I had a gift card for here and I've heard good things so I was given the opportunity to try this place out. We went for happy hour on a friday evening and were seated right away. We ended up basically getting half of the happy hour menu. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice ($8), Crispy Chicken ($12), Seared Albacore ($16), Yellowtail Serrano ($16), and Salmon Truffle Roll ($16). For drinks we ordered both happy hour cocktails, the Fusion and the Yuzu Margarita ($12 each). Outside of the happy hour menu we also ordered the Chef's Choice 5 Piece Sushi. Everything we ordered was amazing. The fish was so fresh and the drinks were really strong. The crispy chicken definitely helped the most in getting us full. The chef's choice was also great because you get to try out multiple items and see what you like, even though we ended up liking all of them. Our server passed by often and was easy to wave down whenever we needed anything. They checked up on us often and whenever we requested anything they were quick to bring them out to us. The flavors are well balanced and make the fish stand out Sweet and Spicy Crab Roll - 4/5 - Definitely run in the mill all these considered out of this line up but that doesn't mean its not good there's just better ones. I think the flavor has potential to be better! Service: 5/5 We made a reservation for 8 ahead of time and were seated sort of in the heart of the restaurant but there's still so much room and arrangements you never really felt like it was super busy. The staff were so on top of it to accommodate. Dishes arrived in record time, glasses filled without us needing to ask, alterations were accepted. We had a birthday and they were so incredibly patient to make sure our whole party was there to bring out the cupcakes we got. God bless them we had no idea they were waiting in the kitchen! But they treated us not only with our own cupcakes served but their dessert as well. Truly unreasonable hospitality Vibe: 5/5 As I said this is kind of a vibe. First time here, and I've been meaning to try Taisho for a long time--so glad we finally did because we were definitely impressed and really enjoyed our time. The hosts and servers were very friendly. Our server, Sarah, was especially kind and helpful. She was patient, gave great recommendations, and truly made the experience even better. Everything we ordered was amazing: the spinach salad, lobster roll, spicy albacore roll, toro sushi, crispy chicken, and a few other dishes I can't even remember because we ate it so fast I didn't get to take pictures. It was all so fresh and delicious. My husband is very picky, especially with sushi, and even he was really impressed--he already promised to take me back. The restaurant has a really nice, date-night vibe, even though we were there with a baby and family. I visited Taisho with a friend and first off... parking was difficult (!) if valet is avoided. There are spots nearby in the residential area, but you'll need to walk a long block away for free parking in the evenings. All of the staff members were pleasant to interact with, and the interior decor was nice to experience. My favorite part was the angled mirrors; even for those sitting facing the wall, seeing behind was easy - no sneaking up! It also gave the illusion that the space was bigger. Lighting was on the dimmer end, giving a more intimate experience with food. We started off with Little Gems, a salad with yuzu and ginger dressing that was impressive. It reminded me of a tangy salad, but it was much more interesting with yuzu. We later moved onto the Yellowtail Serrano - yum! That serrano definitely left a kick! Their Miso Eggplant was up next - also tasty, though the thick sauce was a tad too sweet, almost like a syrup. We next had a spicy tuna crispy rice; the crispy rice was had a thick, sweet fried layer, and the rice was also fairly sticky. I think this was a good take on a new creation, but it wasn't for me. The sushi was just okay. Flipping through Yelp pictures, Lobster Noodles caught my eye; we ordered that, and it was tasty. The lobster tail had no meat, but rather it was cut and mixed into the noodles. The tail also had little meat and was a tad bitter.:/ Though we were stuffed, we tried their butter cake for dessert. I've been meaning to try this place for so long after a good recommendation from a friend. Finally go to try it out on a date night last week and was so satisfied. Highly recommend making reservations because otherwise you'll get sat in the very loud main room. I got us a table using my Amex Resy benefit and got sat in the quieter back room near the kitchen. Otherwise, it's way too loud to hear each other speak. Recommendations: As somebody who isn't a fan of Brussels sprouts, believe me when I say these crispy Brussels sprouts will change your mind. They're SO good, they taste like savory chips. Not overly truffley like many restaurants tend to do. If the special is still available, please do yourself a favor and order the Snapper Tostada. They're so perfectly created, no notes. Every bite is perfectly balanced, wouldn't change a thing. Only comes with two tostadas, so if your party is larger, order more. Everything else was good but not so incredible to write home about. Ingredients do taste very fresh and well made however some things are a bit off. Snapper carpaccio needs maybe an oil or a slightest bit of sauce something. