This was my first time at Tipsy Cow, and I have mixed emotions. The atmosphere is casual and festive, with TV's playing sports and a varied crowd that includes daters, older couples, families and singles making the most of their weekend. There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Haven't been here in awhile since we moved out of area but whenever we are in valley we stop by. Absolutely love this place!! poutin fries are my go to every single time!! The other items we have tried are pretty good and milkshakes are amazing. It is pricey but expected for where you are. We came here with a group of 6 for some drinks and bites. We had called in the day before to make reservations, however it was pretty wide open when we arrived at 5pm on a Saturday. LOCATION: Located on Ventura, right at the corner of Lemona. There is neighborhood and street parking nearby, and also a lot in the back with some specifically designated spots. Make sure to read the signs, as there are some spots reserved for other businesses as well. There are entrances both in front and in the back. INSIDE: The inside is relatively small, with a bar area and maybe a dozen or so tables, including one long table in the middle of the room. The seating around the perimeter of the room has a booth and chairs, whereas the large center table uses stools. It was still festively decorated for the holidays, as we went just a few days after Christmas. There are TVs behind the bar and all around the room showing (mostly) sports. The vibe definitely felt like that of a nicer sports bar given that the sound of the game seemed to exceed that of a standard restaurant showing sports. It's also dog friendly! We saw several super cute dogs, and it was apparent that there are some locals who come in and know the staff, and the staff know the dogs. ORDERING: They do not offer table service, this is an order-at-the-counter type of place. After placing your order, they give you a number and bring your food / drinks out when they're ready. We came with a group of friends, so this actually worked out in our favor. Everyone was able to order and pay on their own without having to deal with splitting checks and all that. There is the ability to leave a tab open if you plan to order in waves or have more than one drink. DRINKS: This place has all the options you'd expect to find at a bar, including beer (draft, bottle, cans), wine, and cocktails. There are 13 different cocktail options on the menu, most of which sounded pretty tasty. They are reasonably priced ($14), and I like that they are all one price. They have around 16 beers listed on draft, and 10+ cans / bottles, which include options like Golden State Cider, White Claw, Sun Cruiser, and even a couple NA options. For wine, they have a couple whites, a rose, prosecco, and 4 reds to choose from. We ordered mostly cocktails, including the Basil & Bubbles, Angry Ginger, Cucumber Gin Spritz, and a margarita. We really enjoyed all the drinks, and the Basil & Bubbles was definitely a favorite... so much so that I got a second. There are different size options for both the wine (6oz & 9oz) and the draft beers. FOOD: The menu is pretty solid for such a small spot. They have around a dozen-and-a-half options in their "Nibbles" section, which are essentially appetizers. These include some standard options (tacos, wings, spinach & artichoke dip, hummus, chicken fingers, fried pickles), and some more unique and elevated options (short rib poutine, truffle mac & cheese, deviled eggs, Bang Bang shrimp, ahi poke boats). There are 5 salad options, 7 burgers, and even a few choices for sliders. They have a "Moo-Less" section with a turkey burger, fish & chips, ahi banh mi, and a couple chicken sandwiches. You know this place is kid-friendly, since they even have a dedicated kid's menu with standard options such as chicken fingers, mac & cheese, and burger sliders. Don't forget about dessert! They have beignets and a soft baked cookie, as well as a whole dedicated shake menu with some next level sounding shakes. One of the people in our party ordered a shake, and it was epic. Huge, covered in whipped cream, and apparently very tasty. We ordered a few things amongst the group, including the short rib poutine, cheeseburger sliders, buffalo cauliflower, tacos, and ahi poke boats to name a few. HAPPY HOUR: They actually have a really good HH here. It's from 2p-6p, and 9p til close, every day... plus all day on Wednesdays! Select cocktails are $12 (-$2), all wine & frose is $12, well drinks are $8, and select beers are $6. There's also a list of 11 different options of food items you can get for $12, which includes a lot of bangers! OVERALL: This is definitely a cool spot. Fun place for a date night, to meet up with friends for a drink, watch a game, and grab some tasty grub. The Happy Hour is almost worth the trip alone, with some good deals and great options. It's also kid and pet friendly! I will say the one negative thing was that when I had got up to grab another drink, somebody had taken my plate away, which had the last couple bites of my short rib poutine that I was strategically saving for the end and very much looking forward to finishing... heartbreaking. What a mess. I haven't been here in years, and it used to be awesome. Not anymore. The only nice thing about this place was the service -- the person helping