A restaurant inside Rockefeller Center. Weirdly, bathrooms on the second floor of a narrow hallway stair... odd placement but probably hard for anyone that has difficulty with stairs. The raw bar was ok, oysters ok but the lack of spoons for the vinegar and cocktail sauce was a bit unfortunate. Plenty of seafood forks, though. They also shared a few small sausages, apparently their specialty, they were not bad, but not incredibly flavorful. Almost tasted like too much liver or something in them. The lobster roll - we asked for them to cut it in the kitchen. Chef said no... gave us a knife. Ok, we did it a bit more messily. The charred leek though - that was top notch. Particularly with the warp around the lovely core, tasty and juicy, with a supremely good ravigote vinaigrette that was excellent with the bread (could've had a lot more of this - sour, tart and salty). Dover sole was cleanly fileted (no bones) and a little more crisp at the edge with a good butter lemon sauce. The dessert of a cherry chip ice cream was ok, but very tart. Profiterole was ok, imbalanced on the cream/chocolate and the pastry was less flaky/airy as was expected. Overall not bad, will be back to try more. read more

The desserts were the star of the show for me: the rhubarb soufflé and strawberry crepe cake were amazing. The duck and steak frites were also very good and juicy. The portions are very small especially at that price--it felt especially egregious with the four tiny pieces of duck and the charred leek. The onion soup was delicious. The escargot were fine. The lamb was a bit dry, and the bread was okay. The baba aux chartreuses was super interesting--we got the lightest rum choice, but it still tasted pretty strong. But the taste grows on you. We snagged a 5:30 reservation, with all other slots being unavailable, but it didn't seem that crowded when we left. What an amazing experience the server believe it or not was from Florida and she was just so kind made us a nice fresh martini drink for me. I think I had a gin martini well let me tell you getting to this place was an adventure my sister and I were doing our sister's trip annual trip that we do and New York was it for this year. We experienced the E bikes drove that E bike all the way from Manhattan to Brooklyn I mean downtown New York. We did everything and I also even had a wonderful experience not so wonderful just being sarcastic here insert humor sort of but I did have a accident dangerous accident on fifth Avenue there are around the corner and let me tell you that really hurt very lucky that it wasn't worse than bruising my whole arm, but it was still quite a shock to my system as old as I am and we got to Larocque right after it happened and told the lady and she just made sure we were comfortable made my drink and we had an excellent steak. It was just quite an experience, friendly quality food, beautiful romantic I could see dinner happening there as well and being in the mix of everything. We gathered here for holiday cheers and dinner amongst the din of the bustling crowds. The Good: - Cocktails to start were fine. - Delicious bread service, Pâté, Charred Leeks. - Entrée of Seared Scallops - Desserts of Grand Marnier Soufflé and Profiteroles The Bad: - Escargots were off, all I could taste was heavy handed butter - Sole Meuniere, again drenched & overwhelmed. We had Christmas Eve dinner here and it was a wonderful experience! There was a partial view of the tree from our seat but it was still very special. The dining room isn't super large and feels cozy and festive. It wasnt too noisy either. Service was great, very professional. Le Rock is legit. A place in Rockefeller center with all the tourists nearby has no business being this good. We went before a show at Radio City and loved early minute of it. The service teams kept water refilled. The decor was modern without being stuffy. And the food was delicious. We started with a pea shoot salad that was light and yet satisfying. A simple microgreens dish. And I got the bouillabaisse which had big chunks of fish and mussels. And a nice broth that was rich without being too thick. Perfect. Each dish was like this. Of course food this good in NYC goes with a price too. We were basically over $100 per person with a cocktail etc. but would I come here again? Yes and yes. Well done. read more

Great food, fantastic service. There wasn't really a dish we tried that we didn't like. Some were more of a love than others (looking at you, barbajuans, I'd get those 100 times out of 100). The portions are a little on the smaller side, but they make up for it with really great flavors. The service staff was really helpful. They made some fantastic recommendations, were extremely attentive and overall made this feel like a high end experience. My only complaint is they wedged our large-ish group into a really tight space. I know space is a premium, but would have been nice to have room. read more

