The lamb shank is phenomenal -- don't miss out if you're a carnivore! Only knocked a star because the service wasn't stellar. I placed a drink order that was never delivered. The waitress also warned that the chocolate cake takes a long time, so we asked if she could check in with us between courses, which she forgot, so it was frustrating to wait much longer than originally intended. Booked a table last minute and everything was perfect. Our server did not give her name but was nice and everyone else was also attentive. It was not too packed for a Wednesday night and the ambiance was very intimate. I tried their Caesar salad for the first time and it was OK. I wouldn't order it unless I was really craving it. My ravioli's had a very runny sauce which was not my favorite but did have great taste overall. The chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream is a MUST order every time I dine at Pace. I have a tesla and don't have the key card but every valet in LA knows you can still work the car without it. They all were being super unhelpful saying i cant leave my car there. I think they were upset they wouldn't have in and out access without my permission. When i came back out the valet attendant was huffing and puffing that he had to go get the car. I saw that he used another car to get mine but he drove that car super recklessly.Not really sure what his deal was. Our waiter was nice but honestly was missing. If you have ever driven through Laurel Canyon, you have definitely see this local gem, right next to the Country Mart. The atmosphere is so pleasing and allusive. Their pizza's are pretty incredible and always try and go for the truffle pie, when it's available. The Peace pie is a great sharable option for everyone. For Dessert, you're not going to want to pass on this. Go for their Chocolate Souffle. It takes about 45min to prepare, but it's fantastic and worth it. Their staff is very friendly too. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday recently, and while the food was quite good the service was extremely lacking. Throughout the entire meal we watched as the owner moved from table to table, conversing with every single customer except for us. Our waitress also avoided us, practically doting on other tables. When we ordered, she spoke only to me and completely ignored my boyfriend. At one point I ordered drinks and she left without asking for my boyfriend's order, I then had to flag her down a second time to give the order. We received the incorrect drink. It should be noted that my boyfriend and I dress in a non traditional fashion, and that we strongly believe the staff to be borderline discriminating against us for not looking like your average upscale restaurant guest. Overall we found the experience awkward, and found ourselves almost regretting leaving a tip. For a restaurant with an "artistic vibe", one would think they'd be less judgmental of patrons who present outside the norm. read more

Showed up at 6:30 for our reservation. Upon checking in the young woman at the stand said she didn't have my reservation. She and another gentleman together at the just stand attempted to find it with simply my name. Asked if it could be under another name. I said no and showed her my email confirmation. She asked for my phone number and then said she located the reservation. Went on to explain another "Nancy" checked in and they thought it was me. Not sure how that happens. Even if there were 2 of us. I highly doubt there were 2 reservations with the same name both at 6:30 and party of 3. I even indicated that it was my anniversary and she commented that she told the other Nancy happy anniversary and that she said thank you! Honestly the whole ordeal was so unprofessional and got our night started on such an odd and uncomfortable vibe. They then walked us to our table which was through the restaurant. Past the bar. Outside. And to the very back part of this outdoor space. I didn't want outside but they decided I did. The spot was actually quaint and cute so we decided to make the best of it. Unfortunately where I sat had me facing Laurel Canton at street level. Any and every car and I mean EVERY car that came up the canyon and past the restaurant involved me being nearly blinded by their headlights. If you are at this back table outside - do not sit facing the street. We had 3 people in our party at a table for 4. So no matter what - someone was going to have to experience this so I took one for the team and spent the entire meal looking down any time cars were passing. The service was cold. Unwelcoming and just underwhelming on every way. Efficient. But that was the highlight. We ordered the bread basket. the chopped salad. we also shared a peace pie. The lasagna. The grilled chicken. And the tortellini. All just ok. The salad has garbanzo beans that were so hard they felt more like nuts. The grilled chicken said it had a balsamic sauce. Didn't see or taste that anywhere. Was mostly just bland and unremarkable. The lasagna is fantastic. And the Tortellini said it had brown butter and sage and it came served in a very white creamy sauce that also lacked any real flavor. It wasn't that it was bad. It just wasn't great. We ate and talked and enjoyed the time together but there never a moment our server checked in. Never a moment that impressed us. We've eaten here before. I do think if you are in this small outside area - you lose the character and charm and vibes of the entire place. Outside there you could honestly be anywhere. Add the cars passing by and discomfort of the lights. My night felt like I simply took a picnic to the side of a road. Disappointed to say the least. And while I never expect a restaurant to ever do anything for me I don't arrange and pay for. Upon making the reservation they ask if you are celebrating anything. I noted it was mine and my husbands 22nd wedding anniversary and beside the hostess mentioning she wished the "other Nancy" a happy anniversary- it was never brought up or acknowledged again. And that's ok. But worth noting. We won't be returning anytime soon and I'm sure nobody there will miss the business or care. They were plenty busy. But what was supposed to be a little bit of a special and out of ordinary dinner experience for us for a special occasion really fell flat and left us feeling cold and unwelcome and disappointed. read more

