I'm old and my coworkers are young. A few days before our holiday party at Patroon we somehow bonded on splitting the G of a freshly poured pint of Guinness. Talking about the holiday party, we agreed to arrange a contest amongst a large group of us around who could better split the G. I called Patroon and confirmed they had Guinness on tap. Phew. For some reason I thought to confirm that they also had the really nice, etched Guinness pint glasses with the word Guinness on them that allows for a proper G splitting contest. To my disappointment the young owner/manager apologized and explained they did not have the glasses. No bother. We assembled some masking tape and sharpies and figured we would make our own Gs and play anyway. When we arrived and asked for 8 pints of the black stuff I was pleasantly surprised to see them poured in gleaming, beautifully etched, proper Guinness pint glasses! Many drinks later I saw the young owner/manager and asked about the glasses saying I thought he didn't have them. He explained that after he spoke to me by phone earlier in the day he thought it would be a nice surprise if he acquired the glasses from his beer distributor and had plenty of them on hand for us. My coworkers and I dropped in for a late dinner, and had the loveliest experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We opted to sit in the wood paneled bar area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu was hard to choose from, so we ended up splitting several sides, apps and mains. The bone in filet was nicely charred and they did medium rare really well. The cut was seasoned and melty. The spinach and brussels were amazing, and the winter salad was a refreshing palate cleanser. My colleagues enjoyed the scallops, jumbo sized cocktail shrimp, veal schnitzel and the hearts of palm pasta dish. I found myself at Aretsky's Patroon for some after-work drinks and snacks with my colleagues. None of us had been here before, but we chose this place due to it having a rooftop area and (more importantly) its proximity to the office. Since all the boxes seemed to be checked, we made our way over. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we arrived, we were kinda bummed to find out that the rooftop was closed for a private event - but there were open seats in the bar area so we decided to stay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior wasn't as big as I expected, with the dining room hitting you as soon as you enter with the bar in a separate room in the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bar area was small - outside of the stools there were a few tables but since it wasn't crowded we were able to grab a seat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decor is inoffensive - typical bar vibes with low lighting and a color scheme that leaned darker. The aesthetic leaned upscale.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu had a good selection of cocktails, wine, and beer - along with a section of snacks. We had two rounds of drinks - I opted for their cocktails which were quite good. We couldn't leave without snacks and got several for the table - chips and guac, fried calamari, pigs in a blanket, and truffle fries; they also served complimentary mixed nuts. The snacks were good - the fries and pigs were my favorite; the latter looked like they were prepared as full-sized dogs and then sliced into bite-sized pieces. Service was great - we were taken care of promptly and never forgotten despite the bar space filling up after we arrived. Everyone was also super friendly, loved to see it. I came here for a work dinner. First time for dinner - last time was a work function on the roof terrace. This time, we started off at the bar, which is a cozy little room in the back. Nice bar staff and speedy with the drinks, too. I had such a pleasure dinner experience here last week with my brother and close family friends. We arrived for a 7 pm reservation and was seated right away. The staff greeted us before and during the dinner to ensure that everything was going well. We indulged in the shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, and Cesar salad as our starters. As an entrée, I had the salmon with sautéed spinach which was delicious. My brother had a well don't steak that he devoured. He mentioned that it was one of the best steaks that's he's had in a long time. The chocolate cake was perfect for dessert . The food, atmosphere and service, were all impeccable. I was with a rather large group of nine, but it didn't make a difference in the quality of food or service. The owner and his son both came by to make us feel welcome and were incredibly gracious. The Kataifi and Wasabi Wrapped Tofu was sensationally delicious. first off, the service was top shelf. The owner came by and he is a super nice guy whose family owned the restaurant. our waiter was very attentive and extremely polite. The dirty martini was good. It could've been a little bit more dirty and colder and in a bigger glass. I had the bone in filet, which was very good and flavored nicely. A little bit tough to cut through, which was surprising. I like the sauce that it came with. The Caesar salad was excellent and it's prepared tableside I asked for a lot of anchovies and I think they could've loaded it up a little bit more. Party of three to celebrate a birthday. I reserved our table two weeks in advance out of excited anticipation. We were seated inside on the rooftop with nice views outside and a short travel distance from the bar. Dress code is business casual but everyone was dressed to impress. You should do the same. We started with drinks (I liked the smoky Blood Shot cocktail) and nibbled on the complimentary baked parmesan crackers. I ordered a few things so as to get a feel for the menu, and after a short wait, food began arriving. I opened with the Caesar salad, having heard good things. It is indeed a worthy salad, full of crunchy romaine, though the amount of dressing was a bit overzealous. In the future, I'll remember to order it on the side. Next, the filet mignon, medium-rare. The steaks are grilled with a thick char that locks in the juices and flavor. Fork and knife allowed me to easily slice off mouthwatering chunks of meat. I tried the house steak sauce, which is agreeable, but I preferred the steak by itself. On the side, onion rings and potato puree. The rings are housemade and delightful, not too thick or greasy, with genuine onion inside. The potato puree was buttery and blood-thickening, a rich pairing for any main course. I was tempted to also order the asparagus, but this was already A LOT of food, so I made do. The service was impeccable and my guests were similarly impressed with their experiences. Patroon is an excellent choice for special occasions, fancy-but-not-too-fancy get-togethers, marriage proposals, etc. It's a classy joint, so wear something dazzling, and tip well. When I walked in it was a bunch of people in suits. Nothing wrong with people in suits, is just that's all it was. The food was really not impressive. We have great steakhouses in the Midwest, so unfortunately this didn't compare to the food you find from Omaha to St. Paul to Chicago. Scallops were dreadfully overcooked. The tuna tartare was bland. My drink - the out of office - was a bit light on flavor. Sadly, the sea bass' accompanying sauce and condiments were bland. I'm from Minnesota - I know what bland is. The service was excellent at least. Overall, the atmosphere might be flashy for business guys, but the food just was completely underwhelming, especially in New York. read more