My fiancé and I checked out Le Rock prior to going to a Broadway show. This was our first time really going out and getting French cuisine. I told them about my gluten allergy and the waiter was knowledgeable about which dishes were safe for me/ how to modify them. We started off with 1/2 a dozen oysters. They were delicious and fresh. Then, we ordered the escargot without the crouton. It was garlicky, fresh, and the escargot itself was very tender. Afterwards, we received the steak frites and the brook trout. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. The fries were gluten free and were NOT in a shared fryer so that was awesome! The brook trout was flakey and so buttery, it was delicious. Had high expectations for really tasty French cuisine. The garlicky aroma of the escargot fills the whole restaurant so of course we had to order it! The plate which accommodates 6 pieces, surprisingly we were served only 5 with a piece of toast covering up the 6th slot. For the price point we felt that was pretty unusual. While there was nothing about this meal that was *bad*, I will definitely not return. The dealbreaker: the acoustics. My husband is hard of hearing and we just could not hold a conversation -- even at 5 when the dining area was far from full. He ordered the escargot, which were "good, not great," he said. Bread was served about 10 minutes after the snails, so not ideal timing. We had burgers, and these were good. Husband enjoyed his more than I did. Was that tarragon in the seasoning? I'm not sure. It was a solid burger, but as I've been eating my way through some of the best in the city, this one just doesn't stack up. That said, the aioli that came with the fries was my favorite part of the meal. (The fries were solid too.) Don't take this the wrong way -- freshly made mayo is just to die for. My Heritage Chicken was okay - reasonable portions but some pieces were tougher than others. My friend said the duck breast was good. I had this restaurant on my bucket list, and initially, I went because it was NYC Restaurant Week 2024. I had dinner with my friend. The ambiance is intimate, and people were a little more dressed up. We ended up ordering a la carte because there were some dishes I wanted to try. I ordered a rose and my friend went red. The server was knowledgeable of the food and drink options, but service was slow. We started with the escargots and agnolotti. The escargots were very herby compared to the ones we've had at other French restaurants. The agnolotti was very good and worth ordering. For the main entrées, we ordered the bison au poivre and heritage chicken. The bison was lean and filling, but the cost was steep for the quantity. The fries were good, though, and took those home. The chicken was very good, and the portion was generous. The cost of the chicken dish was on par with portion served. We had to skip dessert because we had a train/Uber ride to catch. On a recent Saturday night, my friends and ventured to Le Rock for dinner. I always eyeball the menu before trying a new restaurant and I was all in for the spiced duck. It was some of the best duck that I've ever had. It was so flavorful, tender, and cooked to perfection. My friends and I started off with a few cocktails and appetizers. I ordered the escargot, and my friends the barbajuans, falafel, and carrottes rapees, and of course the pommes frites. For the main course, my friends went for the halibut. The three of them were all members of the clean-plate club. I love my desserts and I love it even more when I get a little taste of everything. Luckily for me the dessert menu has Les Mignardises. I ordered for the table thinking "hmmm...maybe one of my friends will pass and I'll get more!" There's nothing more fun for me than tiers of bite-sized sweet goodness. Lots of variety to make everyone happy (macarons, cannelés, fruit gelees, opera cake etc.) If you're stuffed from dinner, this will satisfy your sweet tooth without making you loosen that belt or wish you wore a flowy dress to dinner instead of that bodycon fit. read more

