Fried Fish with garden herbs, crab fried rice and butterfly pea flower limeade
    Celeste B.

I learned about this restaurant when I attended the Complex food fest. They have some of the most delicious Thai food options. My favorite dish is their crab fried rice - it's amazing! The staff were friendly and the restaurant decor was nice. The food is pricy compared to other Thai restaurants but it's definitely worth it.

I was traveling solo for work, and heard about this place. Amazing traveling alone, walked up and got a seat at the bar right away. Cute decor and totally approachable space. The bartenders were friendly and the service was great. I ordered a drink and the fish dish. It was delicious, kind of too much food for one person but super tasty, slightly sour and spicy.

Date: Thursday, March 5th, 2026 Time: around 4:30pm Party of: 3 Meal: Happy Hour - everyday 12pm to 5pm *HH Dozen ($22) *HH Nam Gin Martini ($14) x2 *HH Spicy Mango ($14) *HH Cremant de Bourgogne, Burgundy ($12) x3 *HH 'Muscadet' Domaine de la Geraudrie, Loire ($12) *Corn Salad ($15) *Rice Salad ($18) *Wings ($18) *Pacific Baby Prawns ($18) *Chp chili ($1.50) *Tax ($16.18) We were meeting up a girlfriend and I think she suggested Fish Cheeks. She got here first and grabbed a table for the three of us. The HH isn't bad. The cocktails were a little weak for me - very sweet and juicy, so I switched to bubbles afterwards. Food wise, I was pescatarian at the time, so only tried a few items. The oysters were standard, tho I find it weird they charge you for hot sauce. I'm guessing that was the $1.50 charge listed above since they gave us peppers instead. The prawns were crispy and had good flavor. Service was fine. Our server was attentive and friendly. It was earlier on a weekday and rainy, so the vibe was very chill. The space is very colorful as well. Going to the restroom is like playing roulette. There is one on each side (or maybe two) so it's a gamble as to which one you think will free up first since they are on opposite sides of the resto. Fun spot for HH. REVIEW #4019

Omg this place was fantastic. I tried this place at my friend's suggestion and I would absolutely come back here again. We came here as a walk-in and were able to get seated with a limitation of our dining. The service was quick though the bathroom situation wasn't the best. They only had two bathrooms for bigger place. The food was great. We got the coconut crab curry, crab fried rice, calamari and duck curry. My favorite was the coconut crab curry, which is what their known for cause it's so good but also spicy. I would absolutely come back here again!

Fish Cheeks, I miss you! Truly enjoyed my time at Fish Cheeks-especially on a super rainy day! We made reservations early bc they get packed fast! Because it was a rainy day in SoHo we asked if they could seat us earlier and they made it happen!! Lovee the vibe, the bright colors, traditional yet modern decor, and the extremely friendly staff! 5 stars to the chef because every dish satisfied every flavor profile, perfect balance of heat, sweetness, saltiness, and acidty- so much flavor!! I drank all the sauce with the Branzino! I will definitely come back with a group to enjoy the seafood tower during happy hour!

Service was lovely, the place can def get packed but still felt roomy enough to sit. Can get a little loud sometimes. We got the happy hour oysters which we loved, especially the little shallot crisps. The chili garlic pork belly was nice and crispy, goooood amount of spice level. The prawn karee was the star, such good flavor and fresh prawns. We also got the signature coconut crab curry which had a nice coconut flavor, felt like it was lacking a bit in the crab flavor and meat. Overall thought it was yummy but felt slightly overhyped.

Went here for my birthday and I honestly can't wait to go back. I was greeted right away and sat at the bar, which ended up being a great experience. I tried a lychee martini (I'm usually an espresso martini girl), and it was made perfectly. The seafood tower is a must--fresh and delicious. But the highlight for me was the sticky rice with whiting I love the sauce it was paired with absolutely amazing. My spouse got to try the raw marinated crab .Everything was flavorful and well done. Definitely recommend this spot.

