Talavera is a great spot to go for some tasty Mexican food. In my opinion, Mexican is one of the more difficult restaurants to find where the food tastes good and I was pleasantly surprised at Talavera. What I ordered: ribeye tacos, arabes tacos, side of plantains, guacamole, molotes. All of it was great!! I appreciated that the chips were warm when they were served and that the guacamole was fresh. Additionally, I've never had empanadas with plantain inside but it's such a nice treat especially as I'm a plantain enthusiast. As far as the drinks I had the frozen tamarind margarita, which was really good: not too sweet and refreshing. They were also kind enough to let us get a shot glass of the guava margarita to taste and this was just as good, if not better. We visited this past Friday where they offer deal of 50% off most tacos (doesn't include the brisket or the duck tacos) and that made this even better. I came here with a crew of 6. Overall it was a pretty good experience for brunch. The great: The steak n eggs was exciting... amazingly well presented with terrific flavor. The good: - Service was kind and helpful. - I really liked the ambiance... definitely felt like a classy and clean Mexican restaurant, but it wasn't tacky. Why it didn't get 5 stars. The staff was terrific, but they were constantly trying to sell us on stuff, events, more food, and etc. I felt like I was at McDonalds constantly being asked to supersize. Curious from the great reviews, I was hoping to eat some great food. We managed to get there in time for HH even though it was so cold and snowing. We were able to get seated at a table near the bar area since it was fairly empty. We ordered a margarita and a Pasion Caliente. The margarita was good, but I've had better...I didn't care for the other drink. I also had a Tamarind frozen margarita later and that was surprisingly tasty but none of the drinks were really strong. We tried the chicharron appetizer which was different than what I saw online. It came in a bowl and I thought it was really over-seasoned. It tasted like they mixed it with Asian spices, like chili oil or something..I didn't like it. We got 4 steak tacos and 4 fish tacos. It was advertised as half off all tacos but it was buy one get one so it turned out to be a lil too much food. The fish tacos were actually pretty good. Fried fish with slaw, hard to mess up but I did not care for the steak taco. They put a lot of cheese which wasn't necessary. This isn't Taco Bell .. cheese on steak? L simply saw steak tacos but didn't read the description.. I couldn't finish even one, cheese ruined it for me. L also got the carne asada. We liked the fingerling potatoes .. steak was fine. I do cook a great steak so for us, it wasn't anything special but much better than the tacos. We'd prefer it not sliced but at least there wasn't cheese on it. We ordered their Tres Leches. Their version is Tiramisu-ish...but it's just so dense, it wasn't bad but I expected more from the reviews. Still it was better than the steak tacos and it was really filling. It was so very good! I had the bone marrow tacos and also tried one of the short rib tacos. We also tried the refried beans with pork. We had guacamole and that corn appetizer. It was all just so good. Every single thing. Drinks were refreshing. I had some version of a Negroni and it hit the spot. The ambiance is festive and fun. Loved everything about it. The server knew one of my friend's husbands from the other day and she brought us all an extra sample shot after our meal. Thursday night, 5 adults and 2 toddlers under two - it's going to be fun! Let's start off with the restaurant interior. You walk in and there's the bar, which looked mighty inviting but alas, I'm here for the table. The dining room is fairly large, with optional private rooms in the back. The space had ambient lighting as the evening progressed. The bathrooms were nice and spacious and I never had to wait in line. We started off with drinks - the NA selection is pretty decent, as well as the cocktails. As for the food, we didn't hold back. We did this family style, where everyone shared plates. We started off with the Sweet corn, Guacamole, Blue fin tuna crudo, Pork belly chicharron, and the Caesar salad. My favorite was the pork belly chicharron, which was recommended to us by the server. The portions for the sweet corn and guac were smaller than I wouldve liked but tasty nonetheless, great for the kiddos. Caesar salad tasted buttery somehow, thus enjoyable. Tuna was good and light, definitely open to trying the other crudo options as well. For the entrees, we ordered Squash Blossom tacos , Ribeye tacos, Chamorro Carnitas, Carne Asada, and a Grilled Salmon Cruz. The squash blossom tacos was different than the usual vegetarian type tacos. I'm appearance, the squash was pureed and stuffed into a pepper shape tempura, wrapped with a soft taco tortilla. The carne asada was done medium and was pre-cut individual slices. I don't often