Verse is pure vibe and a strong representation of what LA venues could be....great! Take a nondescript recording studio and transform it in to a moody supper club - pure genius. It's operated by Manny Marroquin, a 17-time Grammy-winning mixing engineer. There are live performances built into the price of dinner, so there are no surprise cover charges. I love you Manny. The food is amazing and with service to match. Word of mouth will set this place apart from the rest. Caviar cheesecake was the standout winner.

Thoughtful ambiance and menu! Your senses won't know what's going on but you'll know your evening is in for the best dinner you can have at a speakeasy. Truly loved every moment at Verse. From the amazing acoustics of the live music to the serene atmosphere, you couldn't believe you were in a restaurant. Our amazing and super helpful server Dawson let us know that the hanging microphones and the specially built walls made such the perfect sound come through that while dining you get a noise cancelling experience that lets you hear every music beat and every word you speak while dining with your party. It's a truly unique sound and experience. I would come back 10x for that feeling of hearing my friends talk while not hearing the entire restaurant in the background. What ruins it for me at places is having to yell over the disruptive environment any restaurant would have but Verse just knew what they were doing and I'll forever come back just to dine in the most relaxing place. It's got a speakeasy vibe with easy listening music and a live band. Open for dinner only that truly offer the best place for even a date night. I went with a large group of 12 and had no issues hearing every conversation at the table. Loved the lounge and dark vibes. Even the bathroom visit leaves you wondering if you left reality and are dreaming up an alternate universe. Food speaks for itself but Dawson our lovely waiter made sure to capture all our allergies and food preferences including my ask about dairy free and no spicy. He quickly grabbed the dairy free menu for me which had so many options. And easily pointed out any dish that might send me running for water which was so helpful in narrowing down my choices. If you come for the milk buns you'll be delighted because the amount of softness and whipped butter was to die for! So many shareable and plenty of options to satisfy any eater. I especially loved how perfectly portioned everything was so you weren't left struggling if a single dish was too large. Every dish was built with perfection and love. You can't go wrong with anything but I especially loved the pork belly risotto. Pastas leaned a bit more salty or heavy for my liking but several friends in my group tried them and not one complained about any flavors. Come for a date come for a birthday group gathering or anything at all! Just a fabulous experience from beginning to end and you gotta give it up for the musicians keeping us entertained. Parking was super easy. We did street parking. Plenty of metered options free on Sundays or if you need to they have valet for $15 but street parking will be much easier. Thank you to Dawson and the staff for giving us luxury fine dining service. Even a restaurant without table cloths can achieve greatness so give Verse a chance and trust me you'll want to come back again and again!!

PARKING: Not sure if there is available parking here as they do have a valet. 15$ for it but you're paying for the convenience! SEATING: Greeted twice! Once outside and once inside. They were all so nice to welcome us and congratulate us for our anniversary as we had reservations. They even sat us down a bit earlier as we came 15 minutes early. Plenty of seating! Just all indoors. There's a mix of high rise tables, regular tables, and booths. I was lucky enough to pick between one regular table in the middle or one booth by the stage. I chose the one closest by the stage as it seemed cooler! (And it was!!) Very comfy seats! The tables are a bit small for my tastes but they made it work! Being so close to the stage was extremely cool and it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. The trio played every half hour which was nice! SERVICE: Dawson is the best server hands down!! Def ask for him next time if you go. He was so knowledgeable, kind, and helpful as I came here to celebrate my anniversary with my partner. Dawson made sure we were fully taken care of. The runners/other wait staff were also incredibly kind and so lovely to congratulate us as well. The food came out at a good pace. We were never left with an empty/dirty table. The water was always filled up for us. There was no awkward lapses between the courses. It was a nice flow to the evening that went along with the live music. Just incredible service, 10/10 across the board! FOOD: Hokkaido Milk Buns 10/10 Wagyu Tartare 10/10 Smoking Old Fashioned 10/10 Side of Mushrooms 10/10 Aged Duck Breast 100/10 Lobster Tagliatelle 9/10 (Just missing a little something but was still amazing!! I think compared to the duck, it didn't hit that mark for me fully.) French Toast 10/10 Chocolate and Caramel 9/10 (The cake was a bit too dense for me! But the ice cream was excellent!!) Just wow!! Everything really was so amazing and delicious. I just could not get enough! Everything about the food was just a wonderful trip for your taste buds. I hope to one day try everything on this menu because wow, my expectations were met and so much more!! I am still dreaming about the duck and the two type of potatoes! Just wow! They even gave us a free dessert which was super nice and sooooo yummy!! 10/10 OVERALL: I cannot wait to come back here for the music, the ambiance, the service, and the food. This place is such a magical and wonderful place that I am so thankful to have found to celebrate a great milestone for me and my partner! This is a place we will be talking about for many years!