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice isn't crispy enough. Yuzu Kosho roll tastes more of avocado than it does of yellowtail. For the price, I'd probably just get sushi rolls elsewhere. Skip the fried rice. Great portion sizes for every item. Service was incredible (without the service, I'd give the place 3 stars), I never once had to ask for a water refill. They cleaned up so quickly after every dish. Came to Taisho on a whim. There's really only street parking so make sure to leave time to find a spot. The inside was VERY lively and it was a little difficult to hear. Prices were quite high for what you get, but food was overall solid. Highlights: Crispy Brussel Sprouts (5/5) - LOVE how light, salty and crispy this appetizer was. It's basically brussel sprout chips or kale chips. 100% recommend. Spicy Kurobuta Fried Rice (4/5) - great dish, the pork belly was soft and the rice was tasty. Overall it was a little heavy with the thick sauce, i wish there was more spice or crisp veggies in the rice Butter Cake (4/5) - YUMMM so rich and a great way to end the meal. this is a review solely focused on the food. yikes i rarely give bad reviews but this has to be one of the worst eats by far in 2026. came here last week and wow what an absolutely beautiful interior and vibe and the service from the servers were amazing. I think this is a great place for drinks or a first date. however the food was extremely subpar and overpriced. the brussel sprouts were okay, but they were served leaf by leaf, which is fine, but the portion size was criminal. if i were to guess the dish was composed of maybe 5-7 brussel sprouts- it looks like there is more since they already ripped apart. the picture makes the plate look big but it was very small. flavor itself was fine and the leaves were cripsy but for $16... girl be fr. next the miso salmon carpaccio sashimi. flavor was fine and beautiful presentation but the fish was sliced paper thin- bruh it was literally see-through... when I put it in my mouth, the amount of fish was like having a piece of gum in there -- just this thin little nothing. i have have never seen such little fish served before, maybe like 2oz in total? probably the amount of fish in the entire dish for a single slice of sashimi at a regular sushi spot. $23 btw. avoid the lobster sushi roll at all costs. the flavor of the "miso hollandaise" was awful, so salty and covered my mouth in a greasy film. couldnt taste anything else in the roll, cant even tell you if there was lobster in there because the whole roll was drowned in sauce. it was like taking a shot, just tried to get everything down as quickly as possible. lastly the salmon truffle roll. this one was ok but it was similar to some of the supermarket sushi i have had. not japanese supermarket level like mitsiwa or tokyo central, we are taking like ralphs. not bad but not great. maybe it was the cut of the salmon, but i found it slightly rubbery? this place has potential but every dish feels like an aggressive push to stretch every ingredient as thin as possible -- sometimes literally, like that salmon. I get it -- this is meant to be an upscale tapas spot, and I have no problem paying more for quality food. But high prices need to be backed up by the food, and this just didn't deliver. Small portions are one thing, but when the flavors aren't there either, it's hard to justify. Came here for a date night on a Monday evening - it wasn't too crowded and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted to sit "outside" in the back where it was cutely decorated with greenery and had a cozy vibe. We ordered edamame and crispy brussels sprouts for appetizers. The crispy rice wasn't my favorite part... it had a stale hash brown kind of texture. I would've appreciated a crisper outside and softer inside. I've been a long time customer of Taisho but I had to finally come leave a review after our last visit. I went on a Friday night to enjoy the dine LA menu. The food was wonderful as per usual. Love the short ribs which we added on separately. The food was so good I didn't get many pictures. The popcorn tempura shrimp can't be beat. The robata yaki seabass and beef were also delicious!! The dine LA menu is one of the best values of the whole list. We also love their cocktails. The yuzu margarita and lychee martini will never fail to put a smile on my face. I had to come leave this review because of the wonderful service we got from David. I hope I got his name right. David was super accommodating, answered all my questions, and kept the drinks and food flowing perfectly. While parking is valet or street parking (the only downside), you are almost always guaranteed a celebrity spotting here. I fangirled oven Leon Thomas eating dinner near us. Now the fish was outstanding - & again... BEAUTIFULLY PLATED. The Salmon Dry Miso carpaccio and surprise raw fish dish we got (with the blue flower) did not disappoint. I was expecting more from their food but there were a few misses including the Brussel sprouts appetizer and spicy tuna crispy rice. Taisho came up when I was searching for a highly rated sushi spot in the Sherman Oaks/Studio City area that I hadn't tried before. As soon as I looked it up, I was sold--the story, the menu, and the location all clicked. I made reservations for that night. The menu is designed for sharing, which makes it easy (and tempting) to try a lot of dishes. That said, it was still hard to narrow things down. It's rare to come across a menu where you'd be happy ordering almost anything, but Taisho is that kind of place. We ordered a lot: crispy Brussels sprouts, salmon dry miso sashimi, tuna avocado sashimi, tofu toban-yaki, wagyu gyoza, robata-yaki (street corn, bacon & asparagus, seabass, shrimp & bacon), truffle avocado crispy rice, the chef's choice sushi, lobster roll, butter cake, and mochi. I usually take photos, but the small plates were coming out so quickly I couldn't keep up. First and foremost, the food was excellent. Even if you're not a Brussels sprouts person, order them--you might convert. That said, it was a lot of food. We were told it was a good amount for three people, and while that may be technically true, we all went home with enough leftovers for another full meal. Service was mostly very good. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, though she didn't check in very often and we found ourselves waiting at times. The food runner, however, was fantastic--fun presentations and very attentive about clearing plates, which really matters when dishes are constantly rotating. I liked the ambiance. It wasn't overly loud, which made conversation easy. The one drawback is how tight the seating is--tables are very close together, and it's awkward for people to get in and out when chairs are back-to-back. The location itself is convenient, and valet on Ventura Blvd was easy. One thing to note: it was pricier than I expected. The bill came out to around $500 for three people (we each had a cocktail), plus $14 for valet. Was it worth it? Yes--but for a special occasion. They were offering a DineLA Restaurant Week menu for $65pp, served family-style, and we decided to go with that option. The Brussels sprouts were indeed crispy and seasoned well, where you could really taste the truffle oil come through. I also loved that they pulled the leaves off to make them sort of "chips" instead of whole or halved Brussels sprouts. That way, you get that crisp experience all the way through and not just on the outside. The Tuna Avocado Sashimi was delicious, as was the Crispy Chicken. On a most spirited Friday evening, I arrived at this establishment with neither reservation nor shame and yet, as if guided by fate itself, I was seated with astonishing immediacy despite the place being positively brimming with patrons. A most auspicious omen. My date, displaying impeccable judgment, procured a lychee martini an elixir so dangerously delightful it bordered on sorcery. Sweet, elegant, and altogether enchanting. We began with the Brussels sprouts, and I shall speak without restraint: good heavens. These were not mere sprouts they were a revelation. A culinary awakening. I daresay they may be the finest Brussels sprouts to have ever graced my mortal existence. At the urging of our esteemed waiter for the evening, Dominic a man of refined taste, noble spirit, and, if I may be so bold, a certified chiller of the highest caliber we indulged in the avocado truffle crispy rice and the salmon truffle roll. Both were nothing short of magnificent. Dominic himself deserves the highest commendation: a gentleman, a scholar, and a purveyor of impeccable recommendations. I trust he continues to prosper. Now, I must address the unseen maestro presiding over the music for whoever commanded the aux that evening was operating at an elite, almost dangerous level. At several moments, I felt as though I had been transported to a most distinguished clurb akin to Bar Lis surrounded by my closest compatriots, as anthemic remixes thundered through the air. I very nearly began moving in ways unbecoming of a man of my stature. Though we had reached the brink of absolute fullness, perhaps even folly, we made the fateful decision to order the butter cake. A reckless act yet one richly rewarded. Warm, decadent, indulgently gooey, with notes of strawberry and crowned by a most luxurious scoop of ice cream it was, quite simply, divine. A dessert that whispers, "you will regret this," yet leaves you eternally grateful that you did not listen. Well done, Taisho. You have outdone yourselves. This is one of my go-to sushi spots, and a big reason is their happy hour. Hands down the best I've ever seen. Happy hour runs every single day from 5-6 PM, and on Tuesdays it's all day, which is such a rare find. The value and selection are incredible. The service is always excellent! Friendly, attentive, and efficient and the food comes out quickly every time. I also love that I never have a hard time getting a table or reservation, especially if I arrive closer to 5 PM. It's consistently easy and stress-free. The ambience is super cute and lively, and it works for so many occasions. It's great for watching sporting events or anything on TV since there are TVs around the bar, but they also have comfortable sit-down tables if you're there just to eat and relax. One important tip: happy hour is only available if you sit at the bar or a high-top table. Sometimes they don't mention this upfront, so make sure to ask when you arrive. As for the food, everything is consistently great. My must-orders are the salmon truffle roll, the spicy tuna crispy rice, and the brussel sprouts, which are absolutely amazing and probably my favorite item on the menu. What a great first impression Taisho had on me! I have been waiting to try this place and it did not disappoint at all! We arrived right when they opened. Manager Tom was kind to seat us and go over the menu with us. We were even treated to a first timer sake! The food was amazing. We enjoyed: - salmon truffle roll - yellowtail Serrano - skewers (must try the pork belly!!) - shishito peppers -crispy spicy tuna The drinks were delicious as well. Came for a birthday last Saturday and had a great time. The modern interior is beautiful and loved the layout with patio seating. For rolls, we ordered the