Brought to you by the brother and sister (chef and owners) of the only Michelin star restaurant in Long Beach, Olive & Rose is a neo-bistro located in the remodeled City Center Motel on the eastern edge of DTLB. This meant that is within walking distance of our home, so my wife and I spent a leisurely walk to dine there for an early Friday dinner. It was a fine dining experience, with excellent service, and a focused menu that encourages a tasting menu experience. I noticed that Olive & Rose was a restaurant on the Citi card dining offer board, offering 5% back on purchases. It's uncommon to find a fine dining local restaurant that I've been wanting to go to with a 'coupon', so booked a reservation on OpenTable for a 5:15 pm seating. The restaurant is also part of the 'Rewards Network' of restaurants, getting rewards depending on which front end rewards program one uses (e.g. Bilt, Marriott, Delta Airlines). Arrived before opening time (5 pm), but were let into the indoor dining area and allowed to wait in the pool area. We were seated early as soon as the restaurant opened, with a tap water bottle with glasses brought. The outdoor seating is in the center pool area, with certain tables dedicated to the restaurant. Heating lamps and sun umbrellas were there in case of need. The area was being used by hotel guests, but unlike most 'hotel' restaurants, the dining patrons were not hotel guests. We were greeted by Lexi, our primary server, and she confirmed that it's a seasonal menu, with it recently being changed for the spring. There is also a "carry-out" menu available in a walk-up window: pretty much exactly the same as the dine-in menu except with the inclusion of a burger frites "off-menu' item for $25. There is a mixologist here, and the cocktail list definitely showed that. My wife chose 'Pretty in Pink' ($18): vodka, coffee, cacao, strawberry. I couldn't taste coffee after the first sip, but my wife encouraged me to take one more...it was after the second, that I tasted it...magical. All beers are bottles (no draft available), so skipped. Bread & Cultured Butter ($10) - 4 thickly sliced sour dough from Hey Brother Baker. really good. Braised Octopus ($29) - 3 tentacle pieces, beautifully presented curled and braised, with baby potatoes and white beans. Rib Eye ($55) - slow cooked ribeye served medium rare, served more like a filet. I love snap peas, and here it was served with lightly tossed greens and shelled garden peas. Service was superb throughout the whole dinner, with every person we interacted with, being welcoming and genuinely looking to answer questions and gather feedback. The outdoor space was large, with tables spaced far enough apart. The vibe was easy and relaxed, matching the pool setting and everyone dressing as they wished, and no-one looking harried...definitely Cali Casual. More easy-to-prepare food (bar or fast) would have been perfectly acceptable in this setting as well. So to confirm, the plating is the size of a typical entree as part of a tasting menu...so running small. Most likely one will leave a bit hungry if they came in famished. But I believe worth it if any of the dishes (or cocktails) appeal to you. So why not drop into the many nearby restaurants serving bigger portions but certainly more common dishes for a later meal?

The food was delicious, however, the portion sizes were laughably small for the price. We started with the Olives, which were served warm and tasted amazing. Next was the Crudité, which had a lovely presentation, however, at approximately $2 per vegetable type on the plate, the necessity of cutting one small radish in half for two people to share seemed ridiculous. Fortunately, there were two asparagus tips, so we both had our own. Amazing food, beautifully presented, however, if you arrive hungry, expect to drop some dough, or you might do as we did and find a different restaurant with more substantial offerings.

Service really depends on the day and the server. Sometimes it's stellar, sometimes just average. That said, the cocktails are always super delicious. Same goes for the food, which is seasoned to perfection. The decor and vibes are so cute! Only real downside (aside from the inconsistency in service) is parking. It is DTLB, so we usually street park a block or two away and walk. Overall, still a solid spot and one I enjoy coming back to.

Right in the middle of downtown, this charming bites and cocktails spot offers a romantic restaurant setting ready for reservations, a counter space to watch the masters at work, or a outdoor pool area that offers a more casual vibe but still with upscale food and drinks. The outdoor area is definitely more inviting on summer evenings because it can get chilly but really makes you feel like your at a boutique hotel in the middle of Palm Springs. We ordered at the counter and they were super helpful with what dishes to order and what drinks might be more to my liking. Definitely excited to go back.

