Carne Asada Taco/Salsa
Stephen A.

I have been to Papi's a couple of times. If you have not read one of my reviews before, you should know that I am very particular about my Mexican food. When you look at my reviews, you will see almost all are 5 star. That is because I hate writing bad reviews. So, chances are, if I'm writing a review, I was pretty impressed, or extremely unimpressed. Papi's as a restaurant is just what you want in a counter order Taqueria. It's a hole in the wall. There are tables, the requisite mexican decorations, a self serve Soda machine, and a counter with the kitchen visible behind it. The kitchen is usually staffed by one cook, and he occasionally also runs the counter. The first time I went to Papi's, I got a Chile Relleno and Cheese Enchilada combo with Rice & Beans. It was decent, but not to the level where I wanted to write a review. However, my friend ordered the Torta Ahogada, and I was fascinated. Mow, I've had my share of Tortas, but this one looked special. Since then, I've been back twice just for the Torta Ahogada, once to sus it out, and a second time to make sure I wasn't dreaming. The last time was on August 25th, 2024. I ordered the Torta Ahogada with Carnitas. The thing about this Torta is that they put sauce on the flat top and grill the outside of the bread. Inside is a copius quantity of Carnitas, Shredded Lettuce, Tomato Slices, Avocado, Onion, and Mayonnaise. Some people may not like the Mayo. Some may not like the Onion. Some may not like spicy Bread that burns your lips. However, the combination of all these things in this Torta is magical. I cannot say more. My wife ordered Carnitas and Carne Asada Tacos and enjoyed them. They have a good selection of homemade Salsas.

Best Cheeseburger in Paso Robles... look at that! Wow!

You wouldn't think it but this place has the best cheeseburgers in Paso Robles! I'm not kidding... hand patted 100% beef burgers! My wife says they are the best! Juicy... large... perfect burger! Try it for yourself! Look at the photo... real images don't lie! I do a double patty! Our server is always nice and helpful! The atmosphere is a Mexican Restaurant... but the Cheeseburger is from the grill that cooks all that wonderful food! Check it out!

Quick review. Decent food that's a bit too expensive in my opinion. There are no frills here. They even charge you for the chips. I'm just passing through town for a few days so I don't think I'll be back. The only real downside to this restaurant is that the service is somewhat on the unfriendly side. You can tell the cashier did not want to be at work and didn't try very hard to hide it.

Hidden little gem in downtown Paso Robles with great Mexican food! Definitely recommend coming here. Restaurant is small but super clean and great customer service. We had menudo, tacos (forgot to take a picture) and carnitas plate. Everything was delicious!! Our family's favorite spot.

Full-Plates of Chili Verde Wet Burrito & two Shrimp Enchiladas. ¡Muy grande y delicioso!

It is always a pleasure to enjoy a meal at Papi's. This eatery serves genuine, authentic Mexican cuisine that is robust with flavor. Their offerings are superior in taste and quality compared to many other Mexican restaurants. The restaurant has an open, bright interior with pleasing images on the walls with festive music playing in the background. Dogs are welcome when dining in the semi-enclosed outdoor patio. Ask the cashier for a water bowl for your furry companion. Their savory chile verde is the best in the county. The shrimp enchiladas are full of chopped large shrimp chunks instead of the tiny, flavorless Bay shrimp one finds in many places. They offer a large salsa/condiment bar to add more authentic flavors & garnishes to one's meal. To quote the owner, Feliz, "See you tomorrow!" We will be back.

The shredded beef was so flavorful in the enchiladas and the salsa bar was solid. Definitely would come back.

I was delightfully surprise by the taste of their Fajitas. Likewise, my son loved the Burritos he ordered. Restroom was clean too.

Great food, good prices, great self serve salsa-pico bar. Great menu selections. Nothing fancy. Good food trumps the ambience for me.

Worst most leathery fajitas I've had in my life. Just terrible. You'd do better eating bush meat. Tough, bland, seemingly boiled meat.

