We found this place last minute to watch the final FIFA World Cup game when we were turned around from another spot. Thank god we got turned away because this place is a hidden gem. They do have parking behind the building which seems to fill pretty quickly if they're busy, but it's easy to find parking around the neighborhood. I am not usually in the tavern scene so I was surprised that we had to order and pay at the bar, but it wasn't a big issue. My friend and I split the kale caesar salad and the macaroni and cheese. For the table, I ordered the waffle fries after being informed by the kind waitress that that was the better choice over the pretzel (which she also said was amazing). Since the place was filling up for the final, the kitchen was a bit slow, but we barely noticed with how attentive the staff were in getting us drinks and refills. When it came to food, we were pleasantly surprised with this place and is honestly the reason I'm writing this review. The first things we got were the Beef Tallow Waffle Fries, Caesar Salad, and mac and cheese. Obviously the fries were much better, however the salad was also divine but just swimming in dressing. Back to the fries, we all were mindblown with how tavern fries could be this good and had so many flavors. Even the skinny queens in our group kept snacking on them which tells you how good these were. Mac and cheese came and it was standard and creamy but not necessarily something I'd return for. The surprising thing on top of the fries that majority of us loved was the Vegan Tomato Scampi with shrimp. It was fire and had me questioning if it was even Vegan. Would definitely return here if I find my way back to SoCal from the Bay. Great unassuming place with great food and vibes. Their bathroom as well is super clean and nice! Love this place! read more

We held an event in the private room at Inkwell Tavern on 6/8 and it truly couldn't have been better! The team at Inkwell was so kind and worked with us to accommodate EVERYTHING we wanted - from the timing of the plates, to making room for our photobooth set up, to serving a speciality cocktail we requested!! (Which was delicious!) The communication with management was great. They encouraged us to come in a few days before to do a tech test to make sure everything ran smoothly for the screening part of our event. As expected, things did indeed run smoothly as a result! Their Monday night karaoke was going on simultaneously and the sound didn't interfere with our screening at all. We had about 30 attendees and the room was a very comfortable size for us, it's also beautiful! The entire experience was fantastic, we're very happy with how the evening turned out! The drinks here are excellent! You order at the bar and they bring your food to you. Masala Grilled Chicken Sandwich - Tasted bland but too spicy at the same time. Very one note. The chicken was a little dry and the seasoning on it just tasted spicy to be spicy. No real flavor. The cucumber and slaw also did not help with the bland taste. It really needed an acidic component to bring the flavors out or an aioli. The fries it came with were divine though! I subbed for waffle fries and they were oh so crispy! Corpse Reviver - Get it. Just get it. Refreshing with just the right amount of alcohol I want to taste in my drink hehe. Food came out timely, staff were helpful and attentive. Great place for a group of 4-5 - anymore and it'd be too crowded as they don't have big tables. Loved the vibe of the place. I so badly want to love this adorable tavern. The ambiance is great, the staff is lovely, they have TVs for my husband to watch sports....but the food is just not cutting it. The kale salad is super salty(and I love salt) the cheese plate has too many "smoked" items and the burger is just ok. I think I found a new spot for happy hour and dinning on Friday nights. I wish I knew this place existed before. I really had a great time during my visit. As we walked, we were seated right away no wait which was surprising fora Friday night. Ordering is done mostly at the bar. The food came out really fast which was really appreciated since they were really busy. For food, I highly recommend ordering pretzel. It was so good. I can say it was one of the best ones I had since I love pretzels. I ordered chicken sandwich with fries. I really enjoyed my chicken sandwich and it was still fresh and yummy next day. Our drinks were great too. I should give a big shout out to the bartender who made the drinks. For ambiance, there are TVs for people who are interested in watching games. It is not loud at all and it was easy to have a conversation. Not like other places that you can't have a conversation. Parking, this location has a private parking lot in the back. I visited Inkwell Tavern for the first time last Wednesday. I met with friends for dinner at around 7:30pm. I parked a block away from the restaurant, and it was easy to find street parking at this time. My friend reserved our booth in advance. It didn't seem super busy at this time; there were open seats by the bar and high tables. The tavern feels upscale, yet casual - a good place to meet with friends after work. We had to order at the bar first, and the food and drinks came out quite fast. I chose the Masala Grilled Chicken Sandwich ($16) and the Mocking Bird ($9). The Chicken Sandwich was delicious; the chicken was flavorful, and the fresh & pickled veggies balanced out the meal. The dish came with a side of French fries, which were perfectly crisp & salted. The Mocking Bird was a slightly tart and refreshing mocktail. The drink had a little too much ice for my liking, but it still paired well with my entree. Also, can't forget about dessert! We shared the Cast Iron Chocolate Cake ($12), which was very sweet and gooey in the middle. read more

