Have been to Cuerno a few times now and really love the food! They start you with some really good chips and dips with the most fabulous homemade dips. For tacos we love the steak taco, and then bone marrow ones as well. They have really good steaks along with sides like the corn and mashed potatoes. Cuerno was really impressive. You would never think, that from looking at the restaurant from the outside, you would experience what it presents. However the interior has high ceilings, the decor is tasteful, and each sitting location is comfortably separated from other patrons. The service was very slow, but I'm going to chalk that up to their very busy lunch crowd. I started with, arguably, the best tasting Mocktail I have ever enjoyed. It was called, Brisas de Jamaica (Hibiscus, agave, lemon soda). This drink had the optimal amount of sweetness, each sip was refreshing, and the hibiscus/salt rim was amazing. The complimentary chips and sauces were much appreciated. I've never had this many choices of sauces and they went from sweet to spicy. We dined from their prix-fixe lunch menu and it was the perfect choice. We chose the following: Ceviche Regio (Fresh Halibut, serrano, leche de tigre, agave honey, crispy chicharron, charred tostado), Verduras al Grill (Charred seasonal vegetables, house dressing), Salmon al Piquin (Grilled Salmon, snap peas, roasted onion, rice, mostaza piquin salsa), Camarones al Ajillo (Grilled U/8 shrimp, roasted zucchini, rice, garlic, chile guajillo). The Ceviche was pleasantly spicy, the Salmon didn't require a knife to cut through, and the shrimp were large and well seasoned. Recommendations- Tacos Callejeros, Puré de Papa, Sombrerita I was at this Mexican-inspired steakhouse with a group of others a while ago. For how big the place was, the inside was jam-packed, so it was quite loud. Our table was in a slightly dark area, so my photos didn't come out particularly well, but oh well. The food overall was good, but I preferred the steaks and especially the atmosphere at the newer, quieter Amasa. To drink, I went with the Sombrerita for $22, with Manojo mezcal, Flor de Azar (a triple sec), jamaica, and lime. The drink had a fun presentation, with a tiny sombrero, a hibiscus rim, and sea salt. The flavor was also nice, with a good amount of smoke from the mezcal along with some citrus and a light floral note. I would recommend it. For food, two of us split a bunch of dishes, and once we all ordered, they gave us some chips as well as a few different salsas. The salsas ranged from mild to one with a pleasant kick, with my favorite being, I believe, a salsa matcha, as it was nice and smoky. It was a good mixture and a nice way to start the meal. Our shared appetizer was my favorite bite of the night, the $32 Tacos Callejeros, consisting of four tacos made with a butcher's choice of premium cuts, fresh cilantro, and onion, with some salsa verde on the plate as well. The meat on the tacos was juicy and beefy, and the tacos themselves were a bit thicker than normal, which I was fine with, as they probably would have fallen apart otherwise. The salsa verde helped reduce the richness and added more spice. Outside of it obviously being messy, this was delicious, and I would recommend it. Our main dish was the Rib Eye con Tuétano, a ribeye norteño-style with pepper, garlic, bone marrow, and salsa piquín limón. They offer either a 16 oz version for $89 or a 28 oz version for $139, and as we were splitting, we got the latter. Along with some other dishes, this had a tableside presentation with the roasted bone marrow scraped over the steak. We ordered it medium rare, but we both found it a little too rare, which made the steak a tad chewy and tough. For that reason, the best part of the steak was not the meat itself, but rather the spice mixture, which was a bit disappointing. Possibly, we caught them on a bad night, as others enjoyed their entrees. We otherwise got two side dishes, which were both $15. The Puré de Papa, or potato with Grana Padano, truffle, and crema de rancho, was better than expected. I've never been a huge fan of truffle oil, but they didn't overdo it, and the potatoes had a nice texture. The weaker one was their take on Esquites, consisting of charcoal-grilled corn, olive oil, lemon, butter, and Grana Padano. It was a bit soupy, which made it closer to some of the carts I've been to, and the flavor was only just OK as well, as I wish it had a bit more heat, and it lacked a bit of citrus. Overall, the sides were decent, and the price was good for a steakhouse. If I were to come back here, I would get a different entree, such as the barbacoa or short rib. I loved the taco and drink, found one appetizer good, and the steak was unfortunately a bit tough and chewy. I'm still going to leave a 4, as I think we caught them on a bad day. read more