The food at Fish Cheeks does not miss!! Everything is super flavorful and memorable. My favorites are the coconut crab curry and the pork cheeks. The curry is rich and so good, and the pork cheeks are insanely tender. I'd skip the corn salad, which is good but in my opinion not as special compared to their other apps like the wings. Service is always great, and they have a gluten-free menu if you ask, which is really helpful. The space is nice too, and they have a second floor now. Definitely a spot I want to go back to again!

Wow wow wow was this place fantastic. Highly recommended by a friend and a quick 15 minute train ride from our hotel in midtown. The way to go here is family style so you can order a bunch of dishes. The restaurant is a welcoming space of high energy and delicious Thai aromas. We were taken by our friendly host to our table on the second floor where our attentive server explained the menu. Get everything. But seriously, we enjoyed the fried chicken wings, pork cheeks, crab fried rice, coconut crab curry, steamed fish, and tofu.everything was so flavorful and delicious. We're already talking about going back before we leave.

Worth the wait Didn't have a reservation and we were seated within 30 minutes at the bar The ambience is floral and cute with plenty of tables and a nice bar for seating as well The service was great, and our glasses were always full (we go the spicy items so it was much appreciated) Food. Absolutely outstanding. Worth the hype. Best thing we had were the scallops - the curry paste was savory and elevated this dish. ITS A MUST ORDER The mussels were grilled and served on a chopstick with a delicious curry glaze on top. Unique way of eating them and it was a great way to start the meal. Next favorite was the coconut crab curry (scallop, curry paste edges it out) We also love the shrimp special- entire shrimps coated in a sweet spicy sauce, and you could eat both the head and the tail. It was a fantastic meal and would recommend! Definitely going back and trying their duck/ fish items

Fish Cheeks has been on my restaurant list for a while so very excited to have finally tried it. The restaurant itself is super cute. There's really nice decor throughout and a lot of seating options on both sides. I love the little fish scale details as well. Me and my friend both enjoyed our cocktails, and I believe mine was called tongue and cheek. We started with the zabb wings which came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. The dry rub is delicious. We also had the corn salad which was a good side and some oysters of course. For the main course we shared the steamed fish and fried pork belly. Both were big portions and enough to share. The steamed branzino came literally steaming to the table and it was really good. The friend pork belly might've been my favorite and had a nice spicy kick to it with that crunch that I love for pork belly. Overall, will come back for sure.

Expensive but VERY good, my favorite was the crab coconut curry. The steamed fish is a classic, sooo tender. The inside feels very elevated and elegant, with beautiful, large windows. The staff are very kind, and the food arrived very quickly.

Fish Cheeks was on my list of to try spots in NYC, and it didn't disappoint! My favorite dish was the whole steamed branzino with herbs - if you love sour food this is for you. The broth is soo yummy and I loved how the fish was deboned already! The coconut crab curry and crispy rice salad were both delicious and definitely on the spicier side!! Service was super sweet.

Ask the Community - Fish Cheeks

How long should I plan for dinner?

1.5 hours max... not really a lingering type of place. It will take that long to get a drink & your food

Is it realistic to eat outside in their dinning shed in January?

Greetings! Our outdoor seating is heated and covered, and we are able to provide blankets as needed. However, it all depends on the weather and temperature outdoors. Most days are quite comfortable in the outdoor booths.

What is the happy hour here?

    12pm-3:30pm & 5pm-6pm

Is the bar on a first come basis or reservations required?

Greetings. Bar seating is first come. However, if you are interested in bar seating as a reservation, you can include it in your notes and we will do our best to accommodate that request.

Hi, I have an amex gift card that's loaded onto my phone. Would it be possible to pay with tap to pay? (Apple/Android Pay?)

We do have tap to pay for in person transactions.

Is anything on your menu gluten free?

Hello. At the moment there are only a few items that have gluten and cannot be modified, however most of our menu is GF. Thank you for your inquiry!

Are there heaters/heat lamps for the outdoor seating? Have an outdoor reservation for tomorrow.

Looking forward to having you join us. Any outdoor reservation spot available on RESY.com is for a heated booth, however we do keep sidewalk seating available for walk ins if outdoor is desired.

