I come to New york every three months on business, and as soon as our plane lands, we all start talking about the pomegranate margaritas at Rosa mexicana on Fifty Second Period. This is a tradition. We used a birthday reward from the Toast app to order some food for pickup. We normally don't enjoy this cuisine as a takeout meal as we always feel like you lose a lot in the packaging. Not this time. We shared a an order of enchiladas and a Brussels sprouts side dish. The even provided a bag of chips and salsa like we would have gotten at the table! The enchiladas came with rice and refried beans and there was enough to share between two people The start of the show were the sprouts tho. Good portion and extremely flavorful. Surprisingly happy with the happy hour we just had here. We sat at the bar and the server didn't seem too friendly, and I hate when they do this but they refuse to give you the happy hour menu while at the bar, during happy hour. After asking for it we ordered a pitcher of sangria and a few apps. The sangria was very small for the $24. We got the nachos with chicken, wings with the chipotle sauce and shrimp diablo. The nachos were not your typical plate, but my wife was thru were delicious, you just have to "deconstruct" the presentation. The wings were so much better than I thought. Our server looked like the long lost son of a very recognizable actor which everyone enjoyed once the comment was made. Decent size Mexican restaurant with some seating in the front and a handful of tables in the back dining room. We started with chips and guac. The guac is large so I understand the price. It was very good. No complaints. The chips could have used more salt though which is always a concern. You'd think Mexican spots would have a tortilla chip down by now. I ordered a steak quesadilla. The steak was tender and had pretty good flavor. I just wish there was more. Especially considering the price. Certainly not a bad quesadilla but the value wasn't quite there. Still, a fine option if you want Mexican food and you are in the area. I'd say the 3.5 rating is pretty spot on. read more

I came here for Cinco de Mayo and I must say it wasn't the best experience. I've been to the Union Square location which is spacious and had a blast. Although I had a reservation, I was instructed to go to the bar. Literally no home at the bar whatsoever. Granted I know Mexican restaurants tend to be super crowded for Cinco de Mayo but I was a party of one. I should have been seated outside at the very least. I had to drink my frozen Patron Margarita standing up until a space at the bar open up after 20-25 minutes. Once seated, my area wasn't properly cleaned. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I reluctantly ordered fish tacos with mild guacamole but was given spicy guacamole. The fish tacos were a little cold. The service was rushed. I left without ordering another drink or more food. I was over it. This place isn't far from my employer so maybe I'll give it another chance on a random weekday. read more