TLDR: 5/5 - Heartbreak feels good in a place like this. The food was sensational, the service was in the nines, the ambiance was lux. I simply don't know where to go from here. Ordered: Apps - Milk Buns: 4.2/5 - I feel like these are a crowd pleaser, which is great! Against the rest of the menu they sort of felt out of place to me but I am glad it was different than just regular bread rolls. - Croquettes: 5/5 - These reminded me of abuela's tamales wrapped up in a little ball. The flavor was amazing, so well balanced with heat, saltiness and savory. Really good. - Kale Sprouts: 5/5 - Big kale and brussel girl. So when a place does them right, its hard not to want to share and get your own bowl. Don't leave without ordering this. - Octopus: 4.3/5 - You know I don't know much about Octopus but I will say this was extremely tender. I think it also came with some kind of potato that was amazing?? - Apple Salad: 4/5 - Light, fresh and crispy. A great palette cleanser - Yellowtail Crudo: 5/5 - This is my new gold standard of what Yellowtail crudo should be. It was stupidly fresh, zesty, tart, basking in this sauce that was drinkable but alas, I had to have some decorum. Roasted Potatoes: 3.8/5 - Personally I don't think truffle is ever done right however I do think this was done the best than most I've had in some time. With that said they were just okay. I think they'd be a big hit for the table especially with the cheese - Tuna Toastado Sashimi: 4.7/5 - This was fun! Who would've thought whipped sweet potato would pair with tuna sashimi. Great balance. The fresh-fried tortilla chips took it over the edge Main - Branzino: 4.8/5 - This was served with a peanut mole and sweet potato bruleed. The fish, on its own, lacks flavor, which is where the mole comes in, but it could've benefited from more mole or perhaps just a pinch of seasoning on top. With that said the fish was cooked beautifully. If you don't like skin this isn't for you. To bruelee sweet potato is genius. - Roasted Carrots: 4.5/5 - A proper rabbit carrot which I love. Had a good bite to it too. I personally loved the slight acidity on this. - Roasted Broccolini: 4/5 - Amongst the giants on the table these were perfectly okay. Great for anyone who just needs a vegetable. - Roasted Corn: 5/5 - Woah, final boss for corn lovers. Its a little bit of work to discover but once you taste it? Imagine almost an elote street corn without the fixings but with all the similar flavors? Its a shame I didn't have more. Dessert: - Olive Cake: 4/5 - Small for the price but it was nice. Light on the stomach after some heavier entrees. - Chocolate Cake with Miso Ice Cream: 5/5 - It was the miso ice cream that took (over) the cake for me. We as americans are only just discovering the multitude of what miso can do and this is one of them. Salt and Straw hates to know they didn't do it first. Service: 5/5 The service is what I imagined if I went to EMP. Maybe that's too high of a pedastal but I'm only a dreamer and have only read the book so call me a dreamer. I felt doted on by a team of gentlemen who just walked out of a GQ magazine. They were very accommodating with the allergies at the table. My water cup also never ran dry which is a big deal for me, I know. Chef Oscar also came out to talk to us who is amazing, thank you!! Ambiance: 5/5 I mean when we use the word vibe I think this is what it was meant for originally. Its a little sultry, dark and mysterious without it being a "I can't see my food." The dimness is honestly perfect, and it makes it just intimate enough to enjoy the company of your own party while enjoying the entertainment. The place is huge and is great for larger groups or a date night. This is all finished with a jazz band that's playing in the front which surprisingly is not loud enough to where you can't hear your party, so it really just sweetens the deal for an ideal mood set. Parking I had no issue with street parking, especially since their hours are only 1 hour after metered parking ends and its on the tail end of lankershim so there aren't a ton of businesses around but you can valet if you want. What can I say other than that this was a good time well spent. ,

