I've been to the Dallas Morning News building on Commerce Street (for work) many times and somehow have never made it to Overeasy until today. It's about what you'd expect of a breakfast/lunch spot located in the lobby of a nice hotel like the Statler -- good food and good service at a reasonable (but slightly higher) price point. The Brisket Hash was excellent (unfortunately I did not get a picture of it) as was the service. I don't think I ever had to ask for a refill on my coffee or water, which I never mind doing, but it sure is nice when your glass is always full. The ambiance was great, too. It's a wide open space, with lots of natural light, so it's a great spot for business breakfasts/lunches (which is what I was there for), but it'd also be a nice place to catch up with friends or grind out some work solo. All in all, it's a place I enjoyed, and wouldn't mind going back to, but not a place I'm necessarily dying to go back to either. read more

We decided to stop by since this spot was right across from our hotel. The space itself is bright and inviting, with a nice open-concept kitchen. The staff were welcoming and friendly, especially the manager who greeted us and made us feel right at home. Our server was also so sweet and attentive. Coffee was strong. I wasn't quite sure what to order, but I went with the Eggs Benedict. It turned out to be a twist on the classic -- more like an open-faced biscuit sandwich topped with creamy pepper gravy. So not exactly what I expected. Unfortunately, the hash browns missed the mark -- they were dry, burnt, and a bit bitter -- and my biscuit was also burnt. Trying to find something positive ...the eggs were cooked well (over medium, just right). Unfortunately, that's about where it ended. The hash browns were slightly burned on the outside but undercooked inside, the sausage was overly salty AND so were most of the attitudes. The pancakes were hard on one side and soggy on the other. From the moment I walked in, the vibe wasn't welcoming. Even when I asked what seemed like a simple question -- whether to pay my server or up front -- the response from who appeared to be a manager was curt and just not pleasant. . To top it off, when I paid, my server forgot to bring back my credit card and returned with a dismissive "oh, left it in the other machine." Hi everyone. Happy long weekend. I needn't remind anyone I'm retired, so life's a long weekend. It was raining, it was pouring, this old man finished snoring. Looked up best brunch spots in the D. Overeasy was in there like swimwear. It was a very nice restaurant in a nice hotel. I dug everything about it. The service was spot on. Great coffee and they leave the pot on the table. No waiting for refills, just go for it. My eggs came out a perfect over medium. Yolks buttery, creamy, dreamy. Whites done. The pork sausage link didn't have a cellulose skin. Nice. Redskin homefries with sweet red peppers, caramelized yellow onions, sweet, savory seasonings such that ketchup would have been an insult. Nice comfy booth with elbow and stretchy pant room. Portion size was just right as well. I could have stayed there for days. Will definitely be back next weekend. Wait... it's always the weekend . Take care of yourselves. Yes, life is tough. This little restaurant was in our hotel so we decided to do breakfast there. It's a small cozy cafe. My wife got the omelet, with ham and cheese. It came with fried breakfast potatoes and whole grain toast. I wasn't very hungry so I just ordered a single pancake. My wife's meal was absolutely amazing. Everything was on point and so much food we could have shared. My pancake looked good but the batter tasted sweet and it had powdered sugar on it. We were excited to try Overeasy during our stay at The Statler, but the service was very disappointing. After being seated, we waited 15 minutes and were never acknowledged by a server. When I went to the hostess stand to ask for help, I was met with attitude as if asking for basic service was too much. At that point, we decided to leave and have breakfast elsewhere. This place was seated at the base of the base of a hotel and had plenty of seating inside (although of course it was busy during breakfast hours). I ordered an easy Living Breakfast; this is a pretty standard breakfast plate (Eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes). I was looking forward a hearty typical diner style meal that morning and succeeded. I ate at the bar and was served in a reasonable time, but notably the service was stretched in the restaurant. I likely wouldn't have noted this, but what was very apparent is that the gentleman that appeared to be the manager at this time was especially rude to his own staff, right in the diner floor. He berated at least 2 employees while I was at breakfast for pacing. While I think it is necessary to expect good performance from employees - there is a right and wrong way to do this (not to mention place - NOT IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS). Went on a Tuesday for my birthday so there wasn't a whole lot of people there (no wait). Walked in and was seated immediately which was great. We got our drinks (I got a mimosa and my friend got a mocktail), then received our food. Met a friend here for brunch on a Sunday morning. I was happy that we were able to get a table for two right away. The service wasn't the greatest. Our server forgot to bring my friend's coffee cup and took a very long time to flag down to get it corrected or our bill, but we both ordered the salmon lox plate which was pretty tasty. They leave a pot of coffee at your table so you don't have to wait for refills. I'd go back to try it again the next time I'm in the downtown Dallas area. read more

