I actually really like this place, free pool on Mondays a great rotation of Karaoke nights, you'll often find a live band playing on the weekend and they have a FREE taco bar on Tuesdays!!! Super friendly bartenders, and quick to get service. Not a huge selection on tap but let's be honest you're not hitting up a dive in Spenard for the craft beer....its for the Spenard "Ambiance" *pro tip* Keep your eye on their socials for great party events!! Happened to ride the carousel on FREE TACO Tuesday with a friend. 15 patrons @ 6p. Really friendly regulars. Three pool tables, full surround bar, 8 large TVs and main Big screen center room with a small performance area in front of it (I'll reserve it at some point in the future). Pull Tabs available. Awesome prices for air fryer snacks and munchies (for AK prices). Outside open patio and fire pit seating for smokers. read more

Nice environment and live music in this little place in Spenard. Very friendly people and a good variety of drinks and beer on tap. There is Pool and other games. It has enough parking spaces too. We came to hear the wonderful and new to me band "The Jephries" This other time we went to the artsy Spenard festival with art wxpositio from locals and a classic piano player with a drummer plus 3 other bands. I have good news! The Carousel is under new ownership and it is a vast improvement. I stopped coming here years ago, as it was a dark and dirty place with a less that respectable crowd. I heard they were reopened with a new owner. My husbands band was hired tonight so I went along to see what, if anything had changed. Oh yes. It is open, well lit and clean. The staff is friendly and the people are fun. It is a totally different experience, and I would recommend to anyone looking for that cozy "dive bar" neighborhood place. Side note: 4 real dart boards and 2 pool tables (quarters) and live music (check on dates/bands) UPDATE!!!! ITS NOT CLOSED ANYMORE!! It's open and awesome! read more

This is your standard old-school Alaska dive bar. Older guys growing roots into the bar, with a pint class AND a shot glass in front of them. Mediocre tap selection. Scratch off gambling galore. Lots of people drinking about of bottles. Free snacks (in this case, pretzles). All the other food is pretty much fried. All-in-all, it's alright. They had Union Jack IPA in the bottle which is a step up from most joints like this. Bartender was also exceedingly friendly. read more

I've been a couple times now and this last time we met the owner. There is another review that hated on him a little bit, but he seemed like a decent enough drunk owner when we met him. He introduced himself, got all of our names, even joked around a bit when he couldn't hear me when I said my name, he thanked us for coming in, and then proceeded to put $10 in the juke box and let us pick the music. I'm pretty picky when it comes to dive bars. A few of my dive bar requirements are: 1. Carpet - CHECK 2. Some sort of wood paneling - CHECK 3. Dark, dingy, and possibly a faint weird smell - CHECK 4. Neon signs - CHECK 5. String lights - CHECK (I'm counting this because the tiny disco balls on the ceiling creates the illusion of tons of string lights) 6. Crazy/interesting locals - CHECK 7. Cozy/forced to be uncomfortable in a small space - (this place is pretty massive, there is also a random stage in the corner) 8. No food - CHECK (but BONUS points for free pretzels) 9. Juke box with decent music - CHECK (this is a barely check for me - too many country options, what won me over was Savage Garden - I secretly love Savage Garden!) 10. Decent but more on the side of standard/poor beer choices - CHECK (however they had a better selection than I thought) 11. Bartenders who can hold their own - CHECK (there is always a crazy that makes everyone uncomfortable and they aren't afraid to lay down the law so their more sober paying patrons are comfortable) Please note: According to some random note written in sharpie marker on the pedestal of the womens bathroom sink, someone hides their drugs between the wall and the back of the sink. I wish I would've taken my phone to the bathroom with me so I could've taken a photo. If I could give it a 3.5 I would, but I'm bumping it up to a 4 purely based on my dive bar check list and the over powering dive bar feel/this place is a little weird feel it puts off. I've been here a couple times, and The Carousel has a couple identities. The staff and service is great, but the crowd can really vary. The popcorn was stale the last time I visited.... I dont attend bars at all. Work too much and busy as heck. However, I gotta say the the people that work at the Carousel are awesome down to earth people. Professional and friendly. Irene the bartender is an awesome caring person. She's a genuine spirit filled Christian as is the owner. Really good people. The customers are diverse from all walks of life and friendly too. Since the New owner, it is like a big family neighborhood place to enjoy friends as it is also very clean. I was reading some of the other reviews and noticed someone said theres racism there. That is a lie and so far from the truth. As I already said , tge Carousel Lounge is diverse and every customer is treated with the utmost respect and like family. I know in today's world the media likes to emphasize a false narrative and exaggerate on what fits their narrative, while ignoring News that should be covered but they don't. Its sad that there are people who fall into the trap of name calling and judging others on their own perception, which is highly influenced by much of the anti-American and biased media today. Not one person that works for The Carousel Lounge nor the owners are racists. They are all genuine Christians and love people...All people ! A persons good character is what makes them. Nobody cares what color their skin is. Only ignorant people foolishly think along the lines of superficial things like skin color or whatever their hangup is. The only ones that would tend to think that way are the ones pointing their fingers and accusing others of what they themselves actually are. Again, thank God people for the most part are a lot more smarter and decent than that. My conclusion summary is that its A Great neighborhood bar, Clean, Diverse...ALL WELCOME AND RESPECTED, Great Professional and friendly workstaff and genuine Christians...Like one big happy family...Pool tables too, Good bands, darts etc . It's a great bar, new owners, clean, good people. The chic who claims the bar is racist, mostly likely has a mental disorder, most likely a left wing radical male hater hater anyway so don't listen to her. Actually, interesting this bar caters to a whole bunch of eclectic folks. Living in London for some time, it reminds me of a bohemian type of bar which caters to people from the working class, bikers to queers. Everybody seems to get along. After a long flight to Alaska, we arrived in Anchorage around 12am. We were tired as hell, but needed to stretch our legs and down a few cocktails. Our Hotel told us about this place so we walked down the street to this bar. Im glad we did, the beer was cold, the cocktails were mixed well and the décor was just what we were looking for! A dive bar!!! Gotta love it!!! Our server was easy on the eyes and made a stiff drink for a great price! The place is quite dark, but it didn't bother me much at all. The food here is just quick and easy fried foods, so if ur looking for a meal, try somewhere else. We ended up going to a 24 hour diner a few miles away. But this is a great place to stop when u hop off the plane and are ready for a cocktail! read more

Not digging this bar stoped by with a few friends after a bbq party I was their DD friends ended up ordering a few shots plus two Red Bull .
