We stopped by here for dinner and for breakfast on two different occasions. Dinner Service: When we stopped by the restaurant for dinner the service was really quick and the food was delicious. The restaurant was packed and tons of food delivery services came in to pick up various orders. I ordered a burrito bowl, which was great and my boyfriend ordered a burrito. (If you are hungry, I recommend you order the burrito bowl, since you get much more food). My boyfriend enjoyed his burrito but he was still a little hungry after eating it. Breakfast Service: We stopped by here for breakfast and the restaurant was empty. We though we could order two smoothies and a coffee really quickly and then be on our way. After we ordered our smoothies, it took more than 10 minutes to receive them. Considering we were the only people in the restaurant, we thought we would be in and out much quicker. After this experience, we did not return for breakfast. Were the smoothies good? Yes! The Menu: The restaurant has a really extensive menu with lots of healthy choices. Why does this place look like a Subway restaurant from the front ? It didn't have a proper sign with its name so I walked by multiple times without spotting it . Anyways , I went with the quesadilla and a steak taco . The steak taco was pretty decent . A healthy portion for sure with some good spiced meat . I chose the onions and cilantro as the toppings but they offer some other option with lettuce and something else which didn't sound as appetizing . The quesadilla sucked though . The cheese overwhelmed the dish to a point that I felt it was a cheese quesadilla . It tasted way less spiced than the taco and definitely wasn't worth the 9 dollars or so I paid . The food definitely tastes more authentic than Chipotle - the ingredients are fresh, melt together and the meat is well marinated. I've tried the chicken and carnitas so far and both are seasoned well and have a nice smokey flavor from the grill. I've also tried their horchata. It was strangely watered down even though there was no ice in the drink but there's still a strong cinnamon flavor. There's also lots of seating inside the restaurant if you want to sit down and eat before heading back to office/wherever you need to go. We loved the home made taste of the taco shells I got crunchy which I like better than the soft. We both got the lunch deal and got three different tacos and added our toppings. The inside was limited on seating but we went later in the day and the lunch menu was still good till 3pm!! One star is lost due to mildness of the salsas. I've noticed this place since they opened last year and have always wanted to try this place out- especially after reading the reviews on here! Went to get lunch today- got the carnitas burrito bowl which includes pinto beans, rice, carnitas, lettuce and fresh pico. From the looks of it, the food looked really good and I was really excited to try it! I normally do not like onions, cooked or raw so typically in pico, I would pick out the onions which I did! I also realized they had onions cooked in the carnitas however that was way too much work to pick out so I pretended it wasn't there and ate it. As always, I always include the green sauce because it makes everything 10x better! Their green sauce was also tasty and had a kick to it which was enjoyable! Overall, the meal was really good and flavorful! I mixed everything together and it was comparable to eating Chipotle or Dos Toros! In terms of meats, the chorizo was only so-so. Lacked spice. The Al pastor was a lot better. The spinach/mushrooms were excellent and like everything else outside of the tortillas, quite fresh. I like this place because there's no line and I can take a minute to think what i want. They are even nice to tell you how many items you can pick. I went with the make your own bowl with lettuce (the lettuce looks a heck of a lot fresher than Chipotle's). There's two kinds of rice if you want that. Yellow and 'white' (its more like rice and bean rice mixed together). The meat options are great! I chose the Chicken al Pastor. Flavorful chicken with some pieces of pineapple and a kick as you eat it. For toppings, two kinds of beans and an array of vegetables, all cold items or maybe it became cold sitting out. Topped off with whatever sauce you want. If you want to dine in, it's going to be difficult. As there's only bar seating. The place is not for groups. It's more along the lines of order and go. I ordered them with onions/cilantro and they came with teh crispiest corn shells - I didn't need to order chips to go with them (save yourself the calories)! I saw a worker at the corner on Broadway and ran up for a flyer since I saw $1 tacos. When I walked to the store front there was another person handing out flyers and encouraging people to try out their $1 tacos. I got the chicken with tomato and lettuce taco. I had the staff member add salsa verde. What I enjoyed about this place is that a REAL corn flower tortilla was used. The chicken was Smokey and very juicy. The toppings were just toppings and didn't really add any substance to the flavor. Their chips were really good and they were presented as a sample by the cashier. For $1 I think the tacos are okay. Normally they are 3 for $8. Additionally, after talking with the staff their is a name update happening so they're now called Tacos Times Square. I brought my daughter to NYC for the first time and we stopped in here based on Yelp reviews. Elias' is great! It's a very small, simple place with a counter and a few stools, a place to order, a kitchen, and some truly amazing food. We ordered the Veggie Mex and the Green Diablo Taquitos. The avocado sauce has some heat to it--don't order this unless you are a fan of spicy! My daughter is a vegetarian, so she very much appreciated having items on the menu she could just order without modifications. And the Green Diablo was great. The combination of flavors in each dish was excellent. The guac is awesome, with onion, lime, and cilantro flavors, and not too much salt like so many guacs out there. And the service was excellent--this is a place that makes you feel like family. This is the kind of place I would want to visit all the time if I lived in the city. Since my local burrito place closed down (RIP Oaxaca with your ever-unhappy workers), I've been on the hunt for a decent substitute. Elias is good, but not a replacement. I really loved their tacos--they were in delicious corn tortillas, with cotija cheese and enough chicken to fill me up, and a choice of two side sauces (I prefer the green goo--it's a little spicy with great flavor) over the vinegary red sauce. I was less a fan of the quesadilla--it somehow tasted almost buttery in an unpleasant way. I also appreciated that they wrapped each taco with paper so they didn't get soggy on the ride over. I ordered a chicken burrito off of Meal Pal and had to pick it up between 12:00-12:15. I showed up at 12:03 and the burrito was ICE COLD. So they had to of made it at least a half hour before I arrived there. Why wouldn't you make it closer to the pick up time so it's fresh?! I liked being able to customize up to 4 free toppings. The soft tacos were a 5. The salsa and guacamole were good. I enjoyed them a lot but I've definitely had better. It's Currently 1:12pm. I ordered at 11:30am and still have not gotten my order. (I am located about 6 blocks away from the restaurant) I've called 3 different phone numbers and no one is answering. I HIGHLY recommend not ordering from here considering they do not answer phones, quoted 50 minutes and its been more than 90 minutes. I'm sure the food will arrive cold. This is unacceptable. Update: it's 2:22pm and all i have gotten a hold of is their location in The Bronx and a notification that my order was delivered 30 minutes ago but haven't received anything. Update: 5/11 - after chatting with the store, we were able to make amends and I tried to ordering again. The restaurant came well below the quoted tone. Food was very good, the chicken al pastor has pineapples in it which is different to me, but was very yummy. Steak tasted good too. Loved their corn, looks like they cut it off the cob. Their guac is extra but they piled it high. They have a lot of options as they have a kitchen in the back making nachos, taquitos, and much more.