I happen to be in the city running errands so decided to use my credit and birthday rewards from them. Ordered pickup Togo and brought it home for family. Was plenty of food and imho better than the last time I ate there with friends! Maybe it's a different chef but today's food was really good and impressed me considering the travel time. I came here for lunch and overall had a really nice experience. The interior is cute and casual, and they brought out a generous portion of chips and salsa right away, which definitely helped while we waited for our food. My friend and I both got the quesadillas I got mine with birria and she got hers with chicken. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but once it arrived, the quesadilla was definitely worth it. The birria was juicy, tender, and full of flavor, and it came with a dipping sauce and sour cream on top. I was so very happy one of my favorite restaurants was still around!! Love love love the food here and even though 3 people shared 2 meals, we were still stuffed when leaving here. The staff was extremely nice, and even though we were 45 minutes late, they were able to fit us in, so appreciated that. The service was amazing. the restaurant is lovely and packed like true Mid-town NY restaurants. They surprised my mama with a song and free dessert to celebrate her birthday. The whole restaurant joined in, so nice. The food is amazing!!! I don't think they have a bad dish. My mama enjoyed which did my heart good because it's a favorite of mine and after so many years, it's still amazing . Totally recommend !! We chose this place for brunch, as it was close to where we needed to be. My friend has been to their other location and said it was good. We had reservations and there was a party ahead of us at the entrance. No greeting or acknowledgment from the hostess upon entrance (red flag). She seated the other party and very lackadaisically returned to her booth to finally acknowledge our presence. She seated us with menus but no brunch menu even though it was still brunch time. I had to ask the waiter for it. Took a while to get order in. We ordered two apps and one entree to share. Took even longer for our food to arrive. We ordered: Nachos - they were ok Fried calamari - overly salty, slightly fishy, and COLD Chile relleno - underwhelming, lukewarm Hibiscus pomegranate iced tea - tasted like grenadine water. Zero pomegranate or hibiscus flavor. Also, different prices between brunch and regular menu. We were charged regular menu price. Overall, super underwhelming and not worth your time or money. This is the third time that I have ordered for delivery from Rosa Mexicana 2nd Ave. This is also the third time that I have received my food ice cold! the Styrofoam package in which the tacos came was never heated up in the microwave. Each time! Management would not refund my money nor send me a hot replacement. This Ice cold meal cost me $35! Management told me it was not their responsibility, but the delivery carrier, Toast, who cannot be reached. However, my delivery person came early with an insulated bag, so it was not their fault. I was happy to find same day seats here. The location is very convenient. The food servings are generous and the dishes are so fresh and tasty. Easy to find enough to eat that's fresh- I don't like being weighed down with fried food. The restaurant is comfortable, colorful, and a great place to stop on the way to the Metropolitan Museum. We enjoyed eating a full meal that wasn't too heavy before taking on a day in the museum. My only regret is that I couldn't try one of their cocktails that looked so tasty. The staff was wearing little ear pieces to communicate, they don't mess around with their communication here. I really enjoy seeing staff who really cares about efficiency. It makes me feel safe in my dining experience. It's Somehow I remember the bathrooms were fun, but I can't recall now in what way I guess you'll just have to stop in and see for yourself. While in New York, we met up with family and had dinner at Rosa Mexicano, and wow, what an awesome time. The space was busy and bustling, full of life, and it's easy to see why. The service was attentive, kind, and genuinely helpful from start to finish. Everyone at the table ordered some version of the chilaquiles, and I shared the duck chilaquiles with my mom. It came with a rich mole sauce, which I had never seen paired with chilaquiles before, and it was incredible. The duck was tender, the sauce was layered with flavor, and the portion was more than enough for two. The entire experience was joyful, flavorful, and full of warmth. I know there are other Rosa Mexicano locations in Manhattan, but if I can call one my favorite, this one definitely is. Can't wait to go back for another round of those mole chilaquiles. read more

The salsa is really good, it's well seasoned and not spicy. I highly recommend the guacamole. It comes freshly made and they let you pick the spice level. Their medium spice is actually medium spicy so I appreciate that consistency. We got the black bean and cheese empanadas and they were really good. I do think it needed a little more salt. We also got the mushroom enchiladas with red sauce. I love how they roasted the mushrooms. The red sauce is also really good. Drink: we got the cucumber refresco. It was really refreshing and not sweet. The mocktails were also reasonably priced, less than $10. Our server was warm, patient, and genuinely welcoming ....the kind of service that makes you feel like you're being hosted in someone's home. He was a highlight of the night. Unfortunately, the experience didn't start that way. I had made a reservation through OpenTable and could clearly see it confirmed on my phone, but the host said she couldn't find it in their system. I completely understand that technology glitches happen ....that wasn't the issue. I was simply trying to show her the reservation so the restaurant might be aware there could be a connection issue between OpenTable and their system. Even after I explained that I wasn't arguing with her, just trying to point out what the customer sees so it could be helpful to the restaurant, she continued to respond in an argumentative way and kept repeating that they didn't have it. The point I was making seemed to be completely missed. Instead of acknowledging the possibility that something might be wrong with the system, the interaction became unnecessarily defensive. It set a negative tone at the start of the evening. Thankfully, the excellent food and our wonderful server completely turned the night around. Because of that, I would absolutely come back. I do hope, however, that the restaurant can help the hostess find a more pleasant and customer-focused way to handle situations like this in the future. read more

I saw her face and it was swollen. I called the restaurant and I asked to speak with the manager and I spoke to a female manager that was so rude and careless, I asked if the chips are fried in the same frier that you fry shellfish. And she mumbled and said no we fry separate and I said then why my mom has a severe reaction that was the only place we had eaten. She said I don't know what to tell you and I said I will report this and she was like okay let me get your number I will speak to the chef to check. Never called me back. Was so careless it's so important to take allergies seriously you can hurt someone life really bad. I am so disappointed and if you have any allergies do not come here they do not care. read more
