this is definitely a local's spot with a nice group of regulars. and you're definitely not coming here for the ambiance (unless broken arcade machines is your idea of elegant decor). this is down and dirty mexican food, done right. my wife got tacos (which were done street style with just meat on a tortilla, add your own condiments like diced onions and tapatio) which were awesome. i got a carne asada torta, excellent! it was huge, and they actually put hot sauce on the top of the bun rather than in the sandwich -- what a brilliant messy delight. and the chips and salsa were great -- generous portions and salty pico de gallo salsa, loved it. oh yeah, and liquor license is still suspended. read more

Great little hole in the wall hideaway. It was later in the evening so there weren't many customers. The service was very friendly and the food made fresh. I had the carnitas with a side of verde sauce. The verde was fabulous! The freshly made salsas were an excellent compliment to the fresh tortilla chips. I would go again! read more

This place is a hole in the wall with few amenities aside from free water and outdoor tables with shade but man, oh man, those shrimp tacos are fantastic! In fact, all the tacos are delicious! And the guacamole is good too! This place is a must if you're in the mood for mexican food! read more

I had 2 cheese enchiladas togo with rice and beans. I let the cook know that I didn't eat meat so he put some extra veggies in one of the enchiladas, which I thought was really nice. The enchilada sauce had a nice flavor and the rice and beans were moist and flavorful. Their menu was decent in price, but thought that the seafood was a bit pricey for a taqueria. I will go back and try something else, I wish they had vegetarian tamales though, they only had pork, which is probably delish. read more

Go for the carnitas torta ahogada!! You also tell a Mexican restaurant by their rice and beans, this place has good rice and beans, not out of the can crap. The best torta I have ever had.. Period. I've searched high and low for one as good and have been unable to taste one as good as their carne asada. Meat is always fresh and delicious, and their salsa bar is stocked with multiple types of delicious salsa. The owner, Felix is also really welcoming and will joke around with you once he gets to know you. This place kicks ass. I was really excited to try this restaurant because there was a sign outside that read "Papi's tacos and gorditas". I thought this was great a Mexican restaurant that was specializing in two excellent, traditional dishes. Unfortunately , this is not the case. They have a full menu and I couldn't even find the gorditas on the menu. It was expensive, took a long time and the food was flavorless. Their salsas were horrible, I think they bought them out of a can. If you're original idea was to have it be a taco and Gordita place, then please go back to that idea. read more

Thought I would try papis since my favorite spot was closed and they are both 1/2 block from my house.. I waited 40 minutes for 2 items with only 2 orders in front of me.. what upset me most is that they served their friend who walked in 10 minutes after I did first.. After getting shot down by a few fancy spots in downtown Paso for no reservations we tried Papi's out as a last minute place for dinner on a Saturday night. This turned out to be our FAVORITE meal of the entire Paso trip. The owner/chef is passionate about his food. Full salsa bar and excellent service. All the workers were extremely nice and asked several times if we needed anything else like refills or chips even though this is a order at the counter type restaurant. All four people in my group loved their meals: Albindoga soup and enchilada sauce stood out as the best of the best. read more

The burritos were huge and just what I was looking for. My husband said it was just okay. He ate his burrito and half of mine. My son enjoyed his fish and chips. Papi's is hit or miss. The food is decent, but really greasy. The restaurant (tables and floor) is always dirty though, so I'd recommend take out vs. eating there. Also, apparently they've served alcohol to minors and had their liquor license revoked so you can't get a cold cerveza with your meal. Another spot I missed in Atascadero but thankfully they still have this one going. As everyone else noted, the salsa bar is excellent but the marinate they use on their meats is what makes this spot stand out for me. No matter what meat you get it's always very good and flavorful. I've always been a huge fan of the carnitas but will get a chicken taco every now and then as well. beans are great, love their burritos.. great size and with all the salsa bar condiments you just can't go wrong. read more

Best Mexican food in Paso by far! I have been coming here since I was a kid and Felix always takes great care of us.

I used to like this place. Good food. I came with my husband on a Friday evening at 8:00. I realize it was a busy night on a holiday weekend. But come on, the place was totally filthy. The floor had not been swept in a while. All the tables were dirty. I had to ask them to clean one for me. The salsa bar was totally wrecked, unappetizing. I'm surprised the health department doesn't come here and site them. There was a young man at the order window being totally lazy. When he didn't have a customer he was in his cell phone. So disappointed. They need more staff and get their act together. I don't think I will be coming back. I could see inside the kitchen from the order window and it was totally filthy. I hope I don't get sick. read more

Probably my favorite Mexican food in Paso Robles. I'm pretty much all about their carne asada burrito. The one thing I'd like to see improved is consistency in their beer selection, one day they serve beer and the next thing you know there's no alcohol being served at all. This place never disappoints. My other half loves the Tortas here. The top bread is dipped in some sorta hot sauce which he says burns his lips but in a good way lol Their Asada fries are delicious. I always get a plain burrito with rice, beans, cheese and meat. No complaints. Staff is always great. The food takes a while to come out but it's worth the wait.
