My friend had booked a table at Sinigual for Cinco de Mayo about a week prior, for 5 of us. I got there early and the hostess could not find the reservation and since I was unsure what name my friend booked it under, I decided to just wait for her. When she arrived, the hostess told her they had overbooked the evening and our reservation was "bumped" to the following day. Utter nonsense and ridiculous! I have never heard of ANY restaurant (and I frequent many restaurants) bumping someone "to the next evening" without an "ok" from the customer. It's unfortunate that Sinigual completely messed this one up - our office is close in proximity to the restaurant and we were all regular customers there for lunch and dinner. read more

My friends were in from out of town and wanted Mexican for dinner. Having lived in California, and with my friends being West Coast natives too, it's genuinely hard to compare fairly. NYC does a lot of things at a world-class level, but Mexican, Vietnamese, and BBQ just aren't among them. That's not really a knock on the city overall, since the options here are still perfectly fine, it's just that I've had noticeably better versions of all three elsewhere in the country and the world. And look, if a city wants to call itself a world-class food capital, that's exactly the standard people are going to hold it to. Fair's fair. Great atmosphere here though, cool vibes, loved the open space and the décor. The food itself was just okay. I wanted Mexican food that genuinely slaps, and instead got a version that's been dressed up and priced up without the payoff to match. This is a perfect location for Happy Hour. Not only is it away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square, but the Happy Hour area has high-top, bar, and table seating. The menu has a long list of items and they are all reasonably priced. Our Server, Maria K., did a wonderful job throughout the meal and we were never rushed to leave our table. We started with a glass of Modelo draft beer and a Golden Margarita. The beer was served in a large glass and the Margarita was strong and well presented. Tacos are a great selection for Happy Hour and all of them (fish, chicken, carnitas) were well seasoned, the optimal amount of spiciness, and wrapped in soft shells. The Street Corn was DELICIOUS. The creamy sauce made each bite a delight and the Tahin just added to the enjoyment. When I went to the restroom, I noticed that the restaurant was very full and the low hum of the customers made the ambiance uplifting. I'm visiting NYC with my mom and we came across this place. We made a reservation at 5pm but we got there at 4:30pm. They happily seated us early and we were served shortly after. It wasn't busy at that time and everything was top notch clean. I loved our server. He was so kind and knowledgeable of the area. I got the Carnitas Yucatán and OMG! It was incredible. We came here on a Saturday evening and it was packed. Luckily, we had a reservation, so they seated us right away, but it took a while for us to be served. Our waiter didn't come by the table to take drink orders etc until several minutes after we had been seated. I had a strawberry margarita, and we shared the appetizer sampler platter, steak fajitas, a side of rice and beans, as well as the complimentary fresh tortillas. The margarita, through the straw, was farrrrrr too sweet. Like sickeningly sweet. It had an odd artificial flavor that I couldn't quite place. I thought I wasn't going to like it. However, with the salt from the rim, it actually was pretty good. Normally I order a sugar rim, but I forgot to this time, and I was glad I did. The app sampler was great, with the perfect shareable portions of each thing. The taquitos were some of the best I've eaten, and the nachos were prepared so perfectly with a little bit of everything in each bite. Great value for the price, especially in the city. I'd highly recommend ordering this. We loved the fresh tortillas. So soft and warm. And the salsa that came with them was super fresh and flavorful. 5 days later and I am still thinking about both. The fajitas were tasty, but not cooked how we asked. I ordered medium, they definitely came out more on the medium-well side of things. Still, very juicy, and had that seasoned outer crust you want on a steak. Our waiter was less than attentive once the food had all been served. Stopped by Sinigual for a contemporary Mexican lunch and it did not disappoint. The highlight was easily the Tableside Grilled Chicken Fajita Salad--fresh, flavorful, and a total must-try. I also paired the Chicken Taquitos with a Grilled Fish Taco, and the combo was a home run. Beyond the food, I loved the atmosphere. The restaurant is open and airy with ample seating, and the staff was wonderful and welcoming from the moment I walked in. I'll start off by saying: "Nothing beats a Sangria that is true to its fruit." Our party of 4 ordered 3 Sangria's and a beer. The 3 Sangrias were expertly prepared and that is not always the case when you go out. I ordered simple fajitas and they did not disappoint. The steak was so flavorful and tender. My other guests ordered various tacos and they were very good, although they all remarked the actual shells needed a bit more seasoning, but decent. Stopped by for Happy Hour on a Tuesday (Taco Tuesday specials!) and sat at the bar. The places was packed so I had to make my own space, if you are in a group you might be waiting. I ordered a Modelo Especial as my drink and to eat I ordered carnitas taco and potato bravos, which isn't Mexican but Spanish so an interesting menu addition. The carnitas was juicy but could use a little more spices. I liked that it had a little pico de gio, could have used a little crunch but was tasty. Also, where is the corn tortillas?!? My coworker was taking my team out for. The service is great, all the staff is personable, very kind, and service oriented. They are on top of things. Which I love to see from FOH. The crowd is very midtown corporate types. It's a fun environment, but that people are boring as hell. Nothing like our crew. Margaritas are killer, doesn't matter which one you pick they're all lovely. I've been here after work a few times just to grab one and some guac... which is the star of the show. Freshly made in front of you. It's delicious. I love the tortilla soup, I get it sometimes for lunch for take away, it's great and a perfect portion to hit the spot. Most recently I had a beef quesadilla and some yucca fries. Quesadilla was spot on with my expectations. The fries were delicious, however, the sauce was spicy as hell. Not bad, just extremely spicy. Gotta love a surprise. All my team really love the food and we're very happy with the service. My only critique is that the dessert was mid. It's not really worth the price. I've been to Sinigual a couple of times before--honestly, the food is just ok, nothing to rave about. MEH. The drinks are decent. Since it's Cinco de Mayo, the place was packed. I felt bad for the bartender; she was clearly overwhelmed, and it took about 15 minutes just to get her attention. It was only her at the bar BTW. My friend had made a reservation in advance, so I was at the bar having a drink while waiting for them to arrive. Once we were seated, we asked our server about the Cinco de Mayo all-day happy hour promotion we saw on their website. He told us it didn't apply to dine in guests, only at the bar. I pulled up the site and showed him where it clearly says: "Available in the bar, patio, & for dine-in only." He went to get the manager. The manager came over and told us the HH was "only at the bar." I pointed out... AGAIN that their website explicitly mentions bar, patio, and dine in. I also mentioned that we planned to order food. (I was so hungry!) He said he'd honor the HH but only for one round. Seriously? We were ready to walk out, but then he offered us a table in the bar area and said we could order HH drinks from there. He repeated that the HH all day promo "It's for dine in ONLY," and once again, I reminded him--we were dining in and will be ordering food. This was ridiculous. The whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth. The server in the bar area was friendly. Our bill came out to $278, including the food we ordered. If you're going to promote something, word it probably. Misleading advertising like that is frustrating and deceptive. read more

