I had a visitor in town who wanted to have steak, so I booked this flagship location on Park Ave, hoping for a nice dining experience. I'd been to this location years ago and it wasn't particularly memorable, but my client was keen to try it. Unfortunately, the porterhouse we ordered was cooked very unevenly and we weren't impressed at all. The mashed potatoes were tasty, though. The service was also slow and disconnected. One staff said they'd bring the dessert menu, but then, a while later, our server brought our check before we even had a chance to look at dessert options. The noise level was quite high and it wasn't the most refined experience. Considering the price of over $100 per person, I would recommend other steakhouses in the city.
Wolfgang's is a popular steakhouse that has been around awhile and is definitely one of the best ones I've been to. Like other popular steakhouses, the prices are not cheap but the good quality justifies them. We had their dry aged porterhouse which they sizzle in butter. The meat is very juicy and melts in your mouth. We shared a few sides as well, but they were nothing special. The meat is why everyone comes here. This Park Avenue location is their original location, and the decor here is a bit weird. The place has these very low cobblestone ceilings. There are newer and more modern looking steakhouses, but Wolfgang delivers a solid old school steakhouse experience.
Great location on Park Ave. decor and beautiful ceiling is old turn of the century subway tile feel. Traditional NY steakhouse fare. Been there done that. Porterhouse steak was cooked perfectly and had that unique "aged" flavor. Sides were top notch from lobster Mac and cheese to the grilled Mushrooms and Brussels spouts(best side!). Service was prompt, abrupt and as expected. Total steakhouse vibe. Had the key lime pie and Sholg (whipped cream) for desert (sholg, awesome, pie, pass!) Slice of key lime for $17? I think not again. Overall, as expected, expensive, and fast, we were in and out in about an hour. Lots of other places to try on our next trip. Good, not great.
This was really excellent. The porterhouse was pretty perfect and I even liked the creamed spinach, which is rare for me. The tartufo for dessert was also excellent.
Solid meal at the original Wolfgang's location on Park Avenue. Met a long time friend and we were promptly seated for our 6:30PM dinner reservation. Started out with a Caesar salad and shared a porterhouse for 2 cooked a perfect medium rare with potatoes. A glass of Daou Cabernet each accompanied our dinner. Bill came in around $150 each with tip.
I usually love Wolfgang's, but this location didn't quite live up to my past experiences. Maybe they were having an off day, since we came in for a late lunch on a Saturday. I started with an Old Fashioned that, unfortunately, was pretty poorly made. There were a few of us, so we shared several dishes. The bacon, wedge salad, and Caesar salads were all good, especially the wedge salad, which was probably the standout of the meal. We ordered the Cajun tomahawk to share, but it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. The German potatoes and creamed spinach on the side were both solid. Service was fine, not bad, but nothing memorable either. Overall, I'd give this visit a 3.5. I'm hoping this was just an off day, as I've had much better experiences at other Wolfgang's locations.
Had such a great time here. It's giving antique vibes due to the subway looking ceiling. It's definitely a little loud but still good for a date. Now the food 10/10! Ordered the Tomahawk with fires/onion rings and asparagus and some lovely wine. Service was also 10/10. Would come again for a big celebration.
I came here for a business lunch. I got their soup, which was a lobster bisque. It was perfect as it was a pretty cold and rainy day. For the entree, I got a filet with peppercorn sauce. I felt like it was decent, but also didn't stand out either. My colleague got a filet with mushroom sauce, but I don't think it came out in the right temperature
It was cool .. 1st time being at a Wolfgang location I came on a Monday after work. the service was great. Ralph took care of me at the bar. I had a ceasar salad with a jumbo shrimp cocktail. Both very standard but filling. I also had a lychee martini and a lemon drop. Be warned they make a pretty stiff drink lol all and all I had a pleasant time. Nothing to write home about food wise but if you want a chill old NY vibe this is a spot you can stop
Wanted to try different restaurant for steak in NYC. Looking from outside, theres lots of glass and wood in the dark, not sure if it closed til i noticed the downstairs. I Ordered rib eye and mash potatoes. It was very good. Steak was cooked well for a medium. Crabcake was very good full of meat. The juice from steak felt like gravy. I wanted to put the steak on the mash. Dk if I would come back, its very pricey but you got to put out money if you want good food.
Never disappoints! Service Food and Atmosphere are always impeccable and buzzing with that NYC energy. Classic and refined. This visit I got my usual Wedge Salad with the pork belly bacon and Roquefort dressing. Tender sea bass and my favorite mashed potatoes. Sat at the bar which is the best. Game 4 of the NBA finals. The energy was electric.
Loved the porterhouse for two. Had with a colleague. Also the bacon and Caesar salad . Had with a glass of house Cabernet I had some apple strudel but had to take it home. Dark ambiance but fitting for this Luger style steakhouse. Service was nice. Would come again at some point.
Fantastic steak. We got the porterhouse for 2 and ordered a side of mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes were good, and the wine was fantastic. Vibes were good but it was pretty noisy during dinner. The service was great. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving some food steak!
I try never to compare a place to another when reviewing, but it's essentially impossible not to evaluate Wolfgang's alongside Peter Luger's. By now, I'm sure you know the history. Wolfgang Zwiener left his position as the headwaiter at Peter Luger to found his namesake restaurant in 2004, basing the place (and some say improving) on the famed Brooklyn steakhouse's core principles. For better and for worse, there are similarities and differences between the two steakhouses. I'm going to give you three of each, because I don't have all day: Just Like Luger's: 1. The steak is why you're here. Although, the porterhouse for 13 is too much for 13 people (especially if you also get a few lamb chops, all the sides, and starters...which you should because they're delicious). You'll eat until you might actually vomit, and then you'll still need a doggie bag full of meat that you'll probably give to a random bartender later in the evening because he became your new best friend. 2. It's too expensive. You're going to drop substantially more on this meal than anyone probably should on one evening. But if you like steak, whiskey, red wine, and celebrating in a manly manner, it's a good choice. 3. The service is the right kind of rude, with plenty of good humor to offset it as long as you're not uptight. For example, if you ask for a group photo of your giant party of dudes, you'll get more than a few selfies of your waiter tossed into the mix. Unlike Luger's: 1. It's in Manhattan, instead of Brooklyn. Automatically a downgrade. 2. They take credit cards. Huge upgrade. 3. They will just chop up the onions, tomatoes, shrimp cocktail, and bacon and throw them all in one big salad if you can't be bothered to eat them separately. I like it. Upgrade. Especially since I find the tomatoes and onion to be a waste, generally. The strange thing is that after many visits to both over the last couple decades, Wolfgang's has been more consistent, and honestly, better overall. Nowadays, when I'm getting a bunch of guys together, I usually roll with Wolfgang's. read more