Olive & Rose - 9/10 Aesthetic & Ambiance: 8.5/10 - Chic 1950's style-hotel with an amazing restaurant built in. There is limited seating so make sure to make a ressy beforehand, and the Ambiance is more chill and quiet with date nights and older crowd. Service: 9/10 - Service was quick and the courses were spaced out perfectly. The server had a great sense of humor too lol. Been here a few times and it's always good. DRINKS Pretty & Basic: 8.5/10 - Delicious drink with a range of fruit flavors with the elderflower, watermelon and lychee it was delicious! Just a warning, the garnish is pickled! FOOD Three Cheeses: 8.5/10 - The cheeses were great, they change from time to time, but the most notable one was a soft bleu cheese, while being a pungent it wasn't overpowering. Bread & Butter: 9/10 - Thick cuts of home made bread and delicious salted butter, also recommended to pair with the Salt Spring Mussels to it in. Salt Spring Mussels: 9/10 - Cleaned, flavorful and delicious. The kombu buerre blanc sauce was the outstanding! Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips: 10/10 - Best in-house chip I've ever had. I'm not a fan of salt & vinegar chips and I couldn't stop myself from trying to get more. Stake Tartare "Katsu" Sando: 8.5/10 - The bread was perfectly crispy and the tartare was delicious with the hits of sun-dried tomato aioli. Korobuta Pork Chop: 8.5/10 - Very tender pork with a slight crips of skin. The apple & fennel topper gave it a nice earthy sweet cut to balance with the brussle sprout bottom. Diver Scallops: 9/10 - Just as you'd want, juicy tender and soft center with a perfect pan-sear top and bottom. The celery root was subtle, and the gooseberry was a different taste but added to the flavor deliciously. Aged Rib Chop: 9.5/10 - A must get here, it was cooked perfectly, seasoned lightly, and tender as can be. Each piece was decadent butter melting with each bite. My review of this amazing spot is a bit overdue, so some of the items aren't available, as they change some things seasonally. That being said though, I had to make sure and still get my review on here. We were able to get a reservation on a weeknight a couple days in advance. I am glad we got one, as it did fill up and stay full. We were warmly welcomed and immediately transported to what felt like Palm Springs. We loved the ambiance. Our server was over to greet us quickly, and she was immediately helpful and patient. We never felt rushed through the whole meal, but always felt like we were checked on. We started with the bread, which I was hesitant about for the $9 price tag, but I will admit, it was delicious and would get it everytime. I can't even decide what my favorite of the other items were though. The steak tartare katsu sandwich was so unexpected, and I wish I could have had another order. The endive salad looks simple, but was so flavorful. The fish dish was cooked to perfection - moist and flaky. We each had a cocktail and a glass of wine. The wine selection is small, but thoughtful, and there are some unique options. The cocktail menu was creative and has a little something for everyone. I wish I could bring this spot to San Diego. We were just visiting Long Beach for a few days, and I was tempted to come back the next day because I wanted to try more menu items. It was that good! You can get top notch service and food at unpretentious prices. Don't hesitate to book your table!

the best fries outside of Belgium

I had the best comprehensive meal of my life at Olive & Rose. I've been to this place three times, but I feel like I've gotten acquainted enough with the menu to know exactly what to order. So, starting off with the cocktail program - it is EXCELLENT. If you're just looking to get drinks and some finger food, you can totally do that without a reservation, but you'll be sitting outside by the pool(which is a vibe in itself). We ordered the pear pressure and culture shock drink - which were extremely refreshing and so refined. The menu changes by season, but even within the season they make micro adjustments, so your experience may vary slightly from mine. We started off with heirloom roasted carrots over a yogurt spread, and it was a great starter. The amberjack crudo is something you cannot skip - I've had it in the past but this new version with the squash puree is divine. The beef tartare is a sleeper. It's so damn good, it doesn't even make sense. I prefer it to be served as a sando (as seen in my photo) but they have served it differently before where it's all on a plate and you scoop it up with chips. The sando just ensures the perfect bite. Next came the mushroom tortellini, and this surprised us a ton. The mushroom broth is some of the deepest and most flavorful vegetable broths we've ever had - and we couldn't stop drinking it. The tortellini itself was amazing, but the broth was such a surprise. Next came the kurobuta pork. It does NOT come with fries, that's only reserved for the aged rib cap with frites - but I asked for it on the side and they delivered. The steak frites is amazing (we've ordered it before) but the kurobuta pork did not disappoint, either. Both are hearty, tender, and so flavorful. I'm a huge fry lover and I gotta say, these are the best fries I've had outside of Belgium, the birthplace of the french fry. It has a refined crisp and an airy texture that most fries in America don't have. It's hard to explain, but this is how fries are supposed to be - alongside the aioli. To finish the meal, we had the fuyu persimmon tartine and it was a delight. It had a light crisp from the caramelization and it wasn't too sweet. Service was excellent, as usual - our server tended to every request or question we had. Our glasses were always full. On top of that, they actually remembered us from our last visit. There's validated parking, but we Ubered over so we can walk a few blocks down to Midnight Oil to end the night. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. It's such a cozy gem and each dish is on point. Bravo!