cook steak at home, and definitely not in this style, so this was amazing to me. The ribeye tacos were a bit tougher but we'll seasoned. As for the Chamorro Carnitas, this was prob one of the best dishes. Not overly salted and all the meat can be picked off with the tongs provided - nothing left on the bone. Lastly desserts - for our table we got the Oreja' La Mode and the TiraNIZUC. I was pretty much stuffed by this point but there's always a tiny little space reserved for dessert. Of the two, I enjoyed the TiraNIZUC because I love their tiramisu twist with tres leches. Oreja' La Mode was caramel like, served with toasted almonds. Personally not a huge fan of caramel like desserts but this was definitely a cozy and warm wrap up of the evening. Felt the warm vibes entering Nizuk from the chilly streets of NYC. Located in Hudson yards this is the place for upscale Mexican food. Bellied up to the bar for a cocktail after arriving a bit early for our reservation and were greeted by there team of bartenders. Many options of tequilas line the bar with a great selection of offerings. Once seated we shared chips with Queso and street corn esquites which were on point. Entrees included Tuna Tostada with mango,smoky salsa macha and habanero. Pork belly tacos and fish tacos with tempura cod. Service was uber friendly and attentive. The service was also amazing - I dined in a group of 7 and we were taken care of without any delays, even on a busy Saturday night. We mentioned to our server that we had 3 guests that all had birthdays within the same month, and they provided us with 3 complimentary small bowls of ice cream - a nice gesture! 5 Stars I had such a wonderful dining experience here! From start to finish, everything was full of flavor, creativity, and heart. We started with the street corn, which was absolutely delicious -- served on a plate with a rich layer of mayonnaise, cheese, and other tasty ingredients that blended perfectly. For my entrée, I had the shrimp fajitas, and they were just fantastic. The shrimp were juicy and well-seasoned, and the dish came with fresh sour cream, guacamole, and diced tomatoes. The portion size was very generous, and every bite was satisfying. We also ordered sweet plantains and fried sugar on the side, which added a beautiful sweetness to the meal. To finish off the night, I had the coconut flan for dessert -- and wow, it was creamy, smooth, and so flavorful that it lingered on my palate in the best way possible. What made the experience even more special was learning about the heart behind the food. Chef Maria, who comes from a proud Mexican background, crafts dishes that are inspired by the coastal regions of Mexico near Tulum. You can really taste the freshness and authentic flair in every dish. The restaurant's name also has a beautiful story: it's rooted in Aztec history and means "the nose of a dog" -- a nod to the unique shape of the location itself! The total bill for two was a little over $200, which included two drinks each, two main courses with sides, and dessert -- and it was absolutely worth it for the quality, atmosphere, and authentic flavors. I went with my cousin to Nizuc and it did not disappoint at all plus our server Juan was amazing. First and foremost, the ambience was really nice and it was packed on a weekday which I believe speaks for itself. Second, if you opt for the HH at the bar it has quite a decent menu. Third, the food but more so the desserts are great. Here's what we had- Tuna Tostada- this was honestly just average IMHO and I've had better. Also, my cousin is allergic to avocado and the tostadas have avocado on them albeit this is not listed on the menu (we let our server know and he said he will definitely relay it to management), Clams- I no longer see this on their menu online but it was really good. A more than adequate amount of clams were given in a tasty light broth with saffron rice- what's not to love? Nizuc Salad- I usually don't go for salads but our server said it was really good and it definitely was. It was a big portion and the citrus vinaigrette complemented it very well. Tiranizuc- aforementioned, the desserts at this place are absolutely amazing. This dessert is basically a crossover between a tiramisu and a tres leches and it's fantastic. Definitely a must try. Natilla de chocolate- just like the Tiranizuc, this dessert is really good and unique as well. There's multiple layers to it including dulce de leche and chocolate custard- yes it is as delicious as it sounds. All and all, I'll 100% be back at Nizuc. read more