We ate here and all went well! Had the salmon and steak. We ordered sides of Brussels sprouts and lobster Mac and cheese. The bread did not seem very high quality as we just came from Europe, so it's hard to compare but all went well and had good leftovers. read more
Went to the Broadway location with a party of 10 on Saturday night. The restaurant was clean and looked beautiful. Lots of entrees and sides ordered. thought prices were a little heavy and there were only a handful of seafood options for entrees. the $20 sides and $17 baked potato seemed excessive in price. The Lobster Mac did have large chunks of lobster but was watery instead or the creamy texture you seek when ordering this. My mozzarella and tomato salad had only two slices of tomato and very little balsamic. I was really disappointed with my choices. I tried my friend's crab cake and that was a winning appetizer. Everyone who ordered steak said their steaks arrived perfectly which is important at a steakhouse. Personal pet piece of mine is when sodas are served in tiny miniature glass bottles. I ordered one and then stuck with water. Service was good but the drinks, that were $36 each were being brought out anytime someone ran low which lead to some of our party being over served or left with drinks they would not have opted to order at the end of the night. read more

Best steak I've ever had!! Although this was my first higher end steakhouse experience, as a steak lover, I can definitely say this exceeded expectations. Got the porterhouse steak for 2 ~$70 per person was a bit pricey but the portion size is actually so generous and I cannot emphasize how perfectly cooked and flavorful and juicy it was. Got the potatoes as well which were a little burnt on the edges but still so so good and added a nice crunch to the soft potatoes. Perfect date night treat yourself moment. Forever holds a special place in my heart. Definitely gets crowded later so definitely go early dinner time with reservation. Such a classy vibe and great service. read more

