Chimneysweep is back. Sweeping it's way back into the local valley bar lounge life off the corner of Woodman Avenue & Moorpark Avenue from 5pm to close daily. This 1965 established San Fernando Valley spot is a good time, with an jukebox, classic cocktails, tons of good seating, a nice patio, easy-going bartenders, darts and more. They were under an updating period and were closed for a bit, it doesn't seem like much changed if anything, but I know locals and passers through are grateful for this 60 year old dive lounge bar. They still have limited parking in a shared plaza lot, but you can get lucky here, on the street, metered off Woodman, less restrictions on residential streets. Full bar, including wine and a super variety of beers from craft to imported to domestic. See their too cool for school beer menu chalkboard with the latest and greatest each month. Ask about their seasonal brews. Enjoy seating via couches, booths and/or chairs. Cozy and the dim lighting is intimate and never too much of an adjustment from the light outside. They do card everyone, even this almost forty year old with my youthfulness lol. Stopped in for the first time in a long time for a nightcap with some colleagues - a nice peanut butter whiskey coke, cheers and great tunes + music videos on their awesome flatscreens throughout. Chimneysweep is very much a locals bar, but they are truly kind to any and all. They've hosted birthdays, paint and drink nights, karaoke and even are filming friendly supporting creatives in LA. My favorite local watering hole. One of the few places in my neighborhood that serves Miller High Life in the bottle. Nice, dark environment, good jukebox music, MTV videos playing on the TV without the sound, and lots of regulars. Sunny is a fantastic bartender, my favorite. read more

The ambiance is the same besides they took the pool table away. Apparently they stopped selling drugs behind the bar, which is an inconvenience. (So be aware) bring your own!! Just found out that this amazing neighborhood bar closed permanently and even though I haven't been there since 2017 or so, it was still sad to me as this was my #1 go-to when I lived in LA. Heavy handed pours, amazing homey vibe, chill people, always a good time and a place to make great memories. Great jukebox....just the quintessential and perfect "LA dive bar"...non better. Even walked in one night and none other than actor Paul Sorvino was sitting at the bar talking with another gentleman. I said hi, he returned the greeting and I went to order my drink. I just submitted a complaint to the DOJ and hope anyone with a service animal sees this. They are not trained on how to speak or "screen" service animals, and the bouncer Juan just gave me the most uncomfortable interaction I've ever had at a bar. I will follow up through other complaints to see how this is resolved because service animals should never be turned away or people with service animals should not be harassed and questioned in an accusatory way in front of others. Luckily another patron witnessed this because the bartender tried to cover him and said he was the boss and I guess his friend having a drink tried to say he wouldn't say that but another patron witnessed his accusation and discrimination. My dog was calm, quiet, and under control. He was being carried in my bag and was not touching the ground or causing any disturbance. After I had already entered the bar, a bouncer who identified himself as Juan approached me in front of other patrons and began stating that claiming a dog is a service dog when it is not is "fraud." I informed him that my dog is a legitimate service dog. He did not ask the two ADA-permitted questions. Instead, he told me that service dogs must wear a vest and said dogs are not allowed in the bar. He told me my dog should stay in the car. I asked if service dogs were not allowed and he repeated that dogs are not allowed. I asked to speak with someone in charge because I was being denied access with my service dog. A bartender told me that Juan was the boss and did not allow me to escalate the situation. The interaction occurred in front of other patrons and was humiliating and upsetting, and I ultimately left the establishment. During the interaction, I told him that he could not simply accuse me of fraud when I was clearly telling him that my dog is a legitimate service animal. In response, he stated that he "can say whatever he wants." The Chimneysweep is a Valley classic. It's not the biggest bar around, but I like that it has somewhat of an intimate feeling. The bartop was clean, drinks came fast, and bartender was super friendly. This is a kind of bar where you walk in and chat with everyone inside like you've known each other for years, but some people do get a little sloppy. It's a dive, what else would you expect? I love the burning fireplace and festive holiday decor inside. It has that "classic" LA vibe with the leather booths and old timey decor. There's plenty of seating area inside and they have a very tiny outdoor space that's probably just best for standing. They also have a pool table that gets pretty crowded at night for all the inquiring pool sharks. The ONLY downside here is that you have to pay to play music. If no one pays for music, it's dead silent in there. Awk. They used to have Karaoke, but I didn't see a set-up when I was there on a Tuesday night. Overall, the Chimneysweep is a good time and definitely a locals-only sort of spot. You can park in the lot of the shopping center too which is super convenient! read more

Came here with a friend and my partner for a drink. Had a great selection of spirits, beers on tap, white claws, and more! The music was Backstreet Boys and other songs you may have heard in the 2000s.... Which I loved.... So definitely not mad at that. It's your basic hole in the wall. Prices seemed fair. Yelp guided me to this establishment while I was on a business trip in Sherman Oaks. It did not disappoint. A genuine old-school, dive bar in the every sense of the word. Dark room, low-hanging lights at the bar, padded seats along the wall and people who came to drink, not to dance or order food. They have a smoking area out front. It's hidden behind a screen and some shrubs so you nicotine junkies can keep your secret.) Colorful clientele. Good for people watching (but don't stare.) If you want a cool, dark, safe place to relax and sip a cocktail, this is it. I'll be back. PS I read the review of the poster who was upset that their dog and they were "shunned". My guess is that they walked into the smoking area out front. First off, it's a dive bar, so as long as your expectations adjusted to acknowledge this, you can celebrate what it is. It's definitely a dive bar in a good sense. They have pool tables, couches and things, make it nice to hang with friends when it's late at night, your friend is in from England and you want a drink and you don't want a bunch of fuss. They also play the games so that's nice. The reason for the 4/5 stars is the bathroom was a mess, yes we were there a little alter but not on a weekend so not sure on that, it doesn't strike me as a place you'd expect a shady bathroom, and the bartender seemed pretty unhappy-maybe he was having a bad day so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because we ordered a gin and tonic and 2 beers and were quick to pay so we weren't super high maintenance in our orders. Also, people smoke on the patio pretty profusely and that can leak into the establishment proper, which is ultimately why we left, the smoke bothered some of us with compromised lungs so that wasn't great. However, if you do fancy a cigarette at a bar in the valley, this is your place! They played great 80's and 90's music. Overall, great vibe for the type of bar it was. My friends really liked it. We'd venture back again for a late night drink and some pool if we're in the mood. read more

The bartenders here are AMAZING. Today is Edie, the sweetest of sweet. She is so attentive and always smiling. The weekend bartenders, of which Edie is one as well, are THE SHIT. This cannot be an easy bar to tend. It's packed, loud, and the patrons can be aggressive. But Melisa, Mory, and Edie are like ninjas... Constantly in motion, watching everyone who walks up to the bar, making sure to serve everyone in the fastest time possible. I mean, you can't ask for more. I highly recommend this place. Ada violation not letting service dog in. My dogs was even here a year ago and both the security guard Duane and the manager Juan denied entry. They asked questions not allowed by ada law (to which I answered) and demanded medical documentation to let me service dog in. Mind you someone inside the establishment had a small dog with them in their jacket at the time. I showed the manager the ada site to help inform him of the law, to which is responded "you're showing me a website". Entire conversation was recorded via video.
