    Kahlo.
    Ken P.

To Yelp or not to Yelp that is the question. So some backstory first because I've decided to Yelp it up. I was attending a trade show at Javits Center and the PR Team for the event invited some of their VIP exhibitors and friends in the media out to Kahlo for a special networking Happy Hour on the events second day. As I am always interested in knowing my reps better and getting potential website content out of exhibitor meetups, I could not resist at all. Plus I was going to be on the hungry side after exploring the convention center for a few hours and I had never been to Kahlo before. The restaurant is right on 29th Street a few minutes walk from Javits and has a decent sized space to it. Coat check in the front and then numerous tables on either side and down the center of the room with the bar directly in the rear right next to the kitchen. The group had convened to this section for the Happy Hour and since I don't drink alcohol I was hoping that the bartender could craft a tasty mocktail for me. I didn't catch what he called it but it was pinkish in hue if I saw it correctly in the light and quite tasty. I forgot to ask for limited ice because I'd rather have more drink than lots of ice. Perhaps it was a non-alcoholic mojito or a non-tequila sunrise. Either way, it was tasty and I had a couple of them to compliment the finger foods. The servers kept the attendees fed with tasty bites that featured small lobster rolls, tacos, potato tots with some kind of spicy sauce, steak bites and some sort of corn appetizer in a sauce served with a spoon. While I was glad to taste all of them as they went around, I found myself enjoying the lobster rolls, tacos and the little steak bites the most. They also had a salsa dip on each of the small standing tables with wonderful tortilla chips. I need to find out where they get these provided they are not made in house. I did review the menu prices of the main courses and appetizers and while they appeared to be a little pricy, this was nothing too out of the ordinary for a NYC located restaurant. I will say that 29th Street off 11th Avenue is a bit off the beaten path for more but you can walk a few blocks from the 7 train or the C line and of course Uber anyplace if your budget permits. Traditionally I don't head to places like this in the city since my own neighborhood has so many spots that serve a similar fare. A minor downside was no available WiFi and while they said they didn't have one working I saw it on the mobile so it must have been for transactions only. Today this kind of stuff is commonplace so I hope more find themselves creating customer accessible accounts because it let's that social media notification happen and potentially help the establishments overall existence. I'd come back here and sit and properly dine and relax but I cannot determine when that will be at all. Give them a try if you trust my opinions because what I did have for this Happy Hour was very good.

Food, ambience, service, team, everything was delightful! It is a small restaurant so reservation definitely recommended! A very romantic place btw

Fresa drink that's literally just ice
    Antonia C.

I heard great things about this place so I booked a work lunch there for my team but I was very disappointed. I ordered the "Fresa" drink . It didn't even have alcohol in it and was $14 which would have been find but it was literally JUST ice . So basically we paid for ice . I finished it in 5 sips and used the ice to put water in for the rest of my meal . The food was ok but he cleared our plates and left the appetizers so how are we supposed to finish them . And then when my boss got the bill she realized we were charged for items we didn't even pay for when we told them I swear they were laughing in the back about it . I was so embarrassed. I work for a large company nearby and I won't be coming back or recommending

My family and I came here for a fine dinner. The ambiance is really fancy and nice. The service is good, but it took a while for the tiny portion we got. My family ordered the peach salad and guacamole for about $20 each. The salad a d guacamole were extremely small. My father and I got tacos for about $20 each. We got 2 small tacos. Overall, it would be 5 stars if the portions were larger!

Went with a group of 5 to a 6 pm reservation on a Tuesday night. The music was so loud we could barely hear our server to order or hear each other. We tried some cocktails and shared most of the appetizers and desserts. The food was generally good but overpriced. We spent $18 on a bowl of fruit and the tiniest thing of guacamole (will say that the chips were great) favorites were the octopus, tuna tostadas and the black truffle esquites. In a super weird part of town and not an area or vibe I need to come back to.

    MOLE de POLLO CAMPESTRE

Our parents got us a gift card for this restaurant so we were super excited to try and boy it did not disappoint! It is a small hidden restaurant and absolutely breathtaking inside. It is the perfect combination of elegant and cool. The food is spectacular! When you go do not skip the guacamole and black truffle esquites (never got a chance to take a picture because we inhaled them)... but honestly each item we ordered was better than the last. The service is also exceptional. The staff is super friendly. We can't wait to come back!