us was incredible. But everything else? Terrible. We ordered two Diet Cokes and got some weird flat drinks that tasted like extra-chlorinated tap water. Then came the chicken Caesar salads: wet lettuce, random ingredients that didn't belong, hamburger buns used as croutons, and ranch dressing instead of Caesar (and not even good ranch). The chicken... I don't even have words. It looked fully cooked but was pink, with some strange white chalky stuff on it. I didn't dare touch it. What was that? Went on a work happy hour. Will say it was wonderful to meet need employees with the company. The place was small, but very nice. On a Main Street so parking can be difficult to find. My partner tried their tipsy mule or something similar to that name. It was delicious. I had a Paloma which depending on your server can make a heavy drink. Had a strawberry margarita and it was extremely refreshing with fresh strawberries purée in it. We have the tots, tacos and mozzarella stick. All fried foods are the best foods. Both indoor and outdoor patio seating. You order at the bar and find a seat. Open seating when we visited. Selections of drink were good and some happy hour specials for certain drinks. They're known for their smashed burgers which we had as well as the fired pickles. Both were also on the happy hour specials. Food didn't take long to arrive. Haven't had fried pickles in a long time and it was quite nice with the ranch dips. Thin sliced pickles, battered perfectly and deep fried. Can't go wrong with that. And the smashed burgers which were perfectly cooked. Very juicy with melted cheese, grilled onions and pickle slices. As well as the sauce which I believe was thousand island. And a side of fries which was separate order. Food was good even though we only popped in for a beer to cool off. But with the happy hour specials, couldn't say no to some bites. Service was good. When I went up to order a drink, there was a staff member that was just starting her shift-Sunday 7/20/26 around 1200 noon. Nobody comes to greet you, you must go up to the register to order. I ordered the jalapeno margarita, and unfortunately I was not impressed by the margarita. When my friend arrived he ordered the Vanilla Bean Lemonade and he said he didn't like it. He also ordered the Chicken strips. It took over an hour for his Chicken Strips to be delivered to the table, I tried a piece and they were cold which was quite disappointing. I came here on a Saturday with 2 friends. You order at the counter, then you're given a number and you choose your own seat. It wasn't super crowded so we were able to find a table very easily! I also ordered a side of their brussel sprout slaw. The smashburger was AMAZINGGGG, so so delicious, immediately satisfied my craving. The brussel sprout slaw was super refreshing for this meal. The slaw had like a flavor zing and ~zest~ to it and it was super big! 2 people can definitely share that side. If you have a nut allergy beware! The slaw had nuts and I didn't know that until it arrived at my table - luckily it was a thin layer just on the top so I was able to pick them all off no problem. The happy hour signs all over the bar clearly listed the burger at $10, yet we were charged $12 for some reason with no explanation. On top of that, they tack on a 3% "service fee" before sales tax, then charge sales tax on the inflated amount. Apparently ordering at the bar yourself now comes with a service fee too. The food didn't help matters either. The wings were barely edible. Between the misleading pricing, junk fees, and terrible food, this place made sure I won't be returning. I've been here a few times and it's usually quite nice, overpriced food and drink, but it's generally a chill environment. Staff are generally inattentive but I know they have a lot going on so I don't blame them. Today I decided to take advantage of the laid back attitude of the place and do some writing there. I asked if I could plug my laptop in somewhere, a kind member of staff showed me where the best spot would be. And it happened to be near the entrance - all he asked was I warn people of the cable. Super reasonable as the last thing I wanted was people tripping / to be in the way. I was so grateful to him for accommodating me. As he asked, I warned everyone who came by of the cord. I was having a nice time until a different worker with a very blaming, rude tone, scolded me for having my laptop plugged in there. I told him I was sorry but it was not my idea to plug it in there but another member of staff. He said "well he shouldn't have told you that." Still with a rude tone. No apology for the miscommunication. No solution. No kindly asking me to move it. Not so much as a fake customer service voice. I would've been fine if they had said "sorry we don't have anywhere to plug that in." But my situation left me feeling like I had been entrapped into a rude interaction. I don't think I was in the wrong for plugging my laptop in where the staff had directed me to - but even if I was, it could've been handled with much more grace. I work in service, I've worked in bars, I know how much it sucks sometimes but it's the job to make people feel welcome. I never write reviews but this left such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to say something. There are much nicer places in the area, with staff who aren't so miserable.