Overall a delicious meal in a beautiful part of LA. It would fall into the hidden gem category for me as it's too small to host the large amounts of tourists or the college crowd like some other places can/usually do, but that can be a good thing sometimes. Parking is very hard in this area so valet is the best bet ($10), but the lot they use is very small so when crowded you may have to wait a bit. Our server was a bit inattentive and took awhile to come to our table, but she was very nice and all the busers were so quick with the refills and removing the plates it made up for it. I love the look of the place on the inside, it's brick lined with fish tanks on the walls and darkly lit which really creates a welcoming mood and would be great for a date but also works for casual as well. I started off with the appetizer special, the Dungeness Crab & Buratta and it was very good. The crab was a great start to the meal although it was a bit expensive. For my entrée I chose the local Red Snapper which was truly delicious and cooked perfectly. I ate every bit of it and would get it again. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great meal at a more off the usual path location. Came here to celebrate my birthday! I ordered the lamb shank and it was deliciously tender and fall off the bone. I also ordered potato puree and roasted veggies on the side. Sauce was a bit salty, but it's okay. My boyfriend ordered the salmon and he said it was tender, but lacking in flavor. They didn't salt the fish much, and they tried to recover from that by adding those toppings onto of the fish. He also did not like his asparagus because the outer layer was tough to chew threw. He didn't eat it at all. I'm sad he didn't like it, but he was too humble not to say anything. The waiter brought me free cookies for my birthday. I originally thought the center where the candle was, was vanilla ice cream. It's just whipped cream. Wholesome for that waiter to get us this. Overall, the experience and ambiance was lovely. Extremely disappointing night. This review is long overdue. A little back story: My boyfriend and I used to love to come here often for special occasions. The restaurant used to symbolize something very serene, secluded and special to us. He reserved Valentine's Day months in advanced and was very excited to take me back here. Once seated we noticed there was a preset Valentine's Day menu. The price was written $120 per person at the top in pencil, and never stated when making the reservation. After discovering this we still decided to stay and enjoy the night. We were served water, our waiter took our order, and then disappeared for 45minutes! After returning from a bathroom break, I sat down and noticed we were wrongly served our entrees before our 1st course. We let our waiter know of the mistake. He was surprised, but then apologized and he'll take care of it. We patiently waited for an additional 15 minutes before receiving our 1st course. At this point, we have waited an hour for our just the 1st course!! We ordered Pea soup and a deconstructed pizza for our first course. The food was underwhelming given our ridiculously long wait. As we receive our entree, we noticed incorrect items being served to us. Frustrated at this point, we let the waiter know that we didn't order a particular side. He responded by saying they made substitutions because they ran out of the sides we ordered. Granted, they never discussed any of this with us! Disappointed and annoyed with the entire situation, I barley touched my food. My boyfriend went to let the manager know about this disaster of a meal. When our waiter returns his attitude was noticeably different. He was very short with us and barley held eye contact. WTF! The place we once loved was leaving such a bad taste in our mouths. We ate our desert and at that point just wanted to leave. We take our check to the manager and he says he will compensate us for our bad experience. I would expect the manager to have some empathy and understanding of the situation. Instead, he was abrasive and lacked the customer service you would expect from an intimate establishment. I thought the manger would speak with grace and come from a apologetic perspective but instead he was harsh, didn't seem like he cared about our experience. We left heart broken, annoyed, disappointed and starving. What a waste of our money and time! I came here this past Friday evening around 6 PM with my friends to see if we could get a table for my birthday without a reservation. Our expectations for getting a table were pretty low and the restaurant was definitely crowded, but the host and hostess at the front made an amazing effort and were able to put together a table for us, even bringing in an extra table and chairs. I was really impressed by the amazing service throughout the night, including bringing out a plate of cookies and whipped cream for the table with a birthday candle. The ambiance of the restaurant was also really cool: it is dark, nice 70s music playing (not loud), and very attractive LA