This place is involved in shady business practices. I recently went there on Christmas Eve, I was charged twice. I paid my bill in cash, and then the next day on my Credit Card. When I called to complain, the bar owner's response was..... Don't come back. They serve no food, yet they supposedly have a state of the art POS system. More like Piece...... Extremely rude (possibly racist) bartenders here. They all seem to gave a chip on their shoulder and seem miserable. Worst part was I was there with friends, but the second they left, I was treated MUCH differently. I've heard that before, but never experienced it for myself 'til this weekend. This place also has a seedy vibe and I was even offered meth here. The DJ was the only saving quality. This place is not anywhere anyone that likes anything of quality would possibly go. I was so excited when we walked in because this bar had such a classic vibe but also felt modern at the same time ! I live for great service, but unfortunately that is not what we experienced here. It took a little while to be noticed, then a little bit longer to be approached by the bartender once we were noticed, then after we were served our drinks, we didn't see her again until well after I was on empty and waiting more than 10 minutes (in a low populated bar at that time) for a drink. To boot, my boyfriend finished his drink after me and we were still left waiting! He said "one more" and I said "absolutely not." Great vibe! Even has a fire place in the middle of the joint ... but great service is king, and, again, unfortunately, service was lacking. Sad to say, but we won't be coming back !! read more

This place is a joke, we waited 22 minutes at the bar trying to place a drink order and apparently we were Invisible or the wrong skin color. I am not sure if the owner is aware or condones this behavior this very racist and outright rude behavior and having two bartenders on a Sat night with an over crowded establishment poor customer service wait what am I talking about we did not get even acknowledged Watch your camera at 11:50-12:15pm if you truly care about your business maybe use that for training purposes. Sugar Suite isn't the cleanest or most vibe-y spot, but the drinks are definitely solid. It's kind of like the local Cheers bar--almost everyone knows each other, and you can take that however it suits you. Very social lounge- crowded on the weekends but everyone is very nice. Atmosphere has a good vibe.

I don't know why anyone has ever said to me that this is a "dive bar".  It isn't. It is a nice bar, clean bar, organized bar, fun bar, inclusive bar, accessible bar, and a place with a staff that makes the experience SO SPECIAL.  I think Steve is one of a kind!  Just watch him care for you and the bar for clear evidence.  He is ONE OF THE KINDEST, MOST ATTENTIVE BARTENDERS AROUND; Evi and Kristen are smile makers and know how to make your time here memorable (depending on your drink inventory).  I am grateful for a place like this that I can go to recharge! read more

Avoid at all costs. Not worth it at all. I was in a group of 12 and was targeted because it's insulting to tip on a free drink? I didn't know that and thought I was showing appreciation. The bartender (Kristin) literally grabbed the drink out of my hands halfway through, threw it on me, smashed the glass and then told security to escort me out. Even security was confused. I waited for the police outside. Don't ever support a place where you aren't safe from the staff at least. My favorite bar and it's near home. The bartenders are friendly. The patrons are friendly. I love Saturday nights. They have a DJ and they play freestyle music. They now have a DJ on Fridays. They're generous with the drinks. At night you'd think the people are shady but everyone is super friendly. Especially the regulars. There's a lot of security. Nothing bad goes down there. If there's a commotion, it's some fool acting drunk. I feel totally safe there. There's a large patio inn there back for smoking. The bathrooms are super clean! I've been a patron of Sugar Suites for several years now. Between work, school and my commute, I really haven't been there as much as I would have liked in recent months. I was very excited to be there last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. We got there a little early to grab a good table and saw Kristen, who's always been a rock star. I also had the pleasure of meeting Steve, who has amazing vibes. We started filling up the bar waiting for the birthday girl's arrival, and once she arrived, I lost count of how many people were there to celebrate her birthday. Shortly afterwards, another bartender named Crystal arrived. I was a little excited because I had overheard the green bottle that she carried in with her was a cucumber margarita mix so I quickly decided that was going to be my next drink. Unfortunately, I never got that drink. Apparently, Crystal does not like the birthday girl and immediately had the security guard follow her throughout the bar and insist that she leave. Now at no point and time did I see any kind of interaction between the two, communication or altercation, that would justify this type of treatment. If I had, I would have completely understood, because no one should feel harassed or threatened or disrespected at their place of employment. But I do not understand. I do not understand how a bartender could ask a paying customer, who was accompanied by as many as 40 other paying customers, to leave without any provocation. I do not understand how someone in the customer service and hospitality industry has not mastered enough professionalism to understand that we are not required to "like" the customers that we serve, mind you she was never even asked to serve the birthday girl. Several of us ended up leaving the bar last night due to the above. We did, however, head out to another bar where the celebration continued. She told me rudely " There Is NO Passport here" before being able to say more i was hung up on. When calling the second time to try and talk to a manager about my m passport same person answered and " Told me there is No Manger until night time you should call at that time and that there was NO PASSPORT here " with a tone of like what do you want from me .I responded to them oh okay i'm so sorry i just really want to make sure my passport not there and i apologize. When I feel like getting TF outta Dodge, I get on the 5 and stop here for drinks and have nothing but good times. First time I came here, I noticed it looked identical to the Chimneysweep in Sherman Oaks. It's the same bar designer. I think there were like six in the Valley at one point. But this place doesn't attract hipsters, which is why it's stayed in good shape. Dive bar is a term that gets abused like bodega which means place to buy Spanish groceries. If they have pastrami not Goya it's a deli. But people who just moved from the Midwest are proud of themselves for learning Spanish. Speaking of which, the Mexican restaurant next door has great chile Colorado tacos and will deliver your food to the bar. Nice but no nonsense bartenders, cheap prices and stiff drinks.
