My favorite bar in all of LA!!!! The bartenders are great and this place has character and the live music is great.

The bartender was very friendly very nice and great to talk to. Drinks were a decent price. Place looks fun and inviting. They even have a Photo Booth. The only problem was the place smelled like throw up. Maybe it just happened and it has an aired out yet maybe it always smells that way. Came in here after picking my friend up from a late night with her friends. she wanted to do a little karaoke so we found this bar just off of Van Boulevard across from the Best Buy. At first glance, it looked like your typical dive bar. It was early in the day around 2 PM. Coke was not running yet Marc the bartender seemed a little bit grumpy, but provided fantastic service and cocktails. after hanging out there for a little bit I ended up meeting the owner and helped them with their security system, and we all made quick friends, to make a very long story short we stayed there until closing approximately 12 hours at that Bar ended up making a bunch of friends and then ended up bringing a bunch of people to our house for an after party. So at the end of the day or should I say the next day, this bar was a win five stars five out of five to thumbs up, and a big cheers as it not only provided the cocktails, the karaoke, but provided new friends in the making, which is priceless. I think why we all go to bars is not for the drinks, but for the friends. so thank you Bar Tavern for providing exactly what the customer really wants friendship and companionship. We will be back and we will be bringing more bodies for your excellent atmosphere. Sidenote, their karaoke was top-tier even though I was definitely not top-tier when I performed karaoke and also they had a restaurant that set up shop in the patio area to provide Fantastic quesadillas and tacos. Highly recommended. they are the cheapest quesadillas hitting at approximately $12 apiece or steak or I think you can opt for just the cheese for nine $$ but damn they were worth it. Here on a Monday night with my friend, the femae bartender was lovely and provided quick service. Unfortunately we had to witness this guy Brent working who flipped out at her it was really awkward to witness. He needs a serious attitude adjustment he shouldn't be yelling at people behind the bar. People were waiting for him to serve them and he just kept yelling shit and waving arms around. Well, lets see...this bar has been remodeled from what I remember. It use to be really run down, but now its really nice inside. Its a small dive bar, but has a pool table, photo booth, and music jukebox. Its real chill here and very low key, its not overly crowded and the crowd that comes here is very chill. The prices are average and they have all regular beers or mixed drinks/ shots. I believe this place has darts too! The location is on Van Nuys near the Dominos, if you come here I'd recommend Uber, street parking is a pain. read more

This is my go to spot Sunday nights. When you walk in you're greeted by the wonderful bartender Mory. I am not from Los Angeles and didn't know many people. That changed very quickly as Mory makes everyone feel special and included. She has this beautiful way of bringing everyone together. Truly one of a kind. I've seen it many times how she easily is able to make a stranger feel at home and help them make new friends with other patrons. This is what a local dive bar should be all about. It's always busy Sunday nights but still amazing service and not to mention a great crowd of people. Also if you're into playing your own music they have one of those machines as well! I'm a mezcal drinker and Mory introduced me to my new favorite mezcal Del Vida! Also... I don't ever go on the back patio because I'm not a smoker so I never knew what a vibe it is on the patio until I was starving one Sunday and mentioned it to Mory as I was about to go grab in n out. She let me know there's a guy who has a food stand on the back patio with amazing food! I checked it out and honorable mention his chicken salad sandwiches are DELICIOUS! They also have tables and games out on the patio for patrons to enjoy! As well as a Photo Booth you'll find on your way out to the patio. I love Mory and I love going to the barrel on Sundays with great friends, good music, awesome mezcal, a delicious chicken salad sandwich and of course the wonderful beautiful Mory! This bar isn't closed FYI. I go here exclusively for the karaoke which my friend Jimmy does on Fridays--go see him! Anyway it's a dive bar so don't get your hopes up in it being a classy watering hole or anything. One of the bartenders is a total c u next Tuesday and won't acknowledge you if you have tits. Didn't even take my order when I gave it to her and instead looked at the guy standing next to me even though I had been there longer, THEN told me water was on both sides of the bar, but it wasn't. I don't write reviews. But I thought about it for a while, and I feel like I should put this out there for others to be aware. I've been to this bar and enjoyed it many times. I've recommended it to friends. I used to love it, but the last time ruined it for me. I went to close my tab, the bartender said my full name to me before I even spoke. He was panicked and seemed drunk and was hard to understand at first. The bartender said he gave my card to someone else who already left. He apologized, cancelled my bill and offered me $20 towards my next tab. I checked my bank account and I already had fraudulent charges. I was only at the bar for under 2 hours. When I moved to Sherman Oaks 5 years ago I went around to check out the neighborhood bars. After hitting a few places I stumbled into The Barrel and to be honest I did not have the best experience. Thankfully I wasn't yelping at the time. Turns out a friend from work is a regular and after a few attempts to get me to go back I finally caved and gave The Barrel a 2nd chance. I'm glad I did. I know the bar had some covid struggles and after a short closure they came back with some fresh paint and a new attitude. I love the new look, no longer a dive but a total sports bar. Cool bartenders, friendly regulars and plenty of TVs showing games. Just a great spot for an after work beer. read more

Wow, this place is where it's at. They have a pool table and so many fun events. We went to a hippy night where they had an outside station for local people selling products. Oh The barrel, a cozy dive bar with a friendly atmosphere on the weekends. Usually on Fridays, & Saturday's they have karaoke going on, the crowds are always friendly & laid back. They have pretty good prices for their cocktails, the beer on the other hand seems like they raised the prices on pitchers & bottles the last time I was there it cost $23.00 for a pitcher of shock top & 1 bottle of new castle. I also need to remember to stop ordering beer from the tap here the pitchers are usually flat & a little warm. But besides the bad beer taps this spot is a decent hang out spot. read more

Bar looked cool with the pool table.But our experience for me and my boyfriends first time here was horrible. First off we sat down , and we were curious if they had any signature drinks and so my boyfriend asked the bartender if they had a drink menu and what the cheapest drinks were and one of the bartenders answered like he didn't like the questions or didn't want to answer. After that I wanted to leave but decided to give it another chance. We both ordered beers and drank them. After that, we wanted to close the tab and apparently the card machine wasn't working and said it would take a minute to repair. We were waiting almost an hour to get the debit card back. And the machine started working apparent and they didn't tell us so none of the employees or bartenders gave us back our card until we had to ask again. And they didn't even give us a discount on the bill for waiting for the inconvenience but the owner gave free drinks out to other people and was drinking with the customers. Out here for a visit and friends took us to this dive bar called The Barrel and the Bartender behind the bar was fantastic. He was singing with the band and so entertaining behind the bar. I'm not much of a drinker and told him I didn't like the taste of liquor so he made me a drink that was fantastic. Had the best time with my girl and bro. This place is much better than the previously remodeled space. Service was great and had no problems enjoying a game of pool.
