Dropped by on a Friday evening a couple weeks ago for a quick takeout order. Walking into the store, there's casual seating for about 20 at two-top tables along the immediate left side and single bar-height seating at a bar along the right front window. The right back is where to get in line to order and pay. Like most burrito, salad or bowl places you go down the assembly line selecting the items to compose your meal. They serve burritos, tacos, bowls with a handful of sides and drinks; the distinction separating them from a few other popular burrito chains is in addition to chicken, beef and a vegetarian (cauliflower & tofu) option, they have a few seafood choices--crispy fish, adobo fish, and adobo shrimp. I was interested in trying the crispy fish or adobo shrimp, and the staff member kindly informed me that they could make either of those options to order, it'd just take a few minutes. Due to timing I decided to go with the adobo fish, which was already prepared. Sending appreciation to the staff member who made me a well stuffed burrito. The fish was tender and other veggies were fresh, I thought the fish could've used a tad more flavor though was also glad it wasn't too salty. Summer Salt is not great but it's not bad either, hence the 3 stars. I had the carne asada bowl over tater tots. If I had to order it again, I'd get it over the rice & beans as the tater tots tasted as if they were out for quite some time. The marinated short rib was quite tasty as were the works, & the hot sauces weren't bad either. I would visit this place again but definitely order it over the rice & beans instead of the tater tots (which is saying something as I love French fries + its variations)! read more

I've been curious about this place for awhile, so stopped by here with some friends for lunch. It's a very casual spot, where the food is displayed and you order at the counter. There is a decent amount of seating. I went with Adobo Fish Taco and Steak Taco. The Adobo Fish Taco was topped with lettuce, tomato, and savory, slightly spicy orange sauce. This was pretty tasty, as the Fish was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, tender, and juicy. I was not a fan of the Steak Taco at all, which came with pico de gallo and the same sauce. Came with a choice of yellow rice or tater tot's as a base. Got the rice. Beans. Shrimp. Liked that they had cabbage instead of lettuce. Pico. Some cute sauces. Burrito was a decent size. Filling. And didn't taste bad. But something was off about it. Wasn't sure if the shrimp were over cooked. Or the seasoning on them wasn't that great. But something was off. Didn't hate it. Staff was kind. The photo doesn't look like much, but this fish was awesome! I love fried fish and when I saw the Baja style fish on their menu, it peaked my interest. This was my first time ordering from here. I like how Summer Salt has both classic and Baja style entrees on their menu. Sometimes you want traditional but other times you just want a California style taco or bowl. I went with the Baja Fish Bowl which came with fried fish over a choice of tater tots or rice and beans, Baja sauce and cheese and salsa (side note- isn't it cute they do tater tots? I don't know any other places that do tater tot bowls.) I simplified my bowl so I didn't do all the fixings but I did try the Baja sauce and it was quite good. The fish was really nicely battered and had a great crunch even when I ate it a few hours later. For the price, I thought the serving was quite fair too. I would definitely order again. read more

I came here on a Monday so there wasn't a long line. Since it's close to where I work, I decided to go here along with the fact that I've never been here before. Once you walk in, there's a menu that you can look over, which is on the wall. Just pick a protein and decide if you want it in a bowl or a burrito. Which reminds me of Chipotle, which has the same options except that they have salad. They have different types of proteins to choose from and pick the toppings. I got the chicken one and picked things that I wanted with it. All in all, taste wise. It was good. I asked for spicy sauce, and that definitely wasn't spicy at all. Came here to pick up a couple of tacos before heading home from work. I was starved so I ordered remotely for pick up. When I got there,Gerardo and Armando, the people working the counter were super friendly. I saw that they have frozen paloma and margarita machines. I decided to have a paloma whe I waited for my food. I love grapefruit and it was awesome with just the right amount of alcohol for a quick sip. The tacos were good. I'm glad I was able to eat them in the car. They were a bit messy, though. There was a lot of liquid coming out while I was trying to eat and drive so I probably should have eaten while parked. I didn't mind, though, because they were very tasty. I'm bummed that my office moved locations. Heard great things about Summer Salt so we ordered via GrubHub. Delivery was sooooo quick; might be the fastest I ever got. We both got burritos California style (with fries), chicken, and then the preset options which you can't change on GrubHub. It came with pico de gallo, sour cream, salsa, cheese, and probably one or two more ingredients I am forgetting. I wish that I could have chosen to add lettuce into my burrito. That was not an option on GrubHub. Maybe it is in store. By the time we tried our burritos, the fried got a little stale. They still tasted good but could be our fault for waiting a while to try them. Overall, I like the creativity and option of having fries in your burrito or bowl. I would try the crispy fish taco next time, but probably just in store so that I could customize which ingredients I want and how much of them I want. read more