Do I need to show my vaccination card if I take a outdoor seating?

No, you only need your vaccination card for indoor dining

Can you provide us with the summer 2021 NYC Restaurant Week menu? Understand it's for Tahoe our only. I do not see it in Instagram or anywhere else. Thank you?

We are currently working on a pdf of the menu to post. Until then, please take a look at any delivery/take out platform we are on, and look for the Restaurant Week menu there. We are currently live Monday to Friday.

Is the lunch menu the same as the dinner menu?

Yes, at the moment the menu is the same for both lunch and dinner.

    Is the outdoor seating covered?

When we were there over the winter, there was covered seating against the facade plus also a covered structure along the sidewalk.

Is it super busy on Saturday evenings? Should I/do I need to make a reservation?

First time i went was on a Saturday. It was packed. Reservations were made upon arrival.

Why are reservations only possible on the weekends and not the weekdays on Resy?

That's not true. It's for everyday of the week

Sit down dining? Can we call to make a reservation?

They don't take reservations by phone but keep an eye out about two weeks out for them. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Outdoor dining has heaters and indoor dining is at 25% capacity with dividers between diners. All in all, felt safe eating… Read more

Do they have alot of vegetarian options?

Yes, I recall they had a Vegetable Green curry that is made with eggplants and cauliflower.

What kind of crab do they use?

    Definitely blue crab.

Is there long wait time without rsvp?

Yes the wait time can be significant. The restaurant is fairly small so tables get taken fast. The food is delicious and well worth the wait if you have time. But i highly highly recommend making a reservation.

    Do they have high chair?

I have never encountered babies or children under 2 in my 3 visits. Maybe because some things to eat are slightly spicy

Can i only order side dishes for to go?

    Yes you can

The steak is chewy and meaty so if you are not a fan of faux meat then i would proceed with caution. I enjoy the cheeses here as they are unique and different from each other. This was a cozy appetizer especially on a cold day. The flavors of the cheese are rich and smoky with a hint of saltiness from the pancetta and breadcrumbs. I would have liked it to be a larger portion and offered as an entree. WOULD I GO BACK? Maybe. I liked the ambiance and the option to try dishes that are usually meat heavy but the cuisine is not my personal favorite.

The arancini were ping pong sized rice balls, chewy and lacking much of a punch, though the "bleu cheese" dipping sauce was pleasantly tangy. The fried artichokes fared better: at once crispy and tender in a tempura batter with a mustardy "aioli" and charred lemon. I did a southern seitan sandwich with sweet potato fries: fried seitan slabs + chipotle sauce + lettuce + avocado + caramelized onions. The seitan was under-seasoned, but the chipotle added some much needed zing. My girlfriend's plate of seitan marsala (seitan + sundried tomatoes + broccoli rabe + mashed potatoes + marsala sauce) was a better dish, if heavier than expected.

And that's really one of the best things about this location of Le Botaniste (there around 7 locations in the city) - being right across from Bryant Park, you can enjoy a healthy lunch while enjoying the park! So what is Le Botaniste? It's an organic, plant-based, and carbon-neutral cafe with locations in NYC and a couple in Europe. So everything is vegan. Everything is organic. The calories and other dietary information are listed on the menu. I had their Chef Priyanka Samosa Bowl (a seasonal offering), which includes brown rice, saag, samosa balls, crispy chickpeas, turmeric onions, tamarind and green chutneys, and yogurt raita. It is 433 calories and 12 grams of protein. I thought it was good - although I thought the samosa balls were quite dry (the chutneys, saag, and raita helped), and I liked that it was light and healthy and wouldn't slow me down for the rest of my busy day. I also grabbed a water and a quinoa peanut butter cookie that I saved in my bag for later. (I noticed that they had some wines that I would have been happy to try - if you eat in, you can have a full experience with a drink.) I showed up right at 11 when they opened, and there was only one other customer. My bowl was ready in seconds and I was out the door and across the street seated in Bryant Park within a minute or two. If you're looking for a healthy vegan lunch in the neighborhood, Le Botaniste is a good option!