Came here for dinner with a group of four. The ambiance is interesting - at first look you think it's classy but then you notice they are going for a more playful vibe as well. They had a live DJ and they were playing music and remixes you would expect at a club. The service was attentive. Maybe a bit too attentive since it wasn't that busy on a rainy day. We got: - Guacamole with tostadas as chips - Branzino fish - Chicken with red mole - Carne asada - Pork belly al pastor taco - TiraNizuc - Natilla De Chocolate The Branzino fish entree was my favorite! It's cooked perfectly and I like how there's no hint of bitterness - which I've tasted in many other restaurants. I have never had the red mole before. It's much spicier than the classic darker colored one I'm used to. It was too spicy for me but I liked how they have the option to keep the chicken feet on the dish. It was aesthetically pleasing! Was excited to try this place as I live in Hudson Yards. The Shrimp taco was fabulous even though the taco did fall apart a bit. The flavors were excellent. Went to Nizuc on a rainy Thursday evening. We had reservations and were shown to our table immediately. Our server was super attentive and we got a nice corner table. My only problem with the ambiance was that the music was incredibly loud. But they made up for that with the food - all the starters we got were exceptional! The chicharrones stole the evening for us - crispy crunchy but soft inside it was perfection in a bite! I also loved the whimsical presentation of the cocktails although the drinks themselves weren't my favorite. Pollo con mole was the only disappointing entre of the evening - but I'm just coming back from visiting Peru and tbh nothing is going to come close to the real deal. All in all however, truly enjoyed coming in and can't wait to be back! read more

Good spot for larger groups. We tried the spicy mango guacamole, which was okay. Didn't really stand out. The corn equites (street corn) app was good. For vegetarians the main dishes were sorta limited to a mushroom dish, mini tacos, and fajitas. I wish they had more items with beans vs a mushroom heavy item. Presentation of the mushroom on pipian was beautiful, but didn't care for the dish with the heavy load of mushrooms. The squash blossom tacos are small and needed some salsa. Looked like a pan fried pepper in a mini tortilla. I had to add the street corn for some zest! Finally the fajitas are typically made with jackfruit, which they were out of. I was excited to see that they finally added outdoor dining so decided to stop by for dinner with a few friends. Needless to say, it was worth the wait. The guac and the tacos that we tried were absolutely phenomenal. My favorite were the shrimp tacos with the fish tempura tacos a close second. The mango aqua fresca was super delicious and refreshing! Service was generally good. I do wish they offered the happy hour outdoors as well. I can't eat inside for health reasons so sitting at the bar is not an option. Wheelchair access details: there are several well spaced accessible tables on the 37th Street side of the building. Really enjoyed this spot. Newly opened and we were looking for a place to have a group dinner. They have a great spot for a semi-private dinner in the back which can seat 30-40 people and has a screen which can project movies or slides how's. The food was great. We started with the guacamole which came with tostadas and it has a nice kick using chili oil which is unusual but very good. We also had the fish tacos and carrot tostadas which were just OK. We got the caesar salad which had some kind of nuts or seeds which added a nice textual contrast, which I love. We also got the corn (which was OK) and the mushrooms which had a nice earthy and complex flavor. Our main course was the fish and the chicken mole. I normally don't like mole but this chicken was tender and the mole sauce wasn't sweet and had some nice spices to it. The fish was equally delicious with a green chimichurri-type sauce to it which was great. The service is great as they were very attentive and brought us extras of items we enjoyed. While I think the food overall was uneven, it was generally enjoyable and a great place for a group dinner. read more

Nizuc, a newcomer on the scene adjacent to Hudson Yards and Hell's Kitchen, promises upscale Mexican-style cuisine and, has fully delivered. Coming in early on a Saturday evening just after 5pm, it was fairly empty but filled up quickly while we were there, bar and dining room alike. While not cheap, we found that everything we ordered was truly great: from drinks and appetizers to main, sides, and desserts. Classic margaritas are made boozy and balanced, with a choice of regular salt, spicy salt, or gusano salt (worms, yes worms) - we tried the gusano it was a really nice finish on the marg. For food, we got two apps and an entree to share - however, it's important to note that they brought everything out together. So, I'd be sure to request if you want anything "out first." But otherwise, the tuna tostada and whitefish flautas were made so well , and the carne asada - which came out medium rare - was tender and melted in your mouth , seasoned perfectly. We also got the side of hongos, a fantastic complement to the meal, especially since we needed a few more veggies. Then, when we thought it couldn't get any better, we checked out the dessert menu and landed on the tiranizuc, which is a tres leches cake made in the style of tiramisu. This was mashup of a dessert I never knew I needed in my life and probably one of the best tres leches cake and best tiramisu I've ever had. While it's definitely a treat as prices are a little higher than some of the other spots in Hell's Kitchen - don't walk, but run to Nizuc to check them out soon as I'm sure in time, it will become a very, very popular spot in the neighborhood. read more