I came here before a show because it has been on my list and I rarely go out in midtown so was excited to check this one off. As a New Yorker, there are sooooo many incredible French restaurants, or even solid French restaurants, this is not one of them. We got the oysters (came with some sausage....), French onion soup (star of the evening but.. like a pretty basic French dish!), steak frites (avoid, insanely bland, tastes like airplane food), croq au vin (fine but also tastes like airplane food, came with noodles...) and martini (fine in a city that has some pretty amazing ones!). Overall not worth $218 for two - go anywhere else in the city - Go to Olive Garden in Times Square - it will be better, Dear Irving Broadway, pizza, Irish bar, truly anywhere. Highly recommend you avoid this one - cannot emphasize enough that this one is truly not with the hype. There are so many other amazing restaurants in this city - this is not one of them. I had expected a far more pedestrian place when I heard about Le Rock in Rockefeller Center. That idea was immediately quashed upon entry. A classy ambience provided quiet assurance, this will be a great meal. I wasn't sure what to order. Everything looked interesting. My server/bartender must have sensed apprehension and jumped in with much needed guidance. He steered me toward the Tete de Cochon served with a crusty beard, this acidic and savory terrine was great. I might never have ordered the Leek Vinaigrette and that would have been unfortunate. Loved the tart and tangy mixed with the roasted en croute leeks. The Halibut served over spinach with potatoes was beautiful and so tasty. Simply a treat. I finished with the Profiterole, excellent. I'm glad I stopped here and I'm also glad the server was so knowledgeable. The combo made for a memorable evening. read more

A friend and I had lunch at Le Rock before seeing a matinee on a Wednesday afternoon. We were seated promptly upon arrival and our waiter took our drink orders right away as well as asking if we had any time restraints. For lunch we shared the shredded carrot salad and a side of sautéed spinach and we each ordered the omelette. My friend and I are both egg lovers and this omelette was cooked PERFECTLY. As mentioned in my previous reviews, I've been following the so-called revival effort of Rockefeller Center with some interest. And by follow, I mean eat. Some places have been great. Others have been eh. NGL, I was genuinely expecting Le Rock to be eh, despite the recent hype. French fare is always so...extra. It's either obnoxiously rich or ridiculously overpriced, and more often than not, it's both. Well, Le Rock is date night pricey, but not Michelin-starred pricey, and the food is only rich in the sense of bursting with flavor. We. Loved. It. For classic pate and carbs, you are well-served with the Cervelle de Canut and Chicken Liver Mousse to start your meal. I don't think I've ever seen Barbajuans on a French menu outside of France, so major props to Team Le Rock for serving this overlooked appetizer. They were fried to perfection. The Beignets Brandade de Morue were equally perfect, so savory I think I cried a little when the plate was empty. The squeamish will avoid the Tablier de Sapeur because it says "tripe" on the menu, but they're fools who don't deserve good French food because this is a rare gem in the world of American French dining--a Lyonnaise specialty presented in perfect crispness with perfectly creamy sauce. Similarly, the squeamish (and jaded) will avoid the Escargots Bourguignons, but these were some of the best snails I've had, topped with a wonderful almond flour disc. The Rigatoni Duck Bolognaise was rich fowl umami--so good, it should be upgraded to entree size, and so good, it puts most pasta restaurants to shame. The Steak Haché was filling without being overdone. I think the one dud of our meal was the very photogenic Leeks Vinaigrette--by all means, 'gram this dish in all its unwrappable glory, but the end result is kind of anticlimactic and too tart. And I love leeks. Fortunately, dessert made up for that. The much-touted Baba aux Muses Verte is as moist and pillowy as you'd expect, but I'd skip the alcohol drizzle unless you have a problem. However, the Baba was easily surpassed by the fantastic Rhubarb Nougat Glacé aux Pistaches, which was perfectly semi-frozen and bursting with herbal, nutty flavor. read more

