Then we got seated and the waiter stated we couldn't change how we wanted to have our eggs prepared. I came to have a quick dinner with my friend who works nearby and though it was slightly loud, it was a great place to catch up since it was just the two of us. I ordered the al pastor tacos, which were $19 and came with three tacos. I didn't think that these tacos were worth the price. I found the tortillas to be somewhat stale and very flavorless, and I was still hungry after finishing these tacos. To put the size in perspective, I finished one taco in two bites, so my whole meal was 6 bites. Because the menu was on the pricier side, I didn't feel like ordering more food was worth it. They were very strict with the 90 minute timeline; therefore, we were ready to order once we sat down, but they were not ready to take our orders - it took about 10 minutes for anyone to come over although there were only about 5 tables sat at the time. The waitress also told us to trust her in lieu of ordering individual dishes (because some dishes could take 30 minutes to come out), but she was not accommodating when we wanted more of certain items, even though it was bottomless. Upon entering, drink orders were taken and I had the Horchata. Their version of Horchata was unique, creamy and tasty with a slight fruitiness. We were served chips and guacamole, chicken tacos, veggie tacos, Fajitas (include steak, shrimp, chicken), as well as Churros in chocolate sauce for dessert. Most of the items fell short, except for my favorite dish, which were the Fajitas. Everything was served on a sizzling platter. The Steak was perfectly seared, tender, well seasoned, while the Shrimp were succulent and juicy. The onion, red and green peppers were cooked well, and slightly charred. I enjoyed the satisfyingly crispy tortilla chips, but the guacamole was very bland. Chicken tacos were decent. The chicken was marinated in a savory sauce, and accompanied with pickled red onion, as well as radish. Veggie tacos were a bit sad looking and not that flavorful. Finally, the Churros were served warm with Chocolate sauce, but I would have preferred Dulce de Leche sauce. Churros were nicely fried and crunchy with plenty of sugary cinnamon all over. Chocolate sauce was velvety smooth, rich and sweet. Service was pretty good. Overall, it was a fun night! However, I wouldn't go out of my way to return. I went to Maya for the first time with my wife and three-year-old, and after spending about $210, not including the $40 tip, I felt very disappointed. I can understand a smaller portion for him, but compared to what we ordered, it appeared in hindsight that his chicken portion was closer to what a main dish size should have been for us. The lobster tacos looked like miniature chicken nuggets. The portion was extremely small and felt more like an appetizer, yet it was priced like a main dish. Those three small circular soft tacos, with the dollop of lobster meat on top were very small as well. The ceviche portion could honestly have been half an appetizer, and the guacamole was not the best. If the food had been really good, that is exactly what my review would be saying. But the portions were so small for the price that after getting our food, we saw steak fajitas coming out for another table and decided to order that too because we were still hungry. We did not arrive there particularly hungry. The portions were simply that small. For dessert we ordered the coconut flan, which was also small. Some people may be fine with this type of dining experience, but I have to write an honest review. If you are used to going to a restaurant with normal portions, you may be surprised. There used to be a place around here called Cilantro, which is now on the west side, and those were normal portions. Here, the prices are about double and the portions are about a quarter of the size. I wish I had taken pictures, but if you go, you will likely understand exactly what I mean. I arrived maybe 5 minutes before our 12:30 reservation and was given the option to be seated immediately but declined because apparently table times are limited and the clock would have started ticking once I sat down. Neither my friend or I opted for the bottomless brunch which I suspect gives most of the appeal. We shared guacamole as a starter which was the star of the meal. Very fresh and flavorful. My chilaquiles weren't anything to rave about and my friend seemed only marginally satisfied with her huevos rancheros. The portions aren't particularly generous. Our coffee cups were left dry for quite a while but we were finally able to ask for a refill before leaving. There's a DJ at the front of the restaurant near where we were seated so we had a hard time hearing each other and the other server at times. Came to Maya for their Happy Hour. The restaurant opens around 4pm and the bar area filled up quickly. The Decor had a relaxing vibe.
