It's rather intimate, and much smaller on the inside than I expected. We sat at the bar, on the opposite end from the live band, but we could still hear the music just fine. The place settings, the decor, dimmed lights, and the seats are all quite appealing and quaint. The two standouts from our meal: the Yellowtail Crudo (with a provocative pink sauce) and the Pork Belly Risotto (immaculate - every single bite hit perfectly). The outside is subtle - you may miss Verse if you're not looking for it. There is some seating outside on the sidewalk where you can order drinks before you're seated. Honestly, I didn't notice any "stars" when I came by, but I likely don't know who to look for or what celebrities look like "in the wild." We started with the milk buns--so fresh, warm, and soft that we almost ordered another round. For mains and sides, we had the branzino, crab campanelle, mushroom side, and crushed potatoes. From the amazing acoustics of the live music to the serene atmosphere, you couldn't believe you were in a restaurant. Our amazing and super helpful server Dawson let us know that the hanging microphones and the specially built walls made such the perfect sound come through that while dining you get a noise cancelling experience that lets you hear every music beat and every word you speak while dining with your party. It's a truly unique sound and experience. I would come back 10x for that feeling of hearing my friends talk while not hearing the entire restaurant in the background. What ruins it for me at places is having to yell over the disruptive environment any restaurant would have but Verse just knew what they were doing and I'll forever come back just to dine in the most relaxing place. It's got a speakeasy vibe with easy listening music and a live band. Open for dinner only that truly offer the best place for even a date night. I went with a large group of 12 and had no issues hearing every conversation at the table. Loved the lounge and dark vibes. Even the bathroom visit leaves you wondering if you left reality and are dreaming up an alternate universe. Food speaks for itself but Dawson our lovely waiter made sure to capture all our allergies and food preferences including my ask about dairy free and no spicy. He quickly grabbed the dairy free menu for me which had so many options. And easily pointed out any dish that might send me running for water which was so helpful in narrowing down my choices. If you come for the milk buns you'll be delighted because the amount of softness and whipped butter was to die for! So many shareable and plenty of options to satisfy any eater. I especially loved how perfectly portioned everything was so you weren't left struggling if a single dish was too large. Every dish was built with perfection and love. You can't go wrong with anything but I especially loved the pork belly risotto. Pastas leaned a bit more salty or heavy for my liking but several friends in my group tried them and not one complained about any flavors. PARKING: Not sure if there is available parking here as they do have a valet. 15$ for it but you're paying for the convenience! SEATING: Greeted twice! Once outside and once inside. They were all so nice to welcome us and congratulate us for our anniversary as we had reservations. They even sat us down a bit earlier as we came 15 minutes early. Plenty of seating! Just all indoors. There's a mix of high rise tables, regular tables, and booths. I was lucky enough to pick between one regular table in the middle or one booth by the stage. I chose the one closest by the stage as it seemed cooler! (And it was!!) Very comfy seats! The tables are a bit small for my tastes but they made it work! Being so close to the stage was extremely cool and it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. The trio played every half hour which was nice! SERVICE: Dawson is the best server hands down!! Ordered: Apps - Milk Buns: 4.2/5 - I feel like these are a crowd pleaser, which is great! The fried kelp was extra crispy. 2. Shigoku oyster - The oyster was flavorful with the potatoes/leeks and was tender. 3. Porcini dumpling - The dumpling had a great chanterelle flavor, and the skin of the dumpling had the perfect soft and firm texture. I found out about this restaurant via Reddit--yay, Reddit! I was looking for a special dining experience for my husband's birthday and came upon this place as some people said this is one of their favorite restaurants in LA. The ambience was cozy, moody, sophisticated, and very comforting. And as someone who has very sensitive hearing and does not enjoy restaurants with live music because they tend to get too loud and overwhelming, this place was shocking. I had some the next day and it was still so moist and juicy. 3. Tostada: Such a good starter!! I would not say it was mind blowing but I had no bad notes on the flavors. 4. Tartare: I adore how the bread was large and they did not skimp on it. The meat was fresh and very bite was perfect. 