Had dinner reservations on a beautiful NYC weather day. We were running late because of traffic and they were so accommodating. The drinks were spectacular. The pitcher of margarita was exactly what I expected. I was disappointed that the guacamole was small in quantity and the rest of the meal was meh. The tacos were fine but for six or seven dollars each for one seemed overpriced. There was nothing special about the enchiladas. The rice didn't even taste or look like Mexican rice. The lamb was great. Before we left the bussers cleared my drink before I was done finishing it. The server offered to make me a new one but it took so long that we left. I don't anticipate coming back considering I walked through the entire Mercado to use the bathroom and the food looks great! read more

Visiting NY and stumbled upon Oyamel inside El Mercado. I was happy to find out it was one of Jose Andres' restaurants so I had high hopes. The restaurant is quite large and very nice and quite empty. Needless to say, we were seated immediately. We ordered the Guacamole, Aguachile de Camaron (shrimp ceviche), Pescado Baja California (fried fish taco), Pollo Habanero (chicken taco), and the Tacos de Ribeye. The Guacamole was good, but a bit on the blander / plain side, which I did not mind, but just not as spruced up as some other places. The chips that were served were quite salty, to the point where I brushed off most pieces before I could eat them, but with the bland-ish Guacamole, it worked out. The Aguachile de Camaron was visually beautiful, but unfortunately, it was really bad. It was SO fishy in taste that I could not eat it. Considering the very small portion compared to the $20 price, I tried eating it with the Guacamole, with the salsa, with the chips, but the fishy taste was just too overwhelming. Since I was in NY visiting, I stopped trying to get my money's worth as I was genuinely concerned that the shrimps were bad and I would get food poisoning. The tacos were all good. The Tacos de Ribeye were probably my favorite. The ribeye was tender and well flavored. The fish taco was good as well. Interestingly, the fish tacos were not fishy at all, unlike the ceviche. The Pollo Habanero taco was just okay. Nothing special. As for the service, considering how empty the restaurant was with only about 5 tables occupied, it was difficult to get any attention. The food was very slow to come, and I feel that with any restaurant, regardless of price point, I should not have to flag someone down for more water. But at a restaurant with these prices? I expected the service to be much better. The server was polite, but just very difficult to find. An additional note. They do not have a restroom inside the restaurant. Dined at Oyamel and left pretty disappointed. The space felt bland, overly corporate, and honestly more like an airport restaurant than a José Andrés spot, which was surprising given the reputation. The guacamole was the standout. Fresh and delicious. Everything else missed the mark. Service was friendly but inattentive, especially for a mostly empty restaurant on a Sunday night. The tacos had good flavor, but the tortillas were cold, which completely kills the experience. The shrimp dish took forever to come out, and by the time it arrived, our rice was cold and had to be replaced. Last call was announced without ever offering a dessert menu, and when we asked, the only option left was a chocolate mousse-style pie. We were hoping for churros, but no luck. Overall, Oyamel felt more geared toward tourists than delivering the quality and authenticity you'd expect. For a José Andrés restaurant, this one really missed the mark. read more

I came here this evening after walking the High Line with some friends. It's a large and spacious restaurant with an open-air design. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and brought to our table right away. They have many options for all sorts of diets, but since it's more high-end, the portions are a bit small on some items. At first I had asked if the enchiladas with chicken in them could be made without chicken, since I don't eat it, and the waitress politely told me that they're prepared in advance with the chicken inside. I ended up going with the arroz de hongos (rice with mushrooms), which I can only describe as a Mexican take on mushroom risotto. It had cotija cheese on top, and was warm and comforting. The flavors melded together perfectly. We also ordered the guacamole to share amongst the 4 of us, which never disappoints! To drink, I ended up getting their mocktail, the fresa mint cooler. The strawberry, mint and cucumber flavors in the drink worked perfectly together, and not only that, it was refreshing as well. I definitely will be back! read more

