The woman behind the bar said she'd be with me "in a sec" and proceeded to serve 3 regulars who arrived after us. This cozy wine bar/store is located next to many busy restaurants on Riverside. It's pretty subtle from the outside but not to be missed. It was our first time here and we had a great experience! Our host Hannah recommended several nice wines to go with our charcuterie board (two cheeses, salami, bread) - our favorite was their sparkling rose. Btw she was the only one working and did a fantastic job taking care of everyone in the store. A few FYIs.. they currently no longer have happy hour but their prices and pours are quite reasonable at regular costs. I maintain that you discover the best little places when you're not looking for them. We were waiting for our sushi takeout about three doors down, and decided to take a stroll by the storefronts. This little wine shoppe had beautiful ambient lighting and a friendly face. We saw two people sipping wine and thought hey! Let's do that. Glad we did! I got a glass of Skylark Rosé and it was so delicious! The perfect glass. They have a fridge in the back and offer lots of great little eats by Room Forty, a privately owned and operated upscale meal service. Buttermilk biscuits, baba ganoush and pita kits, you name it- this place has everything you need for a date night or evening with friends. You must wear a mask and you must sit outside. Ariel was very sweet, friendly, and helpful when selecting our wines. These days, friendliness seems hard to come by. Her service and conversation took us out of the pandemic funk and for that brief glass of wine on the patio, we forgot about everything else :-) read more

A chill wine bar with industrial vibe, also a wine store. The tasting menu has mostly Spanish and Italian, but also a few French and local central California wines. Happy hour is 1-4p weekends. I'm sad their happy hour ends so early. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from $7-16 wines per glass and also beers. Great service. There were 4 snacks on the menu. Like chips, almonds, egg, chartcuterie plate. Perhaps the last is the best if you're hungry, or just go to nearby shop for other food. The atmosphere is chill and cozy. Indie fans, they play music like Heartless Bastards and War on Drugs. The people are very friendly. Parking is on the street, valet in back or nearby lots. It wasn't a problem at 5pm Saturday. I tried the Granacha Blanca, a light, mellow, citrus similar to pino Grigio from Spain. There are also some very light, non sweet reds. It wasn't my style of wines, but you may like it. Perfect for a glass of wine before dinner! This is definitely our favorite spot for sushi pre-game (we love Kabosu the next door sushi place, but the line is always at least 30 minutes so we are obliged to get a drink to kill some time)! They have very fine wines - the place is intimate cozy and romantic, we usually go for the bar and we always find some people to chat with I would recommend it for a date (if he or she is a wine lover) or for a catch up hang with friends! They have been on our list for some time now, and we finally had an opportunity to stop in a few weeks ago during a local open house for some of the businesses. We grabbed a seat by the big front window (my new favorite seat for anytime we go!) and perused the menu. They have a great selection of wines and we settled on a great Cabernet. Yeah, apparently we thought being promiscuous and kissing several random people in a short time span was cool. Sorry, I digress in my old age! As adults, we different bottles to 'play' with: wine bottles. Arguably, this may not be any healthier but again: I digress! For those wanting some bottle service, there is Spin the Bottle Wine Studio in Toluca Lake. Spin the Bottle is a small winery spot nestled on Riverside near the intersection of Forman (next to Malbec and Forman's Tavern). It is somewhat difficult to find because the lettering on the awning doesn't stick out (at least not so much when it is dark out). Once inside, claustrophobia may slightly kick in as the interior is mostly a compact (longer than it is wide) wine shop with a tiny bar/seating area to the right. Consider it more of a small neighborhood shop with no bells or whistles. In fact, that is precisely the ambiance: Spin the Bottle feels like a casual visit to your friend's house who has some knowledge in wine and wants to give you a tasting of his/her supply. After a quick browsing of the wine and beer selection for sale; we grabbed a couple seats at the bar to imbibe in a glass of wine. Spin the Bottle offers wine and beer by the glass, some flight options, and 'snacks' for munching (or soaking up the alcohol?). The female on duty (I forget her name, unfortunately) was friendly and informative about the selection and was quick to offer samples of any wine we wanted to pre-taste before purchase. We ended up choosing a glass of Beckmen (Red Syrah-- $10) and Mobius (Red Zinfandal-- $13). We also fell victim to the Rosemary Marcona Almonds ($6) and the famous Truffle Potato Chips. The wine was served in a well-sized glass (they didn't skimp) and was delicious! I loved my Beckmen and the Mobius was equally delightful. However, wine is subjective so let's speak more of the snacks: the Rosemary Almonds are too die for, addicting! Perfect blend of the Cadillac nut of the almond world with herbs while the Truffle Potato Chips? HEAVEN! The chips are crisp, kettle style with a heavy truffle flavor. Great for those who secretly wish they could own a pig who finds the truffles in Italy (I heard pigs are no longer used though cause they were eating the truffles. I don't blame them!). You MUST try these