It was fairly easy to make a reservation through Opentable, and I made a reservation for two people for my birthday dinner on Sunday night. I put on the notes that it's my bday so it'll be nice to get a nice table near the stage. I didn't have a high expectation, cos I'd never been to the place and I didn't make a call or anything. But wow, they definitely gave us a great table at the very front! As many reviewers had mentioned, the acoustic of the restaurant is really great. You can barely hear other people's conversations. There's a live jazz band playing, so you can really enjoy that. Although it made it slightly hard to hear what other nearby people say to you either, haha. Our server Dawson was a really great one! Very nice, very informative and just has a great vibe that made you feel comfortable to converse with him. We also asked if he could take a picture of us and he went above and beyond with taking our pictures haha. He took the table lamp as our additional "lighting". Such a great service! Dawson also made a few suggestions on food. We ordered the milk bun (so great!), the tiger prawns tostada (omg, my favorite of the night!), braised lamb pasta, pork belly risotto, and roasted broccolini. Everything was really good and really filled us up! We also got the "smokin old fashioned" and "Wake up and repeat" cocktails. It was plenty of food for us so we asked for a check. Dawson asked if we wanted a dessert but we were already full. He asked if it's ok to give us a lil treat for my bday. It was a really nice dessert :). Oh I forgot to mention that they also put a small bday card on the table for me. The prices of food and drinks are on the higher sides, but I feel like it's worth it due to the live music and the vibe. It easily covers the entertainment part. We definitely will go back and recommend this place for anyone who's looking into a nice date night or to celebrate something special. I was informed that Friday has more of a "party vibe" here, although it's still a jazz performance. Sunday feels more laid back :) Overall I'm really pleased by this place. The rooms and amenities are all updated however, and if you want to be close to Universal Studios or Studio City in general, this hotel is excellent. They even have a free trolley that runs hourly to/from Universal Studios and a LA bus terminal. Our 3-night stay during Memorial Day was great - comfortable rooms, beds, and friendly service. Rooms had plenty of storage space and charing ports, and wifi is free and fast. They also have an agenda of daily activities like group exercise classes, LA hot dog/taco nights, and classic movies next to the pool. Their main restaurant, Front Yard offers a daily breakfast buffet and ala carte brunch, lunch, and dinner. The only reason for the -1 stars is that their AC is an older, in-wall unit that gets loud when turned on. Outdoor Parking also isn't cheap at $50/night with in/out privileges but that may be typical for the area.

Our electric car was charging on site and we were running back and forth doing things for the wedding, setting up, etc. No one informed us that there would be an additional charge if we were still parked there after our car was done charging. $58 later and when we mentioned that in our review through the hotel, they said they'd comp our food bill, which was 2 drinks and a fruit bowl, probably $20+. This was disappointing to my mom, who went beyond her means to stay on site for the wedding. This was completely disappointing as we were traveling for a wedding that took place on site. 2 of us were luckily able to stay in the luxury suite which was reserved for the groom get ready room (2 nights). If those stars hadn't aligned, we would not have been able to sleep comfortably in our 1 king room. Also, the suite does not have a microwave in it, we had to request one to be brought up, which I found unconventional. My cousin had their wedding here for how much money my aunt spent between the suite, a bride get ready room, and just the general costs of a wedding, it was disappointing to hear she had a difficult experience here as well. She mentioned that they pulled her away from her son's wedding reception to place her credit card down for incidentals. Why hadn't that happened beforehand? They had her card on file already between all the rooms she booked, so the fact that they took her away from this once in a lifetime experience is ridiculous. She also mentioned that they asked not only for her card info but for her ID. She told them she was not going out of her way to find that when she didn't have it on hand and they were in the middle of celebrating. Needless to say, it was an unfortunate experience this time around. I've been here before and didn't experience the lack of professionalism we experienced this time. The valet service and the staff that supports with luggage were very helpful and kind. It saddens me to have to write such a poor review for such a beautiful place. I have recommended this place to people in the past for general lodging. However, for weddings or any big event, this is not the best of places to host.

He told the table behind us that he would be with them in a minute and my friend responded thinking he was talking to us but he wasn't. He didn't even acknowledge us until way later. When he finally came over to us, we inquired about the different prices for the sake and they didn't have the sake we wanted on the menu so I asked for one more minute. He didn't come back for another 10 minutes and then I flagged someone down by raising my hand and he came over and interrupted me trying to order to tell me he would grab my server. Not sure if he was a busser or another server who had his own section and didn't want to help out. Alas, there seems to be a lot of floor staff and only 5 tables occupied at the time of our visit but the service was one of the most atrocious things I've seen in a while. Our server finally showed up again and we ordered our sake and one specialty roll to split: the Terminator. He asked us if we wanted ginger or wasabi to which I responded 'just a lot of wasabi.' The sushi roll came out extremely fast---probably within a 3-5 minutes of us ordering it and while we didn't have full on conversations with the sushi chefs, they were very nice and the reason for the extra stars on this review. I sat there for about 5 minutes unable to eat because I was still waiting for my wasabi. The server never checked up on us. I got the attention of the lovely lady sushi chef and asked for wasabi and she was apologetic and left to go tell the server. The server finally arrived with not just wasabi but a lot of ginger that we already told him we didn't need. The prices are ridiculous for what you get but it's Citywalk so understandable. The sushi roll was expensive at the tune of $23 but it was pretty tasty. If I was just rating the service, this review would have gotten 1/5 stars. Didn't catch a name. He never introduced himself. We asked one of the sushi chefs if they get to keep the tips in their tip jar on top of the bar because we wanted to make sure they got tipped properly and they said they do (just fyi if you want to tip the sushi chefs!). Would I come back? Possibly if I'm there for a movie or Universal. However, if I have to wait more than 5 minutes for a server to even acknowledge my existence once I'm already sat, I feel it best to walk out and head over to Vivo where their service is always on point.