While NYC has plenty of great restaurants, there is only a handful that stood the test of time and represents a snapshot of the era long gone, where genuine hospitality, top-notch food and warm cozy atmosphere made going out an incredible experience. Patroon is one such place and although, I don't come here very often, the 3 times that my company held events here were exceptional. Last night, we had our annual holiday party on the rooftop. The space was enclosed and heated. The entire crew was professional, friendly, and took excellent care of us. The food, don't even get me started! I make amazing food at home and it has become really hard to impress me as many places have only gone up in price and down in quality since COVID. Everything was delicious and fresh. The passed appetizers, the charcuterie platter, and the OMG bread, I had to break my pretty strict no carb rule for that one. The seafood platter, and the main courses of penne alla vodka studded with pieces of smoked mozzarella, creamy mashed, salmon, chicken, strip steak. Now, I want to take a moment on the strip steak. This is my least favorite cut. I made it at home, I had it in other restaurants, it's dry and tasteless. I don't know what kind of magic Patroon did here, this one was buttery and full of flavor, I could not believe it. We had an absolutely amazing time and I hope to be back! read more

Clam Casino - not bad but mini clam feels a bit sad Filet Mignon - a very different/weird version of Filet Mignon to me, outside has a very thick more cooked layer heavily sauteed with black pepper sauce, almost feel like dry aged filet??? Lost the tenderness and it's not what I was expecting. Suckling Pig - it's a reconstructed meat same way with how Tuome is making it, like pulled/shredded pork and reconstructed back to a chunk. Since I had Tuome recently, this place just couldn't compare with it... The fried dough came with it that occupied half of the dish was also weird. I really enjoyed dining at Aretsky's Patroon! The waiters were all very kind and the food was delicious. I came for a work event so it was a large party of people, but the waiters were prompt and made sure all the glasses were full at all times. I started off with the tuna tartar, ate a filet mignon for my main with truffle fries and asparagus, then had vanilla ice cream for dessert. The tuna tartar came with a very crispy chip that tasted so good as a dipping vehicle. The bottom had a lot of avocado which was slightly too much, but I love avocado. The filet was good but the standout was the fries. Highly crispy and just enough taste of truffle. The dessert was okay and I wouldn't recommend the ice cream (should go to Duane Reade and get a whole pint instead). read more