We loved our dinner here. The service is excellent, the food delicious (Lubina Zarandeado - sea bass, and Cordero Asado - lamb) and the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, not stuffy.

Apps were delicious, with a modern twist on Mexican favorites. The cocktails were refreshing and inventive (the Bonito was a spicy surprise) and dessert...who doesn't love tres leches? Worth another visit!

Pros: Guacamole is amazing, chips have a nice spice, and I love the decor: particularly the disco ball and chandelier. Our server was very nice. Cons: Didn't know they'd have a limited menu, and was disappointed bc I'd been looking forward to esquites and empanadas--I was going to have the veg one and my boyfriend the meats. The limited menu was super limited in its veggie options and I ended up having guacamole and veg crudite for dinner. They did bring around samples of the esquites which was a fun touch. I wanted about 10 more. There was a DJ for the anniversary party but no one sound checked them and it was constantly giving loud feedback during our visit. I'd give this place another try because the people were nice and the food seems promising.

We made a reservation here for a late Sunday brunch and were pleasantly surprised by the vibrant decor, the great service, and the delicious food. We absolutely devoured our entrées hence the only pictures I got was of our appetizer (guacamole and chips) and the complimentary horchata "shots" at the end, paired with some chocolate. I love the garnish of mango in the guacamole. The chips were seasoned with some type of chili or spice, which was a nice touch. For the entrées, we ordered the chilaquiles and the enchiladas with mole. They were kind enough to make the chilaquiles without chicken. Both entrées were massive. I couldn't finish my enchiladas, which they boxed up for me nicely. We were so full that we regretfully had no room for dessert but we will be back!

Food: outstanding Service: outstanding Ambiance: amazingly warm Shout out to our amazing server Francho

My friend lives down the block so we came here for drinks and I fell in love! Come here Thursday - Sunday dinner time to have an incredible experience with the bartender Jeremy who made me a custom cocktail with dark plantation rum that was out of this world!! (Pineapple strawberry daq to be exact!) I did not have the food but I cannot wait to come back to try this fine dining Mexican cuisine...the menu looked ELITE!!! Music was a vibe and the bar was small but inviting. Met another young woman who came solo and met new friends so whether you come by yourself or with friends, you will feel at home In this cute intimate setting.

Is this restaurant OK for kids? Is there a separate kids menu?

No menu for kids, but you can still bring them if they like good food

So when they say "New Mexican" they mean New Mexican, not from New Mexico?

yes. Mexican- fresh mixes and original spices. Not New Mexico.

This location is convenient to Grand Central, Bryant Park, & Times Square. I was excited to find them after a getting off the Metro North. Unfortunately, the two times that I've eaten there hasn't been great, compared to their other locations in NoHo & Union Square. I'm not sure if the more touristy ambiance & customers makes a difference. First visit got the Pork Adobada Taco ($5-ish). It's similar to Al Pastor (even served with a few pieces of pineapple) but spicy. It's pork marinated in an adobo sauce made from dried red chiles (like guajillo or ancho), vinegar, garlic, and spices. The corn tortilla was very fresh & good but the pork was SO spicy. Some kind of chili oil was drizzled on, in, within, at the bottom. It comes with a sort of green crema. I barely finished - thought it was a joke or something. The second visit I got the Adobada (requested Zero spice) & a Chicken taco. The pork meat was delicious & reminded me of the first time I had Los Tacos No. 1. The chicken seemed like dark meat & was either over-marinated, slightly undercooked, or on its way out? resulting in weird mushy, slightly liver-like consistency. I even picked through the pieces to check for pinkness...the meat was just dark with little flavor. It came with a dollop of guacamole that didn't have much flavor. The corn tortillas also seemed slightly mealy/mushy & underdone. They weren't airy & slightly puffed as usual. I'll probably go back because their location and cost is convenient. But have to make sure the pork has No Spice & not sure how to ask for "done" tortillas. There's always a line at Los Tacos but it moves fast. The condiments & radishes, limes are always fresh. The staff is always pleasant & work quickly customizing your taco, wiping down the All White! hightops & refilling napkins. Don't think there's a restroom FYI.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall.
