Came here for the Easter pre-fixe menu. Overall, food was mediocre, but the service and desserts shined, so I'm bumping the score to 4. Service - Excellent, but the staff seats you around the periphery if you aren't dressed to the nines. I can't speak for others, but I felt that the staff paid attention to our needs and appreciated it. Ambiance - A great balance of brightness, naturalness, and sophistication. Love that the restaurant doesn't feel stuffy or overly dark--the design allows for natural light to shine through. Food - The portions are generous, and the appetizer alone satisfied me. The cocktails and desserts were far more impressive than the appetizers and entree. Vanderbilt oysters were tasty but nothing to write home about--however, they were more worth the order than the torchietta. My brother enjoyed the lamb, which is a tricky protein to handle whereas I thought the duck confit was a bit too salty and heavy. The confit dish could have used more brightness and sweetness--the dijon was a nice punch but didn't do enough to balance the overall richness. I definitely think the dinner menu for the duck could be a better option. As for the dessert, the vacherin and cocoa sundae were both great--however, I may lean more towards the vacherin to cleanse your palate. It was served two ways when were slices of tuna and the other was a tuna tartare is two crackers on either side. Great presentation likely salted super fresh tuna melted in your mouth. What a great way to start a dollop of mayo was an additional feature that provided some acidity. The fennel was also amazing and as a lover it worked well for me. I tried my colleague's pasta, and it was cooked perfectly. Al dente squid ink pasta. My second course was the pork which was Berkshire pork sliced up and cooked medium. Accompanied by a compliment of vegetables and the jus that was poured table side to accompany the entire dish. A perfect entrée that went to extremely well with the Bordeaux. The dessert for me was the cheese platter which consisted of five different cheeses and accompaniments. You can never go wrong with cheeses as a desert in a French restaurant and I feel I made the right choice. My colleague had the fig dish, which was also amazing. I had the three course lunch. I chose the onion tart, mushroom pasta, and pineapple Vacherin, and this came with a bread course. The house also added on the grilled avocado salad and chocolate hazelnut mousse desserts complimentary, which was a nice touch - especially because I ended up liking those items more than my own choices! Grilled avocado - simple, but quite nice. The einkorn grains were nutty and flavorful, and paired well with the creamy grilled avocado and dots of herbaceous sauce. Bread - three varieties, served with butter. There was a crusty sourdough, a roll stuffed with cheese, and a cracker with Mediterranean spices. The crackers especially made for a nice snack while waiting in between courses. Onion tart - a flaky crust, filled with a rich onion and cheese filling. There was a fresh green salad on the side which was pretty necessary to cut through the richness. It was good, but the rich flavor profile blends in with the other dishes. I'd recommend picking the avocado instead if given the choice, to add some variety. Mushroom pasta - I picked this since the server told me it was their signature dish. I didn't love it. To my taste, it was way too rich and savory, with not a lot else going on for it. It was beautifully presented, and the vegetables in the center did a bit to cut through everything, but I think the dish just wasn't well balanced. Vacherin - it's probably a mistake to try a pineapple dessert in the winter. This one kind of relies on the quality of the fruit because it's the centerpiece, and I think they grilled it to make up for the fact that it's not quite in season. The meringue is cloyingly sweet and needs the tartness of the sorbet to prevent it from being too overwhelming. Not my favorite. Hazelnut - significantly better. I did find it to be a tad on the sweet side, but the flavors were otherwise good. The chocolate mousse played nicely with the hazelnut and the cookie underneath, and the ribbons of chocolate over the whole thing made for an attractive presentation. There was also a little blueberry candy to finish the meal, a nice light and sweet note. The lunch came to $120 with tax and tip. I was a bit underwhelmed by the food, especially at this price point. The interior of Le Pavillon is stunning, overlooking the outside area of Grand Central, with the hustle and bustle near the heart of the city. I have been to this restaurant numerous times over the past years, and have had a great experience each time. The food quality, drink selection, and service level are all up to par. Most recently, I had the restaurant week three course lunch. I appreciate that Le Pavillon provides dishes on their restaurant week menu which are not all on the main menu, showing off some different ingredients! I had the chicken consomme to start, which had an intense chicken flavor, and a hearty portion of vegetables. My short rib main dish was tender and gave a luscious beef flavor, and paired very well with the velvety potato. Le Pavillon is breathtakingly beautiful. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was elegant and peaceful with lots of greenery. The host and hostess were welcoming, and our waiter was fantastic, attentive without being intrusive. It was my birthday and throughout the evening, the staff would wish me a happy birthday. We were seated by the window, and the view was stunning. For dinner I had the Dover sole stuffed with real lobster chunks and it was absolutely delicious, and for dessert, the lemon cake was out of this world. Le Pavillon was an absolute delight! While visiting NY, my hubby and I came here for our anniversary celebration and it was a wonderful meal. We started off with pre-dinner cocktails, both of which were bright and refreshing. We then went with the 3-course dinner with wine pairings and everything was delicious. They feature "Land and Sea" entrees or "Terre et Mer." I got the 'Porc' entree while my husband got the 'Boeuf' or strip-loin. I don't typically go for pork at a French restaurant but I must say, Le Pavillon nailed this dish. Every bite was tender and moist. And their desserts were to die for! Especially the meringue dessert. They have struck the perfect balance between classically French cuisine with a modern twist. James provided great service and made our evening enjoyable. Just didn't love the high ceilings and the bright layout. Bread and butter: bagel-like bread, sliced sourdough (I think) and lavash which was crispy. Decent bread and the butter was good too, although not enough for our party. I'd think they'd give more if asked. They do a 2 or 3 lunch prie fixe where you can pick an appetizer and entree (and dessert). I thought both of my selections were just okay, given the price. The avocado in particular was underwhelming, and I'd pick it based on reviews. I was also left a little hungry despite the bread, which is a testament to the smaller portion size of the entree. Grilled avocado Sea bass Dinner: had reservations, but still quite a few tables available. Nice thing was that my counterpart was late, but I didn't get pressure from the staff about it. I got the muri white ferment mocktail, and it's pre-mixed and bottled which I didn't realize. It's sort of a light dessert wine, not sure that I liked it, but perhaps because I was in the mood for a refreshing crafted drink. I did get the white wine Bordeaux, which was fruity and lovely, and I'd get again. Bread options were slightly different and there was an olive bread that was particularly good. The spaghetti and the Dover sole were better dishes than my lunch. The spaghetti was a little too rich than I'd like but plenty of caviar but the sole was well paired with the artichoke. I got the chocolate cafe dessert which was probably bigger than the two prior dishes altogether - this was tasty too. However, I was left feeling hungry after I started walking back, perhaps not enough protein. I don't know that I'd come back here or would have to do a tasting menu. This is the first time I've left hungry twice from the same restaurant. And for that cardinal sin, I have to give it one star given the price point. read more

We were excited to try Le Pavillon but unfortunately our experience was pretty disappointing. The service was poor and honestly intrusive. From the moment I arrived I felt like I was being watched, almost as if the server assumed I was going to dine and dash. She hovered uncomfortably close the entire time and it made for an awkward meal. Food was hit or miss. The corn soup was the best part of the savory courses, but the lobster spaghetti came out ice cold and congealed. The short rib tasted off, almost like canned dog food, and the polenta was gritty and chunky instead of smooth -- more like gummy farro with rind, as if it had been sitting out. Our plates were burning hot which felt like they had been under the heat lamp way too long. My wife said her arctic char was just okay. We've been here once before but for their lunch menu so wanted to come back to try their dinner. We made a last minute reservation for a weekend dinner. On arrival we were greeted and brought upstairs where they took us to our table. Service was professional and in line with other similar restaurants. The three course prie fixe was great - I started with the avocado, followed by beef, before ending with nectarine dessert. Everything was delicious and beautifully plated. The steak was cooked exactly as requested as well. The restaurant itself is beautiful with very high ceilings and a lovely view of Grand Central and the Chrysler Building which is also lovely at night. Garden in the Sky is real! The anticipation you get from the entrance, up the stairs, seeing the empire state building, a glimpse of the beautiful bar, then going through the garden (with real plants!), and then guided to your seat, is a true