I'm impressed. I would definitely recommend this place. It is more than a regular spot. It has sections for sushi, raw bar and a place in the back to order food. The staff was top notch and the food was delicious. If I were being picky, I would suggest they add larger chunks of clams in the chowder. Like I said, picky.
I finally brought my nephew here so he could try their 2 lb. steamed lobster, and it was just as delicious as I remembered. I've been coming here for years, and the quality of the food continues to keep me coming back. During this visit, I ran into a recurring issue with my lobster. It was carrying a large amount of roe, which I was actually happy about because I enjoy it and didn't want any of it to go to waste. However, the roe deep inside wasn't fully cooked during the initial steaming process. I had to go back and forth with Ash and the kitchen staff several times, but they remained patient, attentive, and committed to making sure everything was cooked properly. Ash, one of the managers, provided excellent customer service throughout the experience. While I was waiting, he kindly offered me a complimentary cup of New England clam chowder, which was absolutely delicious and very much appreciated since I was starving. Before leaving, I also ordered two more 2 lb. steamed lobsters to go. I explained my concern, and the staff made sure they were thoroughly cooked before packaging them. Both were perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. I truly appreciate the team's dedication to customer satisfaction and their willingness to make things right. Their excellent service, combined with consistently great seafood, is why I've remained a loyal customer for years. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. Thank you!
I have nothing bad to say about this lobster roll. It's fresh and delectable. We didn't have to wait too long for our order either. The place is very busy inside Chelsea Market.
You really can't beat the raw bar at Lobster Place which is located right in the middle of Chelsea Market. There's plenty of seating, both tables and bar seating. To order, you fill out a paper sheet for the raw bar items and place a separate order in the back for kitchen fare. Every time I've been here, the seafood has been incredibly fresh and delicious. It's definitely not cheap though and our most recent meal came out to almost $500 after tip. We ordered: - 2 bread bowl NE clam chowders ($15 ea)--delicious and hearty. The peasant loaf bread was fine and everyone enjoyed it - 6oz lobster roll ($38)--a delicious cold lobster roll with a mayo-based sauce, great flavor, and a soft buttery bun - 20 oysters ($3.75 ea)--all fresh and delicious, primarily East Coast oysters although they occasionally have some West Coast ones. Fisher's Island was akin to drinking straight sea water - 5 Peruvian scallops--small and sweet with a strawberry sauce - 2 California uni ($19 ea)--one was incredibly sweet, clean tasting, and much better than the other, which was slightly more bitter and minerally - 2 diver scallops ($15 ea)--drizzled with olive oil, yuzu, and sea salt - 8 shrimp cocktail ($3.25 ea)--one of the most unworth things I've tried in recent times because the shrimp was so cold it tasted barely thawed and was watery with almost no flavor You order at the counter or via paper ticket and they bring everything to your table. Staff have always been friendly and service was great. They sell fresh fish and some frozen specialty items like escargot. I don't know if anything would ever deter me from coming back here :)
I spent the day between Hudson Yards and Chelsea in early August. For lunch we popped into Chelsea Market. There are many cuisines to select from within the market making it a perfect spot for trying a few things. The market itself is bustling and crowded with a mix of a regular lunch crowd and plenty of tourists. After walking up and down the subway like area, we decided on Lobster Place. The Lobster Place was one large area and essentially housed variety of seafood kiosks. This included sushi, sashimi, oysters, and of course lobster. You can wait on any (or all) of the lines, and then sit at any available table to eat. I was told by one of the hostesses that if we found a spot at the sushi bar area, we could place an order for any of the other food vendors and the food would directly come to us, instead of having to wait on separate lines. Luck was on our side and as we approached the sushi bar area a couple graciously waved us over to take the seats they were previously occupying. Immediately, a waiter came over to clean up the area, provide us with quenching cold NYC tap, and take our order. As promised, it all came directly to us while skipping the long lines at each kiosk. First up, fresh delicious sushi. We selected 2 spicy tuna rolls and a spider roll. They were all delicious and fresh. Next, we ordered 6 oysters, 3 salty, and 3 sweeter. The oysters while fresh were not my favorite. They didn't give mignonette sauce and weren't cold even though they were on ice. Finally our lobster came to us. It was steamed and served with warm butter. While we tried a little of everything, the highlight was definitely the sushi. It was overall a positive experience.
Loved their wide variety of fresh seafoods and even if you don't want it just plain raw they have seasonings for you. The sauce put on the scallops were to die for. As well as the oysters stand alone were super fresh and a joy to eat. Loved the selection here.
High quality fish dishes and great staff inside Chelsea Market. Rating 8/10 Pros: Quality, seating, staff, good smell. Cons: Mediocre Sangria, smallish size, price.
I really enjoyed myself. The Lobster place has been family owned and operated for years as a stand alone business but apparently it's recently opened in the Chelsea market next to cull & pistol. It's a big open fish market where you can order fresh seafood but they also cook fresh seafood! The reservation was an event I paid upfront for and was like $95 bucks. In my opinion well worth it and a steal considering we had unlimited white wine and a cold bucket of beer on arrival. It also included shrimp cocktail and raw oysters. Ya'll know I'ma oyster girlie. They were all really good. Briny, while others were a bit milder and sweet. I will say, service was impeccable. And the amount of food and beverages were amazing. I do believe the lobster boil sauce lacked a bit of flavor and the potatoes in the boil were not fully cooked so I didn't get to enjoy them the way I would have liked which is why I took off 1 star from my rating. The corn was sweet and everything else was super tasty, including the lobster. I would've just liked more flavor in the sauce and fully cooked potatoes. I'd definitely go back and give it another shot. I love the fresh seafood concept so I know I'm getting the best quality.
Only 4 stars because it's kind of disorganized with the way you order/how many areas there are to order/how many diff menus there are so it took a while to figure everything out. We did end up getting seated at the raw bar, though, which was a treat! They have 4 diff sections (raw bar counter, sushi bar counter, walk up counter w/ regular menu, fishmonger counter for fresh seafood to go) but you can order whatever no matter where you're seated. Ordered: *Double Down platter (24 oysters - 2ea of the daily options) *Rock Crab Claw + 4 Cocktail Shrimp *2 Siberian Sturgeon caviars w/ pringles, creme fraiche, and chives *a citrusy beer + a couple sake cans. Incredible prices (they own Cull & Pistol and likely supply a few other restaurants) + such fresh seafood. Incredibly well shucked oysters and fabulous presentation. All the guys behind the counter were friendly, helpful, worked so well in unison especially given how busy it was during the hour we were there. First time having Pringles with a caviar service instead of blinis but I totally get it. My opinion: the saltiness of them is way too competitive.. but, dude, it's Pringles and caviar so it's fkin delicious regardless.

