This is my number one go too and the best date night spot in the Anchorage, Eagle River and Wasilla. Make the drive and enjoy this amazing Steakhouse.

Most often, I leave a steak house thinking I could make a better steak for a fraction of the price at home. This was not the case here. The service was also good, which is a nice change for the area. We live here and quite frankly, the service in the Anchorage area is usually pretty marginal. So, that was a pleasant surprise. However, the sides are quite expensive and billed as "family style" but they are a single serving really. The exception was the Parker House rolls which I think came out 5 to an order. They were pulled apart and the sides of the rolls were dry, as if they had been plated up and set under a heat lamp for too long. The risotto was prepared incorrectly. It was mushy with no hint of the classic al dente. I think if they can't take the time to cook that dish correctly, they should consider taking it off the menu as it is a marker for a good meal in my opinion. The wedge salad was pretty standard fare, with a couple of heirloom tomato slices that were also mushy (although, I can forgive that given where we live as the lettuce was crisp and nice) The other side we ordered was a special, fiddlehead ferns, served braised. They were tasty, and the best non steak item we had, but a small portion and, I think $23, which seemed quite expensive. I think the next time we go, we will just share a steak with a glass of wine and skip the overpriced 15-25 side dishes.

Each dish was different and excellent, albeit the ravioli was essentially fancy mozzarella sticks. Not a lot of crab for the price, but it is market price after all-- hit or miss. Overall the vibes were good, the food tasty, a very memorable experience for us.

Other staff walked right past us without so much as a "someone will be right with you," which set a pretty uncomfortable tone right off the bat. We eventually got seated, but even with the restaurant being pretty empty it still took a while before a server showed up to the table. Our server wasn't rude or anything, but the energy was just completely flat. It felt like he could not care less about being there. Sodas got refilled once the entire night. Between being seated and appetizers, and again between appetizers and our entrees, he was basically nowhere to be found. The thing that really got me was being asked if we wanted boxes while our plates were still full and we were just sitting there having a conversation, never once offering to top off our drinks until we finally asked. It's a shame because the food really was solid and the restaurant itself has a nice warm vibe to it. ORSO clearly has a lot going for it and on a different night with more attentive service it could easily be a 4 or 5 star experience. For now it's hard to rate it higher than a 3 when the service makes what should be a really nice dinner feel like an afterthought.

The food: Portions are huge, the burgers are great, Mac n cheese isn't too shabby either. REALLY good fries. I hear they cut their own steaks in house but personally I haven't ordered one, the picture below was a friends and kinda tough. If you like an adult beverage, they've got a well stocked bar with local beers and a decent whiskey selection The French Onion Soup was really good. I've had worse and haven't had much better I didn't care for seared tuna but appreciated the creative liberty with the sauce Here's the real deal.....I like this place. The food isn't going to win a Michelin Star but you can tell the Kitchen is invested in the craft. The restaurant is relaxed, casual, and the people are super friendly. If you're in business attire just leaving work or bibs and boots leaving the river....this place is for you.

So I did exactly that -- nothing out of line. Suddenly, a worker that I'm familiar with named Joe , cussed me out, and kicked me out in front of everyone. Totally unprofessional and uncalled for. I wasn't being rude, I wasn't causing problems -- just following what I'd been told on previous visits. This review is not the for the restaurant itself but more for the specific worker that I've had a multiple issues with before.