pleasure. For the meal, there is a tasting menu option and a 3 course a la carte. I had a group of four so we went with a la carte option, which allowed us to order a variety of foods. From the start, it was clear that the service was going to be excellent. Pushing in your chairs, coat check, staff swarming everywhere. People are kind, say the right things at the right time, and make the entire experience worry-less. They present each course elegantly, and at a choreographed style. It is a joy to watch. As for the food, the plating was already a delight, and the flavors were great. A wide variety of flavors were demonstrated, and also in complex ways. From different textures, to temperatures. The corn soup was sweet and wholesome, but then the acidity from the sauces and the red shrimp was rich to eat. The caviar helping on the spaghetti was very generous, and the spaghetti itself was a bit too hard for my liking, but I understand the vision. For the mains, pretty much every dish has a sauce to accompany, which is great for showmanship and also to make your dish a bit more interesting. The desserts are certainly a highlight and everyone enjoyed. There is also bread service, so even though it is 3 courses, you will likely be full by the end of the meal. The other great part about Le Pavillon is that it is priced amazingly. You can spend around $200 per person with tip and tax, with some light drinks and add-ons. Our dinner lasted almost four hours since our reservation time. It took an hour for dessert to arrive and another hour to close out. Valentine's Day dinner at Le Pavillon was one of the most disappointing fine-dining experiences I've ever had. We came in with very high expectations. A Michelin-starred restaurant by Daniel Boulud, charging well over $1,000 for two people on a holiday tasting menu, should deliver precision, warmth, and excellence. Instead, the evening felt disorganized, inattentive, and deeply underwhelming. For context, I've dined at countless Michelin-starred restaurants in New York and around the world. I have never experienced anything like this at that level. It genuinely made me question what is happening with the Michelin Guide. The problems started immediately. Despite empty tables and a beautiful dining room, we were seated at one of the worst tables. Menus were dropped on the table without explanation or hospitality. Staff seemed rushed and disengaged. No one walked us through the menu. Yet someone suddenly appeared asking what wine we wanted before we had even received a wine list. We had to request it ourselves. It felt chaotic and poorly coordinated. We ordered cocktails. They arrived 45 minutes later. We checked multiple times and were ignored or avoided. Eye contact was actively avoided as servers walked past. When the martini finally arrived, it cost $72 and tasted terrible. To their credit, they eventually comped it because they knew something had gone wrong. But comping a bad cocktail does not fix a Valentine's Day dinner that was meant to feel special. Wine service was frustrating. Asking to decant the bottle felt like an argument rather than a simple request. Glasses were filled excessively, half a bottle poured into one glass, which is unprofessional. The wine glasses themselves felt surprisingly cheap for this price point. The food did not redeem the experience. The amuse-bouche was bland. The foie gras was the only genuinely good course. After that, it declined sharply. The pasta was ordinary, basic tomato sauce with a tiny, nearly tasteless piece of lobster. The halibut was completely underseasoned and flavorless. Plates were cleared while we were still eating. Dishes were delivered with rushed, mumbled explanations. Eight different people seemed to serve us, yet no one took ownership of the table. Water glasses were not refilled. I had to ask three times. Wine glasses were not refilled either, and at one point I poured my own wine. Before the duck course, a server removed one of our plates with food still on it and incorrectly told us dessert was next. It wasn't. Then he returned to say steak was next. Also incorrect. The duck itself was bland and underseasoned. Painting sauce on a plate does not compensate for lack of flavor. The bread was stale and tough. The bathroom was messy, tissues on the floor. Small details matter at this level. Dessert, a soufflé, was overly sweet and unbalanced. Nothing justified the cost. When you spend over $1,000 for two people on Valentine's Day, you expect care, polish, and memorable cuisine. Instead, the evening felt rushed, impersonal, and shockingly mediocre. The interior is beautiful. That is the only positive I can honestly give. Perhaps it was a bad night. But at this price point, that is not an acceptable excuse. We will not return, and I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