Tired of Chipotle? Come here. Like Chipotle they give you an option to build bowls, tacos or burritos - but UNLIKE Chipotle they have some selections you'll want in your burrito asap. For instance, fried fish - it's amazing. Feel like adding tater tots to that burrito? Have it California style and BAM! Done. They have frozen margartia machines, nice seating, good service - it's everything you want for a quick meal that's not fast food. Go here instead of the Chipotle across the street. Totally worth it. It was 24° and this really hit the spot. Very satisfying and the price I paid was $14.70 for this giant burrito. One could say it's a little more on the expensive side, but due to their location + availability of product like avocados, I think it's fair. Can look at the price difference between what you'd normally pay and this price as their tip and to support them. The fact that there are so few Yelp reviews (less than 10) at the time of typing this to me means that people don't really use Yelp much here. So with that being said, for making it to the end of this review, the restroom code is 9416 as of January 03, 2022. Got the carne asada bowl with half rice n beans and half tater tots and it was decent. The meat itself felt a little overcooked--hard and dry. I recently discovered their California styled burritos and I can't get enough of it!!! I mean, French fries stuffed in burritos just brought carbs on carbs to a whole new level. I've tried the carne asada and pollo asada burritos on separate days. Both times my burritos were packed with food (portions were extremely generous) for the price of them (varied between $10-12 each). We went for lunch today and it was a great spot to pick up food to eat at Bryant park. We had the fried fish tacos, grilled fish, carne asada, the cauliflower taco, and the pollo asada tacos. I stumbled across @summersaltnyc randomly while searching for fish tacos and burritos nearby. I had never heard of this spot nor seen any reviews about. When you walk in, it's nothing fancy or special and looks like a chipotle in a rather busy midtown part of town. What I ordered: - Baja Crispy Fish Burrito - Churro For starters, this burrito was massive and stuffed to the brim. I wasn't sure what to expect since burritos and tacos have been subpar for the most part in NYC with the exception of a few places. However, after the first bite, I was BLOWN AWAY! The fish had a beautiful crisp, and the rice, beans, and tomatoes popped with every bite. The entire burrito was just a perfect creation of an incredibly tasty crispy fish burrito! I topped it all off with a churro and this was honestly so good! I was stuffed, but forced myself to eat the churro because it was warm, soft, and chewy. I couldn't stop taking bite after bite with the perfectly coated cinnamon sugar and crisp! Overall, this is a great spot to visit in the city if you're looking for amazing fried fish tacos or burritos as well as churros. This needs to be a place you visit! I got take out from here. The server was quite nice and the place was pretty empty in the middle of the afternoon. They have mission style and California style burritos. I got a mission style burrito with chicken. He filled it pretty well unlike Chipotle most of the time now. Also got a side of chips and guac and some rice and beans. The rice and beans are a great deal. It was only $4.15 and he put cheese on top and it was basically a mini meal. The margarita was okay, a bit salty for my taste. read more

The best burrito I've had in NYC so far! It is a must-try (at least once). I had the Pollo Asada Burrito with Medium Salsa Roja, and Rice and Beans. The overall flavor (even though a bit salty) of the burrito and as well as the flavor of the chicken, was spot on. The tortilla quality was quite good! The rice was good, but feel there is room for improvement. Almost comparable to the burritos back home in CA. I would give it a solid 8/10. I also gave the guacamole and chips a try. Guac overall about 8.5/10 and chips I would give a 9. Overall pretty decent. I've been on a journey to find something that almost comes to CA quality Mexican food. But this place is a very good start. If you are feeling homesick for a burrito and need something quick, give this place a try. read more
