Head just past the reception desk and a few beautiful art galleries and you'll find yourself at Whale's Tail, a bar/restaurant where good food, great drinks and live music stand out. You'll always find a good drink and there's "nothing gross on the menu" as one waitress put it. I have found their staff to be highly knowledgeable in wine and drink selection, happy to answer any questions. Their food is really good and at Alaska prices (there's always a theme here with my reviews) you pretty much break even. It's comfort food but served in a more elegant fashion. It might just be the white table cloths, candles and dim lights, who really knows it still tastes great. If you're in the mood for some delicious comfort food with healthier options and not at Crow's Neat prices, you might just find Wail's Tail is your place to be! They have a large choice of food items and they serve breakfast all day. We ordered corn fritters w honey butter to try. They were amazing! I had two and could have eaten more but my dinner hadn't come out yet. I ordered the Halibut fish & chips. I was impressed how tasty they were. Perfectly fried and seasoned well. The tartar sauce was good. The cole slaw was okay so I tried the potato salad which was better. Overall great meal! Since we had a large party, they ran out of desserts before I had a chance to order. The 17 kids in the group were able to get order desserts, the adults did not. No worries. The trip was for the kids.

But so many options makes the possibilities feel almost endless. The bacon is crispy. If you like your bacon chewy, maybe ask for it that way. I like mine crispy and it's been that way EVERY SINGLE TIME. YAY! - - THE DOWNSIDE The decaf coffee is not great. I've had it three times and I think it's instant coffee, maybe? Whatever it is, it's bad. In a state with so much great coffee, this seems like a point that shouldn't be bad. Sigh* The over medium eggs are really over easy. This is a bummer. The diner of Alaska that can make me true over medium eggs will forever earn my patronage. - - Conclusion It's okay the coffee is bad, because they had a porter on tap which was almost like drinking an iced coffee. At least that's what I'm going with. =]