Outstanding restaurant! So many of their dishes come packed with a real punch, tasty flavors, and just overall solid presentations. Their nachos are abundant with toppings and well accompanied with salsa. The guacamole is freshly made in-house and served adequately. Their salads are mixed thoughtfully with chopped vegetables and drizzled with a decent amount of dressing. Even their fajitas have distinct tasting ingredients. It was hard to find many flaws here, except for the fact that their service wasn't particularly efficient. It's a great spot to bring kids with their many booths and open facing atmosphere. The shrimp isn't fresh and also doesn't have any flavor. The steak was the best on the plate, more flavorful, but it was still a bit dry and overcooked. The veggies were soggy and a small portion. Tortillas were good. I just don't think it's worth $34 for bland, overcooked food. My friend got the Salmon in Lemon Butter Sauce, which was pretty good. It was flavorful and decently juicy. The service was good, our waiter was very nice and quick. The restaurant is big and has a large amount of seating. Overall, the food is just not good and overpriced, so I wouldn't come back. read more

This was the best Mexican style cuisine I have had in a long time. While it is different from my usual "ACP and queso," I thoroughly enjoyed it! After being seated we were served drinks and warm tortillas with salsa and cinnamon butter. These were fantastic! My party of two ordered the appetizer sampler which came with taquitos, short ribs, nachos, and quesadillas. This was the perfect amount of food for 2 people to share, and we were feeling pretty satiated by the end of it. For the main course we shared an order of the Steak Fajitas with a side of rice and beans. No notes. Superb. While the steak was slightly overcooked (medium well not medium as requested) the impeccable flavor made up for it. It was juicy, slightly spicy, and the perfect thing to pair with a fresh, warm tortilla. The entree came with "new frijoles" which was some sort of bean soup, which I didn't care for. The rice was a basic staple but very flavorful. Our extra side of beans was very good, and I preferred it over the beans that came with the meal. Our server was attentive during the meal but the beginning and end of the night he was hard to track down. The restaurant was lively and nicely decorated. There were plenty of people around but it never felt too loud or crowded! If you're looking for upscale Mexican definitely check this place out! read more

This is a beautiful upscale Mexican restaurant in East Midtown. You are wowed by the interior when you walk in. Lots of natural light, "live edge" tables in the bar area, bold colors throughout. They make a very good margarita (of course) and have a menu beyond the usual Mexican fare. We ordered the chicken nachos, which could be a meal by itself. The Tacos Vampiros is jam-packed with flavor and packs a little heat. A favorite on the menu is the option to create your own 2,3 or 4 item combinations choosing from a wide variety of enchiladas, tacos, rellenos. They offer table-side guacamole, flaming fajitas, Chef's special, and even ribeye and pork chops. On our two lunches there, we found everything to be fresh and plated beautifully. I didn't know that people ate it together. I had to ask about it and was told it's complimentary. We ordered guacamole and chips to start off for the table. They make it in front of your tableside, which I took a video of. I ordered the beef or steak fajitas, and it was very filling. I had to use the sauces to make it more spiced up. We came to Sinigual after an event, and it was perfect to grab a late night bite after 9pm. The restaurant is large, but with the lighting and decor, it still felt intimate. We were seated quickly, and after ordering, our food came within about 10 minutes! We ordered the Sampler Platter and the Yucca Fries. While everything on the platter was delicious - the Steak Nachos to the Quesadilla - the two standouts were the ribs and the Chicken Taquitos The yucca fries also had a great crispness to them, and were perfect with the spicy dipping sauce. I love this restaurant and have been here on several Occasions but this is my first brunch experience. They came out with hot tortillas with butter and different sauces while we were deciding what to order. The waiter made a great recommendation - the Papa 'papi'. This dish was awesome and plentiful. It was a lot of food. It was well prepared, bacon was crispy and the potatoes were seasoned well and brought out the flavor of the entire dish. The dish was topped with avocado. A great presentation. After the waitress took our order, a large party was seated next to us. The problem is that it was a party of 6, but the table was meant to sit no more than 4. So we were body to body with these strangers and one even put a chair between the tables and her hair kept getting dangerously close to our food. We ordered the Vampiro Tacos, a combo plate & two skinny margaritas. Although the food was flavorful, it was not authentic Mexican food, so that was disappointing.