chips! The servings are small but perfect to complement a glass of wine as they are a snack and not a full plate. It can be a little difficult to hear your neighbor inside Spin the Bottle as it seemed to get a bit loud and the tight quarters doesn't lean towards intimacy. Again, this spot is more casual but still conducive to a light-hearted date. Let's be frank: alcohol makes you have to use the restroom. Ladies, the restroom is large and has purse hooks so you won't be stumbling in some stall. Spin the Bottle hooks you up. Spin the Bottle also features happy hour specials which are worth checking out such as $5 glasses of wine. There isn't much more to say about Spin the Bottle. It's not mind blowing, standout, and may not be as fun as a game of Spin the Bottle as a kid. But it's a nice spot to grab a glass of wine if in the neighborhood and wanting to "be out" versus at home. Spin the Bottle isn't necessarily a destination wine studio but decent otherwise. We've been coming to Spin the Bottle since we moved to LA. It's actually one of the reasons as newbies to LA from AZ we fell in love with the area we live in. The winetenders(if it's not a name yet it is now) are awesome. Scott and Hannah run the show 90% of the time. This place gets lost a little bit because it's right next to Foreman's. However, it's important to know the crowd here is completely different from Foreman's. The frat party vibe from next door doesn't carry over. It's loud on busy nights but you can hear the people your with. The wine selection to have by the glass is impressive. It doesn't stop there though, draping the walls are shelves of even more wine to choose from, and the staff is armed with vast knowledge of what may please your taste buds. There's no food here EXCEPT on Tuesday and Thursday. There's a rotating food type on Thursdays but Tuesday is always awesome Tacos. They do have snacks though, and the cheese plate is legit along with the truffle potato chips. One of my favorite parts about here is they are perfectly ok with you bringing in food from one of the many riverside restaurants you can walk to. So go order, sit and have a glass of wine while you wait, go grab your food and come back and enjoy both together while being served by the best (Scott and Hannah) read more

Great neighborhood spot. What I love about this place is the staff! They might not be Somms, but they aren't wine snobs either and they will help you pick a nice glass of wine if needed! Hannah is the best! She is super down to earth, welcoming, and one of those warm/happy souls that complements the wine. The wine itself is not your vintage, old stuff, super high end like in other wine bars around the area, but it is still good/ready to drink now/affordable wine. This is the place where people are still down to earth (not like other places that their staff think they are the s--- just because they might be Somm or pour vintage wines!) and it has a chill vibe! I was in the area and was drawn to this place cus of its cute name. We wanted to wait out the rain & traffic, so we stopped in for a wine flight. I really love the vibe of wine bars. The place is super simple and chic and has such a relaxed ambiance. Our sommelier was also very informative and helpful. Unfortunately they only have a small selection of snacks to pair with the wines. I know it's a wine bar, so I can't expect anything more than just small finger food. Parking is typical LA street parking. I was lucky to find a spot only a block away. If I lived in the area I would definitely frequent this place. Cute little place. Service was great and they made suggestions and seemed to know the wines. Not a huge selection, but everybody should find something. Only had some almonds from a small snack menu but they had a taco "truck" in front that was pretty good. It was actually just a woman with a grill, but it was good. (As he told us...) we ordered a glass of Chardonnay each that was $10 bucks a glass. The bottle was sitting behind us for sale and we asked him if we could just get a bottle (for $22) and he told us he would not pour a bottle.. And there was a corkage fee. Then there was a lady at the end of the bar that had a glass of wine that was so full it made mine look like simply a sip. As my friend said while here... "It's his loss. We went on a Thursday night and the crowd seemed to be older, single people after work. We were very excited for the opening of a wine bar in the Toluca Lake/Burbank area. We stopped in a few weeks ago to see what the new place in the neighborhood was like and were very happy with the results. The man who owns the place was there to help us and really made us feel at home. He really did pride himself on finding different wines that you wouldn't find at the typical store. You can tell that he is very passionate about wine and was willing to answer all of my questions, which is always a nice perk. All of his suggestions for wines were fantastic and he had us try a few different wines to see which one we liked before choosing which glass to sit down and enjoy. At the point when we visited (the first week of January) they did not have too much of going on in terms of food going on yet, but we had some hummus along with our wine that was delicious. We thought we were stopping in for just a glass of wine and left buying 4 other bottles of wine, which have been fantastic thus far. Love this place! Everyone is so nice and attentive. I usually only come for the Tappy Hour, which is currently M-W from 4-7pm. It's $2 off any wine on their "tap." Basically, it's great wine (not happy hour wine at most bars, which not great) at a discounted price. Fabulous! It's a nice little place on Riverside Drive.