I had high expectations, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The duck was extremely salty and had a very strong gamey duck flavor. When I mentioned this to our server, instead of acknowledging the feedback, they insisted that the saltiness was simply how duck tastes. I've had duck many times before, so I know the difference between the natural flavor of duck and a dish that is overly salted. The greens in the same dish were noticeably bitter, the black beans had a strange medicinal/herbal taste that overwhelmed the dish. Also, the grains underneath the appetizer (grilled avocado) were so hard. The service was also inconsistent. The server who presented the appetizers took the time to explain each dish, but when the main courses arrived, there was no introduction at all. Another thing that really bothered me was the appearance of the server who brought out the main course. Their fingernails were very long, yellow, thick, and looked unclean, which was quite off-putting in a fine dining restaurant. Lastly, our water glasses were never refilled throughout the meal. Nothing at all stood out and the meal didn't justify the cost for me. The raw fish dish didn't feel that fresh. The bread serving all felt very stale, chewy, and hard. The butter was also still too cold to spread on the bread when they brought it out. Not what you'd expect of a place like this. Final comment was that the menu had way too many choices. I looked at the three course a la carte menu for a good 15 minutes before saying forget it, I'll just do the 6-course pre-selected tasting menu. Options are good at restaurants, but there is definitely an exhaustion point of too many options. It stresses the consumer out. Our least favorite dish was the Agrumes, the citus coulis tasted fresh and vibrant and exactly how I expected it to taste but in general we both aren't fans of citrus coulis, nothing wrong with the dish, just different palates. I'm glad I got to try French food to this caliber and it really felt like a 2 michelin star instead of a 1 michelin star restaurant. Restaurant Week 8/oops I missed one. For a short review, the "mer" is in general better than the "terre." I went to this French spot a month ago (a couple days after Café Boulud which is by run by the same chef) as part of the Summer 2025 Restaurant Week (which I will be shortening to RW from now on) meal. By comparison to some other spots, this Michelin Star place only has a RW menu for lunch and it is two courses for $60 or three for $75. The listing online said that it was only till August 17th though apparently it was still available by request. For this reason, a few people did said RW menu and two others (me and someone else) did the comparatively more expensive lunch which is $78 for two courses or $95 for three. The space inside has a nice atmosphere (particularly the bar) and the service was very friendly explaining parts of the menu or dishes as requested with the people in front also being friendly and professional as well. They gave us three types of bread to begin with along with butter. The bread was an interesting mix though honestly, the cheesier one reminded me a bit too much of an Asiago bagel from a certain chain with my favorite being the crustier bread with the cracker being fine. I started with the Duo of Yellowfin Tuna with fennel pollen, socca crisp, and tonnato sauce. The two types consisted of a minced version as well as a lightly seared one with my preference of the two being the minced as I think it highlighted the crisp and tuna flavor more. Both were tasty however with the lightly sour sauce complementing the high quality tuna. The portion was adequate and overall, it was a very tasty summery dish. The other person ordering from the main menu got the gorgeous looking Kampachi with a duo of kampachi, zucchini, jamon iberico, and sicilian cantaloupe vinaigrette which she loved. For the others doing the RW menu, they mostly got the Spaghetti au Homard with Maine lobster, saffron, and sauce homardine with someone else getting the salad. We shared a bit of each of our dishes and the sauce was excellent having the best qualities of a lobster bisque while the pasta was perfectly prepared. This was probably my favorite bite of the night and for some others, it was theirs as well. My main dish was the Grilled Wagyu Flatiron Steak with braised oxtail Yorkshire pudding, asparagus, horseradish, and Roquefort au poivre where they also poured another sauce at the table (a well made red wine based reduction.) The wagyu consisted of three small pieces but I didn't mind as it was quite rich due to it's inherent fattiness and it was cooked perfectly. The horseradish added some zing while my favorite sauce was the Roquefort au poivre which had a bit of cheesy funk to it which helped reduce the richness of the wagyu while the reduction was more standard. The best part of the dish however was the Yorkshire pudding with the beef inside being tender and rich and they should honestly give this as one of their amuse-bouche or something as it's that outstanding. This was a nice dish overall with many good components though I felt overall it didn't go particularly well together outside of the Roquefort and steak. The other