lot of spots around the city, and while this meal had some lovely moments, it didn't quite leave a lasting impression. Still, it was a solid night out. read more