Went with a group of 4 to this place for lunch. We expected a packed restaurant because there was no availability for 12 so we took 12:15 but to our pleasant surprise, the restaurant was empty. The server greeted us promptly when we arrived and asked our preference for seating. We choose a booth by the windows for some heat from the sun. The ambiance was bright and full of plants everywhere. The bar is also huge so I can only imagine it's a complete vibe for dinner and/or drinks. We started with chips and guac which was so fresh and delicious. Chips were really good as well. I could eat those alone all day. I wish the portion was a bit bigger we almost contemplated ordering another one since the 4 of us shared one. I had the fish tacos and others ordered the ribeye tacos and the chicken chilaquiles. The tacos were okay I think the fish could have had a little more seasoning but were garnished well. I heard the ribeye tacos were good. (Side note: They looked really good, I will for sure order that next time) the chicken chilaquiles is a lot of food but looked tasty as well. The tacos came with a small side of rice and beans which was a nice add on as the tacos come in orders of 2. I also ordered the hombre de La hora mocktail and that was splendid! It only took one visit for Nizuc to make it to the top of my favorite restaurants! The food is so so good here. The restaurant is fairly new and I could tell by the beauty in the space. Service was impeccable and I loved the ease in finding a reservation the day off, although I expect this will change once more people find out about it! Starting with the food, the Carpaccio de Pulpo was my favorite - not much to say about it except that it's a must and you will not be disappointed. The tacos although on the smaller side pack lots of flavors, I could've eaten 6 of the Campechanos easily. esquites were good but I wish the corn was grilled instead. The Tiranizuc - their twist on a tres leches cake with coffee cream - was amazing as well. For cocktails I recommend the Pretty Paloma or a classic flavored Margarita which always works. Probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in NYC to date. It wasn't like a traditional Mexican restaurant that you may be used to. It was more elegant like, and the food was absolutely phenomenal!! We started off with the guac and ribeye chicharrón which was soooooo good. Yes, the ribeye was an extra $20, but honestly worth it in my opinion. Out of our apps I really loved the little gem cesar the most. The concha's con corizo was ok. I definitely enjoyed the broth more than the clams themselves, and my friend who is actually from Mexico loved the little buns I have attached in the picture (I forgot the name of it), but it wasn't really my style... I'll take her word for it though haha. We then got the fish, al pastor, and birria tacos. They were ALL AMAZING to the point I couldn't get enough. We even told the table next to ours to order the same, and they loved it too! On top of that, we did order the Chamorro, which is like a pork shank, and it was so good - it fell RIGHT OFF THE BONE!! Absolutely delicious. Off the cob elote was ok - wasn't really memorable but at that point I was so full that I couldn't really tell. And of course, I couldn't finish without ordering dessert, so we got the tiranizuc which is a spin on a tres leches cake which we liked. They rushed to the table to asked for my card to charge it again claiming the card only charge part of the bill Instead of telling the truth about making the mistake trying to put the blame on the card, i requested the manager and this individual approached us in a very rude manner and started yelling while trying to explain. It was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and left us with a bad impression. I didn't even want it to be there another second so i just gave them the card and told them to charge whatever they pleased! What a gem this is! Great food, attentive service (without hovering) and a bright atmosphere with music that still made it possible to talk without shouting. Our server told us about the taco special so we ordered four different types, all of which were tasty and attractive to see. I ordered the ribeye tacos (YUM) but traded one for a chicken one (ditto on the YUM). We managed to save room for dessert, and our group again ordered several different things. Nizuc's version of tiramisu is simply perfect, although the churros with three different sauces were also delicious.