We debated between a lobster roll or steamed lobster and opted for the latter. Also got a shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque soup, and a cold refreshing brewskie. Meal was heavenly and service was friendly as well. Tip: come when they open or you will be waiting in a long line. 5 stars for Lobster Place and two thumbs up! Thank you!
i love lobster place! perfect place for a quick bite. we came for the oysters and their diver scallops. so fresh and delicious! the diver scallop pair perfectly well with the yuzu, i am a huge fan of bright flavors and the diver scallop was PERFECT! also they do have a house vinaigrette for their oysters, which was phenomenal. one of my favorite places for oysters and i love the selection!
I passed by Lobster Place while in Chelsea market and could not resist good seafood . Their new England clam chowder was good but wished they could have had more clams. The lobster roll was so good and had big chunks of lobster. It was a bit pricey at $28 but about on par with Maine. Lots of bar seating. I did have to check at the pick up window multiple times since the buzzer they gave me didnt go off. If I lived in NYC, I would want to come back and try their oysters and sushi.
Solid seafood restaurant located in the Chelsea Market. With so many spots to choose from, I decided to dine here, as the place was packed. I ordered the lobster roll, with a side of their clam chowder. I was hesitant, but everything came out quick and was super fresh. They have plenty of seating and lots of beverages to choose from. It was on the pricier side, but worth it for the lobster.
Reviews are largely positive. People praise the fresh seafood quality, especially oysters and lobster rolls, along with friendly and helpful staff and a lively, clean space.

I ordered the 6oz lobster roll... definitely not as expected. The first bite was dominated by the mayo and lemon, no lobster flavor. It took three bites to finally catch a hint of it. The mayo and lemon sauce overwhelmed the meat, and I love mayo on my sandwiches! The sauce dripped with every bite, as if the lobster had been soaking in it. I wouldn't order this again. read more

We came here for the lobster rolls, tried a few things, and ended up loving the lychee Margaritas. The majority of the employees were really friendly, the others were nonchalant. Coming in, we notice the whole space smelled strange, it seemed like it was permeating from the walls. We should have just left, but we were determined to get seafood. The lobster roll was paltry, flecked with fillers and flavorless. The lobster bisque didn't fare well either, as it was a clumpy, oddly, sweet mess. The fish, shrimp and fries were cooked in old oil, resulting in a tough exterior, leaving a stale burned flavor. The fries were like potato sticks dusted in a smoky bbq rub, not old bay, with that awful lingering flavor from the oil. We saw someone with a steamed lobster, and it looked pretty good. Maybe that would have been a better choice, but for now, I'll just stick with the tasty frozen drinks. read more