people at all the tables (lol). In addition to the service, the food was just simply amazing. I had the salmon with the pureed potatoes and spinach, and it was the most amazing fish meal I've ever had. I do not typically order the fish dish at a restaurant, but there was something that sounded good about the salmon, so I went ahead and got it. Best decision! Everyone else at my table enjoyed their meals, including the pizza, salad, and a pasta dish. Was here last night for a group bday dinner (Fri 1/21/22) . They checked my vax card upon arrival. Interior is dimly lit with the walls covered in patron artwork. I felt like our round table of 8 was so uncomfortably close to the table next to us. :/ I was able to try 2 pizzas and my pasta dish. The tagliatte was perfect ! I highly recommend it. The cream wasn't overpowering the noodles and it was just the right amount of peas and prosciutto. A friend ordered the rigatoni and I tried that but I preferred my dish. Out of the two pizzas ordered for the table, I enjoyed Aphrodite best. I didn't order the pizzas and the menu says it comes with green beans and basil pesto but I didn't taste or see either. The other pizza had onions, sausage or meatballs and that one was ok... This place isn't close to me but if I find myself in the area, I'd return for the tagliatte! I have never written a review of a restaurant before, but me and my wife had such a terrible experience that we believe is important others know. Our waiter offered us the lava cake as soon as we sat down, explaining that it took 30 minutes to cook. We decided to order it together with the rest fo the food. We finished the entire meal before dessert, and 30 minutes after eating, the lava cake had not only not come out, but not a single waiter had come to address us. Finally, I was able to flag someone down and we asked for the check since it was getting late, assuming the lava cake would not be included in the bill since it never came and our waiter disappeared. To our surprise, the lava cake was included int he bill. Once we saw this, we requested it to be taken out since it never came. Our new waiter called "the manager" to check with him. The manager of the night shift of December 4th is a guy that never quite introduced himself but has long black hair and glasses. We explained the situation to him, and he refused to take out the lava cake. I then proceeded to explain that if they charged the lava cake we would simply not leave a tip since we didn't consider it fair to be charged for something we never received. The manager proceeded to say "watch your tone" while standing over the table in a domineering way. This "manager" proceeded to say he would go check if it was true that it didn't come out. Surprised, I asked if he was calling us liars, to which he proceeded to respond "trust and verify, have you heard of it?" And walked away. After coming back and obviously realizing that we had not received the lava cake he proceeded to ignore me and solely interact with my wife instead without acknowledging my presence. When we were leaving, this manager realized we were planning on telling "Che", the GM of the restaurant, what occurred and he proceeded to pretend to send a voice note to the GM saying I had too much to drink. If anyone that works at Pace is actually reading this, please do check our bill and see how many inexistent drinks we had, or check the cameras to see me drink my entire bottle of water all night. We have never been disrespected to this level in a restaurant, live less than 10 minutes away, and are unfortunately never coming back. read more

I was excited to check this place out because several friends recommended it, but my experience was pretty sub-par. Food - Bread and olive oil was fantastic. We ordered an extra basket. - The olive and cheese appetizer was really good too. The olive itself was so delicious, flavorful, and didn't taste overly vinegary - Beet salad - loved it!! - Linguine alle vongolle - huge disappointment. The clams seemed slightly undercooked, the sauce wasn't memorable, and the pasta was a bit too al dente for my taste. I only had a few bites. - Bologonese - tasted pretty basic. Wasn't awful but didn't really stand out either. Service was fast but pretty unfriendly. The ambiance is pretty LA sceney, which might be a plus or minus depending on what you're into. All in all, it's definitely one of those places where the appetizers are better than the pasta. I'd give it a shot again and try a non-pasta option next time. read more

I hate to speak poorly about this place as we all talk about it as a community treasure but in practice it's expensive and very meh. Here is what Pace has going for it: amazing location, quaint, warm and tucked away in the perfect spot to be a charming community restaurant with little nuances that make it special. But now let's talk about the mediocre food. Giving it a "meh" is a very fair accounting. The flavors don't pop. Nothing I would want to order again. The muscles are okay. The Caesar salad has no bite. The lobster cannellini was passable. The price tag after parking for a party of two including two glasses of red wine and a glass of white wine was just under $300. I don't mind spending $150/head for dinner but for that price that food should at the very least be spectacular. So if you want ambiance and are willing to pay the price for it, Pace checks that box. But if you want a culinary experience like you would get with Petite - well, then, go to Petite. (I know I'm comparing French to Italian but those are the restaurants we were debating eating at when we ended up at Pace.) I wish more restaurants in LA cared more about their food. If Bestia can do it, others can too. read more
