pork belly chili garlic

Service was lovely, the place can def get packed but still felt roomy enough to sit. Can get a little loud sometimes. We got the happy hour oysters which we loved, especially the little shallot crisps. The chili garlic pork belly was nice and crispy, goooood amount of spice level. The prawn karee was the star, such good flavor and fresh prawns. We also got the signature coconut crab curry which had a nice coconut flavor, felt like it was lacking a bit in the crab flavor and meat. Overall thought it was yummy but felt slightly overhyped.

All these dishes went great with rice and were very tasty! Just thought overall it was a bit overpriced. They were very gracious with letting us move back reservation times and were fast with service

The food at Fish Cheeks does not miss!! Everything is super flavorful and memorable. My favorites are the coconut crab curry and the pork cheeks. The curry is rich and so good, and the pork cheeks are insanely tender. I'd skip the corn salad, which is good but in my opinion not as special compared to their other apps like the wings. Service is always great, and they have a gluten-free menu if you ask, which is really helpful. The space is nice too, and they have a second floor now. Definitely a spot I want to go back to again!

Wow wow wow was this place fantastic. Highly recommended by a friend and a quick 15 minute train ride from our hotel in midtown. The way to go here is family style so you can order a bunch of dishes. The restaurant is a welcoming space of high energy and delicious Thai aromas. We were taken by our friendly host to our table on the second floor where our attentive server explained the menu. Get everything. But seriously, we enjoyed the fried chicken wings, pork cheeks, crab fried rice, coconut crab curry, steamed fish, and tofu.everything was so flavorful and delicious. We're already talking about going back before we leave.

Worth the wait Didn't have a reservation and we were seated within 30 minutes at the bar The ambience is floral and cute with plenty of tables and a nice bar for seating as well The service was great, and our glasses were always full (we go the spicy items so it was much appreciated) Food. Absolutely outstanding. Worth the hype. Best thing we had were the scallops - the curry paste was savory and elevated this dish. ITS A MUST ORDER The mussels were grilled and served on a chopstick with a delicious curry glaze on top. Unique way of eating them and it was a great way to start the meal. Next favorite was the coconut crab curry (scallop, curry paste edges it out) We also love the shrimp special- entire shrimps coated in a sweet spicy sauce, and you could eat both the head and the tail. It was a fantastic meal and would recommend! Definitely going back and trying their duck/ fish items

Fish Cheeks has been on my restaurant list for a while so very excited to have finally tried it. The restaurant itself is super cute. There's really nice decor throughout and a lot of seating options on both sides. I love the little fish scale details as well. Me and my friend both enjoyed our cocktails, and I believe mine was called tongue and cheek. We started with the zabb wings which came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. The dry rub is delicious. We also had the corn salad which was a good side and some oysters of course. For the main course we shared the steamed fish and fried pork belly. Both were big portions and enough to share. The steamed branzino came literally steaming to the table and it was really good. The friend pork belly might've been my favorite and had a nice spicy kick to it with that crunch that I love for pork belly. Overall, will come back for sure.

Expensive but VERY good, my favorite was the crab coconut curry. The steamed fish is a classic, sooo tender. The inside feels very elevated and elegant, with beautiful, large windows. The staff are very kind, and the food arrived very quickly.

Came in and got a seat at the bar right away on a busy Thursday night. I came here with one mission -- to eat the coconut crab curry. Mission accomplished. This meal was so flavorful and good, I will definitely be back for it.

Fish Cheeks was on my list of to try spots in NYC, and it didn't disappoint! My favorite dish was the whole steamed branzino with herbs - if you love sour food this is for you. The broth is soo yummy and I loved how the fish was deboned already! The coconut crab curry and crispy rice salad were both delicious and definitely on the spicier side!! Service was super sweet.

