Happy Cinco! When it comes to the Mexican food scene in Anchorage, some specialize in food, while some specialize in margaritas/tequila only. That leaves us with a small handful of places that do both Mexican food and drinks decently. Panchos Villa executes both well, in my humble opinion. Panchos Villa does a great job at handling their lunch rush. Waitresses are always welcoming and efficient. Food is consistently cooked to order, hot and flavorful. This visit, we had a serious language barrier when trying to inquire about available brews on tap. Even brew that we were told by the bartender, was on tap, was still brought to us in bottle form. Other than that small hiccup, still recommend Panchos Villa.

Service was poor and inattentive. Food quality is bad. It's on the side of tex-mex done poorly but not as bad as prison food. Definitely not authentic. Strong cumin tastes in everything accompanied by dry rice and sad refried beans. If you want decent tacos, taquitos or chiles rellenos this is not place.

Love this place, I've never had a bad experience. Staff is friendly food is good and drinks are strong and plentiful. This is a good place for a quick bite, dinner date, or even a date! With good company and the friendly staff the old building and windowless atmosphere make the experience all that more authentic and enjoyable! Favorite place for Mexican food in the state for sure!

I had the fried halibut on the appetizer menu, it was great. My husband had a combo plate, he was dissatisfied. He likes his Colorado green chili on his Mexican food. Have not been able to find green chili in Alaska. Lol! Service was good. Rating based on my husbands disappointment.

Spicy Michelada

Came across this spot while walking back to my rental house. I wanted a michelada and decided to try it here. The restaurant is very clean with a friendly atmosphere. I sat at the bar and even tho the bartender was not available to make my michelada the lady that greeted us was super nice. I did try a spicy Michelada different that what am used to but will try it again and maybe with some food.

I was born and raised on the south side and had never heard of this place. I recently came back home to visit from moving away 6 years ago and decided to check Yelp because my old favorite, La Mex had closed and I wasn't craving the capitalized Gallos/Taco King (even though they are very delicious too) This place popped up and we went last night! SOOOOO GOOD. Not sure why more people don't talk about this place although they might be and I just don't live here or hang on this side of town much. However, it's definitely worth the trip! Anchorage people if you haven't tried this place, run don't walk! Great atmosphere, great chips and salsa, great margaritas, great service, and most importantly incredible food!

The best, made in-house tortilla chips and salsa! I loved their chx chipotle meal as well! Can't be beat, probably the best Mexican in town.

We were in Anchorage after an Alaskan cruise. It was so great to have GOOD and TASTY food again…read more We sat in the bar, and Ali was our server/bartender! We could not have asked for anyone better! I ordered the amazing fish and chips (substituting tots), and my daughter had loaded tots, ravioli, and macaroni and cheese. Everything was delicious! We cannot wait to go back!

No frills atmosphere but creative selection of food and drinks. The inside is quite diner-like and…read moremakes you feel like you're really in a roadhouse. Seating is made up of booths along the window perimeter, tables thru the middle area and a large bar area with more tables and stools along the counter. The menu selection is surprisingly diverse. I was happy to see halibut as the fish for their fish & chips, as it is often cod or other white fish. I find halibut to be the best. They also have a few dishes with nods to Korean and Thai flavors. There are pizzas and dinner salads too. I went with their bacon jam burger for dinner. It is cooked to your liking and has a grilled apple, cambozola, bacon jam, arugula & house mayo. This is the best burger I've had in a long time. The flavors complement each other so well. If you are a fan of bleu cheese you will really love the cambozola. It is creamy and oozy and is amazing on a burger. My spouse tried their Cuban sandwich and didn't like that the pickles were mediocre and didn't add to the overall flavors, and that the bread wasn't crisped or toasted in any way -- the way Cubans traditionally are. He also took a chance with a appetizer off the specials menu which he imaged was Brussels sprouts however it was shaved sautéed Brussels sprout leaves, over warm couscous with lots of fresh herbs, jalapeños, and heavily spiced with bold spices like fennel. It was bizarre and not like anything we've ever tried. We liked some of the flavors but all together didn't make sense to us so we sent it back, unfortunately. Our child tried the Mac and cheese that came with purple grapes and sorbet. The Mac and cheese was good although I'd advise SRH to try a larger noodle than a small shell so kids can stab it better and get it in their little mouths. The sorbet must be seasonal/rotating bc it was cinnamon honey pear and it was crazy delicious. I'd come back for just the sorbet tbh. Other than that our red-haired bespectacled server was fairly attentive and quite friendly, even on a very busy Friday dinner rush. Parking lot just outside seems easy enough as long as you can grab a spot at busy times. Will be back in the future for the fried halibut (and sorbet!).
