We had the Guacamole and Ceviche to start and then fish tacos and Frida bowl for mains. All were pretty good, and large portions. Excellent and friendly service. Some of the best Mexican food in the city! The flavors are excellent and the portion sizes are just perfect - not too little, not too much. The staff was superb as well! VERY friendly and willing to explain how a certain dish is cooked and what's exactly in it. My group was seated in a semi-private area that was both intimate, yet still somewhat part of the liveliness of the main dining area. We'll definitely return when we're in the area. read more

Food and waitress were good. My issue is with the bartender. I was there during happy hour, ordered a Moscow mule and margarita from the happy hour menu. the bartender asked what kind of vodka and tequila and listed the ones he had. I chose which ones, he did not tell me that they wouldn't be considered part of the happy hour special and then when I got my bill, my drinks were at least double the happy hour price. The right and smart thing to do would be to tell the people this beforehand in the future. read more

We've had good experiences at other Peruvian fusion restaurants and Frida continued that trend. First the staff: everyone was so friendly, smiling, gracious and helpful. The decor was tasteful and comfortable, an effort had been made. And the food was fabulous. We weren't overly hungry so we shared. First the guacamole which was served in a stone bowl topped with a delicious pico de gallo. We then shared the Frida salad which was also yum. Maybe a little heavy on the dressing but that's a very minor critique. Finally, we had the Birria Tacos. Our server suggested we add a fourth taco so we'd each get two. A great and helpful hint. My wife said she probably wouldn't eat a second until after her first disappeared in no time. We will definitely keep Frida in our midtown rotation going forward. read more

Frida's is a cute little restaurant within walking distance from the United Nations (we had just taken a tour there). My friend and I were seated at a cozy table for two. As we were deciding what to order from the menu, I heard another customer ask for the lunch menu. So, I did too. I always wonder why restaurants only give you one menu if they have multiples. And we were there at the peak lunchtime, so it doesn't make any sense to me why they wouldn't automatically give customers their lunch menu. The lunch menu consisted of entrees with a side. I chose the vegan tacos with guacamole and chips. Both were delicious! I had never tasted caramelized onions on top of guac before, and it was an amazing flavor combination! I appreciate that they offer vegan tacos. My friend also ordered tacos (non-vegan), and she was disappointed that they were sitting in a pool of oil. I also had ordered a Coke, but the server never stopped by to check if I wanted a refill. Sadly, he was not very attentive, which was surprising because the restaurant wasn't that busy. Dined here on a Sunday evening after seeing a matinee show. The ambiance and service was 10/10. I had the birria tacos and my daughter had Baja tacos. My tacos were good but not amazing. Yucca fries were amazing though. For dessert we enjoyed the churros - $18 but I would order them again so good!!. No liquor and we spent $100 before tip. The live music was also excellent. Amazing experience at Frida Midtown! We had the ribeye, fish tacos, Caesar salad, and guacamole everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. 4.5 stars overall for the service and delicious food. Our Server Armando is hospitable and efficient as always. He seems to be the best server and likely the server in the sections I've dined in. Each visit, I've had him wait on my table so lucky me. There's plenty of staffers around to clean, clear, and provide support for him so this place is well managed given the crowds. Bar scene and dining scene are both lively and delightful. Great spot for after work drinks and the food, is elevated Mexican comfort food with Peruvian influences. Every dish here is reimagined to bring more flavors to the palette. They offer daily happy hour drinks and the bar seating area is a fun spot to watch the mixologist at work. I sat there for a bit waiting on a friend pre-dinner and it was so entertaining to watch. Menu - oh so much to try! The duck and birria tacos are very popular. The pulpo asado is a must try. I was really excited to try Frida because I love Mexican food and I love Peruvian food. Here is how it went with the food: - Esquites: this was not the best start. I love esquites but these had truffle sauce on them and it just didn't work. I am not one of those people who don't like truffle flavor. I really do, in fact I ordered their truffle fries. It just doesn't work with the esquites for me... - Enchiladas- the enchiladas are really good. We got the green sauce and it was so flavorful. - truffle Parmesan fries- these were pretty good - tres leches- not my favorite unfortunately...I love tres leches normally but I found the cake to be quite dry. There was some milk around the plate that you could soak up the cake in to get the full tres leches experience but I generally expect a well soaked cake. One major disappointment was that the white fish ceviche is made of tilapia. I don't go near tilapia and it is certainly not a fish I would expect in a ceviche at a high end restaurant. I had to skip the ceviche. I think this place has all the right ideas and the menu looks good but the execution needs some work. The service was okay. The ambiance was okay too. Dined here for dinner this evening during my work trip to New York today and it was absolutely delicious. First off, the customer service was outstanding! Our server was very knowledgeable, extremely friendly and gave excellent recommendations! Kudos to him. We stopped in at 6 PM, as it gradually filled up, the ambiance transformed, buzzing with lively chatter and hungry guests! We started with the guacamole and margaritas which were both bursting with flavorful goodness, which let me know our entrées were going to be a hit! I had the Loma Saltado and a side of plantains. My steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce added an extra layer of deliciousness, elevating the dish. For dessert I had the Tres leches; it was truly decadent. I had great service from Diana and pardo the best bar tenders. First I sat at the bar with no reservations. They were very welcoming and friendly, gave me the menu. They started with water which they were very observant with and asked me how my drink was which was different because most bars never ask you about how the drinks are. After ordering my starter which was the pulpo very tender and well cooked for squid the sauces they had it paired with was very flavorful and the mashed potatoes was a nice touch. Next I ordered my main dish which was the rich dish since I am Peruvian myself I wanted it be authentic and it was better actually. I've been to one other Peruvian restaurant which sucked. But since this restaurant being a fusion of both Mexican and Peruvian they did a great job I would give it a 9 out of ten. For being Hispanic I would have loved more of some spice. I also ordered drinks my first was the pisco sour which they serve the traditional way and it was very tasty. After I got the bourbon autumn whip one of the bartenders made a twist of it and it was very delicious and well constructed. After I ordered a side the Yucka fries very well cooked not hard or over done which a lot of restaurants tend to do. I would give it a 9. After I got the flan which was very disappointing to much milk which lacked the authenticity of the dessert. But I ordered the dessert cocktail which I had the manager order for me and it was very refreshing after the meal. It was very Bridgeton inspired. Delicious food is beautifully plated at this Mexican Peruvian restaurant! Since it was a quiet night, the hostess seated us at a larger table where we could face the bar and enjoy the colorful artwork in the room. We started with the Ceviche Tostada which was generously piled tuna tarta and shrimp on a thin crispy tostada, with shaved beets and jalapeño peppers, and avocado slices decorating the food. The Duck mole was good with layers of flavor and just a hint of heat. The Mahi Mahi was another delicious work of art. Never one to not look at the desert menu, the Flan topped with expresso milk is reason enough to visit this beautiful restaurant again. A minor criticism on the margarita, Frida is not alone, is that I wish they would have used fresh lime juice in the drink, but otherwise a very good dining experience. read more