We came here unexpectedly with friends. They booked an extremely last minute reservation just 15 mins before arriving, found on Beli. They just told us we had to leave the table by a certain time for the next reservation, and it was at least 1.5 hours time, completely fine with us. I love when restaurant hosts give us that option. The place was packed, so glad we made it in. Very pleasantly surprised how good the food was! We got drinks to start, which were particular good and strong. Favorites were the Punch Drunk Love, Panang Negroni, and the Ya Dong Party Shot. The shot was good, came with this pandan chaser, mango bites, and totally worth it in my opinion for $10. For the record, they have daily happy hour from 12-5pm which we unfortunately missed. Dishes shared were the: Crab fried rice - this was incredible. The rice was nice and greasy, full of crab flavor and had this side fish sauce with chilis. I would highly recommend you spooning that sauce all over the rice to enhance the flavor. Steamed fish with Thai Herbs - wow! Huge wow!!!! The favorite dish of the night. The steamed branzino was good perfectly, very soft. It went wonderfully with the Thai herbs - chili, lime and cilantro- I could put that sauce over everything. I was eating it by itself with rice, no shame there. The fish was also served over heat, so it kept warm the entire time we ate it. Prawn Karee - tiger prawn with curry powder - delicious! This was another great dish with the sauce that was truly irresistible. It was very pungent and slightly spicy, lots of fish sauce in a good way. I kept eating it by itself. Coconut Crab curry - pretty good, probably my least favorite but just because everything else was so stellar. This dish is quite spicy though, probably like an 8/10 with a late heat. Really good though. Overall the service was great too. Food came out quickly, and hot. My only sadness is that this restaurant is so far away from me. Loved it so much, would highly rec for someone wanting casual Thai food and or cocktails! All the flavors were very delicious.

I made a reservation 1 month in advance because this spot is pretty popular and for good reason. I'm typically not big on Thai cuisine but dang did this slap. We ordered the crab fried rice and duck curry. Crab fried rice: 5/5 amazing, I have no notes on this. They use quality fresh crab meat, and it's paired with fish sauce and a cilantro sauce. I mixed in some of the duck curry with the rice which was phenomenal. Duck curry: 4.5/5, also delicious. The duck was tender and melted in my mouth. It sits in a wonderful curry that tastes balanced. Not spicy, not too coconut-y. Just right.

Fish Cheeks is such a vibe. Elevated casual dining that feels perfect for a long lunch or happy hour moment Service was about 7.5/10. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday afternoon so the waitstaff wasn't overly attentive, but they always made sure we were good which I appreciated. I kicked things off with the Tongue & Cheek cocktail. I swapped the vodka for gin and it was chefs kiss. Super refreshing with a touch of sweetness. For my second round, I asked to take the black sesame out so I could really enjoy every sip, and honestly? Even better We started off with the half dozen Market Oysters, and let me just say I'm usually not an oyster girl. But these? Super fresh, clean, and the texture was perfect. I tried one.. then somehow ended up having a few more. *Not pictured :/ Next up was the Squid Ink Calamari, my first time having calamari that wasn't fried, and they nailed it! Still packed with flavor, tender and honestly refreshing compared to the fried version We also ordered the Zabb wings. My friend hyped them up so much that I might've set my expectations too high. They didn't fully meet the hype, but still solid fried chicken overall. Now the let's talk about the star of the show: Crab Fried Rice. 100/10. No notes. Easily my favorite dish on the menu and something I'll be coming back for alone. The Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs was simple, fragrant, and just straight up yummy. Comforting in the best way To wrap it up, we shared the Panna Sticky Rice Ice Cream, my first time trying and I lovedddd it! Such a perfect sweet ending to lunch Overall, Fish Cheeks absolutely delivers on flavor and atmosphere. A great spot for sharing dishes, trying something new, and wanting to come back for more!

Wow I thought I had truly tried top tier Thai food in the city, but...Fish Cheeks you are the exception and a Thai restaurant I would cosign for. Passing by, before seeing the namesake, I thought this was an Aussie restaurant given the lighting. The aesthetic / decor / people / food-everything is just thoughtful to the tee. We ordered: Mama Tom Yum Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs I appreciate that the menu is majority seafood and a nice variety of veggies / meat. Would not recommend playing it safe and simply ordering crab fried rice / curry because you can always order that elsewhere. Only gripes are that given the price points, (i) why doesn't the steamed fish come with a side of rice? (ii) there should be serving utensils accompanied with the dishes since the vibe is family style, or that option should at least be offered Nonetheless, make that reservation and the happy hour time range / pricing is exceptional to others that make it two hours and offer little to no range.

Ask the Community - Fish Cheeks

How long should I plan for dinner?

1.5 hours max... not really a lingering type of place. It will take that long to get a drink & your food

Is it realistic to eat outside in their dinning shed in January?

Greetings! Our outdoor seating is heated and covered, and we are able to provide blankets as needed. However, it all depends on the weather and temperature outdoors. Most days are quite comfortable in the outdoor booths.

What is the happy hour here?

12pm-3:30pm & 5pm-6pm

Is the bar on a first come basis or reservations required?