This review is for the pool party they host during the summer. In collaboration with Footwork Records, they created a fun vibe with house music, sun and splashes. $25 entry is quite steep though considering they don't even supply towels and the pool isn't that big. Their cocktails are disappointingly pre-mixed, which is a bit of a shocking move for Chef Philip Pretty and Lauren Michaelis. I tried the Pretty & Basic ($17), which was supposed to have vodka, watermelon and lychee. No hint of vodka and there were no fresh juices. It was mixed in clarified coconut milk and was extremely sweet. I switched to sparkling wine ($22) and after tax and tip, I paid $27 for the small glass. At least I got a buzz from it, as opposed to the pre-mixed cocktail. Kanpachi Tostada ($22)- it was fresh and carefully crafted with smashed avocado, parsley, dill, chili and salt, but it was quite small for the price. The bartender moved slowly, but the servers tending to folks at the pool hustled. Wish the event went passed 4pm too.

The dining room at Olive & Rose is giving Palm Springs and I'm absolutely here for it. I came for lunch on a Friday and the vibe was so chill. Honestly, it's the perfect place to ease into the weekend. We started with the olives, satsuma & fennel ($8). I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting, but the combination of the three ingredients came out in salad form. It was interesting both flavor and texture wise - bold, but subdued. Our big plates included the kanpachi tostada ($21) and the fried halibut sandwich ($20). While I do love kanpachi tostadas, I found the version here to have too much foliage. I just didn't think all that cilantro was necessary because there was a lot of it and it dominated each bite. That aside, the kanpachi was good! It had a little kick with the chili oil. My favorite thing I tried was the fried halibut sandwich. The halibut is flakey and is lightly battered. It has just the right amount of tartar sauce to get it going. This is a very good fish sandwich. Don't skip dessert. The toasted marshmallow ice cream was marshmallow-ing. Really fun stuff actually. I love seeing the evolution of the Long Beach food scene. Olive & Rose fits in nicely. I can't wait to return for dinner.

Great food. The foods were amazing. The diner vibe was nostalgic. The staff were attentive.

What an experience this was! The food and service were top tier! They didn't bring every item at once. They brought items that we ordered that paired together, waited until we were finished and brought the next items. The beef tartar was perfect, paired well with their house made potato chips! Amberjack Crudo was flavorful and practically melted in my mouth! Bread and cultured butter was warm, soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside! The aged rib cap was the star of the night! Tender, perfectly seasoned, a must try!! The desserts were phenomenal! We went a little wild and tried all of them! My favorite was definitely the key lime pie, and apple tarte!

Finally booked a reservation for dinner at Olive and Rose after trying their bagels in the morning. With it being the creative mind behind Heritage, I was anticipating a great time and it didn't disappoint. The ambiance is stellar especially at night. The glow of the table lamps, interior design, and view of the City Center hotel courtyard as the backdrop, is stunning. The interior of the restaurant itself is small, but cozy. If you don't have a reservation, you can also enjoy drinks and small bites in the courtyard. Upon entering, I was offered the choice of sitting at the chefs counter or table. While the chefs counter offers an intimate experience, I opted for a table as the lighting and table space was important for this visit. Gianna was the server for the night and she did a great job and had an inviting approach to service. To drink I tried the Pretty and Basic, and a couple of glasses of wine. The cocktail was on the sweeter side and had a prominent coconut flavor. Not my favorite, but I'm not the biggest coconut fan. The wines I tried were great though! I got to try a ton of the menu, starting with the mussels in a dashi broth, beef tartare, and endive salad. Mussels were on point with a clean, light, umami rich flavor profile. A side of bread is a must to soak up the broth. The tartare is light and was perfectly seasoned. Lots of texture from the green beans, cornichon, and seeds mixed in. Lastly, the endive was a surprise for me. I admittedly rarely eat a salad, so the fact that I finished it means it was good. This endive salad has dates, humboldt fog cheese, and the sweet dressing made it delicious. I tried their lobster dish and steak frites. This is a unique way to serve lobster as you get a generous portion of lobster knuckle meat in a cold salad served on bib lettuce. The whole lobster tail is served with salt baked potato and lobster bisque. I was obsessed with the fries that came with the steak. I could just eat several portions of the fries. They are super crunchy while being light and airy. Paired with the tender steak and umami rich au poivre sauce, it made for a satisfying conclusion to the savory side. For dessert, I had the apple tart tatin and mint straciatella with magic shell. The chocolate pour on the ice cream was satisfying and the flavor of mint chocolate was nostalgic. Apple tart tatin was flaky and not too sweet and had a whipped crème fraiche on the side. Enjoyed my time at Olive and Rose for dinner and would do it again. I'd recommend to those that enjoy clean simple flavors that highlight seasonal produce and quality ingredients. It's also a good option if you're not willing to do a full tasting menu at Heritage.

