This is a Paso institution and all but it has seen better days. The food is generally decent but nothing special but the "service" really disappoints. I've been in more than once where we waited on food for what seemed like an eternity, only to find it had been sitting on the service area by the kitchen without anyone letting us know. Can't rate the food - we went in Tuesday evening at about 6:00 - was very busy, sat at the only empty table which was loaded with old food and service items. Finally guy comes out, cleans half the table and he tells us they are really busy, finally comes back and cleans the other half. Don't expect your food to come out fast, but expect it to be delectable, especially when papi is in the house! Love this guy, extremely friendly, salsa bar is phenomenal. I can't get off of the greasy, cheesy deliciousness that is their Beef Chimichanga, but it's just so good topped with their mild salsa. The Food is DELISH. They are by far one of the best restaurants in Paso Robles. The chicken is by far the best. I usually order a chicken Taco Salad. The salsa bar is AWESOME. Grew up here and love this place! When I moved down to San Diego, I made sure to stop by here as much as I can! The owner is super nice and still remembers my family and I from high school. Their food is awesome and the portions are more than you need sometimes! I highly recommend the carne asada torta (sin chile) as this is my favorite. Moving to the North East, I haven't seen too many mexican places so I miss this place even more. There are a few tables inside and outside sitting is available where you can have a pet join you. Food was ok. We ordered torta & fish tacos. Torta was huge, but its taste was not impressive at all, very plain. Sauce used in tacos was ok, and I used salsa on it. I smelled fish. without sauce & salsa, probably it would have smelled more. But their green salsa was good as others said. About service, it was not good. People working there were friendly, but they were extremely SLOW. It was not busy at all when we got there. But we waited our food for 40 min after we ordered. 3 cooks were in the kitchen though. The best Carnitas in the County. I'm a regular (my office is across the street) and Felix knows exactly what I want and has it up in no time. I just LOVE this little place - FANTASTIC food, friendly service, and seems to be priced very reasonably. I also find it a big plus that they're right across the street from the Pine Street Saloon. Ha! They did temporarily lose their liquor license (check id's next time guys!), but they are working on getting it back very soon. So yes, I do miss having a Pacifico with my shrimp tacos, but no big deal....I'm often getting it to go and wouldn't get a drink anyway. Some people find it a bit of a pain to go up to the counter and get their food when it's ready, but I don't care about that at all....but I'm not the serve-me, princess type. Been coming here for over 20 years Felix is so welcoming and nice every time you go in and so is his lovely wife. They have the best salsa around don't listen to any of these negative Nelly reviews the food is fresh the meat is fresh it takes a little longer because it's fresh and cooked to order the meat isn't sitting there all day they cut the meat fresh. If you're in a rush this isn't the place to go for a quick lunch go and take your time enjoy the homey atmosphere and say hi to Felix he's a nice guy he even offered me a shot of tequila he is so awesome their Taco salads are out of this world and so are their gorditas and burritos they also have the best beans and rice. I have never been to another mexican food place (and I love mexican food) that makes a torta like this place. Their carne asada fries are some of the best i've had too. My only complaint is that there are no real hours, so sometimes at lunch time you get there, and they aren't open yet and I starve waiting for them to open, but once its opened up, I am happy and fed :) read more

Had the chile rellenos, rice and beans combo over the weekend. Rice and beans were just ok, but IMO the rellenos were not at all OK. Some may like seeds in their chile rellenos, but I don't like crunching on them with each bite. Also, not much cheese inside. Instead of wrapping the chiles in batter, it looked like they wrapped a scrambled egg omelet around the chile. This obviously is their technique, but it's not the way I like chile rellenos, so I was very disappointed. Basically ate half and threw the rest away. I love rellenos and order them in every mexican restaurant I go to. Papi's may have other great food, but I will not be going to this place again. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. My husband and I have been coming here since 2005 and Felix always knows it's me when I call in an order. There is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Paso whether they are holes in the wall or complete sit down experiences but Papis has something for everyone and they keep it simple. They're close to downtown (like a block away from the park). Our go-to meal always is burritos but Felix has won awards for his pork tacos. Hailed by Sunset magazine and recently won "best of the best" for Mexican food in paso, Papis offers full servings of a variety of Mexican food with fresh ingredients. You can pick up (faster) or dine in. There is patio seating with great people watching views. Order at the counter, get your own beer from the self serve cooler or a cold soda, find a table and relax. Your name will be called when your food is ready. Friendly staff adds to the awesomeness. This is a great place to grab food to go for watching a parade downtown or to take to park and chill under an oak tree. This time I had the chicken enchilada meal and the chicken was cook and seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of cheese and sauce. My husband had the shrimp, which is one of his favorite dishes, so he is very picky about and he loved it. My daughter had the posole bowls, she is used to her grandma's home made posole so she said that it was ok. My son just the quesadilla kids meal which was perfectly portioned for him. I went twice in two days - it was that good! The shrimp cocktail is in a five scoop ice cream bowl and has enough for the whole dining room. They poach the shrimp in a tomato broth and you can get octopus, too. If you really really like octopus, then you will love this. Next time maybe I would just get the shrimp. Also, shrimp tacos for $3 - fabulous. Handmade corn tortilla, plenty of lettuce and guac and sour cream. Anything seafood here is awesome. The burritos are plate sized. Nice, fresh salsa bar. No cocktails, and a good 20 minute wait, but the food is fresh and authentic and very good. Don't fill up on chips! Using Yelp we discovered a sandwich worth making us a regular! The Torta Ahogada was amazing. I have to talk about this roll!