Do yourself a favor and make reservations. This is a great breakfast spot, but prepare to expect an extensive wait, however you can always order an Irish coffee to sip on while you wait for a table. Hell, why not make an experience out of your visit? But do yourself a favor and don't expect to be called to pick up your coffee when its ready, they seem to prefer to let the customer figure that out on their own. The breakfast tacos are excellent and very filling, the salsa on the side is a nice touch. Fresh fruit is definitely fresh and if you're looking for pulp free OJ, they only serve freshly squeezed, so no pulp free OJ. I love the menu and the fact they also have outdoor seating. Here's the updated review: I recently visited Overeasy and was disappointed with the lack of accommodation from the host, Vince. Upon arriving, I politely requested a booth for my guest and me. Instead of checking availability or offering an alternative, Vince simply responded with a curt "no." I understand if booths weren't available, but the dismissive tone and lack of effort to assist left a poor impression. Good customer service is essential to a positive dining experience, and unfortunately, this interaction fell short. Whatever they did they need to change it back!!! The pancakes are horrible, they changed the recipe. The syrup was switched out for some cheap brand that taste of high fructose corn syrup. The pancakes used to be thin and were like CRACK!! You had to come back for more. Now they are like fat, dry pieces of sponge. The bacon is pre soaked in oil from a lot of other bacon. Naw Naw Naw. Overall not bad. I visited on a Sunday for brunch and it was about a 20min wait or so. The parking is on the street and metered. There is valet parking at the hotel that it is connected too. While waiting you can purchase a cup a coffee and sit either inside the restaurant on in the hotel lobby and wait. It does make the time go faster. Overall the customer services was okay not the greatest just okay. The food was pretty good. I had the pancakes and they are thick. It comes with 3 and two people can eat on the 3. We did have a mimosa and it was pretty good. Overall good experience and would recommend. I will visit again. Now for eye candy. I think Overeasy is a good place to have breakfast. Nestled in the middle of Downtown Dallas, it's overly easy "no pun intended" to pop inside for a quick bite. I usually park across the street at the park. The food is good and if you're coming in to do some work I think it's a great place for that as well. I went for a straightforward eggs, sausage and potatoes, with toast to kick off my morning and it was plentifully enough to get me going. Hostess seemed very uninterested for some reason. Service was pretty fast and good. Their coffee was alright for both me and my husband. I ordered chicken tenders biscuit and gravy. Chicken was over cooked and burned, it tasted bitter. Biscuits were soaked in fat, you can tell from the pictures. I couldn't eat anything for more than a bite or 2. Gravy was good but I wasn't going to eat gravy alone. Breakfast potatoes were bad. They looked and tasted stale. Pancakes were ok. I highly recommend checking out other good breakfast places. I was going to give it a 1 star review but since I had such a great experience last time I'm going to do 2. To start, I chose this place because it's my birthday and last time was great. It all starts with me asking for a booth- the hostess refused. She then sat me at an uncomfortable tiny table and I decided to ask the manager if it would be a big deal to seat me in the booth. She was absolutely fine with it. I thought we'd move forward- but no. The gal decided to glare and not bring me lemons. They then didn't bring me my margarita until the manager checked on me I asked her if she could bring me my drink that had been sitting. Last time the fruit was so ripe and fresh- I was looking forward to it- not this time. If I could go back right now, I would. Overeasy was cozy, modern, and overall had a nice calming breakfast vibe. If you come by yourself or another person you may get seated at the long table where you are elbow to elbow with other guests. This didn't really bother me, but unless you are a booth only type person then keep this in mind. It was a Sunday morning so there was about a 15 minute wait, but the host seated people pretty quick. We didn't order anything out of the ordinary, just your typical breakfast food. I regret now not ordering more, especially something sweet. I guess there is always next time. Ok so really not sure why this breakfast spot is rated the way it is. I just had a mushroom, onion, pepper, and tomato omelette with a side of turkey sausage. Potatoes were crisp and fluffy and the ingredients were outrageously fresh. Tomatoes I think were baby tomatoes off the vine juicy and packed with the flavor.