Olive & Rose has a beautiful vibey ambience with lots of windows and intimate seating. They also had great service and excellent recommendations for drinks and menu items. I went with my partner for our anniversary, and our server made our experience extra special! The type of food and flavor profile is very similar to Heritage, so if you're looking for the same type of meal, but without the big price tag of the prefix course menu, I would highly recommend checking out Olive and Rose. Food: The amberjack crudo was delicious, but I thought that a similar dish at heritage tasted better. The endive salad was very beautiful and had a lot of substance. I really enjoyed the fries in the steak frites, as they were perfectly crispy and went well with the jus from the steak! The chicken was also extremely juicy despite being chicken breast. Unfortunately, one of the dishes I was looking forward to the most, which was the apple pie, disappointed me. I've definitely had much better pastries, but I did enjoy that they had rosemary infused whipped cream, which was more special. I think this is a worthy spot to go to for special occasions as they have excellent service, vibes, and food.

Ask the Community - Olive & Rose

    Is dinner inside only?

If you have a reservation you will be seated inside. Walk ups (assuming no space inside) can dine outside. The outside menu is a little more casual than the inside. Make a reservation if you want to eat inside

Is the restaurant open at 12p on Wednesday like this page states? I have tried calling 5 times over 3 hours to amend a reservation and there has been no answer. The Civic Center does not offer a direct phone number either so what's the best contact?

    Are they serving alcohol yet?

No unfortunately not, but they have amazing NA cocktails and should have their liquor license soon.

    How is parking?

Expect to walk a few blocks. Street parking only in a predominately residential area. It took me 10 mins to find parking and walked three blocks.

And this one time I was there alone with another, no other patrons just staff members walking around from time to time. We stole the moment to dance under the Long Beach sky, just the two of us as a famous Christina Perrio song gently wafted in the night breeze. At another separate time, I was at the Los Angeles County Fair with another. We rode the ferris wheel at such a time where our gondola stopped at the top just as the sun set. The moment was nothing but beautiful and life affirming because the sinking of the sun's light was like a real life video of nature happening in front of us, unburdened by static or data stall. We witnessed nature resting, and I feel, that it was a kin to a beauty falling into a gentle sleep. These two instances have a common factor: momentary bliss arrived to bless an experience because the environment supported discovery of unplanned joy. That is what I associate with the Wicked Wolf, and this time the joy arrived eventually because when my Mom and I arrived to their high tea on Mother's Day the experienced seem like it would land nowhere good. Truth be told, my mom and I arrived 15 minutes early and there was no host in the stand and the place was empty except for a foursome. The energy felt lacked luster. One or two minutes after, the bartender informed us that we were early and the host would come soon. We sat in an available sofa for two, a loveseat persay. This gave us an opportunity to admire the decor that transported us to a storybook forest where good fairies reside, not like swamp creatures and trolls with malevolent fangs and dragon green eyes. I especially loved the large roses in the ceiling. To set the stage, the black ceiling had vines hanging from it, and the few roses were pops of crimson red displayed above. These were wonderful accents to the central mural of the joint that invited the viewer within deeper into the fairy forest where a light shone on an unseen meadow. The place had the decorations and general environment to be a lavender fairy's lounge, but, it did not fully work as a team room. For instance, my mom and I were sat in another lover's couch. Initially, I did not want to sit here because we were given circular tray sets. So imagine being told to sit in a couch, and each of us would get a tv tray. So I was left to wonder if we were going to be served tea in Belle's living room or if were going to watch a flick as we ate pollo loco bowl? But then as I settled into the tranquility of the moment, saw more people come and find their seat or couch, and as the serviced picked-up I realized that this was high tea in a place that had taken disjointed beauty and tackied it together for a patched tea experience that worked well. It was like the experienced was blessed and allowed by the same spirit that brought forth Raggedy Ann. For instance, the pictures show these pretty violet petaled tea cups and matching plates. This pairing was dainty and perfect for a tea party happening under pink veils. But then the sugar cubes came in a hedgehog shaped holder which was just as precious as seeing a piglet in a carriage built for one. Then the cream carrier was in the shape of a milk carton. I wondered where the missing child portrait was? The pastry plate was in the shape of a tropical flower like the ones scattered all over Hawaii. It belonged in a beautiful lei. Each of these elements was cute in its own delicate and whimsical way but together they made an eclectic hodgepodge, not a coherent tea set. And in this asymmetry laid the glitter of their error. The host also brought these clip on dainty hats that were perfect touches for make believe tea party. He carried them around in their original packing, including the box they came in. Not exactly the tailor of the queen, offering hats to the villagers as a gift from her to them, but still the effort magnified the moment. The tea food was the worst stumble that Red took as she was being chased by the Wicked Wolf. To begin with the end analysis, the tea offerings in general were standard, and not bites fit for a princess and her wedding court. For instance, the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich was just that---- a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. I detected no effort to make it more than that. The blueberry scone was solid, nothing to skip through a meadow about. But once you added the jam of the table to the scone it was much easier to enjoy. I also had a madeline that was fluffy in the center but could have been purchased maybe at Costco. I had a Macaron and same thing, delicious but I have had something similar before and I suspected that it did not come from a place afloat with Parisian affairs. The best part of the tiers was this puff like thing that had like a Concha texture and design at the top. It was a sweet filled bite that was fit for a man made of muffin.