Acoustics and atmosphere are top-tier. One live performer was a bit off but the overall energy was still 10/10. Bread & Butter: Perfect start. Scallops: Super fresh and the foam was a flavor bomb. Pastas: Two unique, creative sauces that hit the spot. Duck Breast: Cooked to perfection. Tender and juicy. Service: On point. Attentive and professional. A perfect blend of high-end dining and live music. Everything we ate was flawless.

4.5/5 stars This review is for the Valentine's Day special menu, which came with 6 courses. My thoughts on the 6 courses: 1. Ora king salmon: The salmon was soft and tasted fresh. The fried kelp was extra crispy. 2. Shigoku oyster - The oyster was flavorful with the potatoes/leeks and was tender. 3. Porcini dumpling - The dumpling had a great chanterelle flavor, and the skin of the dumpling had the perfect soft and firm texture. The inside could have had more meat, and I would have preferred the dumpling to be hot instead of room temperature. 4. Lobster risotto - The lobster piece was a good size and cooked to the perfect texture, although I would have preferred the lobster to be hot, temperature-wise instead of cold. The risotto was creamy and cheesy 5. Choice of A5 wagyu or sea bream - My fiancé got the A5 wagyu, and the seasoning was amazing - it had a slightly sweet touch. The sea bream was extra crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The pickled cucumbers were too spicy for me. 6. Churro with a raspberry/coconut sauce - Cute heart-shaped churro, that was a great texture (light and not too dense). Overall, I enjoyed all 6 dishes. The dishes were quite small, so the meal wasn't filling, but it was still a delicious and fun experience. They had live music on occasions, so that was nice.

Went to Verse to celebrate my fiancés birthday and couldn't have asked for a better night. Our server, Jay was super chill and helpful! He told us about the cool facts about the restaurant and chef. From the moment we walked in, we just felt the good vibes. They had good live music as well! The food and drinks were amazing! 10/10! For drinks we got the espresso martini and the "Pancho" For food, we ordered the milk buns, pork belly risotto, Australian wagyu, side of roasted corn. Left some room for dessert and ordered the cookies and cream! Highly recommend making a reservation. Will definitely be coming back!

Very cool vibes that's uniquely Verse LA! Went on a Friday night and were seated immediately (thanks to having a reservation). We ordered Hokkaido Milk Buns, Peruvian scallops, Braised Beef and Dunguness Crab Capanelle. The Braised Beef was the standout for us for its tenderness and tasty texture. We ate as slowly as we could to savor the Braised Beef! The jazz pianist Scott and bass player were super cool with the audio level perfect to enjoy the music and hold a conversation. Makes sense since the entire restaurant is a sound studio! 5 stars for this foodie and audiophile. Check it out Yelpers by reserving a table asap! We will be back.

Wow!!!! What an experience. I had searched far and wide for the perfect restaurant to celebrate a birthday and I must say this spot checks off all the boxes!!! First if you love live music with your dinner, this is already the place you have to book. The band plays spectacular jazz for thirty minutes on and off. Now let's dive in! We ordered the milk buns, the duck, the tostada, tartare, and a side of potatoes. My oh my was everything absolutely cooked to perfection and the flavors quite literally melt on your tongue. 1. The Milk Buns : Absolutely addicting. They come out hot with a side of this delectable sweet cream. All the review of saying these are like crack...they did not lie. I would go back just for these buns. 2. The duck: So succulent and cooked medium rare. The skin was crunchy and paired so perfectly with the potatoes and sweet glaze. I had some the next day and it was still so moist and juicy. 3. Tostada: Such a good starter!! I would not say it was mind blowing but I had no bad notes on the flavors. 4. Tartare: I adore how the bread was large and they did not skimp on it. The meat was fresh and very bite was perfect. 5. Side of potatos: My oh my this was the most surprising dish of the night. A great portion of creamy but not mushy potatos with truffle weaved between every bite. I was so satisfied with this dish and I could not get ENOUGH of pairing it with the duck and tartare. So simple yet done so well. Overall, this restaurant is absolutely worth the money and most especially for a date night, birthday, anniversary etc. I adored every bite and they also surprised us with a little treat at the end of the dinner for the birthday. Final Verdict: Killer 1000/10

