The best open mic in San Fernando Valley is here in Van Nuys. Free hot dogs on Sundays! They also have a great selection of hot sauces to choose from if you want to spice up your food or drinks. Highly recommend!

First time coming here with my good homeboy and we had a blast! Something about playing Jenga on the bar table and making new friends makes for a solid, good night of drinking. And Vero was a top notch bartender. I will be returning soon.

Ask the Community - Liquid Zoo

How does the Sunday open mic night work?

Just came in around 8:30, there's always a list there that they bring in. If you can't find it you can always ask the bartender that's working, it's usually Arayaa that works Sunday nights. After that Ryan, the host, will let you know when you're up…

Does this place have karaoke on Saturday nights?

    Yes

Are there 18+ nights? Or is it only 21+?

When we walked in, we had our ID checked by the security that was sitting in the front. My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday for a quick drink before a movie, and the "vibe" was non-existent. They have four TVs at the bar, but the setup was bizarre, two were completely off and another was just frozen on a directory logo. The biggest issue, however, is the cleanliness--or lack thereof. The place is incredibly dirty. It feels like it hasn't had a deep clean in weeks, maybe longer. The bar top was disgusting, the floors were grimy, and even the woodwork looked like it hadn't seen a rag since opening day. They are charging $17 for "signature cocktails," which is bold for a spot that feels like a neglected dive bar. If you're going to charge premium prices, you have to at least wipe down the countertops. Service-wise, the bartender was friendly enough but low energy and minimal level of service. To make matters worse, a shift change happened while we were there, and the departing bartender made us close out our check and start a brand-new one with the next person. Why should the staff's administrative hand-off be the customer's issue? It's just unprofessional. The Valley has so many actual dive bars with character and plenty of high-end spots for a great cocktail; I'm not sure where this place is trying to fit in. It feels like someone bought it and just stopped caring. We won't be back.

It's become so much more than just one of our favorite bars and every visit reminds us why we keep coming back. The biggest reason, though, is the people. Hospitality is something that's hard to fake, and the team here does it effortlessly. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted like an old friend. Over the years, the staff has created an environment that feels welcoming, comfortable, and genuinely personal, and that's something that's become increasingly rare. Matt, Sabrina, and the entire team are all such gems. Scott also deserves special recognition. He's a huge part of what makes The Rendition Room such a special place. Whether he's introducing a new cocktail, sharing the story behind a spirit, or simply taking the time to check in, his passion and care for every guest shine through. It's people like Scott who transform a great bar into a place you truly feel connected to. On our most recent visit, we tried the new Decade & Debauchery cocktail, celebrating The Rendition Room's 10 year anniversary, and it's phenomenal. Balanced, and beautifully executed. In a city full of great bars, they have managed to create something much harder to find, a sense of community. After all these years, it still feels just as special as the first time we walked in.

Their long hours (early morning until 2am) mean there are a couple of shifts of staff per day, but I most often find Jodie behind the bar, and she's one of the nicest bartenders in town. Lighthearted and well-spoken, she can chat with anyone about almost anything, and she manages the crowd well. She's a good egg who's seen it all, but seems to treat every day like it's possible to get through without any problems. There's no food for sale here, but they're happy to have you bring or order in anything you like, and you'll often see people at the bar eating meals from the many local restaurants. There are 8 TV's mounted around the place (plenty for its size), so you can watch a game if you like, and the digital jukebox is easy to manage from an app on your phone. Plus, they've got solid, reliable WiFi, in case you're sick of sitting in Starbucks. Drinks are modestly priced and generously poured, and there's ample parking, both in the lot out back and on the un-metered street out front. This may not be the right place for a marriage proposal, but it's definitely the right place to hang out and cool off in the dog days of summer.

It takes place mostly in their rear patio area and parking lot, but a good number of vendors were also in an adjacent air conditioned event room. They have a very small parking lot, but it was occupied by vendors during this event. Do not park in the parking lots of the adjacent businesses, as we were warned when entering the Tonga Hut that cars get towed regularly. There's plenty of street parking in the nearby neighborhood. Entering from the rear, there is a good sized covered patio with around eight benches. We went inside to check it out and grab a drink. The interior is fairly small with four good sized booths, a lounge area with a large J-shaped couch with several small tables, and around ten seats at the bar. It is dimly lit with some basic tiki décor, and has an old-school feel. They had a fixed cocktail menu for this event which is understandable. We stood in line at the bar for about ten minutes, got our drinks and went out to the patio. The bartender was friendly, and didn't seem flustered by the high volume of patrons. I had the Horned Beast O' The Celtic Sea (Oceanus Hibernicus Irish Malt, Jamacian Rum, House Made Falernum & Orgeat, Peach, Citrus, Dash of Cherry Heering, $13). She had the Leprechaun Grog (Three Rums, Lime, Grapefruit, Honey, Spice, Soda, $14). Both drinks were good, were served in souvenir plastic cups, and were a bargain at $13 to $14. If you ordered a drink containing Oceanus whiskey, the bartender gave you a gold coin and you could exchange it with the Oceanus representative on the patio for a free T-shirt. Durango Tacos was setup near the rear entrance for food. We had four tacos (two carne asada and two veggie), and they were good and reasonably priced. This was the first tiki marketplace we have attended. There were around twenty vendors with a good assortment of art work, tiki mugs, tiki clothing, tiki décor, and other miscellaneous items. I purchased a few nice tiki shirts which were a steal at $20 and $25. The vendors and visitors were all very friendly and in a festive mood. We hung out for about ninety minutes and had a good time. We will return at some point to try their regular cocktail menu and see what it's like on a non-event night.