We were excited that Cuerno was opening in NYC, but a little concerned. In general, we have found that incredible Mexican upscale restaurants that expand in the US lose some of their magic as it's very difficult to replicate the Mexican dining experience in the states. Cuerno in MTY is in this gorgeous area of SPGG and has the best Arracherra I've ever had in my life - not even debatable. The NYC Arracherra felt like a different cut of meat (i dunno, possibly flank and was oversalted) and was much chewier and didn't match the MTY version. That said, it was fine. One other small difference is in MX it's customary to bring out tortillas with the dish while they looked at us a little strange when we asked for tortillas! Anyway, I did think the ribeye taco was excellent - not quite La Buena Barra in MX or Este in ATX but it was def a must have there for sure. The papa asada was also pretty good and although it was a bit more americanized/upscale instead of the delicious mess in tinfoil that is more traditional, I get it and enjoyed it very much. Chips and tortillas were all good and the decor of Cuerno is beautiful! Tip - make sure to sit on the main level as the basement is not the same vibe at all. Food presentation was very pretty of course! Service was okay, but much more disconnected and that is always the largest difference between the MX & US versions. While I am not a fan of the midtown area (50/6th) I can see how it's very convenient for tons of folks and def attracts more of an after work crowd / biz dinners. Hard to recommend as it's not really indicative of the group's MX restaurants. They're Japanese restaurant Ryoshi is really good and so is Mochomos. read more

This is not your traditional NYC steakhouse. We wanted to try something new and we were not disappointed. Our waiter was excellent and very knowledgeable of the menu and flavor combinations. Two days have passed and I still find myself missing the salty crust on the steak. Amazing flavor with the tenderness of the meat. I came here for my husband birthday and we were both wowed by what a great experience we had. The restaurant itself it's beautiful. After we were seated they brought us tortilla chips with 5 different salsas to enjoy. All of the salsas were super flavorful and went from non spicy to spicy. I ordered a margarita and it was good, not super strong but flavorful. We started with an order of guacamole and carnitas tacos with squid ink tortillas. Loved both appetizers. For my entree I got the skirt steak with bone marrow made table side and my husband for the filet with esquites. Both dishes were amazing and just delicious. Cuerno had been on my list for a while, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The restaurant has a beautiful upscale atmosphere that's perfect for a date night or special occasion, and the service was excellent from start to finish. We started with the complimentary chips and four different salsas, then ordered the Guacamole, Chicharrón de Pulpo, and Coliflor Trufa Habanero. The biggest surprise of the night was easily the cauliflower. I never expected a cauliflower dish to be one of my favorites, but the smoky, truffle, and habanero flavors worked so well together. It's an absolute must-order. For our mains, we shared the 52 oz Tomahawk, Taco Taquero, and the Beef Short Rib. Without a doubt, the Taco Taquero was the best dish of the night. The tableside preparation with the fire-roasted bone marrow made it such a fun experience, and the flavor was incredible. The tomahawk was cooked perfectly, and the short rib was fall-apart tender with amazing flavor. To finish, we had the Pastel de Campechanas, which was unlike any dessert I've had before. Overall, every dish was memorable, and although Cuerno is definitely a splurge, it's well worth it for a special occasion. We'll definitely be back! read more

This place is great! Located in midtown, this is a go-to corporate lunch spot. The prix fixe lunch menu is pretty affordable at $39. I've been here twice in the last week, and it was great both times! The service was quick, and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. They also have outdoor seating. The food was excellent! I came here during my three-day stay in NYC. I was recommended this place by a friend, and I am so glad I came. I was exhausted from walking around NYC and the food here satisfied my appetite. First off, the service was wonderful. Our server Alberto was so welcoming and kind. He made sure we had everything we needed. Secondly, the restaurant itself is beautiful. The seats were so comfortable I felt like I could fall asleep right there! And of course, most importantly, the food was filling and tasty. So, when searching for the best Mexican restaurant, Cuerno came up frequently. High ceilings, beautiful interior, comfortable seats, and so much more. Seated at a huge round table that could fit 3 more, our friendly server came over and we ordered some cocktails. Well, I had a beautiful Sparkling Rose from Mexico----I know! Mexico makes some really nice wines:) My husband had the classic Margarita to celebrate our Anniversary and Cinco de Mayo. Let me just tell you the food was probably one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. It is also a Steakhouse too. To start, they bring over a few salsa dips along with thier Homemade chips. Some were better than others as well as the heat meter (some more mild than others), but I personally loved most of them if not all. Their Guacomole is amazing! We didn't have reservations, so we were seated downstairs, which isn't as nice as the upstairs area--but it was still fine for a casual night out. The food and service were both great. I was a bit underwhelmed here. The guacamole and broccoli appetizers were bland, and the steak in the tacos (both taco callejeras and taco richi) was dry. The cauliflower and hamachi were amazing. We got too full of