I had a delivery order which I think was my first mistake. One really needs to go inside the Chelsea Market and choose food from the board or display. In any case, I chose a large sushi...another cardinal sin...rarely is delivered sushi even remotely decent, especially at this price point, though I haven't tried some of the recent more expensive take-outs. I also had the fish and shrimp with fries...the 3 medium sized fried shrimps were tasty, but the fish was definitely not and the breading was about as thick as the fish! The New England clam chowder lacked clams. The tricked-out tots was some attempt to spruce up potato tots...an A for effort...but not too good. The corn ribs were very good with a nice house dipping sauce. The salad was good with tasty feta cheese. The dessert...chocolate pot de crème...now where did that come from??...was quite tasty, and the highlight of the meal. Packing was good. Delivery was fast. My advice is to go to the Chelsea Market, get some fresh oysters and a lobster. Maybe try a few other things that look good. Delivery is just not their thing. read more
While exploring Chelsea Market, my boyfriend and I walked by Lobster Place and noticed their sign about the happy hour oysters for half priced Mon-Fri from 6pm to close. What a deal!! This was without a doubt the BEST discovery I had in New York for our entire trip. We sat down at the oyster bar since that was the primary reason for our visit, but my boyfriend did also go to their hot foods area to get a Lobster Bisque ($6.50/medium). It had a good amount of lobster bits in it. I tasted a corn essence. Super creamy. I would have liked the soup base to taste more lobstery, but overall still good. Now for the primary reason for our visit. OYSTERS!! We had just had oysters the day prior so I felt guilty and spoiled but my boyfriend convinced me I deserved it. Cute Cute! The most amazing thing about their oyster happy hour here is that you can pick ANYYYY oyster's you like, like the typical chef choice where they give you the cheapest thing they have around. We got 2 dozens of oysters (HH $1.75/oyster or $3.50/oyster). Of those we opted for 6 Glidden, 6 Standish Shore, 6 Murder Points, and 6 Indigos. You can even add caviar bumps onto these oysters so we added 2 bumps for the Indigos ($5/bump). Considering I got 2 dozens, staff gave me the same amount of accompaniments as someone who only got a few oysters. I had to ask for extra horseradish. The Indigos were small and one of the only sweet options they have. As east coast oysters tend to be more salty. They were both of our favorites. The Standish Shores were the biggest they had that were neutral in saltiness. The Glidden Points were the saltiest we tried. And the Murder Points were small and balanced on sweet and salty. All good in their own beautiful way. Very premium quality fresh delicious oysters! High recommended for all of my oyster lovers out there! read more

Found this place by accident. I was looking for restaurants and most of our food selections for our stay in NYC were mostly beef and pork so decided to search for seafood and Lobster Place came up. We took the subway from Time Square and the subway ride was not long. It was hidden because it's tucked inside the long building. It remind me of the food courts in Emeryville and San Pedro Square in San jose. They have daily happy hour on oysters from 6pm to close. The oysters were good. There was one that was very sweet and still have the good grime but I forgot the name of it. It was either Glidden Point or Saint Simon. I had the staff select 3 types for me. I ordered king crab on the side since the price wasn't bad compared to the west coast and of course my sons wanted to try them. My wife and kids each ordered the lobster roll. My youngest son wanted to try it with cavier and he said it was really good and added more flavor. I will have to try it next time we are back. My wife and my older son love their lobster roll as well. I also ordered the clam chowder and lobster bisque. The clam chowder was really good that my kids almost killed it but they left me a few scoop. They dipped the king crab into the clam chowder and said it made it even better. The lobster bisque was very milky which is expected but being lactose, I regretted later after finishing the bisque. The staff were great. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There was a sushi bar but we didn't have a chance to try during our visit. Guess it is a good excuse to go back soon to try. If you are in Manhattan area, you should definitely try this place out. When we went on a Tuesday, there weren't many people so we didn't have to wait long to get our food and able to get a seat easily to relax and enjoy our meal. It was close to the subway so the walk to and from the subway was not bad at all during the cold weather. And another note, the restroom is downstairs on the end of the building. read more