I was really excited to visit this bar--I've always been a huge fan of fairy tales and thought the…read moretheme was such a fun concept for a bar. When we got there, I felt that the decorations and drinks felt a bit gimmicky, with random fairy tale-esque elements like a throne and massive red roses. I thought it would have been very cool to see Easter eggs and more intentionality bringing the atmosphere together. Since it was an hour before closing, we didn't plan to stay very long. The two people working at the bar were both unwelcoming and seemed upset that we were there (there were other people at the bar, including people who arrived later in the night than us). We paid for our drinks, which cost over $40 for 2 drinks with tip. My cocktail was $17 and came in a glass barely bigger than a shot glass. We left around the time they were calling for last call. I can understand not wanting stragglers who prevent the bartenders from closing late, but I would have much preferred being turned away at the door rather than paying and tipping for an overall unpleasant experience.

I was excited to see on the menu that they were serving Kinobi gin from Kyoto. I discovered this gin on a trip to Kyoto have since bought it regularly. To my surprise, when I saw the bartenders making the drinks they were using Gray Whale. Gray Whale is fine, but it's not in the same league at Kinobi. I realize Kinobi can be hard to find at times but If there's a substitution like that, the server should say something when you order the drink or if it's a recipe change, the menu should be updated. Speaking of service, that's what really brought me to write this re view. Before we even ordered we were told that we would only have 90 minutes. That honestly killed the vibe and made us feel rushed. Like the OpenTable confirmation even said we'd have two hours. And for tge rest of our time there our server pretty much ignored us. They forgot some of the food we ordered and shoved the check in our face when they wanted us to leave. I'm guessing they were stretched too thin? I think they need to hire another person to be a server or maybe get an extra bartender and have them wait on the people at the bar. At a bar like this service is everything. Being a Japanese themed bar you'd think they would try to copy the level of service you'd have in Japan. I just moved to the neighborhood and probably won't return after our experience.