appetizers to try any of the steak entrees, so maybe that would've been better. We did try each of the four desserts, three of which I loved. The pastel de campechanas was my favorite, and the mango and vanilla ice cream were also good. The chocolate cake was a bit dry though. One of the best dinners I've had in a long time. My complaints are small and nitpicking because I don't always trust reviews that are too positive. First they start you off with some complimentary chips with a flight of salsas that knocked my socks off. And let me say, I've had chips all over, from here to Mexico, from street carts to Michelin-starred restaurants. The chips at Cuerno are the best I've ever had. Maybe because we ordered drinks from the menu, not sure, but my wife was disappointed she didn't get to try the frozen margs that other tables were getting. My wife ordered a hibiscus margarita and I ordered the tamalindo, which I expected to have more tamarindo flavor, so I was a little disappointed with mine. My wife's marg was strong but tasty. FOOD: We started with the cauliflower and Tacos Callejeros. My wife was scared seeing habanero-truffle on the menu, but the cauliflower was not spicy at all. It is as delicious as everyone says, but my wife isn't the biggest fan of charcoal flavor, so she felt it overpowered the dish a bit. I enjoyed it with no complaints. The Tacos Callejeros were an unexpected hit. I'm not sure what I expected, but these tacos had a rich beef-stew flavor that was very homey and comforting. The salsa verde, which my wife was hesitant about, tasted so good that she was spooning it onto her tacos. For our main, we shared the Rib Eye a la Sal, and it was on par with some of the best steakhouses we've tried. The esquites were great. I'm a big fan of esquites, and it's tough to elevate this dish, but there was a good amount of flavor throughout. I just wish there had been a tiny bit more kick. The mashed potatoes were... mashed. What can one say? They were good. Service was okay. Staff was attentive, and our server had a really chill vibe that we appreciated. I just wish we had received those comp drinks like everyone else around us, because that would've made the dinner a full five stars for us. It's rare that I want to return to a restaurant in NYC. There are just so many to try that I usually prefer trying a new spot, even after a great dinner. But with Cuerno, I was already planning my next visit as soon as I started getting full. Cuerno easily qualifies for my personal restaurant hall of fame. My dinner there was special there in every way. For starters, it was a special occasion, so that already upped the ante and the energy. But across the board, be it drinks, food, service, ambiance, innovation, attention to detail -- you name it -- Cuerno is easily five stars and then some. Two things to know about me are that I don't like going to midtown and don't particularly enjoy eating steak. Yet here I am, raving about a steakhouse in midtown. If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. One of the reasons I liked Cuerno is because it's very different than your traditional steakhouse experience. It's a steakhouse in that they serve steak, but it is otherwise a northern Mexican restaurant with an unbelievable and dazzling array of options, flavors, and preparations -- some things you've probably tried at other Mexican restaurants, others that you likely haven't. You can of course find your vodka martini and a side of potatoes if you must, but I'd encourage you to get creative instead. We came here at 8:30 on a Saturday night for my partner's birthday. We were a party of six, so we were seated at a corner booth that was quite spacious rather than a table/high top. It was perhaps a bit too big for us, but it ended up being a fun experience because there was a lazy Susan in the middle to facilitate sharing, which of course we planned to do a lot of. The decor, as I'm sure you've read elsewhere, is stunning. The space is beautiful and very well thought out -- it satisfies aspects of the midtown aesthetic while weaving in design elements that create interest and character. Upscale and refined with none of the stuffiness. To start, we of course got the oft discussed complimentary frozen margs and chips/salsa sampler. The margs were solid, the salsa flight was a very exciting preview of the amazing meal to come. I wish they had given us more chips. That said, a few of us were dripping the last of it on our knifes to eat straight by the end of the meal to get every last drop of goodness. Drink-wise, I stuck with cocktails though most others in our party had at least one glass of wine, if for no other reason than to drink out of the comically massive wine glasses they have here. I'm not a red wine gal so I did not partake, and instead tried the La Chispa (400 Conejos Mezcal, Punt E Mes, Primo), a delicious mezcal negroni variation. Some of us also tried the Espresso Martini (Vodka, Borgheti, Demerara, espresso) with dessert, which was solid. I also tried sips of the Sombrerita (Manojo Mezcal, Flor de Azar jamaica, lime) and Guayaba en Llamas (Patrón Reposado, Sweet Vermouth, creme de cacao, guava) thanks to the generosity of my friends and both were great -- I'd say the Guayaba and Llamas was more memorable/interesting though. Due to my limited epicurean vocabulary and the Yelp character limit, I can't