Oyamel has a lovely HH & I'm glad I made it out on time for it haha. First & foremost, the ambience of this place is lovely & very spacious. Second, the waitresses here are super friendly & lovely. I witnessed one of them handling to be quite frank an unruly customer who was complaining how the salt margarita was too sweet for about 10 minutes (complete nonsense on this lady's end, just wanted attention) & the waitresses & waiters handled the situation with absolutely nothing but grace. Honestly, they handled it much better than I could've haha. Now, as for the food & drinks. Pescado Baja California tacos- I get the hype & see why they're easily one of the best things here. The fish is perfectly fried & the sauce complements it very well. Pollo en Salsa verde tacos- also really good but nothing super out of the ordinary. Hongos en molito- honestly not my favorite at all the mushrooms were too minced up & didn't suit me. Salt Air Margarita- unlike the crazy lady who came to yell at the bar, this was great & a classic from Chef Jose Andres. Serrano Cucumber Margarita- not as great as the Margarita as it honestly tasted like cucumber water/lacked alcohol. As a 34 year old in Manhattan, one would think I want to go to all these cute spots in NYC and be out out out all the time. Maybe for some, but this one just wants to go see her niece and spend time with her friends so that is what I usually do on the weekends. This weekend, we decided to go to Hudson Yards and take pics with Bluey. When we got there, we found out that they rescheduled because it was too cold. So, we decided to roam around, take pics and have a bite here. This place is tucked away in El Mercado, which had one of the best NYE parties back when they first opened. One thing to note, this is a TAPAS place. You need to be aware that tapas means little dishes you will be sharing, but still be hungry. Also, since it is NYC, you will have a hefty bill and still be hungry. We got the guac, bland and very little amount. Got the chips, very salty. Got two types of ceviche, tuna and octopus. Tuna, SALT in a dish with tuna. It was really unbearable. The octopus was bland and fruity. This is a big no unless you just want happy hour beer, which is $8 a glass. Tip: You can cut through Mercado Little Spain to get here, there's a host stand on both ends of the restaurant I've been wanting to try a Hudson Yards restaurant and this place is brand new so we made a resy for dinner on a Friday. It's immense, I wanted to take pictures of everything! It was a little loud but I love that they opened up the big door walls to the outside patio tables so it really felt like we were on vacation in Mexico City on a warm evening. What we ordered: -Scallop and octopus ceviche, this was okay not great...shoulda skipped it -2 street tacos: one suadero, one menudo...MENUDO WAS FANTASTIC -albondigas enchipotladas, probably my fav -empanadas de picadillo -Camarones al mojo Dessert: flan with sweet popcorn & churros Drink: pacifico michelada Overall it was a fun meal, I didn't love everything I ate but i had a good time. Wow! Flavors on fleek. Spanish Diner is now Oyamel & it's beyond. There's.spice and lots of nuts used in sauces creating very complex flavor combinations. There's vintage Mexican films playing and walk in seatings Atun Pacifico Salsa chips Mushroom taco Brussels Octopus Total:?$60 The octopus was a mistake and since I'm allergic, one more bite and it would have been a calamity but it was incredible from the small nibble I tried. The house made tortilla chips at Oyamel are exceedingly tasty and addictive. Located inside Little Spain in Hudson Yards, this restaurant is spacious, colorful and the music is vibrant. Having been here once before, I was keen to have lunch again and wanted the chilaquiles. The server showed me to the table and handed me the menu. It takes me less than ten minutes to peruse the menu and take pictures. I waited almost ten minutes till I beckoned the server to take my order. She was chatting with a coworker. I ordered Chilaquiles and to my dismay they became soggy fast. The manager took it off the bill. I also asked for the Camarones al mojo de ajo negro (shrimps sauteed with poblano chili, shallots and chili ). This came first and that is why I was given a cone of the stellar tortilla chips. The shrimps were tasty. Then four hot crisp Empanadas de Hongos which I relished but could only eat one as I was stuffed. I took them home to have it for another meal. Decent addition to the neighborhood! Service still has some kinks but that's expected with new restaurants when they first open (took forever to get our food but our waitress comped some of our items to make up for it which was very sweet of her, even though we didn't even ask for it or even really complain). As for the food: - Skip the avocado salad - the description was a bit misleading and it's literally just a plate of avocados. - The fish taco wasn't bad but I would skip the short rib taco - the meat was tough and very overcooked. - The chips to start were cooked fresh and fabulous. It comes with salsa but we ordered the guacamole also, which wasn't bad but just a small portion. - The shrimp also weren't bad - it came with a unique sauce and was decently cooked. this place was a mess. the good: classic margarita pitcher and guacamole, both truly excellent. not sure what makes their guacamole so great but it was the star of the otherwise lackluster meal. the bad: pretty much everything else. the service, the mains, the timing, all completely out of sync - so much so that it made for a very disjointed and irritating dining experience. literally 5 minutes after we place our order, my main dish and my daughter's is delivered to the table, lukewarm at best. obviously they were prepared before we ordered, so we are receiving something that was sitting under a heat lamp. i ask about the odd timing and our waiter explains that their food is delivered tapas style... as it's ready and not in order. I'm not sure I can roll with that answer because I would not classify enchiladas suizas as a tapa and who wants to eat their main before the margs or guac even hit the table? i would have asked for the enchiladas to be reheated, but after a few bites it was clear that the the taste was not going to be improved upon by heating them up again. we end up waiting forever for our salad and my husbands main dish. our waiter finally stops by and asks how it's going, i ask about the status of our remaining dishes and he asks if he can fire up the lamb... ??? uh yes? were you waiting for our signal? the salad was definitely forgotten because he had to clarify which one we ordered, so they comped it which was a nice gesture. after that conversation they quickly delivered the rest. my husband got the lamb barbacoa (terrible). the caesar salad, an appetizer delivered last to our table, was very delicious. my complaints aside, our waiter was very nice and I could tell he did feel bad, I do feel like he was managing too many tables and was overwhelmed - but this restaurant was running like we had walked in on opening night, not 5 months in. also, to the management: the large projector screens that descend around 6pm and block the windows are beyond awful, I think y'all were playing telanovas and then switched to a college football game? just completely tacky and out of place in an otherwise lovely and vibrant setting. read more

