My wife and I were visiting my cousins in the city, and they choose to take us to Canyon Road, a nice authentic Mexican restaurant with a typical decor. We had reservations and were seated in couple of minutes. Our waiter came over and took our drink order and for apps we had the guac and chips. Fresh guac in traditional molcajete bowl and they also brought salsa. The guac was very fresh and awesome. I almost filled up on that. For dinner I had the Chimichanga De Pollo and my wife had the Al Carbon Tacos and so did some of the rest of us. There were 2 Chimichangas in my order with rice and beans, very plentiful and good, my wife's order were 3 Tacos which were very good and enough. I had to take half my dinner home; it was so much. I guess had too many chips and guac. Our waiter and servers were polite and efficient. All was reasonably priced for the city. It was a nice dining experience for all of us. read more

I want to thank Ruperto Ramirez and his amazing team for helping us throw an incredible celebration for our daughter's graduation. The ambiance was perfect, the food was delicious and plentiful, and anything we requested was met with kindness and support. Our 35 guests were incredibly complimentary and many said they had not been before but would definitely return. It was a very special afternoon and we appreciated how quickly things were refilled and the attentiveness of the service. Best happy hour in UES. They have solid specials 7 days a week and margaritas are incredible. Nice place to watch a game, catch up with friends or have a family meal, this place really welcomes all. Service is always fast and attentive, and food is good. They offer both traditional and Tex-mex items and their drinks are strong! My favorite is the pomegranate margarita with mezcal. So this is a place I walk past regularly, never gone in until today. The place I planned to go was not open on a Monday so I noticed their A board sign and went in for a $10 margarita, solid but not great. The HH menu had lots of things for $13, I had missed lunch so I thought I'd give it a go. Seafood burrito, sounded about right for a snack/dinner. The burrito was not that large however it came with delicious rice, beans, guacamole and sour cream, I plate full worthy of a nice entree - win! The burrito was filled as promised with seafood, juicy fresh shrimp, squid etc. The rice and beans were also great as was everything on the plate, a bargain for $13. Service was nice, fast, efficient. The bar is a a good spot with some TV's for catching the game. This is a great neighborhood spot, don't walk past, stop by and HH 4pm. I was dragged here by a friend, but I'll definitely come again! I had a frozen concoction that the bartender, Valentina, made. I'm a lightweight, so when she asked what flavor I thought it was, I said, "alcohol!" If you want a GOOD drink, come here. Lol. It turned out to be a strawberry mango margarita and the alcohol was THERE! I also had the turkey and spicy chicken chile. It was soooooooo good. You usually eat chile with a spoon, but the tortilla chips that adorned the plate sufficed very well. That chile was amazing! I'd go there just for that. Came here for a midday weekend happy hour. What we ended up with was not happy hour, which I am still a bit confused by. We had seen on the website a happy hour advertised with drink specials and food specials. When we arrived, we saw a sign outside that also advertised said happy hour, as did a menu posted on a table outside. However, when we sat at the bar, we were told no such happy hour was in play and that they only had brunch that included a 90 minute AYCD special, which wasn't really what we were looking for. We stayed for two fairly mid drinks (1 sangria and 1 margarita) and left. The service was nice, but again, needs clarification about what their offerings are. read more

Nice little Mexican find on the Upper East side. Located on 1st between 76 & 77. Inside is warmly decorated giving that authentic feeling. Met some friends here for Happy Hour. I want to say that I first liked this restaurant. The food was good. Our waitress was lovely. My only problem was that we came for a party of 8 for a birthday party calling the day before asking if we could bring a cake to sing happy birthday. We were told we could. We handed the cake to the person who sat us and proceeded to have dinner. After dinner, I was told there was a 3 dollar a person plating charge for having my own cake served. When we called, it was never mentioned. That meant another 24 dollars to use their plates and forks. We inquired why this was not mentioned to us in the phone call and asked to see the manager who wouldn't come to our table. It left the poor waitress feeling very awkward. We spent close to 300 dollars for dinner. This was more about the fact that we called in advance and was never told and the manager refusing to come to our table when asked. So we will never be returning not because of the food but because management obviously doesn't care about their patrons. read more

The first time I went to this place I thought the food was too spicy. Then I realized in the immortal words of Taylor Swift: "I'm the problem, it's me." Having been back a few times since, it's quickly becoming one of my favorites. Locals hang out at the bar and chat with each other. I came to Canyon Road for an engagement dinner on a Saturday night at 7pm. This was my first time coming here and I was surprised at how large the space inside the restaurant is. We were a group of around 20-22 people and they were able to accommodate us all. I really appreciated the organized service and how they coordinated everything so all our meals came out at the same time. They were also very attentive of our table and kept refilling our waters and chips with salsa regularly. We ordered 3 frozen margarita pitchers for the group and these were pretty good! Flavor was not too sweet, and they were definitely not skimpy with the amount of alcohol in each. For me the only downside was that the food itself was not too amazing-- but also I have relatively high standards for Mexican food. The chips with salsa felt a bit stale in our first batch although improved in subsequent batches. I ordered the grilled adobo marinated chicken breast which had a decently sized grilled chicken breast over roasted corn and sautéed spinach and jicama bits. Portion size was large and filling but the chicken breast was a little dry and the spinach was salty. I did like how it came with 3 small plantains that weren't stated on the menu and overall it felt pretty healthy besides the salt. I also ordered a side of rice and black beans with that which was pretty good. My boyfriend ordered a chimichanga de pollo (which is basically a fried burrito) which was good. It had generous filling of chicken and veggies and came topped with guac and sour cream + some rice and beans on the side. I thought the portion size was very good for this. The tortilla quality wasn't great but the dish itself came together relatively well. Even though the food wasn't mind blowing I still think the service was exceptional and they really know how to handle big groups! This could be a good place to bring a large crowd and where you will likely find decent food for everyone since their menu is pretty varied. The vibes are really lively and fun! Not sure I would come back here individually but it's definitely a good place to host a large group dinner. read more