person ordered the Grilled Black Seabass with demi-sec tomatoes, eggplant, Carolina gold rice, sauce bourride which she liked but she preferred her appetizer but it was also all well presented. I tried a bit of the RW main everyone got which was the Plat de Côtes with braised short rib, orange zest, and sauce daube which had tender tasty meat with a slight orange flavor though I didn't like the texture much of the polenta. My dessert was the Pineapple Vacherin with honey ginger rotisserie pineapple, sorbet, fennel marmalade, and vanilla Chantilly. The dish overall was on the sour end with the ginger being quite strong with some sweetness but not too much. It was good though I heavily preferred a similarly citrusy dessert the previous few days at Café Boulud as the latter was more balanced and this almost got a bit too much of a bite to it. The other main menu dessert ordered was the Hazelnut Chocolate with milk chocolate crémeux, praline croustillant, and hazelnut nougatine. I had a nibble as she wanted to try mine and it was excellent with high quality chocolate and it wasn't too sweet with good textures being a much better dessert than mine. The RW menu people enjoyed their Café Cocoa Sundae with coffee ice cream, chocolate financier, chantilly cream, and chocolate emulsion or the Tropézienne with orange blossom, creme diplomate, and pistachio ice cream. They gave us some Coconut Pâte de Fruit as our mignardise which was pleasant with a nice texture and it wasn't too sweet either. We had a good experience here though I overall slightly preferred my meal earlier in the week at his "Café." I would still go back and I would still recommend this place even if there's other fancier French spots I prefer and I also think that others had overall better dishes. read more

It's a nicely designed restaurant overlying the street with high ceilings. The music had nice Christmas tunes. Tables were also separated enough for intimate vibes rather than lively. grilled avocado, einkorn berries yogurt green goddess, john's river oyster gratinée, hazelnut parsley-seaweed crust - the oyster is maybe the best I've had in my life (so far) with gratinee overlying hazelnut. The parsley seaweed contrasted nicely. Avocado and rice with berries was such a fun dish to eat with contrasting textures. squid ink spaghetti, spanish carabinero prawn lobster bisque, saffron butter- this was excellent. The spaghettis is house made with infused squid wink that went fantastic with the bisque and butter, just so rich. The prawn was tender and flavorful. poached atlantic halibut, pepper basquaise caramelized bok choy, lemon & basil- this was fine, the halibut was cooked easy but a fairly basic presenting dish and flavors. roasted wild dover sole, braised leek, celery root, crosne, beurre rouge. WOW unbelievable. Initially simple looking but complex and multilayered with rich flavors on every bite and whether individual or combined ingredients. This was a signature if I could name one of these. roasted double r ranch striploin, braised short rib artichoke, chickpea panisse, orange, sauce daube - nicely designed dish with complimenting sauce, panisse and artichokes. the striploin was so tender and juicy while the short rib was a bit dry and chewy. milk chocolate mousse, praline croustillant hazelnut nougatine - paired with a Madeira- rich chocolate with hint of salt to contrast, hazelnut crunch topped it off great. We came here for our anniversary and loved it! We opted for the 3 course menu plus wine pairings. We tried: First course: Foie gras and spaghetti chittara Second course: duck and steak Dessert: cheese and chocolate hazelnut dish All the wine pairings went really well with each of our dishes and they brought out a complimentary third dessert for our anniversary which was a nice touch. Had my eye on this place for a while because I'm a big fan of Daniel Boulud. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here in January 2025 and both did the 3-course pre fixe. I tried: + Saturnino herran cocktail - this was like an okay margarita, wouldn't recommend + Relevé cocktail - this was like a very good whiskey sour, would recommend + Poulpe / octopus - highlight #1 + bucatini / crab - good + Boeuf / striploin - highlight #2 + Fletan / halibut - good + Kaki / creme brûlée - amazing, except for the weird dry biscuit thing it came with + noisette - fine It was more than enough food... I just wish it were slightly better. Overall I'd say the food is a 4, and +.5 for service, which was excellent. Both Daniel and Boulud Sud (rip) had better food in my memory, and this place is not quite it. 4.5 stars. read more