We started with guacamole and added pineapple - loved that they offer different fruit options. My friend and I shared the steak fajitas, which were phenomenal. They came sizzling with the cheese and onions already melting together - so unique! They only give you three tortillas, so we asked for more, and we got a side of rice, which we thought might be included. Overall, everything was delicious. For entrees, our group ordered the tacos (Birria, mar y Tierra, and duck), frida salad with chicken, Caesar salad with chicken, Birria ramen and enchiladas. There were no complaints at the table! Main drawback on Friday at 7:30 pm was the loud singer that was screaming over the stereo into a mic...Music was actually fun ( if you're a 40 to 50 something-year-old who loves 80s and 90s ) and there were a bunch of tipsy people dancing right near the bar. Frida has become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. They take pride in their presentation and it is evident in every area (outdoor seating, service, wall decor, food, and even the restrooms). My Coconut Margarita was incredible. The perfect blend of sweetness and tequila made every drop amazing and enjoyable. We started with the Pulpo Asado (Octopus). It came on a bed of mash potatoes, was nice and firm, and the dipping sauces complemented every bite. The Watermelon Salad was a work of art. The rocoto orange dressing placed this dish into the stratosphere. So glad that I ordered it and highly recommended. Our entrees were all exquisite. The Birria Tacos were flavorful, had a spicy dipping sauce, and a savory birria broth that made this selection incredible. The Birria Ramen was just as good as the photo that I've presented. Each ingredient came together to create unique explosions of flavor and makes this another recommended item. The sides were just as impressive as the entrees. We ordered the Queso Fresco (Fresh Cheese) Sweet Plantains and Yuca (Casava) Fries. Both... amazing. Don't hesitate to come to Frida and enjoy modern cuisine at its finest. read more

I came with a large group for an event on a Monday night so we had the bottom private room booked out. The decorations were very charming and it was a nice, comfy space. The only issue of the room was probably just the noise level. The upstairs area noise really travelled down to the private room so we had to keep the door closed the whole time. Also, the bathrooms are right outside our room so you would get people walking down and looking into the room if you don't close the door. Service was very great the whole time. All of the servers were efficient and friendly. There was barely any wait time anytime you asked for something. Our food came as a pre fixe option. For our appetizers we shared: GUACAMOLE: Really great guac and light tortilla chips. Nice starter. JALEITA: These were deep fried calamari, shrimp, fish and yucca fries. Nice platter and well fried. The sauces it came with were yummy as well. DRUNKEN MUSSELS: I was not so much a fan of this dish. Though the mussels were cooked well, the flavoring wasn't really too my liking. It was a bit cinnammon-y which was surprising. FRIDA SALAD: Really great dressing and a good amount. The ingredients together felt like esquite on lettuce. For my main I ordered the: STEAK ENCHILADAS WITH GREEN SAUCE: The enchilada was stuffed with juicy, flavorful, shredded beef. The portion is a bit small though. However, they really do drench it in verde sauce, crema and a good amount of sliced avocado. It also comes with a side of pickled red onions, rice and beans. The red onions were great and complemented the enchiladas very well. The rice and beans were mediocre. The rice had a strange overly refried oil after taste and the beans were not my favorite either. For dessert I ordered: FLAN: Flavor of the flan was good. It came drenched with syrup so was a bit on the sweeter side but that's how I like my desserts. It also came topped with some juicy fruits as well. All in all, although there were a few components of my food that I was not the biggest fan of; the space, other items and service really made it a memorable experience. read more

For midtown east, this place is very hip and modern, like a place you would find downtown. Being that it's called Frida Midtown it's safe to assume they have another location somewhere but didn't do a deep dive on the subject. Reservation was pretty easy to get, for a Thursday night, 7:15. The place was full, and had a buzzy vibe. We started with a round of cocktails. Can't remember what my friend got but I got the user- interactive Lychee Pea Martini. I enjoyed popping the bubble on that thing and it was quite good. We started with the Guac and Esquites, we loved the guacamole, and my friend loved her app. I thoroughly enjoyed the Birria Tijuana Style Tacos, and my friend liked the Chicken con Mole. And last but not least, we were able to manage to squeeze into our stomachs the flan which we both loved. If you're looking for a happening place with good food and loud convo, then come here.