Greetings. Bar seating is first come. However, if you are interested in bar seating as a reservation, you can include it in your notes and we will do our best to accommodate that request.

Hi, I have an amex gift card that's loaded onto my phone. Would it be possible to pay with tap to pay? (Apple/Android Pay?)

We do have tap to pay for in person transactions.

Is anything on your menu gluten free?

Hello. At the moment there are only a few items that have gluten and cannot be modified, however most of our menu is GF. Thank you for your inquiry!

Are there heaters/heat lamps for the outdoor seating? Have an outdoor reservation for tomorrow.

Looking forward to having you join us. Any outdoor reservation spot available on RESY.com is for a heated booth, however we do keep sidewalk seating available for walk ins if outdoor is desired.

Do I need to show my vaccination card if I take a outdoor seating?

No, you only need your vaccination card for indoor dining

Can you provide us with the summer 2021 NYC Restaurant Week menu? Understand it's for Tahoe our only. I do not see it in Instagram or anywhere else. Thank you?

We are currently working on a pdf of the menu to post. Until then, please take a look at any delivery/take out platform we are on, and look for the Restaurant Week menu there. We are currently live Monday to Friday.

Is the lunch menu the same as the dinner menu?

Yes, at the moment the menu is the same for both lunch and dinner.

Is the outdoor seating covered?

When we were there over the winter, there was covered seating against the facade plus also a covered structure along the sidewalk.

Is it super busy on Saturday evenings? Should I/do I need to make a reservation?

First time i went was on a Saturday. It was packed. Reservations were made upon arrival.

Why are reservations only possible on the weekends and not the weekdays on Resy?

That's not true. It's for everyday of the week

Sit down dining? Can we call to make a reservation?

They don't take reservations by phone but keep an eye out about two weeks out for them. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Outdoor dining has heaters and indoor dining is at 25% capacity with dividers between diners. All in all, felt safe eating… Read more

Do they have alot of vegetarian options?

Yes, I recall they had a Vegetable Green curry that is made with eggplants and cauliflower.

What kind of crab do they use?

Definitely blue crab.

Is there long wait time without rsvp?

Yes the wait time can be significant. The restaurant is fairly small so tables get taken fast. The food is delicious and well worth the wait if you have time. But i highly highly recommend making a reservation.

Do they have high chair?

I have never encountered babies or children under 2 in my 3 visits. Maybe because some things to eat are slightly spicy

Can i only order side dishes for to go?

Yes you can

I ordered through Seamless and picked it up since I was in the area, and I'm so glad I did. The sauce was incredibly flavorful with a little spicy, tangy, and creamy balance. The bun was soft, the mushroom was full of flavor, and everything just worked together perfectly. I was actually speechless after the first bite. It was satisfying without feeling heavy, but still substantial. The pickle added the perfect bite and brightness. I got the side salad instead of fries. My fiancé got a beer and his friend got the Ethiopian coffee. It was a tasty espresso served with oat milk and sugar on the side. The BEC was recommended by the waiter and it was delicious! The egg was fluffy, the cheese was great, there was plenty of sauce, the toast was perfect. I wish for more potatoes! The scramble was good. The injera is an interesting flavor! It was great as a stir fry. It's a little sour and chewy by itself. The cucumber salad was fresh and great. I'm not a vegan myself, but it's a delicious option for vegans and non-vegans alike.

The steak is chewy and meaty so if you are not a fan of faux meat then i would proceed with caution. I enjoy the cheeses here as they are unique and different from each other. The sandwich overall was okay though not my favorite sandwich ever. - smoked Mac and cheese (7/10): macaroni with smoked goat cheese, cheddar, mozzarella baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with vegan pancetta and breadcrumbs. This was a cozy appetizer especially on a cold day. The flavors of the cheese are rich and smoky with a hint of saltiness from the pancetta and breadcrumbs. I would have liked it to be a larger portion and offered as an entree. WOULD I GO BACK? Maybe. I liked the ambiance and the option to try dishes that are usually meat heavy but the cuisine is not my personal favorite.

The arancini were ping pong sized rice balls, chewy and lacking much of a punch, though the "bleu cheese" dipping sauce was pleasantly tangy. The fried artichokes fared better: at once crispy and tender in a tempura batter with a mustardy "aioli" and charred lemon. I did a southern seitan sandwich with sweet potato fries: fried seitan slabs + chipotle sauce + lettuce + avocado + caramelized onions. The seitan was under-seasoned, but the chipotle added some much needed zing.