They also fry the tortillas a little bit which is always a touch I appreciate. The birria ramen was amazing. Hot (not spicy) filling, and super flavorful. The birria was tender and juicy. I kept expecting to get to only broth, but kept getting pleasantly surprised to find more ramen. The cooking area looked very clean. The seating area was clean too but I noticed a few stains on the table I sat at. Minor nitpick. I was getting takeout anyway so it wasn't a problem. I will definitely become a regular. If for whatever reason the food doesn't sit well, I'll update my review!

It was sprinkling that day and this patio area was covered but had openings. So I had to get a hoodie and blankets to stay warm. We were the only ones there so surprised that it took awhile but I'll wait for good food. We started with chips and salsa, which were really crispy and freshly made. They also gave us a tray of three sauces and napkins. We ordered a carne asada quesadilla. Great portion and not light on the meat. We also had kiss Siberia plates three of those and we shared this came with five Quesabirria tacos. I'd say about the size of a street taco it came with of course the consume. It was delicious crispy lots of meat. My daughter got the kids quesadilla also a nice serving we drank water, but my one son got Horchata and that was fire.

Taqueria Jalisco - The carnitas are actually cooked correctly and traditionally and you can taste the difference. Kudos to them.

Not knowing where to eat on Good Friday, we decided to try a small hole-in-the-wall spot after…read morereading several positive reviews. There are a few things worth noting. First, the restaurant is quite small with a very quiet atmosphere--surprisingly so, especially with a jukebox that wasn't in use. The space didn't feel particularly clean, and the chairs were outdated and could definitely use some refurbishing. When we received the menus, I was honestly shocked by the prices. This is something I wish more reviewers had mentioned. We ordered a shrimp tostada (about $13) and shrimp fajitas (around $24). The shrimp tostada was disappointing--the shrimp was chopped so finely that it was hard to tell it was even there. It was overwhelmed by cucumber, tomato, and cilantro. The fajitas were similarly underwhelming: the shrimp were cut in half and curled up, with maybe around ten pieces total, but there was an excessive amount of large-cut onions and bell peppers, which made the dish less enjoyable. On the positive side, the staff was friendly, and the horchata we ordered was excellent. I did mention that the bell peppers were overabundant and cut too thick, but my feedback didn't seem to go anywhere. One concern I had was seeing staff handle multiple tasks--taking payments, cleaning tables, and serving food--without ever noticing handwashing, which was a bit off-putting. I'm not completely writing this place off, as I'd like to return and try their breakfast. Most reviews are positive, so perhaps this was just an off night. Still, given today's prices, I expect the quality to match. Beans were bland and rice was cold, I'm sure made way ahead of time. I'll update my thoughts after a second visit--judge for yourself in the meantime.

Tucked into the corner of a Starbucks location, this cute little spot is small but super inviting--and definitely lives up to the hype. As soon as we walked in, the place was clean and filled with the delicious smell of spices and fresh food. I ordered the chilaquiles (not listed on the menu, but they'll make it for you with your choice of meat or traditional eggs for the same price). I went with chili verde, and wow--I was not disappointed. It was loaded with meat, sauce, cheese, cilantro, onion, and sour cream. Absolutely worth the $13, and I'd 100% order it again--next time with al pastor! We also tried the chicken enchilada plate ($13), which was just as good. Great flavor, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese, and it came with rice and beans on the side. For drinks, they've got a wide selection, including alcoholic options. I grabbed a Jarritos--just a heads up, they're $3.50 each, a bit pricey, but ice cold and refreshing. Overall, this place was a hit for us. The waitress, Erma, was friendly, polite, and attentive--which, let's be honest, isn't always easy to find. The restaurant is clean, has plenty of seating, and judging by the steady flow of customers, it's definitely no secret anymore! Give it a try and see for yourself--I'm pretty sure you'll love it too.