Lunch with my cousin the ambiance is nice with an open air feel. The staff was nice and welcoming. This was my first visit and it was not bad at all. I had the guacamole and chips which was really good. Did not love the salsa. Had the ENSALADA DE AGUACATE which was a salad but it was just the guacamole with toasted pumpkin seeds so??? And I had the chicken and the beef street tacos. I like the beef tacos you could have just given me a plate of the meat over some rice. I have come several times and was a repeat customer but the most recent time I came the service was slow and bad, I found paper in my food and when I told them they claimed it was onion skin. I ripped the paper apart I know what paper is and I know what onion skin is... the quality is going down and the care is declining. Too bad. read more

With the weather finally getting better, we were looking forward to this new indoor/outdoor restaurant. So new, that it wasn't listed on the directory in Hudson Yards. Nor could anyone tell us where it was. After a walk around the building, we finally found it. Upon entering the large space, I walked by the guacamole table-side station, which impressed me. We were seated in the middle of the atrium, amongst the loud bustling scene. A small complimentary basket of chips and salsa, was dropped on the table along with the menus. We stuck with apps and small plates, since the entrees to share looked small and way overpriced. Carnita and Tripe tacos were flavorful, but fell apart midway through. Scallop & Octopus Ceviche was not good. Fishy and bland, this needed more time to marinate. Empanadas De Picadillo Campechano was the best thing we ordered. Camerones Al Mojo De Ajo Negro was tasty, but the bitter greens on top should have been omitted. It tainted the flavor of the shrimp. Albondigas Enchipotladas (Meatballs) was great, but there were teeny tiny. Think "Spaghettios". We had Flan and Churros w/Chocolate Sauce for dessert. Both were excellent. I found myself eating the remaining chocolate sauce with a spoon. The same thing happened with the remaining sauce from the meatballs. Why??!! Because after all that food, I was HUNGRY !!! Every dish was too small. Not meant for sharing. Definitely could have gone out for another meal, sooner than later. Also, with such a giant space to work with, we were seated in a section where the tables are way too close to each other. I don't need the waiter's butt near or on my table or in my face. Great food, great space, great staff! This place usually gets it all right--the atmosphere, the flavors, the service. It's a beautiful venue where every detail, from lighting to sound, typically enhances the experience. However, today was a bit of a miss. A DJ was brought in, and while the music selection itself was fine, the volume was overwhelming. It was so loud that it disrupted conversation and comfort--you'd honestly need ear plugs to stay for long. In a perfect venue, every element should complement the others. Unfortunately, the excessive volume overshadowed what could've been another exceptional visit. Hoping next time the sound is balanced with the otherwise fantastic ambiance. read more

