Mardi Gras madness
Valerie Deanna C.

This bar saved me. Saved my event. Saved the day. And LAST MINUTE, DAY OF, no less. The owner of the previous location where I was supposed to have my Mardi Gras event called me from the front seat of his car, DAY OF THE EVENT, saying my event would ruin his marriage if it was allowed, so he cancelled on me. I was dumbfounded and stuck needing a place to host an event. Many people had confirmed across all social media apps and I didn't know what to do. Thankfully, my friend suggested this place among a few others and I immediately went to work trying to get in touch with new possible locations and it wasn't even 8am yet. I hit up The Nectar on their website and on Instagram, and THANKFULLY Anissa the owner contacted me back elated to host my event. It was PREDESTINED...it was FATE to have my event here. This was meant to be! The owner was WONDERFUL. The bartender Donnie was an absolute doll and his Hurricane cocktails were OUT OF THIS WORLD! The whole staff received us like family. They took pictures of us, took pictures of the event, and made us feel at home. I couldn't believe it. And now everyone wants to come back. This place has amazing drinks, pool tables, darts, a wonderful jukebox, karaoke, a DJ that plays on certain nights, LOTS of immediate parking and adjacent parking lot parking. They take Cash, Apple Pay and Zelle at the bar. And the regulars are all nice, lovely people. Anissa, you saved the day, lady. And now we're having St. Patrick's Day here. Stay tuned for photos

Loved this bar! Has a wide selection of drinks and live music. The bartender was so kind, definitely knows how to make a good drink. A true hidden gem.

The bartender was singing karaoke, poured a beer, and closed out a tab while still singing. She was so good! Drinks are cheap. The pour is good. Cash only. Some single women sitting on the bar. There were some couples. Everyone was good looking. The place is larger than the what the pics show.

We bumped into The Nectar on our night of bar crawling in the Valley. When I walk into a bar, I always ask for the bar drink's specialties. When I asked here, I was just laughed at and said "it's a full bar, bro." The demographic there was not very welcoming, and not very good looking either. This place had no good energy and was small. The bartenders are quick with their drinks and the drinks are cheap though. I wouldn't come back but would tell others to give it a chance, maybe I came on an off night!

Michelada. The rim was heavily coated in salt, tajin and it was not refreshing at all.

I came here on the recommendation that it was a cool joint. So disappointed. There was no ambiance, place is small and boring, the crowd is much older not that that's a bad thing. I ordered a michelada and although it looked good, it was bad. I had the one drink and took off.

GREAT SPOT! neighborhood dive bar..good crowd, awesome bartenders (KJ is the best)!! they legit serve the coldest beer! side note: cash only

Zelle payment was a bad business decision, and two drinks at $40 is too much for a dive bar

Maybe it wasn't a good day (Sunday night), but the vibe was "meh" .... Billiard table was fun.

Ask the Community - The Nectar

What time does karaoke start?

I think it was 21:00 (9pm)

What nights are karaoke?

I could be wrong but I believe it's Wednesday through Sunday

Does the bar do trivia nights?

no, they don't.... but they have karoake nights, DJ other nights, pool tables and electronic darts. I think having a trivia night is a good suggestion though.

Maui Sugar Mill is exactly what I think of when someone says 'local watering hole' or 'dive bar'…read more Lanny and the crew are amazing, great bartenders and conversation starters. This used to be my spot! If you like live music, be sure to check out their blues night. Get there EARLY! Camp out at the bar and save your seat because it's about to be standing room only. You can reserve a table in advance. If you miss a live music night, just purchase some points for the jukebox. Smoking section outside, no food, but feel free to bring your own. There's pizza, sushi, and sandwiches in the same plaza, so you're set! A staple of the valley! If you go, order a Dark and Stormy for me!

Spent Super Bowl Sunday at Sugar Mill, and it was the very best decision I've made in a long time…read more This place is most definitely "the little bar that could," with a great staff, fun and funny patrons, and an atmosphere that allows for both staunch fans and casual observers. Most people contribute to a pot luck feast that spans the wide world of food, from hot dogs and chili to baked ziti, tacos, meatballs, fried chicken, Chinese food, and on and on -- including some amazing homemade clam chowder from Mike The Mailman. Bartender Natalie did an amazing job of handling the busy crowd with speed and smiles. There were a couple of other staffers on site to watch the game, and they jumped in when she needed a hand with this or that, but for the most part Natalie captained the bar single-handedly for the duration. Kudos to her. It's true, Super Bowl only comes once a year, so other game days don't have the pot luck feast -- Sugar Mill doesn't have a kitchen, though they're happy to have you bring in whatever food you like and eat it there. Food aside, the crowd and the service are always just what you want, making it the perfect place to relax into at game time as Basketball enters the home stretch and baseball steps up to bat.

I had an appointment earlier and decided to meet up a friend…read morefor dinner. They mentioned this place which is fine as I've alway enjoyed each visit. Plus we were meeting early which also happy hour was still happening. I think it's from 3-6. Even at 5 in the afternoon, there was no parking in the lot. And the residential parking was pretty much packed. As I had my little pup with me, we needed a table outside. It's been a while since I was seated outside. Usually it's been in the bar area. They have a back gate at the patio but it was locked. First off, the place was packed. It's been a while since it's been like that. Or maybe I've only been coming during happy hour. Also, it's somewhat seems to be a thing where you have to ask for the happy hour menus. Anyways, their items are pretty decent for prices. Drinks specials and some of the food items are worth it. We alway get a pitcher of beer for the table to share. Food wise, a couple of the ceviche. Either fish or shrimp and that's served with a tostada chip. For 12.00, it's pretty decent in size and quite tasty. Between the fish or shrimp, I prefer shrimp better. Also, two street tacos for 5.00 with many choices of protein. Lastly, the loaded fried nachos for 12.00. Let's say when they mean loaded, it was loaded. That too comes with your choice of protein which I went with the al pastor. The food was great. Reasonable price and well portioned. Plus the chips and bean dip to start off. They also accommodate some salsas with chips which is nice. Before it would alway be the bean dips and you would have to ask for the salsa. If you want fresh guacamole, they have someone that will prepare it table side to your liking. This visit, there was also the mariachi band walking around asking people if that wanted any requests. The service was great, the staffs all are amazing and friendly. Some familiar faces which is nice.
