Wan Waan was our first dinner in NYC, and it set the bar so high for the rest of the trip! The vibes inside were excellent, busy but not enough space for a very comfortable dinner. Our service was top tier and the food was even better!! I ordered braised beef lemongrass curry and Shae ordered roti massaman beef. The flavors within both dishes were *chefs kiss*!! Our food was prepared quickly and devoured even quicker. To finish the night we ordered a mango sticky rice which was the best we've ever had. 10/10 would recommend Wan Waan. Hopefully our next trip to NYC comes soon so we can return and indulge. read more

my first New York restaurant week experience - it's always hard to tell with these things if they're really worth the money. my decision is that yes, you are getting a good bang for your buck here, but this is more of a bang than you would probably want if it wasn't restaurant week - for the starter I got the Khao Tang Na Tang. it was a bowl of crudités with some crispy rice crackers served with a savory shrimp and pork dip. the dip was like a lighter peanut sauce. I expected a thick meaty dip, but it was much more of a sauce-like consistency with a little bits of ground meat in it. definitely more like a peanut vinaigrette than a dip dip. flavor was bomb and absorbed into the rice crackers wow wow. texture was meh - for the main I ordered the Pad Mee with Branzino. the stir-fried angel hair noodles were so incredibly good. perfectly a mix of sweet and salty with chunks of egg and Chinese broccoli. I literally devoured them. the crispy branzino was OK, lots of skin. great when dipped in a side of peanut sauce - my dining companions raved over the dense rich delicious Braised Beef Massaman. the Goong Ob Woon Sen Clay Pot was quite a project with the fully shell on head on shrimp. - for dessert the Matcha mochi was good in the sense of mochi is just inherently good. however, the Matcha flavor was very very light and the mochi layer on the outside was thinner than I would like if we are going for more of a texture than flavor dish. read more

We loved this restaurant. Stumbled in late on a Saturday night feeling frazzled and hungry. If you like Thai food that's on the sweeter side, this is your spot. Everything we got was so good we all made exclamations about it. They're vegetarian friendly and have a seperate section on their menu, which helped one diner at my table. I ordered the ginger stir fry. It was excellent. The flavor was just so balanced and tasty. A friend got the fried tofu with glass noodles, also excellent and another friend got a noodle dish with a mix of shrimp and chicken (not on the menu that way but they readily accomdated) If you want a energetic vibe with good food, this place doesn't disappoint. I was craving some Thai food and I stumbled upon this place. The server was nice and attentive. She ensured that I had everything I needed and that the service was excellent. I ordered a Lychee Martini for my drink. For my appetizer I had the Fried Chicken Gyoza and for my entree I had the Pad See Ew with Chicken. Both were delicious and it was the best Thai food I had in a long time. I will definitely visit this establishment again. The restaurant wasn't noisy and it got packed quickly. I think you should blow your mind with the crab fried rice there and get it spicy because that sweet heat sauce is really something else. You should also get the fried ice cream, and Fish cakes with the cucumber relish, which is just cucumbers in a sweet Thai chili sauce, but it's on a bed of fried basil that's super tasty. I eat a lot of Thai food and this restaurant in Chelsea really surprised me with how flavorful everything was! From the beautiful mocktails to their apps and entrees, I have no complaints for everything I ate. The Phuket Dream and Sangaya mocktail drinks were wonderful. I love how Chicken Satays were moist and tender. The Curry Puffs were very flaky with a nice starchy filling. I loved the Grilled Steak Fried Rice because of the fatty salty steak. The Pad See Ew noodles were also not stuck together which I see at a lot of Thai spots, so that was a great sign! I never had duck this tender and not dry, so I recommend pairing it with their crispy duck. I ended the meal with a nice sweet Mango Sticky Rice. So many amazing options from rice dishes to curry to noodles. The crispy crab Rangoon and calamari were both fried to perfection. Both dishes were pretty light and crsipy. It was actually surprising that neither of these dishes were too greasy and so, we still had room for our mains. For the main dishes, I loved how there were a lot of different options with crab meat. Both the pad thai and fried rice were full of generous chunks of crab. I'm always partial to pad thai but the fried rice really hit that spot as well. We also loved the green curry; however, that moo grob tom yum noodle soup had that extra spicy kick to it that was so satisfying. Portions here are pretty large