Its truly tragic how poor service and disgruntled and unhealthy employees can truly take a wonderful experience with amazing food and toss things out the window. This was our situation last week (Late February 2020) - Around 7:30/8PM. I didn't appreciate the sarcasm from the host; we arrived 15 minutes early - to find an empty restaurant - only to be mocked by the host; Sorry - didn't appreciate your joke. From there, things went just down hill. Waitress was terribly disgruntled and could not make it more obvious that working that evening was the last thing she wanted to do. Thanks for making me feel stupid and repeating my drink over again - "Pina Colada - Extra Frosty". More importantly - the food was excellent; very well crafted and delicious; - ingredients were very fresh. Kudos to the Bar Tender who made me a tasty and frosty Pina Colada. Sad that the delivery and service was so poor; truly left a bad taste in our mouths - we won't be back. Killed my appetite and saddened me. I can confirm, previous comments - portions are rather skimpy. That's disappointing. Pleaded many times for more tortilla chips - they never came. Nobody cared! In short - I don't suggest this place. It tends to attract a rather irritating crowd. I got a kick out of the countless French tourists crowding the bar, speaking French in such a tone as to be obnoxious. It was a lovely touch. Hence - this is likely why staff are conditioned to act in such a away - Looks like I found my answer. A little too European for my liking. Dear Management - Feel free to reach out to me. Don't bother offering me any free meals or such the like. I don't think its appropriate to mention the waitress's name - but, I was sure glad that it said it on the receipt. I was craving Mexican food, but good Mexican food places are not as common as they are in Los Angeles. I did a search on both Yelp and UberEats, and came across Canyon Road Grill. Being the busy student that I am, I was able to get food from here delivered to my door. As has been the standard practice for me since the semester started. After a reasonable wait, I had my enchiladas verdes delivered to me. I was ready to chow down, as I was saving my appetite for this. The wait was worth it. The enchiladas were delicious! The green chili was actually spicy, and they came with an abundant portion of chicken. There were also chips in a brown paper bag, and mild salsa. But the main dish exceeded my expectations. My first restaurant stop in NYC when I arrived. Saw good reviews so wanted to check it out and it was close to where I was staying. Easy to get to. Walked in and was greeted by the host. The place isn't big for seating as I have found most restaurants in ny are not. Our table was pretty wobbly but the food runner fixed it. I started with my standard guacamole. That is usually my barometer as far as if the entree is going to be good or not. That and the fact I really enjoy it. We asked for spicy. It really wasn't. But it was nice and creamy and the chips were hot. Yes some places do serve chips cold which is not my preference. I ordered the pulled pork enchiladas with green sauce. I prefer red but stuck with the green. Our dishes came out in a timely fashion. My enchiladas were good. The sauce was the best green I have had. My friends dish was good too. Not sure if they offered dessert. We were both full and I was tired from the travel. The waiter didn't seemed too enthused to be there, but was attentive. Canyon Road is a quality Mexican restaurant serving up delicious food and drinks. I came here last night for the first time and would return again. We sat outside within one of their heated huts which kept us warm on a 20 degree winter evening. We started with freshly made Guacamole and margaritas. For our main dishes we ordered the Slowly Roasted Duck Burrito, Steak Fajitas, and the Carnitas Tacos. We all enjoyed our meals and the margaritas were well made. I would recommend ordering the Carnitas. They were cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Canyon Road is a great spot if you are in the mood for Mexican food on the UES. Sunday night football was on all TV screens. Didn't expect a crazy crowd due to this being Holiday weekend. They have a nice Happy Hour menu. There is bar seating and cozy tables with bar stool seating. We sat at the cozy tables. I had a delicious margarita and my friend ordered a mojitos. They served tortilla chips and a delicious salsa. We were too full to enjoy due to being a bit full from dinner. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays and it was very cozy. Very nice customer service. Used to live around the corner and always walked by this place. Finally was able to stop in for happy hour once and the prices were pretty cheap from what I saw. Came by with some friends on a warm day after moving out some furniture so we needed to get drunk ASAP! Drinks were super strong, I remember having two or so and pretty done at that point. Our server wasn't super attentive so either the bartender/manager ended up coming by which was nice but could've been better on the service. The tacos were decent, wasn't anything too outstanding or memorable. But when we got the bill, I don't think we got the happy hour prices and I didn't check when I was paying so that was a bummer. Have only been here once, but I'll certainly be returning. The white stucco interior is definitely reminisce of Mexico and the service was quite friendly. They start you off with complimentary chips n salsa (solid salsa). I ordered the carne tampiquena and it was delicious. The sauce really made it, as it was savory and with enough kick to satisfy my spicy tooth (yes that's a thing I just made up). Steak was cooked to my liking and came medium rare just as requested. Drinks were decent as well. Food prices were quite reasonable, portions a healthy size, and the food was tasty. What's not to like? Date ordered the chicken chimichangas (prefer a beef filling which I didn't see as an option) which were decent. Her rice n beans also were good although I do prefer when the beans have a protein's stock in it (could have used some pork fat or something) and the rice could have been a touch moister. Great neighborhood spot to come to for happy hour and amazing Mexican food. It's really hard to find quality tacos and nachos in the city (very surprising!!). The margaritas were delicious and I felt a buzz after drinking two lol.