This is a classic Michelin experience. Le Pavillon punches above its weight -- I think the food could be worthy of two stars. The ambiance is beautiful, with tons of green plants and trees throughout the restaurant. Service is friendly, but as the restaurant filled up and got busier it wasn't as attentive. I did the lunch tasting menu: -- The grilled avocado was absolutely delightful. So much flavor was packed into this dish. This was my favorite. -- The white asparagus dish was also a treat. The asparagus was extremely flavorful and tender. This was the dish that one of my party members couldn't stop raving about. -- The fettuccine was creamy but a little bland. -- The arctic char was standard. -- The grilled wagyu flatiron steak had excellent flavor. The sauce complemented the dish well. The lil bread puff was a nice accompaniment to this dish. -- The chocolate dessert was very rich and the sweetness kind of overwhelmed the dish. -- After we received the tab, it took 20 minutes for someone to come back around and run our card. read more

Love it when MICHELIN star restaurants have lunch offerings. We had the three course prix fixe for 95 (you can also have the two for 78 or six course tasting for 120). I find it often nice to enjoy my decadent meal early in the day and eat light for dinner. Wonderful experience. read more

Le Pavillon has a very beautiful space, great ambiance, and tasty food! We visited for my boyfriend's birthday and were excited for a fantastic evening. However, there was a bit of a mix-up upon arrival. It was a bit disappointing. It seemed the staff didn't read the notes about the occasion and our preferred seating near the garden under the reservation--there was no birthday acknowledgment from the receptionist or hostess, and we were initially seated at a less desirable table. We also didn't receive a congratulatory postcard, which I had expected after reading about it in other reviews. Fortunately, the manager quickly accommodated us and moved us to a lovely table near the garden. We chose the 3-course experience, selecting one dish from the sea and one from the land for each course. The meal started with a delicious bread basket and a flavorful amuse-bouche (complimentary). First course: * Whole quail - perfectly roasted and paired with sweet, nutty kabocha squash, this was my favorite dish, and we were both so happy with it. * Grilled octopus with crushed yukon potatoes - was so good! The flavors were amazing and well-balanced. Main course: * Scallops baked in the shell - beautifully presented, and each bite was absolutely fantastic. * Roasted striploin with a mushroom "strudel" - absolutely delicious, another favorite! The kitchen kindly split the plate for us, which made it easy to share. Dessert: * KAKI --a crème brûlée with persimmon compote, bourbon ice cream, and maple fudge. * NOISETTE - a chocolate mousse with praline croustillant and hazelnut nougatine. We also received complimentary miniature profiteroles, and all the desserts were amazing. As for drinks, we started with a glass of sparkling champagne and then had a bottle of wine that our server recommended. The wine paired nicely with our food, and it was served at the perfect temperature. Overall, the service was nice and well-paced, and the portions were generous--we left completely full! Another restaurant week spot. I was really excited for this one because I have been craving French food and it's affiliated with Chef Daniel Boulud. The interior was stunning, the high ceiling and greenery. But ... I think it's a ima only check it out once kind of spot for me, especially for that price point. Elegant, modern upscale eatery - attempting to be fine dining, although not fully achieving the goal. Menu was heavy on seafood dishes, most of which appeared to be monochromatic in cooking style. Especially in the tasting menu, which we did not partake of, there were too many seafood dishes, all of which looked extremely similar in flavor profile. Why would you double up on fish plates, and then multiple additional seafood items, when your menu has so many other rich proteins and vegetables from which to choose? We started off with the oysters, which we assumed to be raw; however, unbeknownst to us, they were actually cooked, and covered in a sauce and topping. Typically, we like our oysters cold and raw; the menu did not specify that they were warm, and the waiter failed to describe the dish to us or inform us that they were cooked. Not our favorite, but perhaps we should've asked additional questions. The beet salad (much more complex than tidy expect) was a solid, tasty dish that was both refreshing and rich in flavor. The rich consommé with garlic, mushroom and dumplings was outstanding; deeply flavored yet light and warm. Perfect for a winter dinner. For main courses, we enjoyed the duck and the fettuccine with mushrooms and black truffle. The duck was perfectly cooked, and an absolutely beautiful, tender flavor. Truly a stand out dish. The fettuccine was above average, although a bit thick and heavy, even for the season. The wine list, however, is incredible in terms of expensive and impressive vintages, with a seemingly endless array of top level selections. The sommelier Nikki, was top-notch in terms of helping us select both the wine and the vintage for the food we had ordered. Bravo! Overall, this is a place with super friendly service, a fun and modern ambiance, and well crafted if not Michelin Star cuisine. Good but not memorable. While we enjoyed our time - and the impressive wine list - the restaurant did not give me a reason to return. read more