This hidden gem lives inside the newly renovated Fairmont Breakers in Long Beach, and for all my Fairmont regulars: relax, you're in good hands, their world-renowned elegance remains intact. PARKING Valet is only $10, which in Southern California basically qualifies as a love language. (Note to Fairmont Breakers Management: Listen up, my friends! Please keep it that way, gas is $5.97/gallon and my wallet is already in therapy.) I handed the valet a $5 tip before I even stepped out of my car, just so I could glide into the lobby feeling like a full‑blown princess making her grand entrance. Before you leave, you simply pay the valet in cash or card and they'll have your car right there before you can even blink. AMBIANCE Walk in and boom! A towering, beautifully decorated Christmas tree greets you like it's auditioning for a holiday movie. Check out my photos; the whole lobby whispers one word: sophisticated. Oooh, I love that tree! Hang a right, stroll to the end of the hall, and you'll find ALTER EGO, a dark, cozy lounge that feels like the perfect hideaway for a date where you actually want to hear each other talk. Live music starts at 7 PM, the bar closes at 10, and honestly... that's ideal for those of us over 50 who consider 10 PM the witching hour for pajamas. Rob Fontana was performing tonight, and his music was so good I found myself time‑traveling back to the good old days. Every song hit, Rob. Good job! SERVICE Our server, Nia, was a star. Attentive, sharp memory, and smooth service all the way through. Zero notes. FOOD The menu is small, so if you show up ravenous, pace yourself or plan to Uber home after a cocktail‑heavy evening. I'm allergic to cheese, so I had to double‑check ingredients, but the Mushroom Flatbread was outstanding, flavor was superb and the best part was they did not skimp on the mushrooms! A+ for that. I also tried the Prosciutto di Parma with melon, which is a strange combo for a California girl... but hey, I never said I wasn't a weirdo. Drinks are not my thing since I enjoy company without alcohol's help, so I can't help you with that. DATE‑WORTHY OR NOT? Absolutely. Alter Ego gets a double thumbs‑up from me and a strong recommendation for your next Silver Singles date. It's easy to find, the seating is comfortable (even for those of us with backs that like to complain), and they even offer tube pillows for extra support. Tell me that's not romance.

Overall, I'm so glad this is the place we chose to meet at! On a Wednesday night we were able to walk in and had no trouble getting a table for 4. The aesthetic is the standout feature of the place. The main bar is beautifully decorated and there are spacious booths to eat at as well. My favorite part was the two additional "secret" bar areas! While sitting in the main bar area you would have no idea there are additional rooms. Exploring the other rooms was a fun, unique part of the visit. The drinks were photo worthy as well as tasted great. The bar tender was attentive and adjusted my drink based on how much sweetness I like. The lychee margarita was my favorite because they light it up table side for a fun presentation! The food tasted great and was very affordable priced! Our group ordered multiple items and shared them family style, which seems to be a common approach here. The shrimp fried rice was delicious and my favorite food item. One order was plenty to share between 4 people. Per our server's request, we also tried the cucumber salad which was really refreshing and a great side. I tried the popcorn chicken but honestly they packed a kick and were too spicy for me, so be warned. In sum, the service, food, drinks, and ambiance were great and I will definitely be back!

Service was decent, didn't get quite as much attention as I would have ordered more food had someone stopped by faster. It's a really small location so it's a little bizarre that service is a bit on the slow side. That said, everything else was fantastic so it's a small sin as such things go. Overwhelmingly recommend this place, just maybe order a lot up-front so you don't end up waiting around for more. It also has 2 speakeasys attached to the "main" restaraunt, but book early as those spots are even harder to get into.

False Advertising and Total Failure of a "Speakeasy"…read more This place should not call itself a speakeasy. According to their website, they are strict about dress code, reservations, and no large parties. None of that was enforced. People arrived wearing sports clothes, tennis shoes, and flip-flops, and a group of more than 10 people was allowed in. That group was loud, drunk, and screaming, completely destroying any speakeasy ambiance. We had a reservation booked one week in advance for 2 tables of six, yet by 8:30 pm, we were told no food was available, despite the bar being almost empty. The water was already on the table when we arrived and tasted strongly of chlorine, with no ice. The waitress was clearly new, untrained, and unprepared. She did not know the menu, didn't know how to take an order properly, and provided no guidance whatsoever. There was one bartender Ricardo, who took over an hour to prepare cocktails and showed no sense of urgency or care. The dramatic cocktail descriptions sounded impressive, but the drinks did not match the descriptions at all. Because of the delays, we were never even able to properly toast or celebrate our friend. The charcuterie board took forever and arrived with an absurd amount of cheese and only six pieces of bread. To make things worse, part of the food we ordered never arrived at all. The live jazz band advertised and promised never showed up. When asked, the staff responded with: "I don't know, they were supposed to be here. I don't have their phone number." That level of disorganization is unacceptable. At the end of the night, we were shocked to receive a check close to $600 for two tables, despite each person only having one cocktail and shared food. The bartender, Ricardo, approached us and said: "Well, sorry, we really tried tonight! It wasn't the best, but we tried." Honestly, that comment made the experience even more frustrating. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if they hadn't "tried."That statement perfectly summarizes the problem -- trying is not enough when everything fails. I would not recommend this place for a speakeasy experience. This is not a speakeasy. It's a poorly run bar hiding behind a concept it does not deliver. Do not recommend.