properly delve into everything we tried, but I will tell you that everything was exceptional. Grades are A+ to A++++ times infinity for all. I'll add a few notes for each, below: Crudo de Hamachi (Thinly-sliced yellowtail hamachi, chile chiltepín, salsa rasurada): Beautifully presented/fresh/great complement to some of the heavier, warmer dishes Brócoli Asado (Roasted broccoli, spiced herb emulsion, Grana Padano, salsa macha): Presented as two broccoli crowns and cut up at the table because who doesn't love a show? A flavorful, worthy side. Coliflor Trufa Habanero (Charcoal-roasted cauliflower, pistachio, habanero-truffle emulsion, Grana Padano): We all agreed that this is a top veggie dish of all time and definitely our favorite of the night. Probably the only time cauliflower will be one of the most memorable parts of your meal. Frijoles con Veneno (Fried beans, ''Asado de Boda'' a rich northern-style pork stew): Props to the friend who insisted we get this. Neither my partner nor I like beans much but the preparation with the pork which was just next-level. Arrachera Norteña (Norteño-style outside skirt steak, chiltepin butter, garlic chips, avocado salsa): This was the only steak I tried and it was pretty unbelievable. Insanely flavorful. Rib Eye con Tuétano (Ribeye norteño-style, pepper, garlic, bone marrow, salsa piquín limón): I don't do bone marrow but if you want to ball out with decadence, this is a no-brainer. Pescado Zarandeado (Grilled whole branzino, red & green adobo, brussels sprouts, Mexican herbs): We were on the fence and I'm glad we went for it. The adobo was fantastic and enhanced the presentation as much as it did the flavor. Pulpo a las Brasas (Grilled Mayan octopus, heirloom potatoes, chipotle salsa): Cooked and seasoned beautifully. Verduras al Grill (Charcoal-roasted seasonal vegetables, house dressing): Nice to get a medley, you try a bit of everything. The broccoli and cauliflower were better but this was still solid. Great drinks. Great location and hustling and bustling with fashionistas and high end out of towners. Staff were very eager to please and take time to explain anything and everything though they tended to stear us towards the more "gringo" items (I mean we are gringo) but it's important to go with your gut (literally) when making selections at a new destination. Never had bone marrow incorporated in my tacos and they were lux (did they need to be cut up in front of me? Meh). Salsitas and chips were as different and wonderful as the next (fave was spicy jalapeño one). Drinks were great from frozen mango marg to crisp rose. Branzino was another highlight. Dessert off menu choc cake was great. Other selections didn't inspire. Will be back. read more

Cuernos is absolutely stunning. From the moment you walk in, the space feels upscale, modern, and vibrant--perfect for a night out, a celebration, or a long dinner with friends. The margaritas are excellent--well balanced, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. To start, we had chips and salsa, followed by the bone marrow tacos, which are prepared tableside. These were rich, fatty, and incredibly flavorful--definitely a must-order. For the main course, we went with the arrachera norteña, a skirt steak cooked to perfection and packed with seasoning. Juicy, tender, and boldly flavored--exactly how a steak should be done. Dessert was just as impressive. The pastel de campechanas and chocolate dessert were outstanding. These are massive portions, so they're definitely meant to be shared, but trust me--you won't want to skip them. Finish the night with a great bottle of wine, and you've got yourself an excellent dining experience. Beautiful space, strong drinks, and food that delivers across the board. But the main attraction--the food Nothing was prepared as if they were sides or mere appetizers, everything on the menu is fantastic in their own right. I've never know Cauliflower can have textures more than soggy, the way they singed the outer layers and then seasoned it to perfection One would think mashed potato is just what it is, but this restaurant elevated it to a different level, how does it give it the magical flavor that it gets with the texture of both smooth and crusty on top. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences we've had, and that says a lot considering we've been here 6 times! After being seated, we waited while table after table, people who arrived after us, were served their appetizers first. We sat there for 50 minutes before ours finally showed up. By then, our patience was already gone. Our entrées? They never came at all. Not once did our waiter offer a genuine apology or seem to care that we had been completely ignored. The lack of urgency and total indifference made the situation even more infuriating. To make matters worse, after we sent the appetizer back, management brought the same appetizer back to the table and told us it was "complimentary," even though we clearly said we didn't want it anymore. That wasn't a solution. It was an insult. We waited another 10 minutes with no food, no updates, and no accountability, and finally walked out. Poor service happens, but this was blatant neglect and terrible management. We are extremely disappointed and will not be returning. There are plenty of restaurants that value their customers, this is not one of them. read more