Came here with a party of 7 and overall had a great experience. We ordered both the Tomahawk and Porterhouse steaks to share, along with a solid spread of sides and apps. The Tomahawk steak was easily the star of the meal -- incredibly tender, buttery, and flavorful. It practically melted in the mouth and had that perfect char on the outside. If you're going, this is the cut to get. The Porterhouse, on the other hand, didn't quite live up to the same standard -- still decent, but lacked the depth and richness of the Tomahawk. For appetizers, we kept it classic with the thick-cut bacon (delicious, as expected) and tomato & onion salad, which was fresh and well-seasoned. On the sides, the mashed potatoes were creamy, fries were crisp, onion rings were golden and crunchy, and the creamed spinach added a nice touch of richness. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the old-school steakhouse vibe added to the experience. Overall, a great spot for a celebratory meal -- just make sure you don't skip the Tomahawk! read more
Celebrated my 40th Birthday at Wolfgang's. I would say I had a so-so experience. I had a 8:30PM reservation, but when I arrived I was told it was going to be a wait time. I wound up waiting about 20 minutes or so. Which was a little annoying and to further frustrate things was it's very loud there, which is almost standard at most NYC steakhouses, but the manager told the hostess that the table was ready, but since she was so busy applying lipstick and chatting with the other hostess, I had to stand there and wait even longer, when it wasn't necessary. Now, onto to the good part. After we were seated we seemingly got two servers because it was two different guys coming over to assist. They were extremely friendly and cordial. I did not want steak, but did end up having some of the Porterhouse steak, which was pretty good, but I actually was in the mood for Salmon. The Salmon was a little bland, but more importantly, didn't come with any accompaniments. I've been to many steakhouses which provided vegetables, at the minimum with it. I would have still ordered spinach and mashed potatoes but still found it awkward for nothing to come on the player aside from lemon. I know several of my criticisms make it seem like I had a bad experience, but overall I would say it was good. I appreciated the severs constantly checking on the table and singing Happy Birthday. I'm not sure if I would return but I definitely did enjoy my birthday! Cheers to 40! read more

I had dinner at the bar on a Friday night and the experience was exceptional. Great bartender and drinks. I had a NY strip and a baked potato. The steak was as good as I have ever had. 100% recommend. For the quality of food and drinks this place is a good value. read more

4.3 / 5.0 Wolfgang's Steakhouse first restaurant. Stylish space with table seating and a BAR counter. There are about 7 slices of meat for one person,I recommend sharing various parts of the meat with everyone. And,I recommend the side dish of mashed potatoes and cream spinach to go with it! They wrapped up what we couldn't finish with takeout. It was delicious even when I went home and re-cooked it! The staff was friendly and made me feel comfortable eating there. What I ordered was: ・PRIME NY SIRLOIN STEAK ・RIBEYE STEAK ・MASHED POTATOES ・SPINACH CREAMED ・CHEESECAKE ・ICED COFFE read more
Ok. This might not be my first review of this place. Make a reservation. The place is busy. Went with my college buddies. Its a steak joint. So its mostly guys. We got a bunch of cocktails. One piece of bacon. One shrimp. One lamb chop. Perfect appetizer selection. Steak for 6. 3 X 2. Hash browns and spinach. Were 7 people. Zero leftovers. Nyc steakhouse prices. Service was great read more
Came in a large group of 17, so got to try quite a few things. Overall, the steak was worth the price although the sides and desserts were more lackluster. Started off with complimentary bread and butter which were standard too. I got the porterhouse for 3, medium rare, and it was indeed cooked medium rare. The sear was nicely seasoned but still tender in the middle, and I appreciated their slightly sweet tomato sauce that are bottled. I didn't realize porterhouse comes with both filet and sirloin pieces before. I got a bottle of Australian Shiraz ($70ish) that I'd get again. Tried the Brussel sprouts (good), mash potatoes (I thought okay, but others thought it tasted like from a box), sauteed spinach (not as creamy and flavorful as others like Smith and Wollensky), and onion rings (alright). None of the desserts are housemade and most come with a huge amount of homemade whip cream. The pecan pie was the best of what we got. Tried also the cheesecake (tasted alternatively artificial and alright), creme brulee (too much of a citrus taste for me), and key lime pie (more of a lemon flavor). read more
Decent NY steak house option. Pretty cosy setting... we got there early on a weekday, and it was already quite packed. Ordered the porterhouse for 2. It was actually cooked well (perfect medium rare), although too much butter for my liking. Nice dry aged flavor. It was super rich likely due to the butter and my friend & I were drinking a lot of water after. Canadian bacon appetizer was underwhelming. Lugers is significantly better, and so this is a hard pass for me. Ordered brussel sprouts and fries for sides, and thought that both were really good. I felt that the prices were reasonable for a NY steakhouse. Only let down was the service. Definitely got a feeling that they were trying to rush us through. Get much better service at basically any other steak house that I've been to. read more

A bit disappointing. Although this has been one of my favorite places to go, I have to admit that I was a little disappointed by the service at the bar. My aunt simply asked if they could warm up the bread and was told no that's the way it comes out... Cold. I was actually shocked. I've been to this place so many times and I've not had a bad experience until today, but I think Larry could've handled that situation a lot differently. The cocktails were good although I was kind of surprised didn't ask if I wanted blue cheese stuffed olives with my dirty martini. The crabcake and the lobster mac & cheese was so so. Not a tremendous amount of flavor there especially for the mac & cheese. Not a lot of lobster either Oh well... Luckily, there's so many amazing steakhouses in the city that it's not a big deal to cross this one off the list read more