My husband took me to Verse for a pre-birthday dinner while we were staying in the area for vacation, and wow! this place was outstanding. The ambiance, live music, service, and of course the food were all beyond perfect for us. Once we were seated and mentioned we wanted a bottle of wine, they immediately sent over their sommelier. Verse has one of the most extensive wine lists in the area, and the sommelier was fantastic. We shared what dishes we were planning to order and the kind of wine we were in the mood for, also that we wanted to do something Californian since we were there, and he instantly got our taste. His recommendations were spot on, he absolutely nailed it. We got a fantastic white from a small winery from Paso Robles. Just what we were looking for. We started with the oysters and sashimi, and the freshness was something I can't explain. For mains, I ordered the aged duck breast. So tender and incredibly flavorful. The Oaxacan cheese added a unique twist, loved it. My husband had the branzino, which was amazing. The combination of mole and sweet potato was perfection. 1000/10. We also got the side of broccolini For dessert, we shared the olive oil cake... AMAZING. Can't recommend Verse enough.

Love love love the ambiance and restaurant decor. Just stunning. They had a live band but only played like 3 songs the whole time we were there. Our waiter was cool hooked us up with more butter for the Hokkaido bread and the sauce on my husband's braised beef dish for my dish because the braised lamb was spicy. The old fashion did not disappoint with the smoking done in front of us. We drove quite a distance to get here so I'm not sure the food impressed us that much for another hour trip out here but if I lived in the area I would definitely frequent.

Verse delivers a complete experience, not just a meal. Great music, incredible food, and outstanding hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a special night out. Every dish we tried was absolutely amazing -- beautifully presented and full of flavor.

We came for an anniversary celebration. Came on a Saturday night. There is street parking, metered. However we elected for vallet. $15. I ordered the manhattan. The base alcohol was rum, not bourbon. Interesting twist. Was OKAY. Everyone else really enjoyed their drinks. Appetizers were tasty. Ordered the lamb braised pasta. Very good, and surprisingly had a spicy kick - which I love. Good for special occasions. Bathrooms were clean.

One decently sized room for the bar, booths and tables. This place fills up fast especially on trivia nights so if you are sensitive to crowded spaces and loud noises (music and all the talking) just be prepared. :) Our group got a nice mix of the pretzel, beef tallow waffle fries and cheese with jam. All topped off with a real nice pilsner. You place your order at the bar and they bring it to you, the bartenders were top notch and really made our group feel welcome. Would come back for sure!

The chicken was a little dry and the seasoning on it just tasted spicy to be spicy. No real flavor. The cucumber and slaw also did not help with the bland taste. It really needed an acidic component to bring the flavors out or an aioli. The fries it came with were divine though! I subbed for waffle fries and they were oh so crispy! Corpse Reviver - Get it. Just get it. Refreshing with just the right amount of alcohol I want to taste in my drink hehe. Food came out timely, staff were helpful and attentive. Great place for a group of 4-5 - anymore and it'd be too crowded as they don't have big tables. Loved the vibe of the place. I really want to like LIKE this spot so I think I'll get something else entree wise next time!