Salmon Truffle Roll, Yuzu Kosho Roll, and the Albacore Onion Roll, which were all beautifully presented and tasty. I'd give all the rolls a 4/5. The Crispy Chicken, Salmon Dry Miso, and Sea Bream Sashimi were my favorites and would definitely order again. The chicken was perfectly fried and super juicy - I loved the cilantro aioli the chicken came with! We also tried the Spicy Kurobata Fried Rice and Short Rib, but I wouldn't recommend and would pass next time. The fried rice was nothing special and the Short Rib was disappointing - it was very tough and difficult to eat. Overall, I'd say the food was 3 stars given the price. However, service and ambience were excellent, so plus one star. Our waitress was very sweet and brought out the most delicious strawberry butter cake topped with vanilla ice cream (with a fun sparkler) for our birthday girl! read more

Went here last night for a date night and it was pretty busy and loud from some large parties inside. We had made a reservation and opted to sit outside. The outdoor seating was towards the front of the restaurant and had a nice ambience, although it was close to the street and some smokers. The service was great and everyone we interacted with at the restaurant was very friendly. This is what we ordered: Yuzu margarita - very yuzu forward, not too sweet Tokyo old fashioned - smooth with a fruity undertone Spicy tuna crispy rice - tuna had a nice spice level and rice was a bit thick (a little hard to eat) but definitely crispy Salmon dry miso - refreshing, yuzu forward, not much miso flavor Sea bass robata-yaki - nicely charred, smoky flavor, tender fish skewer Chef's choice sushi (5 pc) - 5 nigiri pieces (not exactly sure what they were) that were all fresh and delicious Salmon truffle roll - not much truffle flavor, and lacking flavor overall Spicy albacore roll - spicy but lacking flavor overall Overall, the sushi was fresh but it was lacking flavor for the most part. Everything was either tangy from yuzu or spicy. And I love the flavor of yuzu, but I guess I was just left wanting more complexity. Maybe we didn't order their best items, or we are just pickier with our sushi? Maybe you just have to try it yourself to see what you think. I really wanted to love Taisho, especially since it's so much closer to me than other sushi spots but I think it just missed the mark for me unfortunately. read more

Beautiful place, lots of beautiful people and great atmosphere. The staff was professional and really friendly. Our server David was a very cool guy, friendly and helpful in making our selections. Food was a little pricy but very delicious. We had two different kinds of yellowtail sashimi and both were excellent. We also had a yellowtail roll that was light and tasty. Perfect for my first date with a wonderful woman. Tom the manager came and greeted us and our evening was memorable. read more

Absolutely wonderful service and delicious food! Came here on NYE for an early dinner. It was all decorated very nicely and seemed they'd be having quite the party later on that night. We sat at the bar where Jackie helped us. She was so down to earth and friendly; and makes really good drinks too! We ordered yuzu margs and they were refreshing, tangy and not artificial at all which is always always a plus. They have happy hour, literally one hour lol 5-6pm and we took advantage of their great deals to try a little bit of everything. Their yellowtail sashimi in the ponzu is so phenomenal in quality; literally melts in your mouth. We got two orders because it was just that good. The wagyu dumplings were crispy and robust in flavor. We tried both the spicy tuna crispy rice as well as the salmon crispy rice, generous servings of fish on both dishes, good flavor but pretty standard honestly. To try some robata we did the chicken wings, pork belly and chicken meatballs. The wings were juicy, the meatballs were nicely seasoned and the pork belly was the star! To round off our meal we also tried the salmon truffle roll and shishito peppers both of which were also very yummy. Overall the kitchen could do no wrong! Went to dinner this week at Taisho on a Friday night. I didn't know what to expect because I had never heard of the restaurant. The vibes of the restaurant were fantastic. It was a well laid out place that was much bigger than how it appeared from the outside. The service was very good also. It seemed as if there was always someone around to remove dishes from your table as soon as it was needed. 4 stars for the vibes. 4.5 stars for the service. Now why 3 stars for my review? Well that's because the food was just meh. We tried a good amount of dishes and I must say there was not one thing that truly blew us away. There were no amazing flavors beyond what you get at any sushi restaurant. Which was disappointing because it is not inexpensive. I am not saying the food was bad. But it seemed like a lot of the dishes had the same type of sauce on them. We tried the green beans, the yellowtail (probably the best dish), the ribeye wrapped asparagus which honestly was about as flavorless as you can get. Perfectly cooked and tender but lacked flavor on many levels. The lobster noodles, the gyoza, the black snapper, again all lacking punch. The egg plant and the popcorn shrimp both of which seemed to have the same sauce and for the popcorn shrimp to be a very popular item it was as standard as popcorn shrimp can be. We also had the albacore onion roll that needed the side of eel sauce. Their cocktails I will say were very good. But the food lacked creativity beyond the price tag.