Absolutely one of my favorite spots in Manhattan. I've been going here for decades and have never had a meal that I would describe as anything less than utterly scrumptious. The service is as good as any restaurant I've ever dined in anywhere in the world. Attentive, prompt, responsive when needed and always eager to enhance your experience without hovering or interrupting. Most recently we enjoyed oysters, a fabulous take on Crab Louie salad, Pan Seared Dover Sole with white asparagus,and we finished with the Beignets drenched in hot fudge with vanilla crème and the entire experience was spot on. Not sure if they still have this dish. We ordered from the prix fixe menu and a la carte. The waitstaff was so pleasant and knowledgeable. Shew knew her wines and definitely knew what we should try on the menu. Not sure if they still have Friday Night Specials but that night, we ordered the lobster. had an amazing dinner tonight. the server was professional, attentive, and courteous . it was our first time at Aretsky's Patroon which was recommended by a friend who is a local and the family owned restaurant did not disappoint. I love the tuna app, crab cakes app and the bread was to die for. Every entree was fabulous. The halibut and paella, but let's not forget the lobster Mac and cheese side! they sent us an order of beignets after telling them we were from New Orleans and they were also delicious!!! I've come here for drinks or lunch on the roof a handful of times. The bar usually has a good amount of energy and the roof is great, especially in the summer. If you're looking for finance bros, look no further than the roof at around 6pm on any summer night. Last week I ate in the dining room for the first time and was very impressed. It was on par with any tier 1 steakhouse in the city. I had the burger (medium rare with peperjack cheese and bacon), which was incredible. read more

Evidently a big spot for business lunches. We were the only ones there not pitching something to each other. Nonetheless, the servers were friendly but not intrusive. Although several servers helped us throughout the course of the meal, it didn't feel disjointed. Tuna steak was nicely prepared. SO SO SO SO GOOOOOODD!! Came here for Valentine's Day dinner and everything was amazing. You walk in and you're greeted by the hostess and offered coat check. When you walk into the main dining hall, everything seems classy and elegant so make sure to dress appropriately! The service was superb. A gentleman, looking to be the head waiter, always made sure we were doing well and had everything we wanted. Occasionally we would see him put on a chef hat and make a salad table-side for some patrons that were sitting at a table across from us, dinner and a mini-show! Another gentleman, seems like the owner, also came around towards the end of our dinner and went to each table to greet his customers. I thought that was amazing. I love when owners take out time to thank their patrons and see if there's anything else they can do to make your experience even better than it is. Seems like he knew a lot of the customers probably because they were regulars. The star of the night was my 2 lb smoked lobster. It was soooo good and if it was more in my budget, I would literally eat this every week. The lobster was cooked PERFECTLY. Not overcooked, not chewy, just perfect. And the sauce on time was extremely good as well. I was very satisfied with my meal and on top of that, the service was great? 5 stars, no question asked! Since it was my first time there, I decided to venture to the above floors to check it out. On the 2nd floor they have private rooms that you can rent out for business meetings or other types of events. On the top floor, they have a rooftop bar. I was walking to work one day (running late) and ran into someone I used to work with at my old job. He wanted to catch up so we decided to meet here after work. It is so strange how in New York you are able to walk by all these places and just not notice it. This place was located on a street I walked by ALL the time. The place was on the fancy side. When I got there, the place was filled with men in suits just having a business meal/ drink. I mean, I was there for business myself so it made sense. However, this place is definitely a place you men can flex your muscles and show a lady a classy time as well. We sat by the bar, which is what I usually prefer. However, they have a rooftop during the summer, which seems to be popular with the younger crowd (mid-20s). Our bartender was so sweet. A jolly fellow that catered to my drinking needs. The food was delicious. From the pigs in a blanket to the sliders, everything was so deliciously done. The pisco sour was deliciously made. They put some berry.. I want to say acai? that made it special. It is bit on the pricey side so maybe try to go with someone that will expense it as a business meal? read more

They advertise as being a rooftop bar, but 80% of it is covered. The other 20% has been roped off from non-existent private parties. They're understaffed and have a very limited rooftop food menu. You're better off going somewhere else for after work drinks. read more