5. Side of potatos: My oh my this was the most surprising dish of the night. A great portion of creamy but not mushy potatos with truffle weaved between every bite. I was so satisfied with this dish and I could not get ENOUGH of pairing it with the duck and tartare. The ambiance, live music, service, and of course the food were all beyond perfect for us. Once we were seated and mentioned we wanted a bottle of wine, they immediately sent over their sommelier. Verse has one of the most extensive wine lists in the area, and the sommelier was fantastic. A great option for girls night and date night. Hidden behind a big door labeled with a golden V is a beautifully decorated interior and elegant dining experience with live performances. From appetizers to dessert every bite was made with intent. Service was great. Jazz music completes the atmosphere. For appetizers we started with were the yellowtail crudo, Hokkaido milky buns and Peruvian scallops. The crudo and scallop dishes were so colorful as were the flavors. The Hokkaido milky buns tasted like a light fluff bread with a creamy and soft butter that literally rolled off the bun. New York steak was cooked perfectly. The bean dip side with the plantain chips complimented each other very well, squeezing the lime in the bean dip made it 10 times better. Oyster mushroom and crushed potato was delicious but I'm a sucker for anything mushroom or truffle. Pork belly risotto - the pork belly was tender and sauce was on the sweater side but with the chimichurri it was delicious. Dungeness crab Campanella was had a nice spicy kick to it with some texture. For dessert we shared the sorbet and olive oil cake, the sorbet tasted like guava, olive oil cake was very smooth and not too sweet. The only downside was you have to order everything at the same time (appetizers and entrées) but they were accommodating and waited for our last guest to arrive and we never felt rushed. The noise level was a bit on the louder side, difficult for a big group to hear everyone's conversation. Valet and street parking available. Wow! This place is astounding. We came here to celebrate a birthday in December 2024. From the outside it seems unassuming, but once inside you're surrounded by a classy atmosphere with dim warm lighting. Since this place was once a recording studio, you'll notice relics of its time: hanging microphones, acoustic padding, etc., all of which create a phenomenal space for the live music played here. The music is the perfect background accompaniment and not overwhelming so you can still comfortably hold a conversation. The service was professional and attentive but not overbearing. They also gave recommendations which is always appreciated! Nothing bad to say about this place (which is rare considering how often I eat out ) -- every dish was super solid and their service was incredible. Add in the live music and gorgeous moody ambiance and you have a total knock out!! Oh and drinks - the pancho was my fav, a really well balanced yuzu cocktail that is unlike what I've had elsewhere. The negroni Blanco is also really good plus the wines we had were perfect pairs with the delicious food. In order of fav to least (& I'm using least with air quotes bc we really did love it all): -Duck (perfectly cooked and everything on the plate really added to the flavors and textures overall. So much going on and each part came together to make the dish better than the sum of its parts) -Mushroom pasta (sooo much umami from the generous servings of mushrooms plus the cheese and perfectly cookies pasta - can't go wrong if you're as into mushrooms as we are) -milk buns (they lived up to the hype, hard to beat perfectly cooked fresh bread with their specialty butter) -sorbet (prob sounds crazy for it to be this high up the list but it really was the perfect finish to such a rich and flavor packed meal) -wagyu tartare (different than others I've tried in a good way. From the moment you walk into Verse, you know you're in for a special experience. The ambience is perfect, low lighting, live entertainment, and a relaxed, upscale vibe. The service stood out immediately; every staff member was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed from the start. Our server did a great job explaining the menu in detail, and honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you choose. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked absolutely phenomenal, and what we ordered tasted just as good as it looked. I tried Verse for the first time by myself, to both commemorate a somber milestone and reward myself for a significant achievement. It was the perfect choice for a special night out. The vibe is modern and trendy, yet warm and chic. The live jazz music was enjoyable at a well-controlled volume, rather than a distracting cacophony - and I was sitting right next to the band. If I'd had a dinner companion, we still could have had a conversation without having to yell at each other. They have a valet, but I found street parking about a block away on Valley Spring Lane. The items I ordered were absolutely scrumptious. I got the lobster tagliatelle, which had squid ink pasta, a perfectly spicy calabrian chili pomodoro, and butter foam. Every time a restaurant has served me "foam", it's just been a whimsical plop on the plate, more of a decoration or garnish. Verse's butter foam actually enhanced this dish, blending beautifully with the lobster meat and saucy pasta. For dessert, I had to try the caviar cheesecake. It was DIVINE. The cheesecake itself was the best I have ever had, and the caviar was an unexpectedly lovely complement. Together, it had a salty caramel-ish taste, kind of like toffee. I also had two martinis: the classic Verse gin martini with my entrée, and the espresso martini with my dessert. They were both strong, tasty, and expertly curated and mixed. This was one of the best meals I've ever had. For a decadent fine dining and entertainment experience, I would definitely recommend Verse. read more