Fabulous dinning experience! Ambiance is beautiful, I love the garden feel throughout the restaurant. Service is great, the staff were welcoming with fun personalities. Food was divine. My friends and I did the 3 course experience. Portions were big for fine dining! We left FULL! Oysters were beautifully presented, cooked perfectly and the parsley breading on top was full of flavor. Octopus was so damn good! Halibut was flaky, and served in the most delicious broth. My friends loved their steak. Lobster was also really good, however if I had to choose again I would have gotten the halibut. All the desserts were delicious! read more

My husband and I chose to celebrate my birthday with our first visit to the dramatic, high-end Le Pavillon, developed by world-renowned chef Daniel Boulud. We entered an overwhelmingly gorgeous space--with views of the Chrysler Buildling glimmering in the night, and were greeted like royalty. We began with lovely cocktails, were then escorted to our seats at a very comfortable table, side-by-side with other friendly diners. The space itself was both dramatic, modern, and warm; the tables, glassware, napkins, etc., were top of the line, and gracious in every way. We chose the 7-course Tasting Menu (how could we not?!), and shared one wine pairing between us. This highly inventive, beautifully plated, diverse, and delectable menu was a brilliant excursion through dozens of ingredients, each course shining like the work of art it was. Portion sizes were spot on, allowing many gustatory suprises while permitting ample room to complete the meal. Kudos to the entire team--service was beyond compare. From the person who reliably filled our water glasses, the helpful sommeliers, the terrific and knowledgeable servers, the bread bakers, to the chefs themselves behind the scenes, we thoroughly enjoyed a memorably spectacular evening. Before this restaurant, I never thought that poor service could ruin the experience of food. On Valentine's day of all days, I wish this restaurant had a self-serve kiosk or buffet style instead of what I experienced on a special dinner like tonight. Food: Food quality was probably the only thing fine about this restaurant. It matches the quality of entry level fine dining, with a solid foie grais and duck. There wasn't anything particularly special or creative with the dishes, but the quality would have been fine if there were any basic levels of service included in this restaurant. Ambiance: Fine - bar looks nice and the interior is fine with soft music. Everything seems ok when you first enter. Service: Absolutely abysmal. Here's why: - Insanely long coach check line to the point that we gave up trying to get to the front of it (we were third in line and it wasn't moving) - No one took our order. We were sat down with the menus, but no one took our order for 10-15 minutes. Eventually, I had to wave someone down to take our order. -Timing. For a five course meal, we were at the restaurant for 2.5 hours, and that is after I told the wait staff to bring out the desert as soon as possible because we were tired and bugging them to get our check. That is ridiculous. We sat waiting 10-20 minutes after we had finished our course for someone to take our plate away and then another period of waiting for someone to bring the next dish. Ridiculous timing. -Did we even have a waiter? We never really had a waiter that did even the basics of taking our order or refilling waters. It was RIDICULOUS. I've had better service at the Denny's than at this supposedly "michelin star" restaurant. What's worse was that everyone around us seemed to have better service, with their waiters/waitresses folding their napkins if someone left for the bathroom and checking in on the food. I had to pull people's teeth to get even the basic refills in water, another tea for my date, ordering any drinks and even just trying to get the check to leave. I mean who am I even tipping at this point? - No soap in the bathroom. I mean come on... - The worst thing is I had to ask MULTIPLE TIMES for something to get done. I wanted a drink menu... had to ask 2-3 times. I wanted my check - ask multiple times. I am in shock of how this establishment could even have gotten close to earning a Michellin star. It's to the point where I question if the Michellin Guide is even worth referencing for one star restaurants. This place really needs to step it up. I can, without a doubt, say that this was the worst service I received from a restaurant. Get it together. read more

I took my wifey for her bday dinner at Le Pavillon. We had reservations at 8pm but we finished our Empire State Building tour 2 hrs earlier than expected. We checked if they could seat us earlier, and they accommodating. We both ordered the Chef's tasting menu. Every dish was amazing to the eyes and mouth. The service was superb.