The irony of my trip to this place was that I ordered everything except the lobster! This little jam is tucked away in the Chelsea Market. I like it because it's a very casual setting. Normally when you go to any kind of a seafood place it's a bit fancier so this was definitely a different environment. The food was prepared pretty quickly, I think we waited no more than 10 minutes for our order. I thought that I would want the crab legs to be hotter, as they were served at the lowest setting of warm that I could think of to describe it accurately. But they were also very flavorful, the meat being decently, sweet as well. The shrimp were good, of course. And the lobster bisque was thick and creamy with pieces of lobster throughout. I would definitely come here again and recommend it. read more
The sushi from the sushi counter was great! So fresh and delicious. The ordering process was easy and fast. There's limited roll options (about 10 maki and maybe 6 special rolls), but the quality was surprisingly good. Prices were totally reasonable for the location and popularity of Chelsea Market. I've been coming to this location at Chelsea Market for quite some time and it is my go-to spot for their Donburi (Rice Bowls). I know this place is called 'Lobster Place' but it has three different sections that serve lobster, raw bar, sushi, etc. But I recommend trying their sushi, hand rolls, and rice bowls. Their seating is a first come, first serve so do be mindful what time you are coming specifically during lunch or dinner hours on a work day or weekend. Overall it is quite lively but not too loud so you can converse with friends or bring a casual date. The servers and chef are quite attentive and provide the best service from the minute you sit down to when you leave which is why I come back from time to time. The rice bowl I order is the Sake Ikura Don. It always come beautifully presented with plenty of nori (seaweed), perfectly sliced salmon sashimi, and plenty of salmon roe (fish eggs). Based on the picture, it looks like a small and delicate dish that would barely fill you up but it is quite filling down to the last bite. Plus you can shop for some fish and ingredients to bring the experience from over there to your home. But still do come and dine here at Chelsea Market read more

Service was great from our first server. So from 6 to close they have happy hour and the oysters are half price. There is also wine and beer discounted. I love the clear explanation of the type of oysters, size, and taste guide on the top of the bar. I love that our server was able to tell us all about her favorite oysters and why she liked each one. I really enjoyed the added caviar option. The beer selection was good for the few they offered on HH. read more
Over the years, this seafood vendor has changed quite a bit. Decades ago, they sold mostly a wide variety of seafood as a retail market, with some New England style food options in the back of the store. However, when you walk in nowadays, the center of the large room is dominated by a raw bar focused on oysters, clams, and other shellfish. Slightly towards the back is now a sushi bar serving Japanese goodies like sashimi and nigiri. If you prefer the old school New England style seafood shack stuff, you can still order much of that stuff in the back of the shop. As you walked to the ordering station in back, you will see many people working hard at cracking their whole steamed lobsters. Finally, towards the left side of the store is where they now sell a limited amount of fresh seafood and some other market items. Before shopping around, we grabbed a few bites of food. First we started with a dozen oysters, choosing mostly the larger and sweeter ones based on their blackboard. Well, we decided to start with some oysters on a half shell, which were all $3.50 a piece. My favorite was the Mere Point from Maquiot Bay, ME. They were quite plump, slightly briny, but also had a sweet finish. River Gold and Sunken Meadow were both decent, but the Kumiai oysters from the west coast were surprisingly not my favorite. We also got a live uni from Santa Barbara, CA. It was definitely fresh and relatively sweet, but I'm not sure the tiny thing was worth $24. We finished off the meal with a New England clam chowder and a fried sole sandwich. Both were decent, but nothing to write home about. After some grub, we walked around the retail area and picked up a few items. Being a fan of tinned seafood after several trips to Spain, I couldn't deny myself of some wonderful tins of razor clams and octopus, and sardine. For fresh fish, I got a large piece of hake weighing about 1lb. Lastly, I also picked up a pack of smoked salmon and bay scallops. For me, a trip to Chelsea Market is not complete without a stroll through this institution for seafood. Prices are not cheap, service is friendly, and space is very clean for a fish market. I love lobster real bad! So it doesn't take much for me. However, my mom had the lobster roll and said it didn't have any flavor at all. We've had a fair share of rolls and tails and whole lobsters so we are comparing it to other spots. I wish they had CT rolls be because I don't like Mayo. So i thought that was limited option for a place called lobster place. I also wish they had more combo options. It just felt like things get super expensive quick because there aren't many combo options. For example my steamed lobster came with no sides. Most places come with at least french fries. We both had homemade lemonade which was so sour i wouldn't recommend that unless your into sour lemonade. I think there are better spots in chelsea market but if your craving seafood check it out but tread lightly. read more

10/10 The food was amazing for every single bite. It's pricey but my god is it good. The workers are nice this place is tucked away in the seafood section of Chelsea market. read more
If you want the very best Lobster Roll, this is your spot. If you want the best New England Clam Chowder you have ever tasted, this is your spot. There is a reason they have been open for 50 years- they are doing it right. This is an absolute must if you are in the Chelsie Market. Don't walk, RUN or catch a flight, whatever you gotta do, make it happen. read more
