Tasty hidden gem in the downtown area, and close to the wine tasting rooms. Authentic and delicious food, super friendly service, and laid-back cantina style setting. Recommend the carnitas tacos. Some of the best Mexican food in town but horrible customer service. There have been many times over the last year that I have waited out front and they aren't even open by 12:30. What kind of restaurant is not open for lunch before noon? We have stood there with several other people on numerous occasions where everybody is talking poorly about their not being open while they are obviously inside preparing food. Everybody ends up leaving and going to another restaurant. They need to wake up earlier and get into the restaurant and have it open in time for lunch service! On the way home from Pismo beach, my husband and I decided to stop by Downtown Paso Robles to check the same tasting rooms we visited 2 years ago (Roxo, etc) and also grab lunch but all those tasting rooms have moved. Sadly, some of the stores have closed down and walking around town made that apparent. The old bustling downtown is no more. We were there Sunday around noon on a hot day in September. I was craving for chile relleno and saw Papi's had good reviews so we decided to go there for lunch. I'm glad we did. Their food is really delicious. I really enjoy Mexican restaurants that offer seafood. They offer fish, shrimp, carne asada, carnitas and pollo for meat. They offer vast selection of food in their menu. All sounded delicious. I had the chile relleno platter: it came with refried beans, and spanish rice. My husband had camaron a la diabla: it also came with rice and beans. The shrimp sauce was amazing! We also shared an order of chicken gordita. I love how the gordita shell was made in the house. Wish I could have tried everything on the menu but perhaps in the near future again. Papi's definitely is a good reason to visit and/or stop by Downtown Paso Robles. read more

Torta. Torta. Torta. This is definitely a go to place when I'm back in town or wanting to take out some visitors. I'll be the first to admit that it isn't the most authentic mexican food around(esp now that I live in LA), but it's still good. The carne asada fries are good, too, but definitely get the torta. Everything else is just okay, and yes, if you don't get the torta, you won't understand all the high ratings. In Paso Robles for the weekend, and decided to stop in for lunch. I ordered the Carnitas Torta, and it was fantastic. The carnitas were done just right - great flavor, tender, and crispy edges. The huge roll was loaded with meat, avocado, and other tasty fresh garnishes. I added some more of their nice spicy salsa inside, as well as some additional chopped onion and cilantro. Bought a meal to set in outside dining area. As soon as my food came a lady who was not eating came inside the fenced area and started smoking. As I have asthma and it is not legal to smoke in eating areas I went inside and asked Felix the owner to ask the smoker to leave. He told me I could have a box for my food and take it home. The place was not incredibly busy although based on the 45 minute wait after ordering for not only myself but everyone around me one might think you were in for something special. Papi's is one of my favorite restaurants in Paso Robles. I am VERY picky of where i eat and what I consume, and I have to say that Papi's is all aces. Their burritos are awesome, and their meals cant be easily beat. Their salsa bar is awesome, and always has fresh salsa, which comes in a variety of flavors. the pricing is about normal for a Mexican restaurant, and is worth EVERY cent. The owner / Cook is always friendly and welcoming to his customers, and just from a quick conversation, one can tell that he is truly happy and grateful to see them. I have been going to Papi's for around 2 years, and will continue to go there whenever I am in Paso, and am in the mood for some GREAT Mexican food. read more

I love this place and my family and I keep coming back. It's kinda a hole in the wall, but it's clean and their food is really good. So far I've only really tried their tortas and fish tacos. Papi's is my go to Mexican restaurant in PR. It's very casual, in the since that you walk up and order your food which is brought out to you or they'll call your order out and you can grab it yourself. They have a self serve salsa bar and a walk up cooler to grab your beer or soda. I've had some long wait times, but nothing to crazy. Oh yeah their hamburgers are really good too. read more

My husband and I just left this establishment and we couldn't be more disappointed. Being from the San Diego area, we like to think we know a thing or two about tacos and tortas. After waiting for 30 minutes we finally received our tortas and one asada taco. The tortas barely had any meat in them and were filled with far too many onions. The bread was good, but that's all we could taste due to the lack of meat. The asada in the taco was chewy and the tortilla was hard. Such a bummer! read more