Inkwell was recommended by a friend and after the vibe, service and food from our night out I can see why. First off, parking is street parking and in the surrounding neighborhood so give yourself a little time to find a spot. The building is a little smaller than I imagined. One decently sized room for the bar, booths and tables. This place fills up fast especially on trivia nights so if you are sensitive to crowded spaces and loud noises (music and all the talking) just be prepared. :) Our group got a nice mix of the pretzel, beef tallow waffle fries and cheese with jam. All topped off with a real nice pilsner. You place your order at the bar and they bring it to you, the bartenders were top notch and really made our group feel welcome. It was around 7pm and the place was PACKED. Maybe 2-3 open tables only. You have to walk up to the bar to place your order for both food and beverage - which was kind of odd but also understandable. There's a writing and literature aesthetic, so expect to feel like you're in the library of a manor. Actual inkwells, shelves of books, Tudor panelling, an old typewriter - perfectly Instagrammable spot. My two favourite items are the "Turn The Page" tequila cocktail and their beef tallow fries, a skillet concoction of flavourful pork, chimichurri, and garlic aioli atop saturated, crisp waffle fries. Came here as a part of my friend's birthday bar crawl and loved it! We already had a few drinks at the bar next door but we had been out all night so we were hungry. We came about 10 minutes before the kitchen was going to close, but the bartender was so nice and even asked our group if we wanted to order any food before they closed. It was such a nice gesture because most places don't really like taking orders at the last minute. We tried the steak frites, pretzel, and the beef tallow waffle fries. The steak was actually perfectly seasoned and cooked and we were all really impressed! The pretzel was piping hot and came with two sauces to dip. I highly recommend the garlic aioli and ranch, which were both creamy and delicious. The beef tallow fries were perfectly crispy and were LOADED. I loved the decorations inside since it was dimly lit and had the perfect vibe for a night out or for a date. We stopped in because we heard about Whiskey Wednesday. You get 3 - 1/2 ounce pours of your choice for $20. They had a nice selection to choose from. We tried a charcuterie board and wings to start. Great ambiance! Loved the decor and the look of the leather booth seating (for groups), most tables and booths were already reserved, maybe for their karaoke night. Let me just start off by saying that the bartender was so amazing - the Whodunnit Mocktail was absolutely delicious (sweet and spicy and sparkling at the same time - the tripleS!) Now that you're hooked, here's the full review. We stopped by on a Monday at 6:30pm (right before happy hour ends) and were easily able to find a table. The happy hour deals were pretty great for drinks on tap ($2 off so $6 beers) but only $2 off for appetizers which is not something to be sad about if you put in food later. As I mentioned above, the mocktail was amazing! The food on the other hand was mid at best - I had the banh mi with fries and the banh mi was tasteless and the fries were mushy. Prices aren't too bad though. Cool spot to hang but maybe not on a Monday after 8pm unless you're there to sing. It gets too loud to hear your neighbor talk so either go early and dip or just stay there and listen! May just stick to happy hour drinks next time! What a pleasant late afternoon was spent at the very comfortable bar passing the time with Cam, a skilled bartender and pleasant young person. The Vesper Martini was exquisite! Gin and Vodka?!? Why not? Good enough for James Bond and perfect for this martini lover. I almost ordered the beef tallow fries, but went with the banh mi style sandwich as it is a lighter dish. It was scrumptious. The garlicky pork (also used on the tallow fries) is remarkably flavorful and complements the other ingredients. I didn't have dessert this time, but have enjoyed the cast iron chocolate cake (made to order, 20 minutes min) and vegan monkey bread in the past. There is no table service per se. One orders at the bar when ready and receives a number. There are 4 or 5 nice round booths (4 people or more required) and a number of high tops for duos. I loved the Chained Rabbit, which was the precursor to Inkwell. I remember that the new owners wanted windows on the San Fernando side and it was a dealbreaker. I've got to say, as much as I love a dark dive bar, it was literally a breath of fresh air when the windows were fully opened yesterday in the late afternoon. Refreshing! Prices are competitive. Very disappointed. We came here very excited about the menu and vibe of Inkwell. We enjoy drinking quality cocktails that are fairly priced...but when we were handed the bill for our two old fashions and margaritas we saw we were not only charged for the liquor of course (what we expected) but then also up-charged on the bartenders making it a "margarita" and even up-charged to make it a "Cadillac Margarita" which is adding a touch of Grand Mariner to the drink (which they didn't even have) Then we also were again up-charged to make our whiskey an "Old Fashioned" Again, we are happy to pay for quality cocktails and ambiance...but the up-charges here are out of control. We had two cocktails each and ONE happy hour pretzel for $95. We will not sadly be coming back. Very upsetting and disappointing. read more

I ordered a simple Olde Fashion and she had the Espresso Martini. Both very good. The ambience...is chill, with a nice vibe for coming here for a drink or staying to have a bite with that drink. A fun one looks to be Tuesday which is includes tequila, tacos, and trivia -- how could anything go more right? Right?