and definitely shareable. They have a lot of open tables and can easily do big groups. I was able to make a last minute reservation but think I would have been fine even if I didn't have one because it wasn't so busy. Overall: 5 stars Newer Thai restaurant that popped up on my radar recently and I was so impressed by the menu, which was full of intriguing options, of which none my sensitive stomach could tolerate well at this time, so I went for the classic Pad See Ew. The noodles were tender, piping hot, and had a sweet saline comfort to the bite. The chinese broccoli is cut with expert precision for tender yet crisp texture and the egg is well scrambled to serve as a light crumble. WAN WAAN is easily one of my favorite Thai spots in NYC right now. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, perfect for a casual dinner or a night out with friends. We started with the house dumplings, which were incredibly juicy and full of flavor--definitely a must-order. There are a lot of thoughtful details, like the food garnish and fresh, beautiful flowers on every table. We got the papaya salad and Phuket crab curry. We ordered chive rice cakes, lemon thai iced tea, thai iced tea, basil fried rice, pineapple fried rice, red curry, tom yum seafood noodle, soft shell crab khao soi, pad see ew, and duck noodle soup. While I was quite sad the thai iced tea didn't have dairy alternatives, the lemon thai iced tea was very refreshing. It was our first time at Wan Waan, and everyone enjoyed the food and drinks. First of all, this is only my second time coming here. The last time I came was in the summer of 2023. It was a random stop after I left the High Line. Super grateful, though. Crispy garlic chicken: babyyyyyy, this was so good. It's not crispy like fried chicken, but it's crisp enough and the garlic sauce is so savory and addicting. I opted for string beans in mine because broccoli upsets my stomach, and I was pleasantly surprised by the lunch portion, which was only $19 and included two spring rolls as an appetizer. You could also choose soup or salad, but I'm a spring roll girl. It was great. I've ordered this both times I came. Lunch fried rice: ordered my daughter The lunch fried rice with extra egg and no veggies. They got it right, and even despite the veggies not being in there, the flavor was still great. Little to nothing needed to make it flavorful AF. Lunch pad Thai: so good! I hate when pad Thai is super dry. And in this case, it had the perfect texture, moisture level, and consistency. It smelled and tasted awesome. Chicken dumplings: pretty standard, but pretty damn good. No complaints at all. Thai tea: not too sweet. Super good. We came here for dinner this week after initially stepping into Kame and a person in our party didn't want ramen so we left. Dallas bbq was on the table and then everyone looked at me for a recommendation in the area. I didn't realize until we had sat down and opened the menu that I probably bookmarked this spot for their lunch or happy hour specials. Which I guess during happy hour drinks and apps are around $8 and they have like $16-17ish lunch specials that come with an app/entree. Putting all of what I said aside it was like 9pm and we were there on their regular menu which my boyfriend's brother exclaimed in shock "$35 for noodle soup!??" upon opening said menu. I can't argue that. Actually nothing on the menu was less than $20-30ish dollars and we are talking really expensive appetizers. From past menu photos online they clearly have created a significant price increase over the past 2-3 years. Like we're talking mega price increase. I just wanted a nice steaming bowl of Kao Soi but I did not want to spend around $30-40ish dollars for it. So all three of us went with very generic dishes: Pineapple fried rice, shrimp pad thai, and beef pad thai. During our brief dining experience I couldn't help but notice that at least 2-3 tables walked out of the restaurant after sitting down and opening the menu and not ordering anything. One of these being a table of over 10 people. So I'm glad we're all on the same page. Our food came out pretty timely. They didn't have chopsticks which would have been a nice touch so I ate my food like an ignorant fork loving American. I noticed immediately that the portions were really off with our dishes. I received almost twice the amount of pad thai noodles as my boyfriend which was ridiculous since we ordered almost the same dish. He had like nothing on his plate. His brother's mound of rice was also a ridiculously small portion for how much it was priced at. It all tasted decent. It wasn't the best I ever had. I think I had about 4 pieces of shrimp. They were albeit pretty large in size shrimps but that isn't excusable. I know restaurants are struggling these days but if you make Americanized basic Thai food somewhat unaffordable with tiny portions, the people aren't going to come. But maybe for their lunch special. read more
