It's a dive bar with a small little parking lot in the back. Upon entering, we were greeted by a pretty cool dive bar with some regulars who were singing along with the music. It looks like they have karaoke nights and other fun things going on in this place that I definitely want to check out one of these days. The bartender was nice but we noticed she hung out mainly on the right of the bar with the regulars and didn't interact too much with us. Their long hours (early morning until 2am) mean there are a couple of shifts of staff per day, but I most often find Jodie behind the bar, and she's one of the nicest bartenders in town. Lighthearted and well-spoken, she can chat with anyone about almost anything, and she manages the crowd well. She's a good egg who's seen it all, but seems to treat every day like it's possible to get through without any problems. There's no food for sale here, but they're happy to have you bring or order in anything you like, and you'll often see people at the bar eating meals from the many local restaurants. There are 8 TV's mounted around the place (plenty for its size), so you can watch a game if you like, and the digital jukebox is easy to manage from an app on your phone. Plus, they've got solid, reliable WiFi, in case you're sick of sitting in Starbucks. Drinks are modestly priced and generously poured, and there's ample parking, both in the lot out back and on the un-metered street out front. This may not be the right place for a marriage proposal, but it's definitely the right place to hang out and cool off in the dog days of summer.

My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday for a quick drink before a movie, and the "vibe" was non-existent. They have four TVs at the bar, but the setup was bizarre, two were completely off and another was just frozen on a directory logo. The biggest issue, however, is the cleanliness--or lack thereof. The place is incredibly dirty. It feels like it hasn't had a deep clean in weeks, maybe longer. The bar top was disgusting, the floors were grimy, and even the woodwork looked like it hadn't seen a rag since opening day. They are charging $17 for "signature cocktails," which is bold for a spot that feels like a neglected dive bar. If you're going to charge premium prices, you have to at least wipe down the countertops. Service-wise, the bartender was friendly enough but low energy and minimal level of service. To make matters worse, a shift change happened while we were there, and the departing bartender made us close out our check and start a brand-new one with the next person. Why should the staff's administrative hand-off be the customer's issue? It's just unprofessional. The Valley has so many actual dive bars with character and plenty of high-end spots for a great cocktail; I'm not sure where this place is trying to fit in. It feels like someone bought it and just stopped caring. We won't be back.

They have a jukebox, which is perfect for me since I can play my metal music. The bathrooms are clean, the drink prices are decent, and the crowd of patrons is friendly. The only downside is that they only accept cash, and I'm not a big fan of the Zelle option with the $5 fee. Aside from that, I still highly recommend this place for a laid-back night out with good service and a great atmosphere.

Most people contribute to a pot luck feast that spans the wide world of food, from hot dogs and chili to baked ziti, tacos, meatballs, fried chicken, Chinese food, and on and on -- including some amazing homemade clam chowder from Mike The Mailman. Bartender Natalie did an amazing job of handling the busy crowd with speed and smiles. There were a couple of other staffers on site to watch the game, and they jumped in when she needed a hand with this or that, but for the most part Natalie captained the bar single-handedly for the duration. Kudos to her. It's true, Super Bowl only comes once a year, so other game days don't have the pot luck feast -- Sugar Mill doesn't have a kitchen, though they're happy to have you bring in whatever food you like and eat it there. Food aside, the crowd and the service are always just what you want, making it the perfect place to relax into at game time as Basketball enters the home stretch and baseball steps up to bat.