Once we arrived the interior had a relaxed, easygoing vibe, modern but cozy, with stylish design touches that made the whole space feel welcoming and unhurried. Even the waiting area with it's low lit seating surrounded by book cases was really cool. My wife, my sister and I had a wonderful table near the fireplace in the center of the dining area. Nearby were draped booths that would be perfect for a more romantic evening. Our server was, Haley...she was incredible. Very personable, helpful and extremely professional. You'll be in good hands if you're lucky enough to get her! Then the food...Wow. My wife and my sister got the filet migons, watching my wife's euphoric reaction of taking her fist bite made my evening! Omg...thankfully, my wife let me try garlic fries that came with the filets, and they were the best I ever had! I got the Langostino Fettuccine...outstanding. You have to dig a little spicy, which I do...but the vodka cream sauce is the real highlight of this dish. For deserts we got the apple cobbler, the creme brulee and sticky toffee cake. All three were fantastic. But I preferred the cobbler and the toffee cake the most. We didn't get the Le Petit Gateau, their chocolate cake...but we decided to get one to go! HA...it's unbelievably rich and pretty tall and big. It's topped with candied wild cheries...it's two days later and we're still eating this yummy treat. All in all...I would recommend this for any occasion...wether you're looking for just a night out with solid service and great food, to a romantic evening. We got there around 6...but later on there was live music with these two gentlemen on guitars that really played perfect atmosphere music. You can't go wrong with a night out at Firefly!

Music was kinda loud that it was kinda hard to converse with friends. Bartenders we're nice, although it took awhile for our orders to be served. Quesadilla and garlic fries we're not bad choices. Pros: free parking in the back, bartender is friendly, food is offered, space is large. Cons: food and drinks were bad, games were minimal, damaged, with pieces everywhere, staff was off putting Examples: - my friend ordered a hot chocolate and said it was the worst she's ever had. The water to powder ratio made it more like tea. She asked for more powder. They brought out a Swiss Miss packet, and made passive aggressive comments about how they were going above and beyond for her and they should charge her double (she's not a picky person so for her to complain you know it's bad) - we only found three games in the place but they were small plastic things like flick the ball into the hoop with all pieces out of the boxes and laying randomly under a tv tray behind a bar table - the food wasn't very good - the waiter didn't remember he needed my payment for the two hours I was there - the menu was basically non existent because their fryer was down and so they couldn't offer most items - it was dark and hard to see anything - the owner and her relative took over our hangout for around 30-40 min, asking us to bring in our "actor friends" and help them get more business.

It was more than what we expected and we have a good time. I didn't have anything to eat because I had already ate before coming here but my friend said that the food was really good -and she's a picky eater; so I'll take her word on it. They…read morehave a tiki marketplace several times a year, and this one was held on a Sunday afternoon from noon to 6pm. It takes place mostly in their rear patio area and parking lot, but a good number of vendors were also in an adjacent air conditioned event room. They have a very small parking lot, but it was occupied by vendors during this event. Do not park in the parking lots of the adjacent businesses, as we were warned when entering the Tonga Hut that cars get towed regularly. There's plenty of street parking in the nearby neighborhood. Entering from the rear, there is a good sized covered patio with around eight benches. We went inside to check it out and grab a drink. The interior is fairly small with four good sized booths, a lounge area with a large J-shaped couch with several small tables, and around ten seats at the bar. It is dimly lit with some basic tiki décor, and has an old-school feel. They had a fixed cocktail menu for this event which is understandable. We stood in line at the bar for about ten minutes, got our drinks and went out to the patio. The bartender was friendly, and didn't seem flustered by the high volume of patrons. I had the Horned Beast O' The Celtic Sea (Oceanus Hibernicus Irish Malt, Jamacian Rum, House Made Falernum & Orgeat, Peach, Citrus, Dash of Cherry Heering, $13). She had the Leprechaun Grog (Three Rums, Lime, Grapefruit, Honey, Spice, Soda, $14). Both drinks were good, were served in souvenir plastic cups, and were a bargain at $13 to $14. If you ordered a drink containing Oceanus whiskey, the bartender gave you a gold coin and you could exchange it with the Oceanus representative on the patio for a free T-shirt. Durango Tacos was setup near the rear entrance for food. We had four tacos (two carne asada and two veggie), and they were good and reasonably priced. This was the first tiki marketplace we have attended. There were around twenty vendors with a good assortment of art work, tiki mugs, tiki clothing, tiki décor, and other miscellaneous items. I purchased a few nice tiki shirts which were a steal at $20 and $25. The vendors and visitors were all very friendly and in a festive mood. We hung out for about ninety minutes and had a good time. We will return at some point to try their regular cocktail menu and see what it's like on a non-event night.

We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it