A part of my job seems to be aligning ppl's schedules and finding place for us to have dinner or lunch. A client was in town from LA and what started to be three ppl turned into a seven ppl moment. Our initial place did not take reservations for more than 6 ppl so we had to pivot and go here. We got everything on the menu and even a dessert tower. Drinks were delicious and strong and the food was just exquisite. I am sure I had constructive feedback at the time, but I honestly cannot remember, which means it was me being nitpicky at that time and it wasn't all that material for me to take home and report back here. The price point is on the high side so it was perfect for a client dinner moment. The client enjoyed the food and so did we. I will say we all were laughing that we had to pay for bread, but it was fine. This will be one of my go to places for business lunch/dinner. Le Rock in Rockefeller Center is a polished French restaurant serving well dressed patrons (we spotted Alexander Wang dining at the table next to us) delicious French classics. We started off our meal with sardines, cerevelle de canut and baguette, and adorable seasonal barbajuans. For appetizers we savored the leeks vinaigrette dressed tableside and agnolotti with chanterelle tomato rich with umami flavor. Mains were the striped bass clams haricots, saucisse au comte, and steak hache served with the some of the most perfect French fries I've had in NYC. The sequel to its popular sibling Frenchette, Le Rock opened with much anticipation and media hype. Currently the hottest table here in New York City right now, we went on Dec. 29th Thursday, for a special lunch date to try it out. Note that the menu is strictly in French and that they don't offer the Bison Au Poivre during lunch. I had the $24 a glass champagne but the red wine for Luis was cold so he had to get a rose instead. The tables are pretty tight and you'll hear other people's conversations. But these are all redeemed by the fantastic service (thank you, Francheska!) and the profiteroles and petits fours, which seemed to be the real stars of show. Oh and the interior design is gorgeous and seeing the Rockefeller Christmas tree from the inside of the restaurant is an absolute delight. There's a lunch prix fixe which can be a fantastic value and they don't require it for the whole table. I had the house paté which was delicious, the duck confit was crispy and divine and the profiteroles and petits fours completed the experience. The steak hache ended up being on the raw side so Luis couldn't eat it anymore after a bite. The bread service was good and that chicken liver mousse really went well with the bread. Everything about Le Rock is superlative. My NY friends tease me about my generous use of superlatives, but what can I do when I've hit the Zenith? And Le Rock is that. I'll have to give everyone else 4 stars or less after this. - It's location: between 30 Rock and 50 Rock and an integral part of the Rockefeller Center complex. Dine within full view of the Christmas tree. - The building it's housed in is an architectural treasure... a streamlined art deco monument with a facade that is iconic. - Walk inside and glamour becomes a noun... a place. The light fixtures! The banquettes. The moulding. - The staff appear to genuinely care for their customers. I was only there for 90 minutes or so, but I walked out feeling appreciated and pampered by each person I interacted with. Maitre d' Shay was accommodating and considerate. Marco beamed as he served us. - Its wines are natural, organic. The wine list is a marvel. The sommelier is clearly proud of his offerings, too. We had trouble choosing but ended up trying a rose and later a sparkling wine that was so distinct... not sweet. - The menus are dreamy. This is a special occasion place. The highlight for me was the shrimp head that came with our appetizer--it was perfectly fried and incredibly tasty. The sea bass was interesting--it was delicious, but for some reason, it reminded me of airplane food, probably because the sea bass is above spinach and they shaped the potato into a ball form. Another excellent new restaurant just opened in Rockefeller Center, joining Lodi with a few more on the way later this year. This one is from the Frenchette team, and has some similar dishes, but mostly great new stuff to try. The Duck Bolognaise ($26), with housemade rigatoni is amazing to start, and the Salad Nicoise ($26) is a great lighter option. For mains, the Steak Haché ($32) is delicious (described by the server as being like the best hamburger patty you'll ever have), and make sure you ask for their incredible fries to go with whatever entrees you decide on. The Profiteroles ($16) for dessert are not to be missed. If it were more than just the two of us, I definitely would've ordered Les Mignardises ($66), a glorious multi-level platter with all kinds of beautiful sweets and petits fours. read more

My friend and I had a fantastic time at Le Rock last night (Friday). Although we didn't have a reservation, we got there as soon as they opened and were able to get seated at a table right away. It's a beautiful space, with the bar right at the entrance and the main dining room off to the side. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Our server was super knowledgeable and guided us through the menu and gave us great suggestions. We started with the complimentary Frenchette baguette and chose the cervelle de canut, their house-made cheese, to go with it. This was a great combo! Next, we shared the live scallop, which was super fresh and delicious! The seasonal agnolotti was also incredible. As our main, we shared the house-made saucisse au comté, which was very flavorful and comforting. Finally, we shared a few desserts, because being fans of the Frenchette team and dessert lovers in general, this is what we were most excited about. Our favorite one was the profiterole, definitely a must! It was the perfect combination - creamy, crunchy, and rich. Our drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic were yummy, too. We left feeling very satisfied, but could've probably gotten a couple more dishes if it hadn't been for our predetermined idea of eating all the desserts.