I'm shocked to see such an average rating as of this writing for this restaurant. Everything we had was great. The chips were hot, the salsa is smoky perfection and the food was just teeming with flavour. Service was above average, informative and friendly. Food choices here are not your typical taco & burrito. Plates are creative and just beautifully presented, especially salads. Very spacious, very clean and just a nice overall setting. So happy I tried it and the whole group though the same. Plates are small sizes or you can share the larger plates but they are for carnivores only. My pick was the mushroom rice. They will modify plates if possible for vegetarians or possibly vegans. Ask and you shall receive. read more

Food is ok people working the bar are really great but 6.00 for 6oz of ice tea and then when I asked for more another 6.00 12 oz of tea for 12.00 please give me a break! Loved the menu indicating different life style choices. I'm vegan and my sister is gluten free so it helped us a lot. I ordered the guacamole without cheese and corn tortilla chips, the aguachile de Sandia y tomate, and one hongos en molito taco without crema. Highly recommend the guacamole. Loved the watermelon and tomato ceviche. The mushroom taco was a bit spicy, I would try something else is spice isn't your thing. The waiter and staff were very nice. New, LARGE, modern Mexican restaurant attached to the mall at Hudson Yard, right next to Little Spain. The space is gorgeous & very spacious, the bar is surprisingly small, not that many seats. I made a last minute reservation on open table and was seated as soon as I arrived. They have a small outdoor seating as well as many seats inside that are right at the edge of the outdoor area so weather permitting the garage style doors are open. My waitress was quick, friendly, & attentive. Complimentary chips and salsa on arrival. I Started with their signature "salt air" margarita, it was very good, pretty much a classic margarita topped with an airy salt foam, light & refreshing. For appetizer I had the AGUACHILE DE CAMARON, it was served over a bed of ice, a nice shareable portion, slightly spicy. The SUADERO taco was disappointing, $7 for 1 taco, the taco fell apart as soon as you tried to pick it up, overly saucy, the short rib was in large chunks. I had a friend with me that has no food allergies. The allergy menu is confusing and I read it has anything marked with a g is gluten free but it was the opposite. We got guacamole for the table. My sister ordered the watermelon ceviche, and a mushroom taco. I got the strawberry fresca and the chicken enchiladas. My friend got a pork taco and the chicken enchiladas. The chips with salsa came first, then the guacamole, then our drinks and the watermelon ceviche. My sister enjoyed the ceviche. It was a good portion. The salsa has a kick to it but it wasn't overbearing. The guacamole was great but a little salty for me. The chips were crisp and lightly salted. My strawberry fresca was refreshing. If you don't like mint I don't recommend this. Our food came out 10 minutes later. My friend liked his pork taco. He wasn't a huge fan of the enchiladas. I really enjoyed mine. It has a kick to it but the cheese and sour cream helped with that. The only thing I didn't like was the chicken was a mix of white and dark meat. 3 enchiladas come in the dish. My sister said she liked the mushroom taco but would get something else next time. The waiter checked on us a few times. When we asked for the check he let us know that the woman standing next to him was taking over. We got the check and she came around 5 minutes later to see if we were ready but we weren't. After that I couldn't find her. Another waitress came over to help us. Something I didn't like was trying to get to the bathroom. Ever since this was rebranded it hasn't been good. They took off all the best menu items and replaced them with terrible food. The chicken sandwich was so burnt and the meat was grey inside. The Caesar salad was so overdressed it was swimming in dressing. We ordered an iced tea mind you it's a 6 oz. pour, when asked for a refill we were charged again for another iced tea. So $12 for 12oz. of plain iced tea!!! The queso was just a mess of oil, just total goop. The service is fine. The music playing was loud rap music, just not right for the restaurant's ambience. No one wants thumping music while having dinner. Go back to what you had in the Spanish diner. read more
